Rated 5 out of 5 by from Compact, inexpensive, nicely designedI was looking for a printer that would print 3.5x5 photos, and my HP2540 would not go that small, even in custom mode. The specs for the 1112 said it would make 3X5 prints, so I figured I could customize it to print 3.5x5. To my surprise, 3.5x5 is in the print size menu. They really should show that in the specs, because few machines print that size. This is a one function printer, and it does it well. I am very happy with it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The "BEST" Printer Ever For The Price !!!!!I Was Able To Print In A Manner Of Seconds After Plugging The Wires Into The HP Printer. VERY User Friendly. From This Point On I Will ONLY Buy an HP Printer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for the priceMy eleven year old HP 3550 printer finally died, so I needed a replacement. It had to be something that would fit on an 18x12 inch shelf. I don't need a fax or scanner, and I don't print photos. I just need something for occasional document printing. And, I didn't want to pay a lot. There's not much to pick from in this category. I checked the usual sources and then stumbled on the HP direct site. It was the best deal I could find. The printer arrived three days after I ordered it and everything was in good shape. Set-up was super easy. The most time consuming part was when the program was checking for Windows updates. It took a long time. Print quality is about the same as my old 3550. It is not as sharp as my Wife's HP 5900, but then that cost about three times as much. But, it's perfectly acceptable for most uses. It is much faster than the 3550.To my eyes, the design is pretty ugly. It looks like a giant casserole dish. But, I can live with that. I have one minor complaint. The 3550 would automatically turn itself on when you sent it a print job. The 1112 doesn’t. You have to push the power button. And, it turns itself off after two hours. I guess somehow that saves energy, but it's kind of a pain. Otherwise, I'm very happy with it. If it lasts 11 years I'll be even happier. Two things I should note: It doesn't come with a USB cable. I don't think that' s a big deal but you should be aware that you will need one. And, I've only printed a few pages so far so I can't speak for reliability.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice printing, difficult installOnce I got it installed I found the printing to be very clear and the starting speed surprisingly fast. I have not yet tested it on envelopes. The installation was very difficult for me. First, I have a hard time understanding pictures, so setting the printer up took a long time, and it was only luck I figured out how to install the cartidges. The Windows install was very elaborate and asked all sorts of questions I didn't want to answer, and that I think are unnecessary. I think HP is just grabbing what info they can. Then , I had to install it on my Linux computer. However, the documentation does not say ANYWHERE that this printer requires a very recent version of HPLIP in order to run. Again, I stumbled on that fact by accident as I was looking for solutions. The HPLIP installation was a nightmare -- it just is not documented well, and I had to start over twice. The good news: once I got HPLIP installed it found the printer and set it up. It now works fine. I think better documentation is needed everywhere for this printer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simple to use-Small FootprintI had an all in one printer that was quite large. I wanted to go with one that was smaller. The tray where your printed documents come out folds in when not in use. It is a space saver and attractive.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Okay PrinterThe printer does an okay job considering the low cost. I guess you get what you pay for. My major complaint with HP is the absurd prices for replacement cartridges. The cost to replace the cartridges for this printer is more than the printer itself.
