Canon zoom lens is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 76.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Tremendous value I've had this lens for over 2 years and it's versatile, fast and my go to for both motorsports and outdoor photography. The fast, one handed zoom is smooth, allowing me to capture more action shots!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this lens! I debated purchasing the 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II, but could not justify the difference in price. If you are not shooting video, this lens is perfect! Such a creative lens. Second shot a wedding with this for the first time and the perspective was amazing! Love the sharp image quality. Have not uploaded those images to my computer yet or I would post one here!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Don't BUY it! According to Canon Professional Services. This lens is at the end of it's life and they will not have the parts to fix it. You buy it, you break it, say goodbye to it. Disappointing that they are still selling it. I LOVE this lens. GREAT lens and workhorse for me for many years. Still works flawlessly, I wouldn't buy it now since it's not repairable by Canon. Just thought fellow photographers should now. If you don't care about breakage or have a great insurance policy, go for it. Otherwise save up and move to the 70-200mm 2.8 II. If you are a CPS member this lens now provides 0 points.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Overall excellent - but bad ghosts at night Outstanding performance in well-lit situations. However not good for taking photos of the moon, sunsets with bright clouds, or night shots with bright lights. In these cases it produces a very obvious ghost image for each light source. Many of the online reviews either don't mention this ghost problem, or brush over it as inconsequential. I think it spoils night photograph in a major way. Unfortunately the ghost does not appear in the viewfinder, so one cannot compose the picture to reduce the effect. Instead one has to view the image after shooting to see how bad the ghost may be, then try another shot to move the ghost to a less critical position. Then afterwards crop the image to cut out the ghost. This is not what I expected from this lens. So I think this is a great lens, but not for high contrast situations.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Impressive! I finally got to put this lens through it's paces on a vacation in Costa Rica. The images are outstanding on my 70D. I was extremely happy with the images from EF-S 55-250 STM, but is "L" lens took my photos to another level. I never looked at a photo from corner to corner .. but wow, now I get it. The focus is instant the images are extremely sharp, bright, colorful and simply stunning. I'm becoming more in tune with my photo's and since I shoot mostly family stuff and outdoors this lens is perfect. It's larger than my other telephoto and I lose some reach, but I could not be happier. I put some raw images into lightroom for post processing .. found very little to do .. My plan is to move to full frame when Canon finally updates the 6D but for now .. this is great on the 70D. I must admit I'm truly amazed, !!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A superb lens I've used this lens since 2000, when I upgraded from FD to EOS and digital. Despite numerous other Canon lens purchases, this is still hands down the sharpest lens in my kit. As I photographed for 30 years without IS, I knew how to get sharp images without its help. 16 years later, I do not regret its absence. I shoot lots of sports, most of it in poorly lit stadiums and gyms. The autofocus is fast and decisive, even under poor lighting conditions. Of course, a lot of the credit for this goes to the camera. This lens gets my highest recommendation.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from All the 5 ratings are justified My first and only L lens, this zoom exceeds my expectations, amazingly sharp at all apertures. It fits into my smallish camera bag, and is rather light. Minor distortion at the extreme ends is easily dealt with in processing software. Unless you have an EG-D screen with lines (5D and 6D SLRs), or call up the "level" in Live View, frame a little large, so that you don't lose image area cropping after straightening your horizon.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Extremely sharp lens! Great lens. My monopod has three legs that open up for stability. The combination of the lens and monopod allows me the versatility required for close in wildlife shooting. It is a great substitute when wildlife is to close for my prime to frame.
