The Targus HD3 Gaming Chill Mat is specifically designed to cool up to 18" high-performance laptops. This cooling system features three ultra-quiet, highly efficient fans with bearings that have twice the rated lifespan than standard cooling device fans. An adjustable fan speed dial features precise, tactile control so it's easy to adjust the cooling level without taking your eyes off of the laptop screen. The durable aluminum alloy grill is lightweight and cool to the touch. Its industrial, perforated design was built to improve heat dissipation while the laptop is in use. Advanced airflow straighteners help focus the air right where you need it most while reducing air turbulence for more targeted and efficient cooling. The non-skid elastomer feet provide a stable grip so the chill mat does not slide while the laptop is being used. A convenient LED indicator light is positioned on the front corner of the device so you always know when it's powered.

Product Reviews
Rated 3.2 out of 5 by 10reviewers.
Rated 4 out of 5 by Good, solid product, lacks a row of fans. For $60 I really expected more from this fan. While is does a good job of keeping my laptop cooler, having only one row of fans simply just doesn't do the job well enough. I feel the mat needs another two rubber pieces on the lower half of the topside to elevate the laptop, as the top two simply don't do well enough. My laptop has the video card in the bottom left half of the computer - under the palm rest - which gets very hot. The only row of fans are in the upper half. While the top half of the laptop stays cool to the touch, the bottom half does not. I suggest a new product with another row of fans to help with this. Replacing all the plastic with metal would be a huge plus too - even at the sacrifice of weight. July 19, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by I have a slightly different model, but have had several CHill Pads over the years. I have not found them to be noisy, and they are so effective, the laptop is downright icy.My only complaint to Targus - modify them so they have extendable legs or something in the back to support the docking station. Right now, I have to prop my docking station up with a couple PostIt pads. June 21, 2013
Rated 2 out of 5 by Way too Loud This product hits about 71 dB (decibels) at the max level. (there's only 3 levels in this machine) (This sounds like you're on a highway in a car with windows open except the swishing sound is constant and not momentary) oh apparently this is equal to a vacuum cleaner.65 dB at medium (it sounds like a normal Air Conditioner on maximum wind power)=conversation at a restaurant,52 dB at weak. (it makes this clogged or as if small metal balls bouncing on top of a metal plate sound, ticking sound)= large electrical machines. It does cool my laptop down by 2-3 degrees celsius after 20 min. but that's on max. I don't want to listen to a vacuum cleaner for the entire time i use the laptop or even 20 min. If you want to listen to music on speakers. You gotta blast it or else you'll hear the fan. Rated 2 out of 5 by Poor design, no ciruculation resting on lap It died within in 7 or 8 months Poor design. The two fans are spread out, sitting atop each leg, so circulation is cut off. Then it died. Awful. Don't buy May 30, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Works great for me. I bought this for a lot cheaper than the MSRP, but when I put my little ol' HP laptop on it and started gaming away I was happy with how low the heat was while the fans were active. This really really keeps things cool. So far this is working GREAT. My laptop is a lot smaller than a 17" laptop as its around 15.somthing inch screen. But if you place your laptop on this pad so the heat vent doesn't put hot air into the pad it keeps it cool. January 2, 2013
Rated 1 out of 5 by This thing is awful This thing was useless from day one. It was louder than I expected which didn't bother me much at first because it sort of did it's job. Gaming with and with out it I noticed either minimal difference in how hot my laptop got, or no difference at all. The quality of this thing is beyond awful. Within a month, the metal plate cover which is simply glued onto the plastic began to unstick at the bottom where it's curved. Within a few months, the wheel that controls the fan speed had loosened to the point that I could no longer turn it on. Because there is NO way to open this mat to repair it, I had to literally break it open. Breaking it open involved tearing off the flimsy thin metal plate covering the top of the pad and then breaking the holey plastic underneath to get at the insides of the pad. I was able to fix the wheel by simply tightening a loose screw but at this point I had completely destroyed the outer casing. Because I'm cheap, I duct taped the broken plastic pieces back on, along with the metal plate cover. It continued working for another month before the left fan stopped. And then the right fan stopped. Tearing it open again I discovered that a fan blade had broken off on both and was jamming the fans. After removing them the fans worked again. But then the power wheel began to loosen again and soon I could no longer turn the pad off (better than not being able to turn it on). I ignored that problem but then the usb cord started having problems. Something had broken loose inside the cord right where it connects to the pad so I had to have the cord in specific positions to make the connection. Eventually not even specific positions would work any more.So after 6 months, the pad has finally broken completely. I still use it for the only thing it's ever been good for, and that's keeping my laptop from sitting directly on anything. June 30, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by This cooler is the cooler to beat all others I've had this cooler for a while now. I have had cheap coolers in the past and finally decided with my new laptop that I would spend some money on a nice one in hopes it wouldn't die in a few months. Success! This cooler keeps my high end laptop cool and prevents over heating. Even while gaming. When I first got this laptop I had over heating, uncomfortable heat from the high end graphics card and quad core processor. Now I play any game I want, use my laptop as long as I want and never have the uncomfortable heat on my lap or under my wrist. Spend the money on this cooler. You will not regret it. I've had it over a year and it's as good as day one. The only thing you'll have to adjust to is the fans. They are a bit loud. But nothing you won't adjust to quickly, and certainly worth it for the results it gives. June 12, 2012
Rated 3 out of 5 by Product started off great but--- I have the PA248U, have had for three years. Fans only work half speed on one and almost full on other one. Fan chatters and noisy. Although 3 years may seem like a good life, I don't run a business 24/7 on it, so for sporatic use thought it would last longer. Don't know what the life expectancy should be. I was offered a 20% discount on a new order, but for that money I'll just shop for a sale on something. Maybe I'm expecting too much from computer assesories. October 6, 2011
