Product Reviews
Microsoft Surface Book with Performance Base - 13.5" - Core i7 6600U - 8 GB is rated 3.5 out of 5 by 44.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor performance! I am very disappointed with the Surface Book. This unit continuously runs hot and once the fan kicks in it never shuts off and the sound is very disturbing when operating in quite settings including work. I tried using it for taking notes with the surface pen but the hot screen is unbearable to the touch. I made this purchase thinking it was a premium product considering the high price tag but I am frustrated as a long time customer of Windows and Microsoft products.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ideal device for outside sales and everything else No more paper documents. It's all digital now. The stylus is better than writing with an actual pen. Converts to text! Every form is filled out on the tablet. When a lot of typing is necessary the laptop mode is just right. The screen size is perfect to closely match a regular paper form. This is truly a replacement for all those stacks and stacks of documents! Yet, with the i7 chip, 512GB memory I typically have 5 programs running and it handles it with ease!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent hardware, but expensive for what you get I have to say, this laptop is excellently made. If it were only for its construction, I would give this five stars. no question. The screen is beautiful, if a bit slow. Despite its detachable screen, it feels solid and sturdy. The NVMe SSD is blazing fast, and the keyboard and trackpad both feel excellent. The Windows Hello camera built in is also a nice touch.Unfortunately, I have to say I would not recommend this if you care at all about value. The top-end version costs as much as a Macbook Pro, but only includes a dual-core i7 and low-end graphics. The Surface Pen is very nice, but its high latency combined with the screen's long response time means it feels horribly laggy when trying to write. It's alright for drawing though. And the "Muscle Wire" holding the screen onto the base is somewhat inconsistent and if you pull hard enough, it releases, not enough to fall off, but enough to tilt the screen a bit until you push the screen back in again.Overall. I would not recommend this laptop if you are looking for the best bang for the buck. Go to MSI or Dell or something if you want that. Rather, this product is a lot like the first iPhone: Not fully refined, but you can tell there's potential. I'm very excited for the Surface Book 2 and I hope that Microsoft manages to work out its kinks tomorrow at their event.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great screen and good battery endurance This is my first Surface product - I was considering others, but I am glad that I went with the Surface Book. I am very happy with the computer's value. It is very solid and has great performance. I have not had any issues or need to reboot. It runs VS 2015 and 2017 great and the creator's update runs perfectly. I am very impressed and I recommend this laptop.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fan Of the Surface I have my favorite and most expensive book I have ever purchased. I have more than I imagined, and I have not ran into any flaws. My first i7 was a huge step up from an i3, but this new Surface is easy to take first place above the last book I had.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Wonderful machine - one gripe I've been using the surface book for a year now. I'm a university professor, and I love it. It's great for lectures, and I use it for light number crunching. The graphics card lets me play some light games as well, that's a plus.My only gripe here, is now with rumors they're not going to renew the surface book line, or at least it won't be what it is now, I want to upgrade the keyboard to the performance base, but there's no way to do it. I don't get how that's an issue. I read on a few forums people having damaged their keyboard, with no way to buy a replacement keyboard from Microsoft.I believe Microsoft should look into this. I can't recommend the surface book to anybody knowing that if after warranty the keyboard goes out, they're out of luck.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good for coding in Visual Studio and playing games I purchased this Surface Book with Performance Base to code in Visual Studio. Plus: Best laptop keyboard I have ever used and the touchscreen and pen are a lot more useful that I thought it would be. Minus: When I have it hooked up to the docking station the monitor messes up. I only have to open and then close the Surface Book to fix but a bit of an inconvenience.
