Rated 4 out of 5 by Man we have used a bunch of Toshiba laptops in the past. The Tecra line were pretty good. My how they have changed. September 13, 2014
Rated 3 out of 5 by Seems like a reasonable laptop. I recall Toshiba having the best displays in the early 90s. They've faded into obscurity, though. March 24, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Good business laptop, toshiba makes good laptops and their commercial units used to be very good. They've since dropped off and are no longer on anyone's radar. September 5, 2013
Rated 1 out of 5 by The Toshiba Tecra A8 is almost definitely the most abysmal laptop Toshiba have ever released into the Tecra range. We use, and always have used Tecra laptops as a standard for all our mobile users (which equates to around 70% of our workforce). We find their docking ability (with Toshiba's Port Replicators) to be incredibly useful. As far as the A8 goes, they are riddled with problems! They have a terrible build quality, in a horrid silver colour that rubs off with only the slightest amount of use, they wear out batteries in a very short time, usually 8 months is the going rate before the batteries in these things are rendered completely useless and have to be replaced. The screen flexes and can rub against the keyboard when placed in a laptop bag, the plastic is flimsy, and don't even get me started on the performance issues (no matter what model A8 you have).Oh and don't forget about the cooling on this thing, it is highly inadequate! If you aren't careful you could end up warping your laptop, one of our users did.We have run these with Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7 (Forget running it on Vista, it's hopeless!)In summary, we have about 7 Tecra A8's in our company, they are finally coming to the end of the 4 year lifetime we give to all machines in our company, and boy will I be glad to see them gone, replaced by the far superior Tecra R850.If you want an A8, just don't. Get yourself an A9 or backtrack and get a high powered A3x or A4.If you still want one of these things, let me know. I will soon have 7 of these things which I would love to throw at an idiot! :P February 9, 2012
Rated 3 out of 5 by Was fine at the time, I wouldn't want to carry it all day and I wouldn't try to install vista. But an OK laptop with XP. July 10, 2009
Rated 4 out of 5 by Good performer, a little heavy. June 17, 2009
Rated 3 out of 5 by This unit leave a bit to be desired. It came with Vista installed but I believe that it should have been downgraded to XP because the GUI just isn't as responsive as some of our other units with more RAM and dual core CPUs. November 4, 2008
