Best physical network upgrade
I have added a lot of things to my network over the years. This time I just simply ran out of ports on my Nighthawk x6. As I was looking for things to help me I found the GS308E. The way I can manage all the ports and make sure the devices only have the speed they can use is such an important feature to keeping my network fast! I have used Netgear products as long as I can remember. They are always my first choice!

Everything I needed. There is an app that allows you to actually configure the device by phone. Very easy to setup. Turned my one RJ45 wall jack into 7 usable ports to increase ethernet connectivity since I don't like using wireless for my office gear.

Easy to use and fast
I have this switch configured for two virtual networks. One is the ISP "Internet" side of my router and the other is my local network. Both run at full gigabit speed and it only took a few minutes to figure out how to set it is. This switch has a very easy learning curve.

This is an excellent switch. My previous 5-port switch was full, and some ports didn't support devices I had tried using with it. With two different port groupings, this switch handled all of my requirements immediately upon plugging it in!

I am using this for home use and it is much more than some may think is needed for home use but with the new mesh wifi systems they come with limited ports and I still have more physical connections and this more than fills the gap and so far seems rock solid.

Excellent throughput and Control
My cable internet has a problem when running a large backup tot he cloud. It places a priority on upload packet acknowledgements which slows down downloads to a crawl. I hoped that the ability to control QOS and bandwidth for certain ports world let me even out the effect of the mass upload. The combination of QOS and flow control did the trick and I was able to go from a lowly 2mb upload speed to 8mbs while my cloud backup was running. Love the Netgear Smart Switch and the ability to control bandwidth of different ports !!!

Very Easy to Use Great Small Network Device
The Netgear 8 Port and also the 5 Port Managed Switches are a Dream for the Small Network Designer and Manager or Administrator. They are easy to setup, the manual is informative and helpful, and they Work Great. Which is really the Most Important Consideration. Once Configured, they do not need constant attention or Refreshing. Will use more often on small Business Networks that are becoming part of our offerings. Exactly what I needed
I had a lightning strike take out, well, a bunch of stuff. Eventually I was able to narrow the main damaged part to my old, unmanaged switch. I was able to get back up and running super quick with this, and with better network controls for a great price, all in under 2 days.

What a great switch! The product has such plug-and-play simplicity with the depth of customization and security should you decide you want to take things a little deeper. The associated app enables you to manage things quickly and intuitively; it's a great tech purchase for the most neophyte of techies and the expert who wants a little more control without shelling for the next model up. Individual, traceable IPs, DHCP or Static for the switch itself. And it's built solidly too. If I were to accidentally drop it, I'd fear for the flooring more than the device. Well done, Netgear.

A great switch with helpful management features
I replaced my switch with this one because it was nearly impossible for me to know the connection speeds of the devices I had plugged into it. Now I know exactly what the connection speed it of every device. This already helped me identify a few cables that needed to be replaced for optimal performance. I wish I bought it sooner.

App failed
Spent 45 minutes trying to get the app to recognize the unit. Finally, returned unit for a standard switch. This unit was for a residence with 4 cable lines. A smart switch was overkill and one more app on my phone.

Great little managed switch
If all you need is a 1Gb switch, then you can't really go wrong with this one. We have a couple of these switches in our home, now that we're both working from home all the time and there are a lot of devices passing a lot of data traffic throughout the house and from/into the outside world. I love that there is some management of the switch available, especially at such a low price. Frankly, our next step will be a fully managed 10Gb switch but for the moment, the Netgear is awesome.

1 The Router arrived WELL before projected delivery date. *****2) I set it up, discovered that the firmware was out of date, found the update, and applied it in minutes. *****3) Has worked flawlessly, and is doing a great job, with a bunch of VLAN configs and other tasty stuff!!! *****This is a great deal for the money!Get one!

No complaints at all. Handles all our traffic, way to install and hookup. Would have liked a mounting template to drill holes, but a crayon rubbing solved that issue in 90 seconds.

Great smart switch, lacks LACP LAGG protocol
I researched and was led to believe (like many others after searching for an answer to why) that this supported LACP / LAGG (LAG) that would allow dual ethernet out to my SEEED that has two ethernet and can handle this protocol. Oh well, my fault for not researching, but hopefully you read this and buy with that extra knowledge.

Managed Switch was unmanagable
I was unable o access the GUI for the switch, Netgear support ticket resolution was to return the device for another. I hope the replacement is not faulty.

Most User Friendly Switch.
This was my first managed switch that I got for my own personal use. I have used both Cisco and HP Enterprise manages switches in the workplace but this small 8 port managed switch is great for personal use. It gives you nearly everything that you could want from a managed switch including trunking (which surprised me). It has a high quality metal finish and you could even mount it to a wall (which is nice if you don’t have desk space for it). This is by far the best consumer grade managed switch and at a great price too.
