Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best DVM Ever I bought the 179 as soon as it came out (several years ago and have had NO problems! I'm on (about) the tenth set of test leads, tho'. I've been in CNC repair for the past 40 years and this 179 has been the most reliable meter I've ever owned.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Finally upgraded After years of reliable service (almost 20) my Fluke 73 had to be replaced (Forklift casualty) My number one upgrade option was I wanted a background display light, I didn't have a need to upgrade to the 87 series, so I went with the 179 kit, I could not be more satisfied with my choice. When I first got into the maintenance field I learned my electrical troubleshooting with Fluke meters and haven't looked at any others. Along with my 374 clamp on I use these everyday without any issues.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best darn DVM I've ever had! I bought my 179 about a year ago. Used Fluke equipment exclusively with the major aerospace company I retired from. And now I finally have one. It's a superb piece of equipment that surpasses any equivilant piece of equipment in it's class. I restore antique tube type radios and it fits my needs perfectly. Didn't think I'd use the thermometer function but needed to know how hot a couple of resistors were running and that is a very usefull function of this meter.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great unit rugged and easy to use this unit keeps going with out fail. the TL 71 test leads are great but have a short wire life , the wires break but the insulation stays intact needs better wire curs? the 179 that i have needed the bumper reglued twice ase the machining coolants attack some plactecs and paint/ink i had to remark the knob indicator several times allready. tyhe catch is overall in a bad enviroment of out plant it holds up a lot better than amprob and aec they literly fall apart with stress cracking and glue disolving

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great DMM for mixed electrical and electronics usage I recently purchased a Fluke 179 and have been using it in a mixed environment in electrical systems and electronic circuit testing. The set of functions on this equipment is perfectly suitable for dealing with electrical systems, especially the default AC setting on current measurements. Good pluses are the frequency meter, the capacitance meter that reaches micro-farad measurements and even the temperature (to avoid burning my hands or fingers in sometimes overheat equipment). For electronic circuit testing, the only missing functions are a micro-ammeter and a pico-farad range on the capacitance meter. However, the DC mili-volt range, the 100kHz frequency meter and the ohmmeter range are excellent. Good pluses are the excellent responsiveness of the bargraph and the conductivity "beep". Other interesting features: no annoying beeps when switching between functions, sturdy construction with the integrated rubber back (although it would be nicer if it was detachable), the rotary function switch is very precise (rarely switches to a wrong position), the battery replacement does not require disassembling the whole unit, high-voltage protection fuses (although somewhat on the expensive side). One detail that would be nice is to auto-detect if the probe was connected to the correct ammeter inputs. I sometimes got confused in my measurements because of that...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome piece of equipment This is an extremely good unit that gives incredibly accurate and reliable information. If you work in service you have got to have a tool that you can rely. This is my second unit the first one I dropped off a roof and it landed in a gigantic puddle of water it still works. However, the temperature readings are a little off and I like precision so now it's a backup.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Rugged Accurate Meter With Lots of Features I bought this meter 15 years ago because I wanted a reliable accurate instrument produced by a world renowned test equipment manufacturer - and I wasn't disappointed! Specifically I wanted a meter with good accuracy and the 0.09% DC volts spec allows me to use the instrument to check up on my other less acurate DMMs The solid casing of the meter has withstood numerous bumps and scrapes over the years. This autoranging DMM has several useful features such as peak measurement, average reading, reading hold (for when you can't see the meter) and a capacitance range. The frequency range comes in useful also. And of course the display can be illuminated and the meter auto shuts off!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing... When i was young I could not afford a Fluke DMM but 30 years later I bought my first Fluke (179) and could not be happier! I use it for my hobby and every time I work with the Fluke I enjoy it so much...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic DMM! My review is based specifically on my experience with my new model 179. I ordered the kit with the skinny silicone leads and sharp electronics-type probes. This meter has performed flawlessly, and covers every need of mine to check for current, voltages, and resistance. I'm an HVAC controls technician, so I am dealing with 120v line voltage down to millivolts and milliamps. The resolution on this meter is excellent, and even for temperatures it is very accurate using the included thermocouple. The case is rugged, the rubber bumpers haven't come into play just yet but its a nice feature to know I have incase the meter ever is dropped. As with all fluke meters, do yourself a favor and purchase the t-pak meter hanging kit. That in itself deserves its own praising review! I own several thousand dollars worth of fluke instruments, from DMM's to calibrating thermometers, and not once have I been let down. Thank you Fluke.