Sturdy and versatile
This is my 2nd rugged book for an iPad. I’m still using my 1st book on an older iPad and loved it. So it was only natural that I get one for my new iPad. I had some of the lighter cases but the spine kept breaking. Zagg was very good at replacing them under warranty. Zagg replaced the last one with a rugged book and now I will never use any other. It’s a little heavier but it lasts. It’s very easy to remove the tablet to use alone or reverse it for reading a book, which I prefer. No parts to break only strong magnets. Has a convenient holder for the Apple Pencil and charges it as well when in the holder. Also the lit keyboard is a must. One negative is that it doesn’t come with a charging cord for the keyboard so I had to buy another cord to charge the keyboard.

This keyboard is heavy but does protect the device. It takes a long time to charge but also holds a charge reasonably well. It is easy to detach the screen from the keyboard but difficult to get the screen into the protective frame. It has a loop for securing the stylus.

Best keyboard
I love this rugged thing! I don't feel like it is going to break if I accidently drop it or my kids get around it. It has worked flawless every time I have used it and I love the light up keyboard option. It is a little heavy, but that is what I expected because it is made very well and rugged. It also paired very easily and fit my iPad air 10.9 tablet perfect.

This is my third Rugged Book. I am disappointed this time. The keys do not type the correct characters. For example when I try to type a / it types a hyphen. And when using the shift key it does not type the corresponding character This should not happen with a $150 key board. I will try to trouble shoot but have not found much help from Zagg user manual or website. Two stars just because the cas is durable. But I bought for the key board and case.

It is very sturdy and it stays open where I want it to. It was easy to set up. It is more rugged than I needed. Keyboard works well. It was hard to get the iPad in even with directions. The day it came was really cold so I had to warm it up so not so stiff.

Professional Use Everday
We are rough on our iPads and needed a case which will stand up to our strict standards including, drop protection, keyboard functionality, button operation, and detachable. This case has so far met all of the above. I have removed one star as it seems the edge(s) upon which you grasp to open/un-fold the case are made of a softer material. With our staff using these every day and opening/closing the cases regularly, time will tell if this will become worn and/or begin to loosen or distort. We have one case which has reported to have a bit of this loose rubber type material lifted from a very small section. We swapped it to someone who may not utilize it as regularly.
Other than that, this seems to be the best of all available in the price range, while still offering the above necessary criteria.
I will say that Zagg's customer service was/is excellent! They made the purchasing process very pain-free and was welcomed. The representative even applied coupons/discount code where he could, and we were sent additional for future use. This level of service speaks volumes.

Good quality, solid build. Only suggestion would be to improve the ‘rigidity’ around where the pencil is stored as many times one tries to open the case there stretching and pulling it away from the iPad. In the interim guide customers to open from the corners which are more robust.

I’m very dissatisfied with a produce that I purchased, and need/want to return it. But no way to do so. No live help to assist with this! I will think twice before I recommend Zagg again for anything. Maybe a person from Zagg will see this and contact me, since i can’t contact them.

It is kind of flimsy. Keyboard clicks bad… worse that an old mechanical keyboard

I love this case/solution for my iPad and pencil. It’s a pretty tough product. My only issue is the Apple Pencil will charge in the case. You have to peel back the case to charge. I did find another charging method to avoid that challenge.

Not what I expected and not of prior Zagg quality
This case was bulky, heavy, and kept opening up and breaking at the hinge due to shoddy construction. This case is nothing like the rugged keyboard case that was created for iPad Pro several years ago and is not going to meet my needs. It is also about an inch thick when you manage to get the ipad into it, and looks clunky and the plastic doesn’t look well cut - it has rough, unfinished edges. I returned this item (at my own shipping expense, as Zagg’s return and replacement policies have changed since I bought a few years ago)

Keyboard was dead on arrival. Tried charging it for a day and still never turned on. Called customer service for a replacement and they said I could return it under warranty but shipping costs are on me. Why are the additional shipping costs on me after receiving a defective product? What a joke.

Good, Rugged Keyboard and Case.
I purchased my iPad Air with the Apple Magic Keyboard. That keyboard is great for stationary use of the iPad (for sheer typing, it is better than the ZAGG and comes with a trackpad. However, I did not feel at all comfortable placing the iPad in a backpack with the Magic Keyboard; it did not protect the sides and the Apple Pencil was only secured by the charging magnet (it always came off during transport). With the ZAGG, the iPad is much more protected, and it secures the pencil to the case while also charging. The iPad can remain in the case, while either removed from the keyboard or reversed for use as a tablet. The Keyboard has a USB-C charging port, so an additional cord is not necessary (if only Apple would upgrade the iPhone to an USB-C…). It also holds a very long charge. If you travel a lot or frequently move your iPad, I highly recommend this keyboard.

Always an easy transaction…only thing I would suggest is to redesign the top of the case where the apple pen would go..not all of us use the pen and without anything there it makes the top VERY flimsy, I’ a bit concerned that with opening and closing it the flimsy part will eventually wear out and not hold the ipad in that area..just my opinion as a user. To me the pen location at the top of the keyboard (like the older rugged books) was much better!

