Rated 5 out of 5 by from Provides Protection Great purchase. I bought this before I received my new phone and it came out of the box and went straight in. It's not as bulky as people make it seem. It's about the same size as a standard case. I upgraded from a Galaxy S7 so obviously the phone is much larger and I didn't notice a difference in case thickness. Regardless, since I purchased it less than a month ago, I have dropped it once on pavement. Getting out of my car my phone fell out of my pocket and onto pavement in a parking lot. The corner was scuffed, but my phone was fine! When I rubbed the scuff to see if the case was scratched or not, the scuff came off too! All is well. Buy this case.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Poor Design This Time I've always purchased Otterbox phone cases and have been happy with them - they've usually been rock solid. However, this case wasn't designed as well as previous ones. Basically, the hard "shell" part of the case doesn't wrap around the top, right corner of the inner, silicone "sleeve". Given that the sleeve is slightly too big towards the top, it curves out and away from the phone, leaving a gap for dust to get in (see photos. It also is just annoying to always have this bubble when holding the case. The case is not bad otherwise - this issue kinda ruined it for me though. Would be happy to update this review if Otterbox is able to help with this issue.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bad Design As noted in other reviews for other phones, the Commuter series degrades in the upper left corner extending down below the power button. The result is that the rubber surrounding the phone begins to pull away and arch about an 1/8" out from the phone and can be easily expanded further by simply sliding your finger up the inner slide on the glass. This degradation also occurs on the left side, but does not bow out as much. There are two major issues with this: (1 The volume buttons become very difficult to press. You end up having to wiggle it slightly to get the rubber to seat on the button. (2) If you drop your phone in this condition and you are unlucky enough to have it land on that corner, it will crack the screen. Happened to me and now I have a broken screen. I do prefer the the Commuter over the Defender and have been using the Commuters since I had a Samsung S3. The added bulk of the Defender is a turn off, but may be the better route due to this design issue. This issue isn't new; I experienced it with my S5, S6, S8, and S10 also. I've attached a picture showing the flaw (and resulting cracked screen :-( ).

Love the way they feel..I noticed by the camera was a lil loose and wondered if it would hold up.. it didn't, it's now really loose at the top right. Just a bit disappointed that it was overlooked when I could sense the problem from my first feel/like.

This leaves a 1/8" gap between the phone and the protective liner. The other corners are also stretched out, but not as bad. I chose this model because I wanted something less bulky than the Defender, but more protection than the Symmetry. This version of the Commuter fails compared to previous models I’ve used.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does not hold up veryi long Have usually gotten an otterbox case when I got a new phone as I always felt my phone was secure inside of it. It is not the case with this. I have already been thru 2 of these cases and both of them stretched out around the camera and was not from removing and reinstalling the case, was just normal use in my pocket. Both times happened around 2-3 months after installing the new case. I got a replacement the first time and same thing happened again within 3 months and decided not to even bother getting another one since it would just happen again. After dealing with it for a while the whole top of the case is very loose now and phone sometimes pops out of the case and is barely held in anymore. Pretty sure my warranty is up for the case and would not want the same case again because I would just be dealing with the same issues again in a few months anyways. Just want to help others not buy these and end up with the same frustrations and issues down the road.

