Size of the hard drive
I like the size of the hard drive. It is not bulky and sits flat on the table beside the computer. There is not a long cable with it that would get in the way of other materials on the table beside the computer. It is very, very easy to sync with the computer.

This produce does not work with my xps 8920 desk top. had to format 4 times so far and still can't get it to download my documents such as pictures a

As usual no instructions included with the item. I plugged it into the USB port first one then the other, it did not show up on my screen to transfer docs to the portable hard drive. Maybe its just what I did or did not do, but what the heck?? The point of using this was to free up some space on my mini tower, to save docs to this new portable hard drive. I tried to call and did not get through to DELL. I don't know if it is a non functioning item or not. I had thrown away the envelope it came in. Nothing else came with it. I guess that Dell feels that we figure out how to use items via osmosis? I am very annoyed by this. I have been a customer for years and have not had any complaints until this.

My new 1TB, Portable external hard drive from Dell
I am very pleased with the 1TB external hard drive, because it's very small, compact and easy to use. I was able to save over a decade of data-files, documents, etc from my old computer and transfer selected files it to my new computer. Now I can backup my important files with ready access.

Perfectly suited for our needs
We now have two of these - one stays at home, the other in the safe box at the bank - both being used to back up all files, photos, and personal documents stored on our home and work machines.
This diminutive 1 TB drive is spacious, quick, easy to use, and easily transportable. We used the bulk of our rewards points from having bought a monitor and tower to purchase this unit - what's not to like about a single digit cost for something this powerful.

Bad surprise that instructions don't exist.That could be helpful for the knowing what the product is useful for.
The WD 1TB USB 3.0WD Elements portable external hard drive came with only one direction:plug it into USB. I had to search Google to learn if this type of drive is unsuitable for moving programs and files from one laptop to another. Not suitable for programs, as the external drive can change it's designated Drive name and thus won't be recognized.