The second one I’ve purchased for my husband to use at work. He is very rough on his iPad and this protects it well. The only reason I purchased a second one is that he bought a new iPad and the old one was not compatible. They last a long time. Highly recommend!

The place for the Apple Pencil is soft rubber and gives way when trying to hold the iPad on that side. The plastic over the volume buttons are hard and not as responsive as they need to be. The keyboard is much noisier than its predecessor. Overall, the quality is good, but the previous model was better and more comfortable to use.

Great key board and protection for my iPad!
I will never use anything but Zagg to protect my iPad. Years ago, I was walking down a set of cement stairs, carrying way too much in my arms. My iPad slipped out of the pile and literally bounced down a flight of stairs! I know if it hadn’t been for it being in the Zagg case, it would have been broken. The case had a chip in one corned and the glass cover had to be replaced, but my iPad was perfectly fine. In fact, when I upgraded a month ago, I got money back on the trade in, because it was “in good condition”. My new iPad is now, of course, in a Zagg Rugged book!

Love this case/keyboard
I love this case for my iPad. Had the non rugged case with keyboard first and I kept breaking my screen protectors every time I’d close it and the keyboard would always fall off super easy if I didn’t have a table. This case is awesome though. Has raised edges to save my screen protector and I can pick the iPad up and move around by the key board because how it’s attached and yet it comes off easily if needed. And it’s just more robust for using the iPad on the go. Highly recommended

Love my ZAGG I-pad case and keyboard
I am very happy with my new rugged ZAGG I-pad case and keyboard. When I got my new I-pad earlier in 2022, I purchased a hard case and keyboard from another company. From the start I had issues charging the case. After several other issues with the case I wrote the company and they said my issues weren't covered under the 1 year warranty. Not all the keys would type and I had difficulty charging the case. I have owned ZAGG before and should have never switched brands! My ZAGG case charged without issue. It's rugged and there are no issues with typing using my keyboard. Love it! It's the best!

I have been really enjoying this case. I love the look and feel of a laptop computer with my IPAD and this case delivers. The case fits like a glove and completely protects my device. All ports are easy to access. I work in a medical clinic and often times need to have this resting on my lap but all other cases I have tried topple over or slide off my lap but NOT this one. There is a little bit of delay with getting the keyboard activated if I haven’t been using it for awhile but doesn’t bother me and it’s really only like 2-3 seconds. The backlit function is nice and not too overwhelming when you are in the dark, 3 sets with this and multiple colors. Pencil fits in quite snugly so I don’t have to worry about losing it. The keyboard is very easy to type on which is a must for me.

Solid mechanically but delay coming out of sleep mode
My old Zagg Rugged Book (4? Years old) had a buffer, so when typing and coming out of sleep, it would remember the keys you typed.
For the new one, I open it and start typing and have to wait 3+ seconds before it displays the last key I pressed. Then I have to delete, and retype.
It’s a step backwards in performance.

I had a Rugged case for my iPad Air 2 and was so happy to see that they made a new, updated Rugged case for the Air Gen 4; also compatible to the 11-inch iPad Pro. It’s durable, grippy, and I love that the iPad separates from the keyboard. Some things I don’t love; the keys on the keyboard are a bit stiff. I tend to type words that are missing letters or the space bar just doesn’t work; maybe the keyboard needs some time to be a little broken in. Another thing that kinda annoys me is the slot that holds your Apple Pen so super flimsy and if you grab from the top (or side of the case) you’ll be disconnecting and then reconnecting your pen every time. I would suggest putting in a long skinny plastic bit along the side inside the rubber to prevent movement and provide a better seal to the case around the edges overall. Other than that, this case truly is awesome! I have to dock a star for my two complaints, however, I do highly recommend this case!!!

Health warning, physical injuries
While I like the way that the Rugged Book Apple iPad functions, I was upset when I read the sticker on my Rugged Book that warned me of physical injuries and read in the Package Insert of a health warning although it did not inform me of what kind of health warning. Am I endangering my life or health by using the Rugged Book? HELP! PS The Rugged Book sits on my lap like a laptop. Is this dangerous to me?

Third Time’s A Charm
In looking for the perfect case for the way in which “I” use my iPad Air the most, twice I ordered a keyboard case from the plethora available on Amazon. And twice, I was frustratingly disappointed with what I got.
Then I recalled that my favorite keyboard/case I’d used with an older iPad I had (about six years ago) was a Zagg-brand case.
So I went to the Zagg website and there. It. Was. The PERFECT case for my wants & needs. This keyboard case not only met, but actually exceeded all of my expectations.

Noisy space bar
I had a rugged book to complete my old iPad and really liked it, especially because it made my iPad portable and good for taking minutes at meetings. I bought this new rugged book for my new iPad, but, while the keys are fairly quiet to type on, the space bar is noisy. I called customer support. The representative checked with his supervisor and I was told that’s the way it is and they didn’t offer to replace or repair it. This makes this rugged book less useful for going to meetings, because of the distraction it will cause. It also means I’ll probably have to shop around for a new keyboard. What a shame after having such a good experience with the previous keyboard.