It wasn't too bulky, felt like it protected the phone great, and I love the cover that goes over the charging port. That being said, a few months after purchase, I started to notice some stretching by the volume and power buttons. I tried to be easy with that area so it wouldn't stretch anymore, but it got worse and worse. Now it's to the point that it barely covers the buttons, and they usually won't work if I tried to press them through the case. I'm really disappointed because now I need a new case altogether and this was my favorite design. Obviously I don't want to buy the same one again, so I tried the Symmetry series case that I could customize ($70 but it's VERY thin and I didn't care much for it. I don't want to spend $70 on ANOTHER case, so now I'm back to the stretched out one. I just feel like for the price and the brand, their products should last longer or not have defaults.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Poor Design I've had the commuter series for the past 3 generation of phones, each exceeding expectations. This case however, stretched out in just a few weeks. I started a warranty claim and received a new case. Several weeks later the new case stretched out again. At this point I realized that its the design problem with the case. I called customer service to try to get a refund or get a different case, but the representative refused, he did offer to get me a new Commuter Series case and wave the shipping cost, but I do not want to call customer service every 3 weeks to replace defective case.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Would never buy again. Very disappointed in this case design. In the two year I had my phone, my case broke twice. The 2nd time my case broke, it was still usable however the case wasn't tight to the phone. Unfortunately, my phone fell on tile and the screen broke. Otterbox has been my go to for phone cases in my adult life, but I will be reconsidering that decision moving forward because of the lack of quality in this case.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Time to change brands! I've used Otterbox for well over a decade for all of my families devices. I personally have always stuck with the Commuter model. I purchased one for my S21 Ultra 5G which at first was perfect. Then within about half a year it ended up getting way to stretched out. I have had this happen in the past but not as bad. I figured it was a fluke and bought a 2nd one. Same thing! Within less than half a year it has stretched out sooo bad that I can't even push my volume and power buttons properly. I hate to say it but I think it's time to switch brands. I'm not paying top dollar for a product that goes to junk and forces me to buy another in such a short time. These aren't meant to be purchased as a consumeable!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from not enough grip on the case This is a great case for protection, however, there is room for improvement. This case is composed of 2 pieces, the inner hard rubber, and the outer hard plastic. The plastic outer has little to no grip, and the hard rubber isn't grippy either. The sides of the case do have serrations, but not at the place one's put their fingers. Consequently, it is quite difficult to get a proper secure hold of the phone. Especially, when you are taking pictures near a cliff or a ledge, you might want to hold the phone extra firm but the case provides little grip. It is quite frustrating.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So Far So Good I've had my Galaxy S21 Ultra in this case going on 3 weeks now and I feel confident in the level of protection it provides. I've dropped it twice - once from the couch to hardwood and once from my lap sitting in my truck to the concrete outside. Normally I would cringe, especially from the latter. I was quickly reminded why I've used Otterbox over the years aside from my last phone (which was a costly mistake). I cannot recommend this enough. If you want peace of mind for such an expensive investment, there's no better choice. Fits perfectly, protects fantastically.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Tough but slippery I bought the case recently and I am considering returning it for another brand. It is a tough case, I'm sure. it fits well and looks ok, although it has the typical utilitarian, look of an Otterbox. The company clearly doesn't care about looks when they design their cases, but that isn't what they go for. They go for toughness and in this case, that's a good thing. The case is quite slippery and the design on the outside is a little baffling in this regard. The top half of the case has rubberized grips along the sides so that when you hold it up there, the feel and grip is fairly secure. But the lower half of the case, where most people will actually hold it, is very slick. The back is hard plastic as well and very slick with no grip. The phone has slipped, but not fallen a few times already. I'd look for alternatives if I were you. As I said, I will likely return this one. Even though it likely does its job against breakage due to falls, it WILL likely fall due to the design and slippery surfaces. I don't want to take the risk on an expensive phone and case!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Poor design, doesn't fully protect phone I've used Otterbox in the past and really liked how well the case protected my phone, sow when I bought a new phone earlier this year I didn't hesitate to pay the high price for this case. Unfortunately, it hasn't even been 6 months and the case is warping from the phone around the volume buttons - enough where I can see the edge of the phone. This phone was incredibly expensive so I wasn't surprised that the cases for it would be, too, but I'm finding myself having to spend another $50-70 on a new case just to feel that it's being fully protected. I'm hoping that Otterbox will correct the flaw and provide free replacements ASAP.

The plastic part is slowly outstretching and it's annoying .

