Product Reviews
SAP Enterprise Support - technical support - for SAP Sybase ASE Enterprise is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 9.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from PowerDesigner is more powerful than Erwin, including data modeling which is non-existent with Erwin. Valuable Features:The customized Data Model validation because, in short, PowerDesigner offers the capability to check if the the model was done following the best practices of data modeling . This capability can be customized to review other internal validation processes.Improvements to My Organization:Less time spent with Data Administrators and therefore more agile approvals Data Model. This is because the Data Administrator spend less time in Logical Model validation, as PowerDesigner does the majority of the checks.Use of Solution:Approximately one year.Deployment Issues:No issues encountered.Stability Issues:No issues encountered.Scalability Issues:No issues encountered.Customer Service:I have not used them.Technical Support:I have not used them.Previous Solutions:I previously used Erwin and I switched because PowerDesigner is a more powerful tool. PowerDesigner is more powerful than Erwin in many ways, but to highlight one, the capability mentioned about the Data Modeling is non-existent on Erwin and in my opinion, it is very important.Other Solutions Considered:No other options were evaluated.Disclaimer: I am a real user, and this review is based on my own experience and opinions.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Instead of publishing a web page with the link to the app, now we publish the apps via Afaria and we know who installed the app. Valuable Features:App distribution and restriction policies i.e. device settings, and OTA updated restrictions. Other valuable features are the ability to black list/white list some applications and thus selectively install the productive ones!Improvements to My Organization:Instead of publishing a web page with the link to the app, now we publish the apps via Afaria and we know who installed the app (software inventory component of Afaria). We also have a clue on how people use the corporate device and Afaria also helps enough with the telecom expense management.Room for Improvement:It should be one shot! But in the current state, you have to set-up at least five components, and if you have more than one server (we have one master plus four slaves and two relay servers) it means about 25 “installations” (about 100 next, OK, finish, cancel).Use of Solution:We've used it for five years.Technical Support:I think it depends on what you ask for. If they involve their dev team, then they can take a long time to get you a final answer, but on average the service is good.Previous Solutions:I've not used another solution.Initial Setup:The installation manuals are not beginner-friendly.Implementation Team:We implement for our customers in an in-house manner.Other Solutions Considered:I'm evaluating MobileIron.Other Advice:It is not a bad MDM platform to start with. I mean, for me it is doing what i need. In any case, i don’t have experience with others, so i can’t compare it.Disclaimer: My company has a business relationship with this vendor other than being a customer:We are SAP gold partners and we resell, install and give support for SAP Afaria to our own customers.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from It helped our organization in securing our enterprise data on mobile devices. It needs compatibility with multiple platforms and databases. Valuable Features:Enrollment based on groups.Improvements to My Organization:It helped our organization in securing our enterprise data on mobile devices.Room for Improvement:It needs compatibility with multiple platforms and databases.Use of Solution:I've used it for two years.Deployment Issues:No issues with deployment.Stability Issues:No issues with stability.Scalability Issues:No issues with scalability.Technical Support:6/10Previous Solutions:No other solution was used.Initial Setup:It wasn't too complex.Other Advice:It's a good product to implement.Disclaimer: My company has a business relationship with this vendor other than being a customer:We're partners.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from We can reverse engineer databases and create data models and documentation for clients Valuable Features:Reverse engineering a database in order to produce documentation for client to understand their database in order to support their application, perform data migration, perform system analysis, perform impact analysis, and write interfaces.Improvements to My Organization:This product is very useful when starting a new project. It helped the consultant to understand the database.Room for Improvement:No issues encountered.Use of Solution:I've been using it for about 15 years, starting with v5.0Deployment Issues:No issues encountered.Stability Issues:The product is very stable, even with no maintenance updates to purchase. There were a few bugs I have found, which I just learned to work around.Customer Service:It's very good.Implementation Team:It was implemented in-house.Other Solutions Considered:We also looked at what is now CA ERwin Data Modeler.Other Advice:It is a great product to use, but the client does not really need to purchase the software, as the consultant can reverse engineer the database, and then create the data model and documentation in order to deliver to client. The client can use the read-only version of PowerDesigner.Disclaimer: I am a real user, and this review is based on my own experience and opinions.