Spectacular protection.
I bought this because of the fact that it latches in rather than a magnetic connection. This has been a great case for my ipad pro third generation. The connections in latching INR very secure where it would does not fall over. Thank you also much.
I love the fact that it has a tablet mode where you can actually flip the ipad around and secure it without any worries about damage. I like the fact that you can turn the keyboard on and off.

I use the rugged book more than my laptop at work due to the portability and convenience it provides.
Keyboard holds a good charge with minimal charging.
The keyboard keys are good for about a year with daily use in the field.
Can’t really ask for anything more the way I use it.

This is a great product! I had the previous model for my old iPad Pro and loved it so, of course, had to have it for my new one. Everything about it is a pro with the exception of the clicking noise the keys make when typing. I called and was told they made the keys more stable, however, I didn’t have a problem with the older model.
It is a product I highly recommend.

Solid mechanically but delay coming out of sleep mode
My old Zagg Rugged Book (4? Years old) had a buffer, so when typing and coming out of sleep, it would remember the keys you typed.
For the new one, I open it and start typing and have to wait 3+ seconds before it displays the last key I pressed. Then I have to delete, and retype.
It’s a step backwards in performance.

I got this because I needed something a little more sturdy than what Apple was offering. I love the light up keyboard and the fact that I can change the colors of the lights. I also really love how flexible the entire set-up is while also making it easier to type while on my lap or on the go. I love how long the battery lasts (took it out of the box about 2 weeks ago and haven’t needed to put in on the charger yet). I also really appreciate how quickly it connects to the iPad.

The rugged book makes me feel confident if I drop my iPad it’s going to be okay. Works really communication has been really good with my iPad. The only thing that would make it better is if when the iPad is attached to the keyboard if it could go all the back so you can hold it as one piece. But it separates from the keyboard which is nice.

Good quality, solid build. Only suggestion would be to improve the ‘rigidity’ around where the pencil is stored as many times one tries to open the case there stretching and pulling it away from the iPad. In the interim guide customers to open from the corners which are more robust.

Poor design
I was hoping to be able to utilize this iPad case/keyboard, unfortunately the “hinge†on the keyboard was so tight that you couldn’t “fold†the iPad down over the keyboard without the iPad popping out of the hinge. I had to force the book to close by folding the hinge itself. This became too cumbersome and had to return the item because it was defective. Sadly I had to also pay shipping cost.

Non-functioning keys
I loved the previous editions of the Rugged Book for my previous iPads but this version for my new iPad Air seems as though it was made by a different manufacturer. The materials are different and a number of keys do not work. Specifically the number “6” and the dash key. The number “5” key works intermittently. I will be returning the product.

I have been really enjoying this case. I love the look and feel of a laptop computer with my IPAD and this case delivers. The case fits like a glove and completely protects my device. All ports are easy to access. I work in a medical clinic and often times need to have this resting on my lap but all other cases I have tried topple over or slide off my lap but NOT this one. There is a little bit of delay with getting the keyboard activated if I haven’t been using it for awhile but doesn’t bother me and it’s really only like 2-3 seconds. The backlit function is nice and not too overwhelming when you are in the dark, 3 sets with this and multiple colors. Pencil fits in quite snugly so I don’t have to worry about losing it. The keyboard is very easy to type on which is a must for me.

Excellent case and keyboard
I got the Zagg Pro Keys (folding/flip out style detachable case with my iPad Air 4th generation and it didn’t cut it. It seemed flimsy for continuously opening and shutting (mobile). It was broken in 4 months of household use. I scrapped it and replaced it with the Zagg Rugged Book and have zero complaints. It stays charged, allows me to take my iPad Air 4 anywhere with confidence, and has well thought out features (volume, playlist forward/reverse) excellent backlighting, etc.). I’d recommend the Rugged Book for anyone who wants a durable keyboard/case. I love it!

I wouldn’t know if I like this product because it was shipped FedEx and I’m still waiting to receive it. It was shipped 3 weeks ago and still no sign of it. It looked like when I checked the tracking that it was being shipped by truck. Zagg must ship these very cheaply and get the cheapest way to ship their items!! I’m already very dissatisfied with this entire ordeal. I won’t be purchasing anything from Zagg again!! Ridiculously shipped!!

The Rugged Book is so heavy! It is more than 2 lbs, but it’s listed as 1.1 lbs in the product description. My previous Zagg Folio keyboard was 1.3 lbs. and this is twice as heavy. No way it’s 1.1 lbs. Even though wrong weight is Zagg’s error in their product description, Zagg refuses to give me a shipping label to exchange that. Their integrity is out. They know that I am a repeat customer (5 previous folio keyboards plus Invisishields) If you buy this Rugged Book, I hope you start weight lifting now!

