The pencil door is so annoying
To be honest, the case fits great. But it’s the pencil door that kills this product. It’s flimsy. What you’re holding it with your right hand it literally creaks and pops from the cheap plastic door on the side. It annoyed me so bad I threw it in the trash.

First Time Ever Disliking an Otterbox Case
I got my 6th generation iPad mini in 2022 and immediately bought this case. A week later, the flimsy pencil case portion actually broke and your company replaced the whole thing. Now, not quite a year later, that same side (pencil case side) has a cracked screen. I’m so disappointed in the design of this that I won’t buy another. I feel I should either get my money back or at least be reimbursed for the 49.00Apple care fee.

The stylus holder is cheap.
The stylus holder is cheap and breaks after a while. Mine lasted a year. Otherwise the case is fine. The screen protector is not part of the case for some reason on this model. Previous cases it was built in. On this version its either sold separately or you order as part of the kit.

Worse otterbox purchase after all these years
Pencil door fell off I don’t even use it. This leaves the iPad unprotected and dust gets in. Long time otterbox customer but this case is junk. Mad it is going to cost me shipping for an inferior product.

The box was opened. Seal was broken and heavy case doesn’t clip on properly! Very bad experience for the first time with otterbox. Instructions weren’t clear. Never got delivered status as well.

A solid case to protect an iPad mini.
A solid box for protecting my iPad mini. It was a little complicated to figure out, but we followed the instructions and got it installed. It’s pretty solid and seems like it will protect the iPad.

Very disappointing
After 1 day of having this case put on my new iPad Mini I was disappointed with setting it up. First when I was trying to open the case the back plate could not come off without some force. You need a screwdriver to open the clips. When putting the case back together the rubber piece does not line up properly without some prodding and squeezing and would still look off. The volume buttons don’t line up without reseating them. It is also hard to reattach the back plate. I removed the screen protector because I don’t like the way my finger slides on the screen and it looked ugly to begin with. As far as the appearance it looks like some bit the case where the on/off button is but I guess they can’t help that. There is no doubt that the case will do its job in protecting my iPad but I like to clean it so opening it will be a struggle.

I wrote to Otterbox several months after the Mini 6 was released asking if they were releasing a Defender series soon for it. The reply was something along the lines of "you never know what we will be developing". So I went and bought the cheap and hard to hold thing for $30. Not three weeks later they have the product announcement of the Defender for my new Mini. I was a little ticked because clearly they had been working on a design well before I asked and probably well before Apple released the 6. This one works just about as well as the one for the Mini 5. They included a door on the right side to store an Apple pen if you use one. I don't and that hollow space is very noticeable. Removing the cover and clipping it on the front and back can be a pain in the gluteous maximus, and sometimes it's smooth as silk. The tabs that let you hold the tablet in an landscape or portrait position just don't work well unless you don't touch anything and it's on a flat surface. I always hand hold mine. The cover is very sturdy and does well. The button tabs for the volume control are well done. The touch ID is also pretty well engineered.

I got this a few weeks ago for my sons iPad. He is kind of rough with his things so I was worried about how much protection it actually had…let me say, it is phenomenal! I would highly recommend to anyone with small children or children with special needs. This product is awesome!

Less than expected
I always purchase otterbox for all my apple products. Recently, I purchased an IPad Mini 6th generation. Just got the otterbox and it’s not what I expected. The pen cover keeps coming off and tell me the purpose of the back covering having an opening which is not like the other otterbox. (See photo)Not satisfied at all, I really want my money back or if possible create a new one.

Not as good as previous versions
Will do the job, but should work better for the price. Doesn't stand up well at all when using the lid to prop it up and keeps falling over. The locking tab on the side of the device rattles around and doesn't seem very secure. If I didn't trust the case to protect my new iPad Mini from getting squished in my bag (based on previous Otter cases on other iPads, including an older Mini, I probably would have returned it.

Protection is good.
But overall the case is not great. I travel quite a bit and use this for in flight movies, etc…. Unfortunately, the angles allowed for viewing movies are flawed. When in the landscape position , the iPad is basically balancing and any little bump or turbulence and iPad falls off. You can’t touch the iPad in that position or it falls over. There are small notches that seem like they could possibly secure the iPad but they don’t do much. Seems like it was an afterthought. Otter box has been my go to forever. Unfortunately I gotta bring this one back.

Horrible quality
The new Otterbox case design is horrible. Due to the open end for the Apple pencil, the case is flimsy and does not protect the device form moisture or debris like the original cases did. The outside rubber covering does not fit flush with the plastic/device. I have always used Otterbox cases for my previous IPADS and they were fantastic at keeping my device fully protected, clean, and dry. The "door" on the pencil holder area will not stay on and even when closed, it's loose and does not protect my device. Very disappointed that there is not an option for an IPAD mini 6 case without the Apple pencil holder.This new case design is a joke and I will not be using their products anymore.

