Product Reviews
Rated 3 out of 5 by 1reviewer.
Rated 3 out of 5 by It works, but is slow when used with advanced features... I purchased this scanner to use with a document management system (DMS) I'm currently implementing at work. The scanner has been pretty good so far. The small size is an advantage on a crowded desk and it folds up to take up even less space when not in use. Setting up the scanner was simple. I did not install the included software; I'm just using it as a standalone network scanner. We're using the scan to network option with our DMS and this scanner works well with that system. However, unless I'm missing something, it appears to be limited to only 10 available network folders, at least when using the scanner without being connected to a computer. It may be more flexible if you use the included software, I don't know. We use thin clients here and I'm not interested in using the software. However, I am able to work around this limitation by using the scan to email feature instead or in addition to the scan to network feature. Our DMS can capture email attachments and route them based on the email address used. The quality of the scanner has been good for us so far. However, the touchscreen is slower than I like. It works, but everything you do in it is very slow compared to other scanners we use.The scan engine is fast as long as you use it in the default configuration. However, if you turn on Document Size Auto Detect, Auto De-skew and/or Skip Blank Page, then the pauses between scanned pages in a multipage document can become close to unbearable. The pause seems even longer when you combine multiple features such as the Skip Blank Page, Deskew and Auto Size options.I'm primarily using this scanner with the scan to email and scan to network options. Both work well, but the number of steps involved to use the features seems to be more than necessary to me and because the screen responsiveness is so slow, it takes longer than it should to perform these functions. Also, the scan to network feature takes more time than it should to connect to the network folders selected... upwards of 20 - 30 seconds. I'm performing these same functions from multiple HP multi-function printers and these devices handle the same steps much more quickly than the ADS-2500W does. The HP's connect to the network folders almost instantly and they require fewer steps to start the scans. In addition, the touch screens on the HP's are fast, so they perform the work much faster and more efficiently than the ADS-2500W. The HP's scan slower than the Brother does, in its default configuration, but when configured the way we need it, the HP's actually out perform this scanner in my experience. So, I give the scanner three stars because although it works and does the job that I need it to do, it takes too long to get the work done.
