Product Reviews
Linksys WRT1900ACS - wireless router - 802.11a/b/g/n/ac - desktop is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 472.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Incredible Linksys router I've had this router for about a month. What a difference in speed and signal over my older router. I am delighted with the performance and the price. A family member also has this router, and has a strong signal all across her large house. I use it on a Uverse system with the wifi turned off in their modem, allowing the Linksys to show its stuff.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Does the Job I've used this WRT1900ACS for one month. It's located a little off-center on the bottom floor of a two-story house which has 1800 sq. ft. per floor. Both 2.4 and 5.0 GHz bands adequately cover both floors. The 5.0 GHz signal gets moderately weak at the farthest points of the upper floor, but it's still usable. The 2.4 GHz signal is good to excellent everywhere. The router is very stable. A reboot has not been needed during the first month of use - it has run continuously for a month.I bought this router partly because it supports third-party firmware. I planned to use DD-WRT if the stock firmware was buggy, inadequate or unstable. So far I've been mostly happy with the stock firmware (version The user interface is generally easy to use. Be aware I've not tested the VPN (not a major need). My biggest single complaint is the stock firmware does not provide the option to encrypt the guest wireless network (WPA/WPA2). Other brands support this option. Linksys assumes the guest will always be using an HTTPS connection when entering sensitive information. While that may be true most of the time, I wonder why Linksys doesn't follow that same line of thinking for the owner's wireless network (which is encrypted by default).Be aware of the size of the router. It's large compared to others. This isn't an issue for me but could be for some.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not compatible with larger than 4TB drives Read reviews that this router supported large hard drives and lightning speed on USB3.0. Hooked up Seagate 8TB to backup home systems and it's not compatible. Tech support asked that I reformat the drive again after I just formatted NTFS and tried for days to backup our systems - some were backed up, some would not show folders on router but perfectly fine connected to PC. Transfers across network, even directly connected 1GB ethernet is very slow. Very disappointed. Most routers have dual bands these days but few support large hard drives and fast backup transfers. Back in the market looking for what I hoped this would be.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Upgrade Purchased to replace older Linksys router which was working fine. The WRT1900 worked even better. Better range, easy installation, and all around excellent wired and WiFi operation. Glad I got it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I would recommend this product. Linksys WRT1900ACS Dual-Band Wi-Fi Router with Ultra-Fast 1.6 GHz CPU. I have been a Linksys fan for years. They have never let me down. The hardware always works and the online support is USA based. They were very helpful. I am not knowledgeable in this area and probably didn't need to buy a product this far up the chain. But, when I saw "Ultra-Fast" I went for it. It works perfectly. They only installation problem I had was self inflected. They helped me right away. No problems.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from great router, but possibly not worth an upgrade I wasn't looking to use DD-WRT with this router, but I was trying to solve some dead spots in my wi-fi coverage. I currently have a Linksys EA6900 and a Linksys RE6500. Together they provide good coverage, but with some trouble areas.I swapped out the EA6900 for the WRT1900ACS and did a bunch of testing. In short, I didn't find the coverage any better, and in fact thought the WRT1900ACS was less reliable than the EA6900 (some drop-outs in the trouble areas).Next I tested this in my girlfriend's apartment in an old building with lath and plaster walls, where she doesn't get a good signal in her bedroom despite the small size of the apartment. She is currently using an older Wireless-N Linksys router. Unfortunately, at least for N devices, the WRT1900ACS didn't do much to improve this coverage.I think this is a good, solid router and worth buying if you're looking to use DD-WRT or have an older router. But if you already have a recent AC router, this is probably not worth the upgrade. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great router, possibly not worth an upgrade I have a 2200sq-ft, two story home and I have a Linksys EA6900 and RE6500 working together to provide decent Wi-Fi coverage, albeit still with some trouble spots. I was hoping the WRT1900ACS would solve these last few areas with its maximum range potential. After extensive testing in every area or the house including around the yard, the WRT1900ACS and RE6500 combination did not perform any better than the EA6900, and I actually found it to be less reliable (some drop-outs in the trouble areas).I then tried it in my girlfriend's apartment in a 110 year old building with lath and plaster walls. She never had good wi-fi in her bedroom, despite the small size of the apartment, due to the signal traveling through two walls. She currently has an older Linksys Wireless-N router. Still, with the WRT1900ACS, at least for wireless-N devices, the range was not much improved.Admittedly, I did not utilize DD-WRT, and what I was looking for was pretty specific. Bottom line is I think this is a great router, especially if you want to utilize its features and are upgrading from something older. If you already have a recent wireless-AC router, though, the WRT1900ACS probably isn't worth the upgrade. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
