Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just say "no" 30 years in IT and I've never encountered a more difficult and time consuming hardware device to install. I had two of these to install today for a customer.. Took 2 hours total. It took 45 min each just to update the printer before you could even begin to start installation. It takes no less than 3 pieces of software and an online account to complete the installation. If I had purchased it for myself I would have boxed it back up the minute I saw it requires HP Smart or an online account and returned it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Terrible - don't buy I work in IT - this was the worst setup process ever. Client bought the printer - I came to set it up. What this doesn't tell you is that you NEED to connect to a network to get it setup (even though it can print via USB). It also REQUIRES you to register the device. It's a dumb printer - its not a giant MFP. This should have been a 5 minute setup.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Never got it to connect to becone operational I received the HP Laser Jet Pro 4001ne to review how it worked. I took time for 4 days to try and get this printer connected. I used my Cell Phone Samsung S20, HP Pavilion laptop, and a Dell Chromebook. I was never able to get the connected to my home WiFi. I contacted HP and they got email and the just closed the ticket. I tried three different OS and still could not get past where the instructions said to press the "antenna " button on the printer. My display has no button like that. The Display only has 5 buttons and none are what is needed to connect to WiFi. I spend at least 10 hours trying to get this printer to and I never got it operational at all. Customer Service did not help at all.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Only prints over internet Requires constant internet connection to use so it's useless in a lot of instances where you need to use it offline and it presents a lot more issues with communicating with computers over the network. Do not recommend this printer

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Totally Useless Completely useless. Website asks you for a code to activate and says to print a test page to get it but you can't print a test page until it is activated. I got this out of the trash and the person that threw it away got it out of someone else's trash. This is is brand new, never used and has already been thrown away by 3 people. It is literally manufactured e-waste. Buy a dell or, better yet buy a brother. Those printers actually work and don't try to force you into a pointless ink subscription.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Reliable and proven with quality This printer was very reliable in terms of modern day printers, I have had a previous printer that was very unreliable that I had given up on wireless and printers in general. This printer gave me piece of mind for any important document, I was given this printer as a free sample for review.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I understand that change is not always good. This was the worst printer I have ever had from Hp. Couldn’t get it even to work. I had to send it back.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice printer, perfect for home office I received a free sample in order for me to review this product. Overall it's a good printer but I had a hard time setting it up. The set up guide made it seem like we could set this up with Wi-Fi but had no luck. Once I finally had the printer set up it work great. It's small enough to fit any office or home office.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from USB connected HP 4001ne gives Internet connection error continuously HP has lost their minds. HP 4001ne continually freaks out because it is not connected to internet as a personal USB printer . HP Smart isn't and overcomplicating a simple Grayscale printer is useless to the consumer. WASTE of TIME AND MONEY!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Printer, Not so Great Software I was given this printer free to review. Overall I would not say this printer is bad, but I also would no recommend it. It certainly handles the function of "printing" very well. It's speeds are definitely up to par or better from what you would expect. Quality is nice as well for a black and white printer. That out the way, the behind the scenes of this machine is daunting and concerning. Setup was atrocious. Never heard of a printer requiring only an online setup before, which as expected was filled with hurdles. My last HP I literally plug in and print within minutes. This one required some doing to get my network to accept it. Also have to create an account, and verify the account, which required emails which I wasn't receiving. Then not only does it have to sync with your computer it syncs with your account? It was messy to say the least. Also seems to require you to be online to print which is just...unsettling. Certainly seems like a way for HP to force an end of life to the machine once they want you to buy a new one. Don't like that. The instant ink idea seems like it would be okay but it sort of locks you into needing to print a lot each month, sheets carry over but I don't see it as a better route versus just buying the carts. Is advantageous to not have to buy a whole cart outright but I think overall you end up spending more. The always online feature also means you cannot buy remanufactured carts or refill, which is just terrible for the environment. There's more plastic in our ocean than fish at this point and it is upsetting to see a large company like HP continuing to contribute to that with this crusade to not allow refill carts. Though the packaging in the box was more minimal than I have gotten in the past which was nice to see. Over all again, printer certainly prints well, but forced overwatching overlord always online side of this machine is a turn off for me. Plus it doesn't work that well from a connectivity side. Printers are notorious for having network issues and the ole reliable usb cord saves the day in those cases, but with this having to be online you are out of luck if your network is having issues. I just do not think these are the features customers were looking for, I know I certainly wasn't.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Doesn't work Literally impossible to set up. You need to "sync with the cloud" to "activate" printing, but in order to activate printing you need to print a test page with a verification code and enter in the code on your computer but you can't print a test page without activating printing... and so on... Gone are the days when you can just plug a printer in and go. Waste of time. Buy a different brand.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Horrible to setup We just started getting these for our organization and they are horrible to setup. One has bricked on the setup and the other will not setup properly. Worst idea HP had ever had on initial printer setup.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for school I received a free sample of the HP LaserJet Pro 4001ne. I love this printer! I work in a Psychology office in a school and use this printer to print all of my documents and materials for my services with students. It is quick, efficient, and aesthetically appealing. I love how much paper it holds at once and how quick it gets to work once I send documents through. Definitely recommend!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Horrible new feature requiring Printer to be connected to network 100% of the time Purchased this unit in the last week and the setup required us to hook it up permanently to our network. I tried to do that and it would not register through the network. I tried using the HP Smart app to activate and it could not find the printer to pair because the printer was not on the network, the printer control panel suggested using different HP software. When using the HP Smart App it kept asking me to find the computer it would search and find it only when it was hard wired to the computer, drivers installed but could never initialize the computer, round and round I go and couldnt get it setup without hiring a network specialist for 150$ per hour.