Sturdy and versatile
This is my 2nd rugged book for an iPad. I’m still using my 1st book on an older iPad and loved it. So it was only natural that I get one for my new iPad. I had some of the lighter cases but the spine kept breaking. Zagg was very good at replacing them under warranty. Zagg replaced the last one with a rugged book and now I will never use any other. It’s a little heavier but it lasts. It’s very easy to remove the tablet to use alone or reverse it for reading a book, which I prefer. No parts to break only strong magnets. Has a convenient holder for the Apple Pencil and charges it as well when in the holder. Also the lit keyboard is a must. One negative is that it doesn’t come with a charging cord for the keyboard so I had to buy another cord to charge the keyboard.

I’ve worn out four of these keyboard/cases and when I tried to replace one, they sent me the wrong product. I’ve been trying to get the company to acknowledge my issue and let me return the product. This effort, despite raising it every way I could think to do so, has been a total dead end so far. Maybe this will attract their attention.

This is my 3rd Zagg product. It has met all expectations. The Bluetooth keyboard is easy to connect and the case part fits great. The only thing that was a bit surprising when compared to my other two was the weight of it. Hopefully that will be worth it if and when I drop it. Rugged book in the field
Our group of inspectors uses five of these with various tablets in a mining setting. We are purchasing a second round of the rugged books after the performance of a set used with 9.5 inch iPads. The rugged book keyboard stayed charged and is easily removed for tablet only use. Tablets were protected and when coupled with the glass screen protectors we never had any issues other than replacing the screen protector for doing its job.

Good, Rugged Keyboard and Case.
I purchased my iPad Air with the Apple Magic Keyboard. That keyboard is great for stationary use of the iPad (for sheer typing, it is better than the ZAGG and comes with a trackpad. However, I did not feel at all comfortable placing the iPad in a backpack with the Magic Keyboard; it did not protect the sides and the Apple Pencil was only secured by the charging magnet (it always came off during transport). With the ZAGG, the iPad is much more protected, and it secures the pencil to the case while also charging. The iPad can remain in the case, while either removed from the keyboard or reversed for use as a tablet. The Keyboard has a USB-C charging port, so an additional cord is not necessary (if only Apple would upgrade the iPhone to an USB-C…). It also holds a very long charge. If you travel a lot or frequently move your iPad, I highly recommend this keyboard.

It's fine. Getting used to the new "feel" of the keys.
Things I don't like are:
1. Not as responsive as older models. I.e. I have to press the space bar a few seconds apart before it will wake my iPad.
2. Key press is different and a little harder than previous models
3. Some key positions have changed.
4. Not sure if this is a keyboard or iOS issue but pressing keyboard SHIFT + Right Click on Apple Gen 2 mouse does not pass through the simultaneous shift key on apps.

Changing positions causes magnet to detach from keyboard.
Very rugged, however, magnet that functions to keep the iPad attached to the keyboard is a pain as it comes detached really easily when trying to position the screen differently. For the money it costs, I thought it would perform better. I thought I’d be quite happy with my purchase, as I’ve been very satisfied with my other Zagg purchases, but not this time.

In looking for the perfect case for the way in which “I†use my iPad Air the most, twice I ordered a keyboard case from the plethora available on Amazon. And twice, I was frustratingly disappointed with what I got.
Then I recalled that my favorite keyboard/case I’d used with an older iPad I had (about six years ago) was a Zagg-brand case.
So I went to the Zagg website and there. It. Was. The PERFECT case for my wants & needs. This keyboard case not only met, but actually exceeded all of my expectations.

This case is a bit heavy and clunky, but I take my iPad pro everywhere, and I've broken so many cases and ultimately my screen. Just got a new iPad Pro and wanted to be more successful this time. Worth every penny. Would love it if it came in more colors, but I personalized mine!

Changing positions causes magnet to detach from keyboard.
Very rugged, however, magnet that functions to keep the iPad attached to the keyboard is a pain as it comes detached really easily when trying to position the screen differently. For the money it costs, I thought it would perform better. I thought I’d be quite happy with my purchase, as I’ve been very satisfied with my other Zagg purchases, but not this time.

Lazy Camera Hole Design
This is marketed as being an iPad Air case but is really a case meant for the iPad Pro with an iPad Pro camera hole that also fits the iPad Air. Looks silly. The product page hides this fact. It would’ve been very easy to design one with the iPad Air camera in mind.

2021 Rugged Book for Ipad air gen 4
I have had 3 rugged book covers for my Ipads. I purchased a new 2021 Ipad air and needed a new Rugged book. I was not able to locate on the web site and called customer service. Customer service emailed me the information and a discount for purchase. I am impressed with this rugged book, and the more usable functions of it. Love the Rugged Book
the Rugged book was shipped and received as promised. It does not come with a charging cord as it uses the same cord that comes with the ipad.
I love the toughness of the Rugged Book. Although a little hard to get the ipad into, it is very snug, secure and protected. The keyboard works great. I like the feel of the keys and the area to rest your hands.
I highly recommend this to item.

