I replaced an identical cartridge with this one and this one shows up that it needs to be replaced. This is the third time this has happened with this color. I do not have this problem with the replacement of the other colors that my printer requires. Why this color?

They do not seem to last all that much longer than ordinary (non-xl) cartridges, so I'm not sure they are worth the extra cost. I wish you would label all cartridges with amount of contents, so we could verify the difference. You used to do this for earlier printer cartridges.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very poor performance I only order printer ink cartrdiges from the HP Store. I ordered 940XL in black, cyan, magenta, and yellow on August 8 and installed August 13. This is a work only printer (black print only). I printed a total of 56 pages and printer stopped working showing out of ink. Why pay the extra $$ for XL cartridges when you only get 56 pages of print out of the cartridges?

Went to HP's website and there I could order just a yellow cartridge. Hooray!! And, it appeared the next morning with free shipping. What could be better!

I print my own cards in my small business about-small-dogs.com and I can go through a lot of ink. The Canon Pixma printers produce a lovely product but at almost double the cost. I think the HP Officejet does just as good a job.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from More expensive than oil. The 940XL cartridge is of good quality, but is so expensive that I am seriously considering buying cartridges elsewhere. For the amount of ink that you receive in these cartridges, if you don't print numerous items every day it would be advantageous to go with a laser printer. You waste more ink with all the head cleaning cycles.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good but too expensive I love HP products and have never been disappointed with any of them. However, ink prices are simply too high. I am tempted to use the refill kits, but that concerns me so I have not done so. Also, several dealers (Office Depot, Office Max, Staples) offer a reward for returning used ink cartridges but you do not. I would suggest doing something other than sending a bag to mail it back to you. But, as always I am happy with my HP product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from HP 940XL A good product. Separating the ink from the heads was a very good idea! The design of the carts makes them much easier to handle. It would help to have a version that contained much more ink to last longer, like the black cartridge. There needs to be a "Photo Gray" version as well for black and white photography. It would help to have some "mixing balls" inside to better mix the ink when the cartridge is shaken, as per directions. Also, the ink is still rather easily washed off in water. An additive is needed to react with cellulose in the papers to make the ink "bullet proof" (much like the new check writers inks). The newer "proof" inks can't be washed or bleached off by any means! Although good for photography, the inks need to be somewhat more vivid. All in all, four out of five stars.

My printer ask me to update my printer and when I pushed on the botton, it told me I didn't have approval to get my updates. Be nice to be able to keep my printer running properly if I could get the updates needed.

It annoys me that when all I want to do is print a black only copy of a black only page, that my printer won't work if even just one color cartridge is out of ink. I do appreciate being able to buy the extended ink, long life cartridge.

I got my ink cartridge quickly, safely packaged and delivered, and am able to print without exporting the work to the printer via thumbdrive or remote print command--and there's nothing like being able to have the product when and where I need it. The "return" envelope enclosed with the package was especially thoughtful in case there was a problem with the order. The whole issue was handled responsively, economically, and personally/professionally. I appreciate all of that!