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Value I have had a Fluke 179 meter for a sevral years. It the most rugged meter I have used. It is an excelent value when a lower cost meter is required.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fluke 179 A good meter to be sure but only four star from me as it's so slow to come up with a voltage reading. Put it on a known 240 or 400 volt supply and it's "umm errr....pause.... okay 230 volts it is". Just drives me nuts when I'm in a hurry on a breakdown. Probably about half the speed of my old TES meter.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 179 = 2nd to none I have owned a 179 for years. I am pleased with its ruggedness, ease of care, accuracy and size. As a professional, who uses a 179 for troubleshooting 480 and 600 volt cabinets, I can honestly say I would want no other meter in my toolkit. The temperature probe comes in especially handy!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My new F179 DMM F179 is a very top of the line DMM! I love it!!! The selector dial is rugged and the 9v battery is easy to change without taking apart the entire meter. Dust can be easily cleaned out of the display area. I also own two F77's series I and II. I conect all three DMMs to a DC power supply, they give me the same figures. The F179 starts up faster than the two F77's when being turned on.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good product I work as over head crane maintenance mechanic, and like a year ago they start letting us the mechanics work into the electrical part because of ahort handed, so i was in the market for a good quality product, so i asked my coworker which is an electrician that which multimeter would be a good one for the type of work we do and he told me get the fluke 179 multimeter, so i bought it like a year ago and i love it. Really easy to understand the features and never had any problem. Excellent quality and durability.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect meter for everyone This is the best meter I have ever owned. I have used the el cheapo ones from the big box stores and they just don't have the accuracy, durability, or battery life of the 179. I would recommend this even over the other fluke meters like the 117. The 179 has more resolution and can display temperatures. It is well worth the bump in price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pretty good tool I use the meter daily and have never had a problem with it. I knocked of a star because I don’t understand the DC Hz function. At first I thought maybe there was some sort of AC/DC coupling selection but if set to DC Hz it always measures 0 :

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Must have True RMS Multimeter I originally purchased this while I was in Electronics Engineering and Robotics Automation schooling. I never would have imagined I would use it on a day to day basis outside of my career and schooling. Perfect for automotive applications. I cannot tell you durable this thing is and how many times I have dropped it on the hard concrete garage floor diagnosing electrical drains on my truck. The Hold and backlit features are second to none. No need to go back multiple times to remember what you measured. I highly recommend this model. Helps me on my day to day basis with my current job diagnosing alarm systems as well as 66 blocks. Works well for high and low voltage applications.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My favoriate MM yet! I have been using this meter now for a few years, and overall it is fantastic. It is easy to use, and very fast. Autoranging works well, and min/max is very useful for troubleshooting as well. If anything could be improved I would suggest the backlight in the LCD for easier viewing at night.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This Meter is a Little Powerhouse I purchased two of these to support an ongoing test where they will be left in place for several months. I initially purchased this model because it was inexpensive and supported the basic functions that I needed covered for the test but have since updated more meters in my facility with this model due to its versatility, durability and price. I am amazed at how much functionality you get for a small price these days, Fluke has done well with this and so many other products that I have bought from them

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great meter that I have used for years I bought my 179 in 2004. I have used it everyday as an automobile technician. I lover the back lighting, and that it has the capability to keep the back lighting on. Also love the very accurate ohms setting. Also use the DC amp option checking parasitic draws. And the meter is very accurate and works very well for fixing electronics at night. And for trouble shooting residential wiring as well. I would buy another in a heartbeat.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for our startup just completed a multimillion dollar expansion and got these 179 multimeters for our startup team. They worked perfect for the industrial setting from ringing out bad installation wiring, to voltage/ammeter checkout, including a few accidental drops on the plant floor and still worked.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from One of the most reliable tools in my arsenal I've had this in my tool bag since I was in college studying electrical engineering, and over the years I've used it for everything from small electronics, car work, and now testing house hold circuits. It is by far one of the best investments I've made in my early years. The backlight is incredibly useful when you're sitting upside down on your driver's seat, with your face in the deep dark pits of the dashboard, or when you're in the corner of the attic wiring up a junction box.