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from The deployment is a bit complex compared to other databases, but its column-based storage is very high performance. Valuable Features:Sybase IQ is a column based database, used for business intelligence, data warehousing, and data marts. It is optimized for BI/Analytics and ad-hoc queries. Since it is column based it uses optimal storage space and very high performance.Room for Improvement:Very few people are familiar with this technology, as training programs are very expensive.Use of Solution:I've used this product for almost five years.Deployment Issues:The deployment is a bit complex compared to other databases.Stability Issues:No issues encountered.Scalability Issues:No issues encountered.Technical Support:It's good.Previous Solutions:I switched because of its column-based architecture and optimal storage.Initial Setup:It has two types of setup, Simplex, and Multiplex. Simplex is straightforward, while Multiplex is a bit complex. but once you get to grips with it, that's straightforward too.ROI:It's worth investing in.Other Advice:Good luck with it, putting in hard work will give you good returns.Disclaimer: I am a real user, and this review is based on my own experience and opinions.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from It allows us to centrally store data, but DR capabilities need improving. Valuable Features:* Ability to load data from flat files very quickly* Data compression* Fast querying for aggregationsImprovements to My Organization:IQ has enabled our company to load data from our data vendors in under one hour and eliminated multiple copies and hours of processing time.Room for Improvement:DR capabilities need to be improved. For instance, unlike SAP ASE, there is no ability to replicate from IQ to IQ.Use of Solution:I've used it for 10 years.Deployment Issues:No issues were experienced during deployment, however, we hit performance issues on Solaris which were eliminated when we migrated to the Linux platform.Stability Issues:With various patches of v15.4 and v16.0, we had instances where the IQ server crashed under certain circumstances. The vendor has addressed most of the issues though.Scalability Issues:None product-related and we were able to get around by tuning. Though as we add more data and more users we may have to consider IQ multiplex in the future.Customer Service:7/10.Technical Support:9/10.Previous Solutions:We used ASE to store the data in IQ. We switched as IQ now allows us to centrally store the data in one place and in a compressed format.Initial Setup:It's straightforward; IQ is one of the easiest DBMS to install.Implementation Team:For our initial IQ server we had Sybase consultants, and we used them again for our migration to Linux. Their expertise was 7/10.ROI:Hardware cost was the biggest savings, in the tens of thousands of dollars.Other Solutions Considered:No, as since we had Sybase ASE we took their IQ product without evaluating any other options.Other Advice:IQ is a niche product and is good for data storage with it's massive compression ability and adhoc querying. With the emergence of in-memory databases and MPP platforms (like Cassandra, HANA, Greenplum,etc.). I see IQ being used as more of a data store than interacting with the end users or apps if shops chose to use these new technologies.Disclaimer: I am a real user, and this review is based on my own experience and opinions.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The installer is very easy to understand, but the training available needs improvement. Valuable Features:* Performance* Scalability* Ease of deployment* Usability* AdministrationImprovements to My Organization:In the organizations I have worked with, SAP Sybase IQ has been used successfully as a datawarehouse solution and as data store for ad hoc querying. It delivers performance and enormous scalability.Room for Improvement:Training and marketing are two areas where improvements are needed.Use of Solution:I've used it for eight years.Deployment Issues:SAP Sybase IQ is a product which can be deployed very easily on commodity hardware.Stability Issues:Not really. In normal functioning SAP Sybase IQ is extremely stable.Scalability Issues:No. I have seen deployments of datawarehouses with tens of TB's in used space and they scaled very easily to multiple applications.Customer Service:It has been good, but more can be done in this area.Technical Support:It's good, 7/10.Initial Setup:It's straightforward in the hands of a junior level DBA. The installer is very easy to understand as long as the user has a understanding of architecture and layout of the database server.Implementation Team:It's been in-house.Cost and Licensing Advice:Understand your requirements well in terms of performance, backup, and space requirements before picking the number of licenses. If IQ is being used in a virtual environment then probably a good understanding of licensing options in a virtual environment is needed. Recently SAP has introduced some new license options, but new users should review those options with the sales team.Other Advice:Estimate the storage requirements, performance requirements, and the number of users during the planning phase. Review the documentation related to hardware sizing and best practices available on the SAP website. There is a hardware estimation guide too which helps in estimating the hardware requirements. Lastly, review the multiplexing option too and understand the implication of columnar storage in a database server.Disclaimer: I am a real user, and this review is based on my own experience and opinions.