No problems with ordering or shipping. Product is tough and sturdy. But there no instructions on how it goes and fits for the iPad Mini 6. Sadly had to go to YouTube to find answers.

Been an Otterbox customer for years. Have them on all the Apple products we own. This case missed the mark and I saw several other reviews with the same issue. Ordered two of them for the kids’ new iPads and they both have the same issue. The back casing does not stay flush and has a small pocket of air because the lip doesn’t stay secure under the plastic piece that holds the stylus. Very disappointed in the quality as Otterbox has always been our go-to. Kept them because the hassle of sending them back wasn’t worth it, but making sure the kids are extra careful, which kind of defeats the purpose.

OtterBox misses mark
The defender for the iPad mini 6 simply misses the mark. The pencil compartment cause the case structure to suffer and not be as solid as previous iPad defender cases. Also the using the shield as a landscape stand simply doesn’t work. Barely touching the screen causes the iPad mini 6 to slip from its perch. OtterBox needs to ditch the pencil compartment and redesign this case to mimic the defender for the iPad mini 2. This case will probably get returned.

Inclusion of the Mac pen slot makes it weak
Usually these cases are bullet proof but the outer slip case is saggy and doesn’t fit correctly and the Mac pen slot leaves the iPad unprotected at that side. The outer frame flap was lost in the first week and the frame section where the pen goes broke in less than 3 months.

Apple pen side of case breaks easily
Not the same quality I'm used to from Otterbox. The side where the Apple pen fits breaks very easily, and leaves the whole right side of the iPad exposed.

Complete crap. Broke once warranty replacement sent. Broke again and now they want me to send the case in so I don’t have a case on my expensive iPad in order to get another. No thanks. I’ll spend my money elsewhere and buy a case without a defect. Both times the pencil door broke off. Crap design. Avoid.

I think I’m done with Otterbox
I’m not sure which one you are asking about. I bought 2 for this iPad with the first one, the cover for the Apple Pencil broke off before I got the tablet installed. It went in the trash. I replaced it with another cover. At the same time I bought a case for my granddaughters Mini. It seems to work well and is very protective. Unfortunate it does not have provisions for the pencil. It works fine for her, but would be useless for me.

Primary purpose of the case is drop protection, seems like the case will do that well.
I like the thought of the anti-microbial feature, but can't really evaluate it.
We're using it with an Amplify Glass anti-microbial screen protector; they fit together well.
Not using a Pencil2 (yet), but the case's flip-out door giving access to the tablet's mag attachment side, a long thin piece of plastic, does seem like a point of future weakness. Not an issue if you're not using the Pencil2, I think.
The TPU flexible layer of the case assembly is the outer layer. Other Otterbox cases we're using have the rigid layer shell as the outside layer, with the TPU held to the inside. Maybe the reversal is an artifact of accommodating this tablet's design / layout? But, those reviewers who have noted that the outer flexible layer sags or pulls away in the Pencil2 charging area are on to something. I tried to get out ahead of future sags, snags, and tears by adding double-stick tape between case layers, but the tape didn't adhere well to the case materials. There may be a future warranty call.
The top cover -- I used to use Seidio cases, while they were still available. Generally, I liked their little stand pieces in their tablet top covers (and my iPhone 6 kickstand case), so many useful positions to choose from, and easy to use. This Otterbox stand, for me, either holds the tablet up to near-vertical, too tall and near the edge of stability; or the cover stand lays the tablet near horizontal, too flat. There's no happy just-right intermediate position.

So I’m on my second case for the same issue… that dang pencil door. Just ordered a replacement again…. Seriously if they would make this case without that door it would be 5 stars. With case #3 I plan to just tape it shut, I don’t use it

Ok I planning on updating my iPhone se 2020 and my ipad mini 4 and my apple watch se but I will be honest with you I been using otterboxes on my ipod 3 and my mini 1 and my first apple cell phone But the Alpha glass is becoming a deal braker for me my sister and dad have it all kind of dirt dust gets stuck behind it I already started looking for alternatives that have built in screen protector until you start putting built in screen protection back in your product I not sure I wanna stay a long time customer

Poor fit and finish
Just got the case and door for pencil is loose and pops out. Back rubber piece does not fit back of the ipad smoothly. Maybe I got a bad one, but quality seems very poor.