This has flexible on the inside with hard case on outside. Glad it didn't come with the clip. Just wish there were more colors. Women are Commuters also and a deep wine or other feminine color besides blue and black would be better.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Silicone never fit right Silicone inner layer was stretched out from the start and when I called I was offered a new one but I had to pay $10. Manufacturing defects should be covered under warranty without charge, tons of companies have good warranties but not OtterBox. The only good thing I can say is that the buttons have a nice feel to them.

Called Otterbox, best they could do was replace the case, or give me 30% a different case. What a joke. Dont waste your money, either buy the best case they have or none at all. This was trash. Not coming back.

Too bad I only noticed after I dropped my phone. Good thing I had a screen protector that cracked instead of my screen. I usually love Otterbox, so I bought another. Seemed to fit well, but it's been under 4 months, and both sides are stretched out, giving no protection.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Doesn't Hold Up Seems to be of quality construction - but the engineering of the case is flawed because after a few months of use the right top of the case loses its shape to the point that I now find that the volume buttons on the case are no longer aligned with the phone's volume buttons. Otterbox produces quality products and it's disappointing that they let this design go into production.

I've had numerous drops and a toddler throwing the phone and no damage. The only damaged I ever incurred was when I dropped my keys on the screen scratching it which is the only open area the Otter box doesn't protect. The cost of the Otter box compared to a $1,000 phone pales in comparison. Otter box has a loyal customer for life!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Doesn't retain shape After a few months of using this. The constant in and out of my pocket has made the rubber part not sit on the phone anymore. Right above the volume buttons the case has about an 1/8th of an inch gap between the inside of the case and the phone. A lot of times the case just pulls right off the phone when taking it out of my pocket. Other than that it isn't too bad, but I wouldn't recommend if you are going to be keeping it in your pants pocket.

The lady at Otterbox who helped me place the order was new there. Keep her if you can. She was extremely helpful. Said she had recently started working there. Got me exactly what I wanted. Quick delivery. Fits like a glove. Thank you so very much!! I can't imagine I will ever buy any other brand case for my phone. This Otterbox is very nice.

I contacted support and was sent a replacement immediately. The replacement case arrived damage upon shipping ! I notified them once again and another case was sent with no issues whatsoever. The case has been on my device for two weeks now and I have had no issues. It also works well with my screen protector by amFilm.

This is my first time using an otter box so it might be normal but i thought i should voice my concerns. Ill probably try another otter box case instead of this one maybe the defender series.

I am a diehard otterbox person but this case is CRAP. I am on replacement number 3 with no avail. The case stretches out about about 3 months and then doesn't fit the phone properly for the protection. This is not the otterbox quality I am use to nor expect.

Like my previous Commuters, this one for S21 Ultra is 5 stars. Even better than the one I had for my S10+ because it is easier to re-insert the phone back into the case after use on the charging pad.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great cover workout being bulky I have had this case for 3+ years on my old phone and bought a new one for the phone I just ordered . I couldn't tell you how many times I've dropped my phone and yet I've got no scratches or cracks. It works without being built like a tank. Otterbox cases are well worth the money.

Like my previous Commuters, this one for S21 Ultra is 5 stars. Even better than the one I had for my S10+ because it is easier to re-insert the phone back into the case after use on the charging pad.

Took the dogs on a quick run and my phone managed to work it's way out of my pocket and fell directly on hard concrete, bouncing several times. I was sure it was done, however this case saved it! Not even a scratch.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worth the money This is my second Otter box phone case and it's saved me having to purchase phone insurance for cracked screens and damaged phone cases. I've had numerous drops and a toddler throwing the phone and no damage. The only damaged I ever incurred was when I dropped my keys on the screen scratching it which is the only open area the Otter box doesn't protect. The cost of the Otter box compared to a $1,000 phone pales in comparison. Otter box has a loyal customer for life!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does not fit as well as previous OtterBox cases. Very nice case, but if you look at it, it does not fit well where the volume buttons are, you see a bit of a space while looking at the phone.