I wouldn’t know if I like this product because it was shipped FedEx and I’m still waiting to receive it. It was shipped 3 weeks ago and still no sign of it. It looked like when I checked the tracking that it was being shipped by truck. Zagg must ship these very cheaply and get the cheapest way to ship their items!! I’m already very dissatisfied with this entire ordeal. I won’t be purchasing anything from Zagg again!! Ridiculously shipped!!

I use it in the overhead crane sector. I get to visit a lot of dirty places and it is rugged and does exactly what I want it to do.
The only thing I would maybe improve is the water resistance. I tried to wipe mine down with an extra juicy wetone and after that, the keyboard did not function properly. Ended up getting a replacement.

I had a Rugged case for my iPad Air 2 and was so happy to see that they made a new, updated Rugged case for the Air Gen 4; also compatible to the 11-inch iPad Pro. It’s durable, grippy, and I love that the iPad separates from the keyboard. Some things I don’t love; the keys on the keyboard are a bit stiff. I tend to type words that are missing letters or the space bar just doesn’t work; maybe the keyboard needs some time to be a little broken in. Another thing that kinda annoys me is the slot that holds your Apple Pen so super flimsy and if you grab from the top (or side of the case) you’ll be disconnecting and then reconnecting your pen every time. I would suggest putting in a long skinny plastic bit along the side inside the rubber to prevent movement and provide a better seal to the case around the edges overall. Other than that, this case truly is awesome! I have to dock a star for my two complaints, however, I do highly recommend this case!!!

Best Keyboard
I bought the Rugged Book Go for my iPad Pro 11" and only had it for a few months before the hinge on it broke. While I am waiting for the replacement; I ordered this Rugged Book. This is the keyboard accessory I should've bought in the first place. If you are thinking about getting this vs the Rugged Book Go ... don't hesitate; buy this. Zagg ... fix the hinge issue on the Rugged Book Pro. Its trash and I would really like my money back for that product.

I have always enjoyed previous Rugged Keyboards for my older iPads. I purchased a Rugged Keyboard for my new iPad Air 5th Gen, however, I am not as happy with the "keys" as I was with the old version. There is a lot of "clicking" when typing and if your nails are a bit long, they double up the letters you are typing (i.e. no space between next word). Also, it has place for a "stylus" on the top but when you go to open the top of the book, sometimes the part that holds the stylus comes off the iPad. I would have preferred it being a rugged book without a stylus.
I am also not liking having to "swipe" to get to desktop....prefer the on/off to get to desktop or close scrreen.

I got this because I needed something a little more sturdy than what Apple was offering. I love the light up keyboard and the fact that I can change the colors of the lights. I also really love how flexible the entire set-up is while also making it easier to type while on my lap or on the go. I love how long the battery lasts (took it out of the box about 2 weeks ago and haven’t needed to put in on the charger yet). I also really appreciate how quickly it connects to the iPad.

This is a great product! I had the previous model for my old iPad Pro and loved it so, of course, had to have it for my new one. Everything about it is a pro with the exception of the clicking noise the keys make when typing. I called and was told they made the keys more stable, however, I didn’t have a problem with the older model.

The Zagg rugged case that I go is a tank of a set up and that is exactly what I needed. I use my iPad on outdoor job sites, bounces in equipment and work trucks. When I don’t need the keyboard I just pop the tablet free and away I go.

Very Well-designed Rugged Book
Am 100% satisfied with this device. Essentially it turns my ipad into a mini laptop. Keyboard has the feel of a quality laptop. I like the way I can adjust the angle of my iPad to any angle I want. Battery has an exceedingly long life. Only “con” is that it is heavy, but I suppose that is the trade off for this case being very solid & very protective.

This rugged book is sturdy. It is little heavy but I do not mind that. My issue is the hinge. It is way to stuff. The tablet pops off the finger while adjusting it. Other than that it is a good product. I returned it for that reason.

Sloppy Keys & Poor Apple Pencil Charging
I was looking for a keyboard tablet cover combo that would allow me to type and use the table for writing. The Zagg Rugged keyboard seemed to do just that.....until. When using the keyboard I found that tying was poor. The greatest problem was the spacebar. It was just sloppy. Depressing the spacebar down on its edge did not activate the keystroke even though the key was fully depressed. This led to a massive amount of typing mistakes. When a user hears the keystroke while typing they expect the keystroke to occur.
The other thing that pushed me over the edge and prompted my return of the product was the charging of the Apple pencil. It was very problematic!!! The pencil would continuously keep removing itself from the charging state due to the material thickness of the tablet cover. The only way to catch this was when your pencil would give a low battery warning. I worked with different ways to orient the pencil but the result was always the same. Eventually the pencil would become active from the tablet and battery would drain. This was super inconvenient when carrying the tablet in a bag of case. I hope Zagg makes improvements.

