Ultrastar 7K4000 represents the sixth-generation HGST 5-platter design, which has been field proven by top server and storage OEMs and Internet giants. Engineered for the highest quality, the Ultrastar 7K4000 is put through grueling design tests during development and must pass stringent ongoing reliability testing during manufacturing. Ultrastar 7K4000 delivers by reducing downtime, eliminating service calls and minimizing TCO.

Operating at 7200 RPM, Ultrastar 7K4000 offers better overall performance than slower RPM capacity-oriented drives, and does so at impressively low power-consumption rates. The Ultrastar 7K4000 can help data centers achieve lower AC power and HVAC requirements. With five advanced power Management modes, the 7K4000 achieves a 59% reduction in watts during low RPM idle mode, and uses less than 1 W during standby/sleep modes, freeing up precious headroom for growing enterprise needs.

Product Reviews
Rated 5 out of 5 by 2reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Plugged it in, works great. This is expected from HGST, along with a long life. I hope HGST drives continue their legacy under WDC. To be clear, WDC would be my second choice, but I put HGST ahead of them. Before being purchased by WDC they didn't seem to manipulate customers with the head parking and withold the ability to control it. They made money the old fashioned way by selling excellent product. Rated 5 out of 5 by All around good for multi-media production under stress Just a good and solid (read that as, reliable) bare drive that gets the job done without breaking the bank. These are not going to be the least expensive option if you require keeping an inventory of these devices, but you can pay a lot more too. These drives come with a 64MB buffer, and a platter RPM of 7200, providing adequate specs for working with realtime, high-definition media, for capturing and editing. We use these drives in a fast paced media production environment with a relentless work flow. To the best of my knowledge these drives have not, so far, failed us even one time. We have purchased dozens of these drives over the last three years and find them to be a near perfect balance between cost and performance. May 22, 2014
