Product Overview
Main Features
  • 802.11n Router with 4-port 10/100/1000 Gigabit switch
The D-Link Xtreme N™ Gigabit Router (DIR-655) is a draft 802.11n compliant device that delivers up to 14x faster speeds* and 6x farther range* than 802.11g while staying backward compatible with 802.11g and 802.11b devices. Connect the Xtreme N Gigabit Router to a cable or DSL modem and provide high-speed Internet access to multiple computers, game consoles, and media players. Create a secure wireless network to share photos, files, music, videos, printers, and network storage.

Powered by Xtreme N™ technology and equipped with three external antennas, this router provides superior wireless coverage for larger homes and offices, or for users running bandwidth-intensive applications. The DIR-655 also includes a 4-port 10/100/1000 Gigabit switch that connects Gigabit wired devices for enjoying lag-free network gaming and faster file transfers.

With some routers, all wired and wireless traffic, including VoIP, Video Streaming, Online Gaming, and Web browsing are mixed together into a single data stream. By handling data this way, applications like video streaming could pause or delay. With D-Link’s Intelligent QoS Technology, wired and wireless traffic is analyzed and separated into multiple data streams. These streams are then categorized by sensitivity to delay, so applications like VoIP, Video Streaming, and Online Gaming are given priority over Web browsing. This enables multiple applications to stream smoothly to your TV or PC.

The Xtreme N Gigabit Router supports the latest wireless security features to help prevent unauthorized access, be it from over a wireless network or from the Internet. Support for WEP™, WPA™, and WPA2™ standards ensure that you will be able to use the best possible encryption regardless of your client devices. In addition, this Xtreme N router utilizes Dual Active Firewalls (SPI and NAT) to prevent potential attacks from across the Internet.

Delivering best-in-class performance, network security, and coverage, the Xtreme N Gigabit Router (DIR-655) is the ideal centerpiece for your wireless network in the home or office.

Create a wireless network to share high-speed Internet access with computers, game consoles, or media players from greater distances in your home or office.

Product Reviews
Rated 3.5 out of 5 by 81reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by just keeps going and going I have the original hardware revision A, and I've had it so long i forget when I bought it. I think the end of 2008. Anyway, I have this connected to a 5 port Netgear Gigabit switch, which connects to a Dell 16 port 100Mb switch and that connects to an old 3com 16 port 100Mbit switch. I have a permanent LAN party set up in my basement, and when we're having a gaming party there are easily over 2 dozen wireless and wired devices connected to the network. This thing handles it easily. I sometimes think I should replace it and get something new and shiny, but I really want to see how long it will last. April 2, 2015
Rated 1 out of 5 by Not In it for the long haul I've had this for a little over a year and its not working anymore. I think that it should have some more longevity to it but it did work good when it was working. February 18, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by We've had a few D-link devices. We had a PCI NIC - (DGE series for Vlan Tagging)Which worked a treat and we can't fault that device enough. We had one series of WAPs which were un-reliable, users often complained of drop-outs, and the devices had to be continuously rebooted which was a pain when customers required reliable wifi to perform working. For the Price, DLink is a good choice, but not in all aspects of a company environment. If i could give half stars, I would give DLink 3.5 instead of 4.DLink are good for household use I believe, it seems this is the better market for them and not corporate. But all in all, they don't make bad products. January 2, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Very Easy Maintenance and Range I have been using my DIR-655 router for 7 years now, going on strong.... Dear D-Link - I want to personally congratulate your company in making this amazing jewel of a Wireless ( Wi-Fi ) router ....Great Security settings, ounce set it's unpenetrable ! November 11, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Very Reliable We have purchased over 50 of these SOHO routers over the past couple of years and only had 1 fail. Much better than the NetGear ProSafe routers that we were previously using. D-Link replaced the unit under warranty with no questions asked. October 15, 2014
Rated 2 out of 5 by Don't last long I used to use these for a couple of small businesses that I do IT work for.In the past year I have deployed six of these routers and have had to replace four of them. One of them completely lost wireless connectivity. One of them would work for a while and then suddenly for no reason stop routing internet or giving out IPs, and the other two would last several months and then for no reason would reset themselves to factory default. When they work they are great, but they seem to have a very high rate of failure. Rated 2 out of 5 by Device is very good looking, Very compact, with a nice built in stand (When cable is attached it wobbles to much to stay standing for long) Comes with a nice travel bag. I was unable to get my device to work, And it is being returned, so i cant comment on the connectivity, But it does come with excellent instructions. And Setup is fairly easy. Not as simple as the NetGear WNCE2001 But still not too bad!. September 11, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by A super fast router which provides great performance and easy management. Feature rich and even supports IPv6. Fast and reliable. September 11, 2014
