significant upgrade
I never liked the Mk 1. It was bulky, heavy and importantly not sharp. The Mk 2 has addressed all of these shortcomings . I much prefer primes but this is now a standard zoom I use regularly

Upgraded from original GM last month to the new one and absolutely love it. Lighter and smaller with addition of aperture ring on lens, this updated version so much better. Recently tested it out on trip to Donegal and it is def sharper and better lens. Delighted with the upgrade and is welcome addition to my Sony family

Superb optical quality
Bought this a month ago and have used for family photography. This lens is super sharp and has insanely fast autofocus. It always stays in my camera now!

I bought this just over a week ago. Whilst testing out the smooth tight feature I noticed it didn’t return back to smooth and made a grinding sound.it locks between 50 and 70mm I took the lense of the camera to inspect it and went back to the shop of purchase. They went off with it and then identified a warp shape to the ring. The lense locks and then suddenly gives and moves. It’s now off to Sony for warranty repair but I must say having used Sony for the last 5 years and always purchase new gear, I’m very disappointed this is obviously faulty and I should have been given an exchange.

Pairing this lens with my a7RIVA has been a revelation. It is extremely comfortable to handle because of its light weight and small form factor (for a 24-79 f2.8 zoom), AF is close to instantaneous as well as totally silent and the image quality is stellar. The previous 24-79 GM lens was superb (I PX-ed against the MkII) but this is just in a different league.

Amazing photo and video capture
This replaced the 28-70mm kit lens that came with my original Sony A7, and to live on its replacement A7 IV. I had rented the previous version 24-70 F2.8 GM, but it's weight was just far too much. This one, while still relatively heavy, balances superbly with the A7 IV's weight.
The photos and video captured with it so far in trying to get comfortable with the new lens are amazing. The autofocus speed is incredible and the A7 IV I'm using it on nails it nearly every time. It's a joy to use, and a guilty pleasure of a purchase. Using it wide open gives the smoothest, creamiest bokeh. Just for a laugh I tried it on the A7 IV to use as a webcam, it simply looked too good to go back from.

Superb piece of engineering that drops the weight significantly. After previously owning the mk 1 version which was still superb the weight and balance is a game changer.

It is lighter weight.
This lense is light weight but expensive. ai would still prefer that this was made in Original Japan. I have not fully tested on sharpness but I hope it should be Ok. I have no good photos to up load but I will try.

A Must Have For Portraits
This lens is a must have when you are doing portraits. It is my go-to lens for dance, family/senior portraits, and equine/pet portraits. Sharper than the previous version. Love that it is lighter.

Not worth it
Yes. it's a great compact lens, but it's underwhelming considering the high price vs the competition. It's also very very underwhelming when paired with the 70-200 GM II. Not sure if it the 70-200 that is that good or the 24-70 that is just ordinary but the later isn't just not good enough for it's price point, especially the auto-focus. Competitors offering are more than adequate, hugely deceived by this one. I shoot mostly actions on A9II, YMMV.

Beautiful lens, sharp but with come curve
Great lens, beautiful image, sharp and gives a great depth of field.
I found the image begins to curve at 24mm which requires correction in the online, unusual for a 24mm, I find that happens on 18mm usually.
Nice a light and the manual F Stop is great with a lock which was both suprising and now I want it on all my lenses!

My new "every day" lens
This lens has it all; Quick, sharp AF, nice balance, lightweight, and the build and features I expect from a GM lens. Recently, I went to a museum with a butterfly house to see if I could catch some butterflies in flight. Those guys are erratic in the air to say the least. I was amazed at the quick, sharp focus and beautiful colors this lens could capture. Some examples attached.

Great lens
I’ve only used this lens briefly a few times so far but can happily say it’s a great lens. Light enough to hold for an all day walk about and very sharp. I’m looking forward to putting it through its paces when I go on holiday soon.

Top quality all rounder
This lens is almost always on my camera.
I always start the day with the 24-70GMII on my body, then swap to a wide or long lens if I need to. Often I take multiple images then stitch to a panorama rather than swapping for a wide angle lens.
It is extremely versatile, 90% of my photography is with this lens and I love the aperture ring.

Fast and Accurate Focus
I bought this lens one month ago before my trip to Tokyo and Kyoto. The lens is fast and focus accurate even for A7C body. One thing I like is the size compared to the previous generation. Worth the money. I may upgrade to A7RV to have full strength of the lens.

No regrets.
I've had this lens for a month now, to give chance for a fair assessment. The lens is both lighter and shorter, than it's MKI predecessor. Paired with the A7rv body, autofocus is fast and accurate. Images look great with sharp images and good bokeh, dependant upon settings. This was worth taking the time to save, rather than take a third party or the MKI lens. Service at WEX Photographic in London was superb. I have no regrets and would recommend the lens.