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exceptional value and reliability Been using Fluke 17x for many, many years. They are my standard order for any new employee who needs a meter and for any "new bench" supply. The 179 is high reliable and accurate. Battery lasts forever. All the features you need are there, easy to use. You can trust the measurements. Some may say the Name adds a needless price tag difference, but the devil is in the details and I disagree. Features that really make the difference: - Fast and accurate continuity check (easily one of the most commonly used and important features in product development labs - Fast bargraph - Very accurate TrueRMS AC measurements. - Very high input impedance. - High quality probes. It's the portable version of a bench meter, if you don't need the few extra features and resolution of the 87V. I have dropped these and seen them dropped tens of times, never seen one break. Only had to change 1 battery, after many years. You can't go wrong with a 17x.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Control and Electrical Meter This meter is great! I work as a systems control technician and i have to say this meter is both user friendly and very reliable. I primarily use this meter on Automation controls to trouble shoot and perform point to point inspections on hvac controls. But I also use this meter on vfds, motors, actuators and micro controllers. If your looking for a durable meter that can do a lot, this one is it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Review of the Fluke 179 The Fluke 179 is the preferred DVM for our test lab and at our labs in Dearborn Mi campus. The model 179 has proven to be a real workhorse in our lab for trouble shooting along with test setups. used by lab tech and engineers along with our skilled trades. The 179 is rugged. reliable and holds calibration better that any other competitors meters. We have tried competitors maters but have always come back to the Fluke line of equipment. In short you get what you pay for. Keep up the Great quality that we all have come accustom to from Fluke.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this Meter! I've had this meter for a couple of years now and I've used it for everything from building my custom drone to troubleshooting our churches electronic restroom fixtures. Most recently I repaired my coffee roaster by testing voltages, resistance and then using the temp probe to confirm the exhaust temperature spec. I absolutely love this thing! Buy right the first time and you'll enjoy it every time you use it. I highly recommend this meter.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ideal for industrial maintenance. The 179 has the features to diagnose 98% of the problems a maintenance tech in a manufacturing plant is likely to encounter at a price anyone in the trade can afford. I have acquired plenty of other tools as my role has changed (see photo but the 179 is still the one I keep at hand for everyday jobs. There are other tools on the market that have the same functions at a lower price but with them you don't get the most important features: Fluke's safety, reliability, durability and accuracy. I trust no other brand on the job.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best meter out there for the price I have had two of these models in the last 15 years. They are very reliable and accurate. The ability to have the backlight stay on all the time is a great feature as well. When my business looks at test instruments we look not further than Fluke.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My go to meter I bought my first one of these meters when it first came out. Used daily, it took many years to wear out the first battery. Everytime I have checked the calibration, it is always spot on. Even after falling off a 120' wind turbine tower, beating around tool boxes, and more. Subsequently I have purchased many more of these meters and provide them for all of my technicians and work stations at our factory.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from You can never go wrong with a fluke I have had this meter for about a year now and it works as great as the day I bought it. It has all of the features I need plus more. Fluke meters are the most accurate meters I have ever used. They are built to last and can take a beating. I have had experience with other meters and they just don't compare to the quality and functionality of a fluke. The 179 is perfect for the professional electrician and for the homeowner/automobile owner who wants a tool that will stand the test of time. It is also a great investment for the student electrician who is looking for a meter that that will last them for years to come. The price that these meters command are worth every penny. You will not be disappointed in your purchase. At one of the best things about fluke is they stand behind there product 100%.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from One of the best DMM for daily use I decided to choice this model after I watched reviews for probably all Fluke DMMs. This is one of the best DMM for daily use. Excellent ergonomics with center of gravity exactly in middle of device, very accurate metering and excellent TL-175 test leads already included with device. Would be a good to have precise measuring mode with extended range up to 20 000 counts like in 28 II and 87 V in this model too, because it much compact in comparison with two listed above and probably AC175 Alligator Clips included. What I personally don't like is 9V Neda battery and how it connected in device. 3 AA batteries give more energy and easy to change. My next try will be using Lithium battery for extended power on time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Extremely long battery life, fast, reliable I work on large induction power supplies, complex PLC control systems, and general industrial maintenance. This meter covers all these fields and more. I have used it for over 4 years! The battery life is great, but the accuracy and speed is where it truly shines. I know I can trust my 179 as it has never let me down.