Product Reviews
Rated 4.3 out of 5 by 6reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by A great entry level unit or a great unit at any level. I have mine stacked with three SSDs to boost it just that much more. This bad boy is chucked full of drives and just keeps on going and going. I have had my unit on going on four years now and have never had any issues with it. A great buy from small to medium business. November 6, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Drobo, not a bad box if you only have one system you want to keep updated and backed up. Bad if you have a whole slew of systems, I would go with a stand alone NAS. September 13, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Deployed an HA VMware cluster on the B1200i using 2x Dell R905's and a Dell PowerConnect Gb switch. The iSCSI SAN has 3 Gbps iSCSI ports and 1 management port. The firmware allows for tiered storage to be enabled using the faster SSD's to manage the hot bits and using the traditional spindle drives to house the cold bits.Pros- Easy setup and deployment- No need to VMware Storage IO control (enterprise only)- No custom drives required- SSD Tiered Storage- Dual Disk Redundancy across entire array- Price!!!!!!!Cons- Struggles with consistent higher IOPS (> 1000)- Heavy SQL usage not recommended- Requires occasional maintenance window for firmware to defrag LUNS- Not for EnterpriseConclusionI would HIGHLY recommend any small to medium business to use the Drobo B1200i. It is a fast, reliable and most importantly affordable iSCSI SAN that can quickly deliver high availability to almost any network. June 14, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Replaced a B800i with this. Very happy! Great unit, 4 iSCSI ports + 1 dedicated management port. Very fast with the SSD tier enabled. Built very well with a lot of thought put in for the Admin (i.e. comes with a pre-install tray to make racking the unit easier)Many features the b800i doesn't have, like dual PS, removable everything, and a hero kit you can order and put on a shelf just in case. Rated 4 out of 5 by This is a great "small business" SAN. Drobo has packaged the product in such a way that most System Admins can deploy it using iSCSI within just a few hours and junior level admins can definitely deploy it as an NFS volume. It uses a tiered storage on it's SSD drives that you don't have access too and therefore are limited to how you can optimize that storage. The SAN best performs at only 500-800 IOPS consistently, but can handle occasional spikes up to 1800 IOPS, but expect some serious latency issues. Also, there are only 3,1Gb network interfaces that do not support LACP/802.3ad, so your iSCSI switch can be unmanaged.Overall the Drobo B1200i is a great "affordable" small business solution that can deliver on an High Availability environment with VMware or Hyper-V. You can deliver a small virtualized environment for well under $30k using this device. But remember too many high IO apps like SQL or Exchange could overwhelm the device. February 16, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Best value for your dollar! Drobo provides more intelligent storage for backup solutions and for most all your storage needs at a lower cost than other intelligent SAN’s. We have six of the B1200i solutions located in two states that we are using as a secondary SAN storage alongside our NetApp that can be completely managed from one single screen. It takes about 30 minutes from the time a new system is delivered to your first data transfer. October 26, 2012