Very durable....
I received this 6th generation outter box defender series pro case a few weeks a go for my son and it has been a life saver. It has proven to withstand any hard fall and still protect my son's ipad. It was easy to put on and has a nice feel to it.

The Otterbox defender case will definitely give you peace of mind for protecting your Ipad. Otterbox is well known for quality and protection of any device. This one comes with a pencil holder and a stand. The double layer protection is also a plus.

Poor Design Quality
I purchased this Defender for my new Mini 6th Gen, and was incredibly unhappy with the way it fit. The biggest downfall? The pencil holder. Very loose, and make the whole case feel cheap. The rubber doesn’t fit snug, the entire case does not feel good in the hand and its all linked back to the pencil holder, which probably 80% of iPad Mini users will not use.
I am a big Otterbox fan, and always use them on my iPhone, as well as older generation iPad Mini’s. This is the first miss, most cases are very well made. Otterbox, please consider making a version without the pencil holder with a tighter feel. Please also consider an Otterbox Symmetry for the iPad Mini series, this would be 110% a top seller. We have no good options for non-folio style hand-held cases.

Replacement Satisfactory
The original case I purchased at a local Best Buy had the problem that so many seem to be referring to, that is the rubber shell being loose. The rubber felt as though maybe it was just cut a little to big for the rest of the product.
However, after working with Otterbox on the issue, the replacement seems to have corrected the problem. Side by side, there is a noticeable difference, and after wiggling the rubber gently to see if the problem would replicate, I cannot reproduce the problem on the new one.
I wonder at this point if this isn't necessarily a design issue primarily, but if it was rather a manufacturing issue in a batch of cases that were released. If this is a problem, I strongly recommend giving Otterbox a call because the replacement I was given seems to be much better despite being the same product.
I do wish they had gone with a slightly different design for the Apple Pencil cover, perhaps incorporating that into the rubber cover as opposed to the plastic shell, but now I'm nitpicking...
Thank you Otterbox for sending a corrected product. This one is much better.

Finally an ipad mini 6 otterboxcase!
I have been waiting for otterbox to come out with an ipad mini 6 case. I was hoping for a symmetry but a defender will be a better protection more so for the ports etc.
I just got my case today and boy was so excited to use it for my ipad mini. Excitement died down a little because there was no instructions how to install this. I went to the website to see if there was a video and none.
I braved it, and just gently “un-assembled” the case layer by layer. Finally I successfully installed this OB case without causing any scratch to the ipad nor damaging the new case.
I love that the removable back plate which can serve as both a stand and front cover has storage for my apple pencil. Now I do not have to keep the pencil attached to my ipad, I feel like it is draining the battery faster. Please note that the case itself has a “flap” or door that you can open if you want the apple pencil attached or charged.
The circular window at the back of the case where you see the apple logo is actually covered with a transparent plastic layer. I wish they did the same for the camera.
In summary- I am pleased with this case, it’s been on for less than an hour. I like that it has storage for your apple pencil. It really feels solid!
My only wish is that it should have come with instructions- written or video. And maybe other colors. I am still giving this 5 stars!!!

Update to my initial renew: not as good
Initially gave this case a 5-star rating (in spite of the lack of instructions, you can find a youtube video now from an independent reviewer probably I was just too excited.
Now that I had this case on for over a couple days, in that short period of time I have observed some issues that in the long run, will just get worse.
The “rubber” outer layer that protects the back and sides of my ipad does not seem to be “snugly” fit as it should be, compared to my defender case for the iphone 13 which sort of wraps on the back of the device. I noticed that the back part is very loose that it comes of and lifts off the back the case (see photos). I do not see how can this be very protective at all, plus dust/dirt will collect under that later since it isnt very fit.
Another issue I see is the apple pencil holder, it is very wiggly even when the “flap” is closed.
I will still be generous and give this 2 stars just because of how sturdy the hard case feels plus the port protection.
Then again, it has only been a few days, who knows what other problems I may notice. Disappointing. I had good experience with other otterbox cases so i am hoping they improve on this.

I bought this a few weeks ago to update the case I was using for my iPad. It was time to have some change and I wanted a case that would last through lots of bumps, falls, and sticky fingers (I have kids and they tend to use my iPad). I have to say, this case has done an amazing job. I feel like it is not too bulky of a case. It provides great protection while still looking nice and it is very easy to clean!

Best way to protect it!
After dropping and cracking 2 of my iPad minis I learned I must protect it with an OtterBox Case! I never had a problem again because the cases protect my iPad. They are high quality, durable, extremely protective, and functional. There are a few more steps to put it on than other cases, but so much more worth it! I highly recommended this OtterBox iPad mini (6th gen Defender Series Pro Case.