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Impressively fast meter. Thoroughly impressed with how fast this meter reads. Of all the Flukes in my collection used for various tasks the 179 stands above with how quickly it can read. I'd do a more in depth review but most of it is just repeating the standard Fluke standards that are written in most of these reviews. It has been a solid meter for troubleshooting and rebuilding a few amplifiers and receivers as well as building other misc. AC/DC projects from the ground up.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Everything I need and more. I finally upgraded to a Fluke 179 a few months ago, and I don't know why I waited so long. I do guitar amplifier repair, and this is the perfect meter, fast, reliable, accurate, feature-rich. Everything I need in one package.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Must Have! I use my Fluke 179 daily for many electrical and electronic troubleshooting tasks. I like the versatility of the unit as I can go from analyzing a motor drive or power coming into a system to working on a sensor. This meter does it all! The response time is great because nothing makes me angrier than slow to update display. A great purchase and I would get another one!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent accuracy Ever since EE school, Fluke has always been my go-to multimeter in the last 3 decades for electronics work. But it has always been limited to bench meters, I don't have the same need for high accuracy for portable use and my 8 portable multimeters has been other brands like Sanwa, Extech, and disposable Harbor Freight which I use on-the-go. I have a NIST calibrated voltage standard, I know my Sanwa and Extech meters are all within spec (+/- 1-3%), but never spot on. I decided to purchase the 179 (non-NIST) as a more robust handheld meter, out-of-the-box, it is the only meter that is spot on even at its highest resolution at multiple reference voltages. It doesn't have the resolution of the bench meters, but I thought the meter have every bit of the quality that is worthy of the Fluke name.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Benchmark for DMMs This is our daily use DMM at work, it's rarely out of use often enough to make it back to its place in the tool chest. I have a cheaper one in my desk drawer, but it really only comes out if I can't find the Fluke. Our field technicians also carry this model in their toolboxes. We make specialized construction products and routinely work with AC and multiple DC voltages, so most of the features are used regularly, with the exception of maybe temperature (though that is a nice bonus). The meters are not difficult to use, even for someone without a lot of electrical knowledge. They're durable and built for real world use, well protected from the construction environment. There's a reason you see Fluke in toolboxes and on jobsites everywhere, simply put they are the benchmark for quality electrical measurement equipment.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice to have an engineering grade DMM at home. I bought a Fluke 179 for home use after having used similar Flukes in graduate school, engineering work, and teaching for many years. Very pleased with its performance and the confidence that it affords when probing the mishmash electrical wiring of a hundred plus year old home!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great functional meter for every day use I was in the market for a new multi meter and chose this model for it's competitive pricing, it's features and the reliability that I have come to expect from Fluke products. It has been a great addition to my troubleshooting tools and I couldn't be happier with it's ease of use and dependability. I would highly recommend this product to anyone looking for a DMM.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Everything you need in one! I have had this meter for over a year now and use it everyday. It is quick reading and very accurate. I do high and extremely low AC and DC voltages with an array of circuit testing. It works perfectly for all. I also purchased a kit that has the case, probe assortment and the very essential magnetic holder. Very nice setup! I have many customers ask me where I got the meter and kit. I do wish the meter would have come with a case, but I am glad I spent a little extra and bought the kit. Highly, highly recommend whether you are a beginner or a veteran with electrical.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect! I have had my 179 for a year or so now and I am very impressed with this unit. This meter replaced my perfectly working 112, which now stays home for trouble shooting around the house while my 179 goes to the job and puts money in my pocket. Someone once told me "you are only as good as your tools", and having the 179 on the job gives me the confidence to trust my readings. I am super happy, with all of my fluke purchases.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Realiable, Robost, Fast, Accurate I have a laptop and PC repair shop in Iran. Although it is very hard to find fluke products here (due to the sanctions) let alone parts and accessories, but buying 179 totally worth it. In my diagnosis I never question the reading and speed and accuracy of this meter saves a lot of time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great meter! I've had my 179 for about a month now and I will say that compared to the fieldpiece I had, this is the Cadillac of meters. So easy to use and read. I won't go with any other meter from here on out.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Calibration Cert I purchased a new tool so it would be current on calibration and it did not even come with a calibration sheet.
