Rated 1 out of 5 by from Prefer the old Optima 45 We purchased 10 of the Optima 45 that used the 1/4" staples from 2012-2016 for our office and love them. I just purchased 2 more Optima 45 and didn't realized they had been redesigned for 3/8" staples. They are also extremely loud like a gun firing and the staples do not lay flat on the back. The 2 redesigned versions are going back because they don't fit our need. We'd love to have the old version back.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not Reliable This stapler is unfortunately more work than it's worth. When I staple a few pages, the stapling mechanism goes up and then immediately comes back down. It doesn't staple a second time, but the mechanism rests on the paper, holding it tightly in. The only way to release this is by unplugging the stapler and then plugging it back in again. And it does this each time I staple, so it takes longer to staple multiple items using this stapler than a manual, hand stapler. Unfortunately I waited too long to research the problem to look for a solution (apparently there is none, this is a design flaw) and now I am stuck with a defective stapler. I would not recommend this product.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Horrible This is the only stapler that my team likes and they break down all the time. We have to replace each person's twice a year. I just found out that they have a warranty and hopefully this helps.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Loud & non functional We purchased two of the Optima 45 last year and were quite happy with them. Purchased one this week and the new design is horrible. Very loud, sound like a small gun going off. Additionally they no longer do the flat clinch which is one of the reasons for the purchase. It will be going back.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from LOUD I have purchased Optima 45 in the past several years for my company. I purchased one in April and received the updated version which now uses 3/8" staples instead of 1/4". This stapler is too loud. I had to return. It sounds like a gun firing. I staple over 300 papers a day. The noise is unacceptable.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Why did Swingline change the design and functions? I recently purchased another one of these as it was quiet and stapled documents flat. Now the manual/auto switch was removed and it is loud as can be when in use. it is also bigger than before. I dont like the new style or the fact that it can use heavy duty staples as I didnt need that function. Wont buy again Ill have to find something like the previous design.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Too Fidgety Can it staple? Yes. But it is a fidgety stapler. Confidence is higher with a manual stapler; however, an electric stapler by design does speed up a process and makes office work more efficient. The retractable "nose" is flimsy. Reloading is simple, but confidence in product (the "nose"in particular) is low. Have had for several years now and staples continue to jam at the tip. Would have greater confidence in product if this device actually popped open (for staple replenishment purposes) similar to the old-fashioned manual staplers. It would allow for a stable and solid stapling experience.