This is the only keyboard case for me.
I've used Zagg keyboard cases for 10 years now. When I decided to upgrade my iPad (again), I first checked if Zagg made a Rugged Book for the model I was considering. When it wasn't available for the iPad mini 6, I ordered an iPad Air 4 (2021). The new keyboard buttons are a significant improvement and the drop protection is a must for me. I love everything about it and from past experience, I know Zagg stands behind their products and offers great customer support.

Compare to Previous Rugged Book
We owned a rugged book for a previous i-pad air which worked very well. Over time, the magnetic connection faded and the two halves would not stay connected. Probably just age and use.
It is a safe housing for an expensive electronic item. The operating keyboard is a very nice touch.

Didn’t t work out of the box
Called and needed app installed to update firmware or something. This is a work tablet and we can’t download apps. For 150 bucks this should be ready to go out of the box. Now I’m stuck with a keyboard that I can’t update until IT gets back to me on it. Not fun. Woulda went another route so I had a functional keyboard.

Best protection and keyboard for traveling
This is really heavy duty protection, and the keyboard has a great feel. I really like the way it unfolds to open and support my I-pad for typing. Detaching the keyboard is easy and great for using the camera by itself or book reading. Nice upgrade from the original Rugged Book for my 11 inch I-pad Pro.

I love this case/solution for my iPad and pencil. It’s a pretty tough product. My only issue is the Apple Pencil will charge in the case. You have to peel back the case to charge. I did find another charging method to avoid that challenge.

I got the Zagg Pro Keys (folding/flip out style detachable case with my iPad Air 4th generation and it didn’t cut it. It seemed flimsy for continuously opening and shutting (mobile). It was broken in 4 months of household use. I scrapped it and replaced it with the Zagg Rugged Book and have zero complaints. It stays charged, allows me to take my iPad Air 4 anywhere with confidence, and has well thought out features (volume, playlist forward/reverse) excellent backlighting, etc.). I’d recommend the Rugged Book for anyone who wants a durable keyboard/case. I love it!

Like good leather, my previous rugged Book (2018) grew better with age. The silicone became slightly softer and even better to grip. Charging it nightly kept its battery at optimum; it never failed. Barely works / inconsistent
I really wanted to like this device, but I have had it for a month and a half ( even got a warranty replacement) and it still barely works. Sometimes, it’ll show itself as connected to my iPad, but won’t type anything. I had this issue with two devices. It’s hard to get a hold of customer service and the online articles haven’t helped.

Good but Apparently Taking the Apple Approach
Please don't start to be like apple and provide less but yet charge more.
No simple charging cord anymore eh? It's such a cheap part... Why would you exclude it and yet put a holder in the box. Not only is the case more expensive than the last models but doesn't have a charge cord.
Stylus holder weakens the construction. If your going to include it in the construction, then include a cheap stylus to put in its place, otherwise, the shell is weak at the top.
This is coming from working with the original iPad Air cases, which were bullet proof and such a simple design, absolutely perfect.
Keyboard feels nice, and I'm extremely happy that you went back to the simple hinge design instead of the ridiculous flip style. Good idea going with type-C, to match the iPad!
I would give it a 4 with a charge cord and 5 if you include the stylus or design it without it.

Not what I expected and not of prior Zagg quality
This case was bulky, heavy, and kept opening up and breaking at the hinge due to shoddy construction. This case is nothing like the rugged keyboard case that was created for iPad Pro several years ago and is not going to meet my needs. It is also about an inch thick when you manage to get the ipad into it, and looks clunky and the plastic doesn’t look well cut - it has rough, unfinished edges. I returned this item (at my own shipping expense, as Zagg’s return and replacement policies have changed since I bought a few years ago)

I’ve worn out four of these keyboard/cases and when I tried to replace one, they sent me the wrong product. I’ve been trying to get the company to acknowledge my issue and let me return the product. This effort, despite raising it every way I could think to do so, has been a total dead end so far. Maybe this will attract their attention.

I’ve recently bought A new iPad so when I went to purchase a new Rugged Book Go, this was the only option available for the iPad that I have. I don’t like the way the keyboard attaches to the iPad case. It’s too clunky. On the “Go†version It’s a simple magnetic hinge which allows for easy removal and attachment. Also there’s no kickstand in the back on this version. I use the keyboard and iPad separately quite a bit and I like being able to stand up the iPad by itself. I’ve looked all over to see if there is something similar to the “Go“ version but there is not. I’ve resorted to caring around the keyboard from this version and just getting a regular iPad case with a kickstand. Cumbersome when transporting, but I’ll make a do.

Pleased with Case/Keyboard
I like the case and keyboard. Overall the case fits well. The instructions for inserting the iPad were a little backwards as you have to insert it the opposite corner first as there is no way to get it in the way the instructions suggest. The only problem I have with the design is that the top where the Apple Pencil holder is does not fully come over the edge of the ipad frame. So a few millimeters of the edge of the ipad are left visible on the side of the ipad were the volume buttons are located. I attached an image showing how when I press down edge it does fully cover however this is the softer side where the pencil sits on top. Aside from this the case/keyboard is very nice. The keyboard is very responsive and keys have good feedback and feel. Well built and sturdy. I just wish the case fit was more snug on the top (depending on orientation) edge of the ipad.

