Product Reviews
Rated 2.6 out of 5 by 9reviewers.
Rated 3 out of 5 by Good Printer but be careful - WiFi Keeps Dropping I have owned this printer for about four weeks and when it is working it works well. Unfortunately, the WiFi connection is not very solid. It is not a router issue and it is not a signal strength issue as all other devices, including a Canon Pixima printer, which is next to the 212w are fine and have never lost the connection as long as I can remember.Periodically, I the blue WiFi light starts blinking to tell me that the IP address has changed. The printer is set up for DHCP, so I don't really care that the address has changed, and simply want the printer to reconnect without any intervention. While the blue light is blinking, the printer will not print from any of the connected computers. There may be a simple way to fix this, but I seem to need to reenter the WiFi pass code (a real pain in the neck, since I have a fairly long one for security) and then try to get it to connect again. This sometimes takes multiple times. Given that WiFi is an established communication technique, I no longer expect these types of issues.I hope that Canon finds the cause of this problem, and issues a firmware update to fix it, as I really like this printer other than this irritating issue. In the meantime, I am considering using the wired Ethernet connection and hoping that it does not have a similar issue. At least I won't need to enter the pass-phrase. November 18, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Good Value, Fast & Quiet. Despite the negative reviews on the site for this printer, it turns out it's a really nice piece of equipment. Upon receiving the new printer, I read though the instructions and followed them without problem. There are plenty of pictures for reference and initial setup was beyond easy. After initial set up, I did visit the support page for this printer and installed the following in this order, Driver, Firmware, Toolbox, Patch for network scan. I did set this up as a network printer via LAN (wired), I opted not to go wireless. After fooling around with the settings and getting familiar with everything, I am able to print from every device in my house, which consist of Windows 8.1 Tablet, two Android phones and a couple windows 10 desktops. Printing is quick and quiet, Network scans work, Fax is untested (common now it's 2016 who uses fax). If you are able to install a router, or any other network attached device you should have little to no problem setting this up. If your not sure on something (like finding the IP address for your printer) ask your favorite search engine for a quick how to. Total set up time was about an hour October 19, 2016
Rated 1 out of 5 by Canon MF212w The product will turn on only when flipped upside down. I cant believe that this product is this defective! Unfortunately, I will go back to your competitor...oh brother. September 7, 2016
Rated 1 out of 5 by Seriously? Canon... you've been doing this long enough that you shouldn't be putting out such amateurish software. The device itself is fine. The software is trash. Definitely designed and refined by engineers, not UX experts. You'd better hope that Apple doesn't decide to start building printers. September 4, 2016
Rated 1 out of 5 by Horrible There is nothing simple about trying to set up this "Multi-function" printer/scanner/copier. I'm trying to figure out how to scan to my PC, and it's a maze of links to nowhere. The support information on your site is horrible. The only application I've found that will make the scanning function work is one i would have to pay for. I would rather dump this junk and buy and HP. August 23, 2016
Rated 1 out of 5 by When it works it works well. This is a very good printer when it works. I've had it for about a year. I have it installed on my Apple Base Station Extreme. About every two weeks I have to reset connect it to my Wireless Network. I've been blaming this problem on my MacBook Pro until today. I bought a new Asus Laptop this week. it found it when I set up the laptop with no problem. Again today when I went to print from my MacBook Pro no printer. So I went to the Asus. NO PRINTER FOUND. I powered down the MF212W, powered back up after 5 minutes and reset up the printer from my MBP. Now it's working again. I will be selling this and going back to a Brother Laser printer.Just ANOTHER PIECE of GARBAGE from Canon. March 11, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent - best laser printer for the price!! Excellent - best laser printer for the price!! I highly recommend this!! February 24, 2016
Rated 1 out of 5 by Works awesome when it works This printer is prints very nice and very fast. However, I print about once every 2 weeks. Every time I try to print something I notice the blue light is flashing showing me the IP address has apparently changed. It will not print until I pull the AC plug to power it off then power it back on. Now, that is no longer working, I likely need to uninstall and reinstall the printer to my PC. February 16, 2016
