Product Reviews
TP-LINK TL-WR940N - wireless router - 802.11b/g/n - desktop is rated 3.0 out of 5 by 28.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Decent little home router for low bandwidth users After unboxing this little gem, the setup was the normal easy TPLink setup screens. I love the fact that TPLINK isnt changing their setup wizard. The router came online very easilly and quickly and worked very well. As I added more devices (>7) the router seemed to slow down and speeds started suffering. This is a good router for a small home with limited devices. Setup was easy and it worked out of the box! Rated 4 out of 5 by from Multi-Mode Router This wireless-N router is a good basic router on its own, provided that you don't have a lot of Internet demands; however, its true power comes from its ability to be used as a simple router, a range extender, or an access point. Because it's relatively small with a body of 9"W x 5.5"D x 1"H (the three antennae add another 7.5" in height), I'm using mine as a shelf-top range extender. As a range extender, it uses the same SSID (wireless network name) as your home network so that devices previously on that network should pick up it automatically. Set-up is easy, no matter which mode you settle on. It does have a couple of downsides, though: it's a wireless 11N, not AC, device, with speed limited to a max of 450Mbps, and it is single-band. It makes up for the single-band, though, by using 3x3 MIMO technology to split the single band into three. And unless you have a household full of gamers and streamers, you may not need dual- or tri-band wireless-AC technology. The WR940N has five antennae, three external; four Ethernet ports; one WAN port; and no USB slots. It comes with a white Ethernet cable, a power pack/cord, and an easy-to-understand Quick Start Guide. If you customize your settings in router mode, you can add a guest network and enable parental controls. Submitted as part of a free sample program.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Budget Router Budget but very powerful router. Great basic design and great budget price. As long as your internet speed is under 100mbps this router will be just fine (unless you need better WiFi needs) I was able to achieve just right around 95mbps wired but only around 60mbps wireless (this will vary) one of the 2 reasons I knocked off a star, the other being no gigabit. But not everyone needs that. This is a very powerful router CPU wise though, It can handle very heavy demand and tons of clients connected at one. Put this one at a local gym for a few days to put it to the test. 70+ Clients (20 of them wired) It did not once choke! It kept up with the demand and never failed or lagged. I do like that it has the older style TP-Link Firmware design which I dearly miss on the newer products. Submitted as part of a free sample program.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy setup, slick looking Simple and Straightforward. It was pretty easy to set up even for someone like me who is not very tech savvy. I haven't experienced any issues with connectivity, and when I tested the internet speed it was decent. I am a pretty low bandwidth user so I may not have tested the product to its limit. I do wish the antenna is tighter, it sometimes drops down when you have to move the device around. Overall, solid device, gets the work done. Submitted as part of a free sample program.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Wireless N Router This wireless N router is great for anyone that does not need the bells and whistles of the wireless AC technology. The device works great with laptops, tablets and other devices that only have the wireless N tech. The speeds are great but not as fast as you would get with the AC. Overall great product with a low profile design. Submitted as part of a free sample program.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Unacceptable errors in quick start menu make setup a guess The only manual shipped with this is a quick start one page version with incorrect info about how to log in to their site to manage or change password. It says to use "admin" for both ID and password but the tp-link site prohibits this! It forces you to register a "purchasing account", that is unacceptable. Regardless of how good or poor the hardware is, this unforgivable blunder means a one star rating.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Router For The Money Hardware version 6 *Setting Up The TL-WR940N Setting up the router for the first time is pretty easy. And once you have everything connected, you should be online in less than 5 minutes. When you're ready to dig into the router's settings to customize to your liking, there are a load of options for you to dig into. The router's web management page is very nicely done, too. All the different settings are laid out perfectly and easy to navigate. *Wired & Wireless Performance After getting the router set up and running, I ran some speed tests. One over Ethernet, one over Wi-Fi, and it performed well. Listed below is the current Internet plan I am subscribed to, and the speed test results while using the TL-WR940N router (version 6). *My Internet Plan: Download 75 Mbps / Upload 10 Mbps *Wired: Download 90.36 Mbps / Upload 12.08 Mbps *W-Fi Performance: Download 89.43 Mbps / Upload 12.12 Mbps Those are some great speed test results! I do live in a smallish 4 bedroom home, so I'd most likely get decent wireless coverage regardless of what router I was using. However, I do have a very large backyard area, and the router provides decent coverage in and around my home. I can sit in my backyard and stream HD videos without any issues at all. It works surprisingly good. This is an inexpensive wireless N router, and for most people, will be all you need to set up a decent home or small office network. For those needing a more advanced network and will be using devices with their routers that support wireless AC technology, consider purchasing a router that supports wireless AC technology, instead of wireless N. This will future-proof your network somewhat, as most all recent mobile devices (phones, tablets, and laptops) these days support wireless AC. And TP-Link has plenty of wireless AC routers for you to choose from. Best of luck setting up your network! Submitted as part of a free sample program

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Value, Simple, and Reliable Router For the price, this is a fantastic basic Wi-Fi router. I find that this is a perfect Wi-Fi router for non-power users that only have a moderate number of simultaneously connected wireless devices. It is also important to note that the Ethernet ports max out at 100Mbps. Hence, this is best suited for smaller homes with a < 100Mbps internet connection coming in. The idea is to have an easy to setup wireless solution, without any of the more advanced Wi-Fi features found on more expensive routers. In my tests, I found the range was quite impressive, considering this is only a Wi-Fi N variant. The antennas certainly helped a great deal (they are massive!) Another bonus was is that this router is very energy efficient and barely got warm when in use. This router also worked well as a range extender. If you do not care for the newer wireless AC technology, 5GHz frequency bands, and all the extra features, then this is the perfect router. I would recommend this router to anyone wanting to go wireless N on a budget. Submitted as part of a free sample program.