Same design flaw issues as previous Rugged Books
I have returned three previous ones because the hinge has a basic design flaw. It tightens up as you use it to where opening and closing repeatedly will crack the slot that holds the iPad. If you leave it open, you'll be fine, but if you are carrying it around and have to open and close repeatedly, expect it to last a year. Otherwise it does protect the iPad, but it is quite difficult to insert the Ipad and I could expect many folks will crack the screen attempting it. Finally, all previous models came with a charging case. Can't believe they skimped on a .50¢ cord and I have to alternate with other devices

Almost perfect
I’ve had Zagg rugged book cases as long as I’ve had iPads. They work - the case will protect the ipad, if it’s dropped. They keyboards are just right for my (small) hands. The only complaint with this one is that the keys make a lot of noise when I’m typing. I take notes in meetings; the keyboard noise is a distraction for others in the meeting. The older version (for the 9.7 inch iPad Air) was quieter. That’s the only flaw in this otherwise wonderful keyboard/case.

Works just as expected
I love my iPad, but don't use it nearly enough to justify buying a laptop. I bought blue tooth keyboards in the past, but they were difficult to use when in the truck, on the road, or in other non-typical locations. The rugged book was a great solution. A coworker had one and I was impressed by it. So I got one myself and am quite happy with it.

Very heavy
The Rugged Book is so heavy! It is more than 2 lbs, but it’s listed as 1.1 lbs in the product description. My previous Zagg Folio keyboard was 1.3 lbs. and this is twice as heavy. No way it’s 1.1 lbs. Even though wrong weight is Zagg’s error in their product description, Zagg refuses to give me a shipping label to exchange that. Their integrity is out. They know that I am a repeat customer (5 previous folio keyboards plus Invisishields) If you buy this Rugged Book, I hope you start weight lifting now!

Nearly Perfect, w/ caveats for Apple Pencil users
I had an (original) Apple iPad Air [1st gen] and I purchased a Rugged Book for that and LOVED it! (5*+) I still have -- and use -- both to this day. But, the iPad was getting long in the tooth, and I wanted/needed something to replace it and give me a better laptop experience, so I went with the iPad Pro 11 (2022) -- and was very pleased to see they had a Rugged Book for that, too. Even better, it had a place for the Apple Pencil, which I had also gotten.
Overall, I'm pleased with the new Rugged Book, but there are definitely several disappointments...
First, in comparing this Rugged Book to my first one, the first one actually offered more/better "border"/edge protection. The area with the charging port is more of "notch" that's cut out, leaving the edge unprotected in that area. My best guess is that it allows for better adapter connections, but the first one had a cut out for the connectors, but still allowed full coverage for the edge.
Also, the area for the power button is also "notched", leaving the edge and side fully exposed. This is a let down, as my first Rugged Book offered full/complete protection over/for the power button. Now I realize that some of the tablets this works with (e.g.- the iPad Air) have TouchID and you need to be able to access the power button to have it read your fingerprint... But the iPad Pro uses FaceID, which means now, my power button is unnecessarily exposed when it could have been fully protected.
However, my biggest disappointment is the Apple Pencil Holder. It's shaped fine, and I like/appreciate the magnetic "latch" that holds the Pencil in place... But what I DON'T like is that the Apple Pencil doesn't charge and/or "register" while in the holder...
This poses a problem if you use the Apple Pencil. (Other 3rd party "pencils" may not have these same issues.) The Pencil contains magnets that connect/hold it to the iPad and allow it to charge. The holder allows for the magnets to hold the Pencil in the holder, but does NOT allow for charging the Pencil while in the holder.
Possible "workarounds": you can find/purchase a 3rd party device for charging your Apple Pencil. (Oddly enough, Apple doesn't offer one of their own.) I have done this, and while it "works", I'm not a fan of this option. First, the Apple Pencil seems to "heat up" and is actually warm when you remove it from the 3rd party charger. Heat and electronics don't usually agree with one another. But more irritating/concerning, the Apple Pencil "loses" its connection to the iPad when you do this. This means your Pencil will no longer "talk to" or "work with" your iPad unless/until you "re-pair" it. And, because the Rugged Book Pencil Holder does NOT allow the Pencil to "connect" to the iPad (that is, "pair" or "re-pair"), that leaves you with the poor option of having to "remove" the case (at least partially) so the Pencil can "connect"/"re-pair" to the iPad.
So, because you'll have to remove the case to at least allow the Pencil to "re-pair" to the iPad, you might as well just remove the case and allow the Pencil to charge directly with the iPad (where it does NOT "heat up" AND it keeps its connection to the iPad).
Now I realize that this is an issue with using the Apple Pencil and not "directly" with the case itself... However, if you plan on getting/using an Apple Pencil (again, specifically the Apple Pencil), this will be an issue if choosing this case.
This could be mitigated if Zagg modified the case to at least allow the "pairing" of the Apple Pencil to the iPad while in the holder. Then, you could keep the case on the iPad and use a 3rd party charger for the Apple Pencil, and then "re-pair" the Pencil with the iPad when you return the Pencil to the holder after it's charged.
Alternatively, Zagg could modify the holder area to fully allow charging the Apple Pencil, which would avoid the problem of "connecting"/"re-pairing" the Pencil altogether. Given that they've seen fit to cut out portions of the case leaving the edge unprotected, it's a shame they didn't do the same thing for the Pencil Holder so the Apple Pencil could properly charge while in the holder. I understand that the holder area is a LARGE portion of that side, but they've already "hollowed out" much of that area for the holder, compromising that area of the case. I don't know how thin they would have to make that area to allow for the Pencil to charge, but I'm sure they could do so if they wanted. Or, as suggested earlier, just cut out that strip to allow the Pencil to connect/charge. They could even perhaps add some reinforcement to the edges extending across the face to improve the integrity of that area.
The final comparison is really just a "niggle" and doesn't really effect the case or my review, but it's the shape of the keys on the keyboard portion. [See the image for comparison.] The keys on my first Rugged Book (on the left) were "squarer", but the keys on this Rugged Book are noticeably rounder. It doesn't really effect their performance; it's mostly just an aesthetic that I prefer the squarer keys.
TL;DR: The Rugged Book is a very good choice for adding more robust protection and a bluetooth keyboard for your iPad. If you have an iPad that uses FaceID, the power button is sadly unprotected. If you have/use an Apple Pencil, you will be disappointed with the holder as it prevents the Pencil from charging/connecting to your iPad. If you use a 3rd party pencil/equivalent, this may not be an issue for you. Otherwise, I am pleased with this Rugged Book and rest easier when my iPad is in it.

Barely works / inconsistent
I really wanted to like this device, but I have had it for a month and a half ( even got a warranty replacement) and it still barely works. Sometimes, it’ll show itself as connected to my iPad, but won’t type anything. I had this issue with two devices. It’s hard to get a hold of customer service and the online articles haven’t helped.

Didn’t t work out of the box
Called and needed app installed to update firmware or something. This is a work tablet and we can’t download apps. For 150 bucks this should be ready to go out of the box. Now I’m stuck with a keyboard that I can’t update until IT gets back to me on it. Not fun. Woulda went another route so I had a functional keyboard.

Love this case/keyboard
I love this case for my iPad. Had the non rugged case with keyboard first and I kept breaking my screen protectors every time I’d close it and the keyboard would always fall off super easy if I didn’t have a table. This case is awesome though. Has raised edges to save my screen protector and I can pick the iPad up and move around by the key board because how it’s attached and yet it comes off easily if needed. And it’s just more robust for using the iPad on the go. Highly recommended

Great key board and protection for my iPad!
I will never use anything but Zagg to protect my iPad. Years ago, I was walking down a set of cement stairs, carrying way too much in my arms. My iPad slipped out of the pile and literally bounced down a flight of stairs! I know if it hadn’t been for it being in the Zagg case, it would have been broken. The case had a chip in one corned and the glass cover had to be replaced, but my iPad was perfectly fine. In fact, when I upgraded a month ago, I got money back on the trade in, because it was “in good conditionâ€. My new iPad is now, of course, in a Zagg Rugged book!

The Only Case You’ll Ever Need- No REALLY
I had to get a new iPad, mine was obsolete. I had a Belkin keypad case on my old iPad Air. So, I looked for a new Belkin keyboard case, only to find Belkin isn’t making them anymore, for which I am sooo happy. If they had I never would have found my Zagg Rugged Book. It took we 3 weeks of researching and watching reviews to find the Zagg Rugged Book. I can see why Belkin is no longer making the keyboard cases. They couldn’t keep up to the quality of Zagg’s products. Now, that I’ve used my Zagg keyboard case, I wonder why did I ever accepted the inferior Belkin keypad case? The Zagg case material is very sturdy, it’s solid. I love the rubbery material around the edges of the keyboard and the screen, this will protect me from bumps and bangs. The magnet attaching the screen to the keyboard is very strong. I was really concerned it wouldn’t hold. I can hold on tp the screen and shake it and it doesn’t come off. I LOVE my Zagg Rugged Book. I finally found the only case I’ll ever need. Thank you Zagg.

Very Well-designed Rugged Book
Am 100% satisfied with this device. Essentially it turns my ipad into a mini laptop. Keyboard has the feel of a quality laptop. I like the way I can adjust the angle of my iPad to any angle I want. Battery has an exceedingly long life. Only “con†is that it is heavy, but I suppose that is the trade off for this case being very solid & very protective.

Non-functioning keys
I loved the previous editions of the Rugged Book for my previous iPads but this version for my new iPad Air seems as though it was made by a different manufacturer. The materials are different and a number of keys do not work. Specifically the number “6†and the dash key. The number “5†key works intermittently. I will be returning the product.

After a little bit of trial and error with other Zagg cases I finally found this case. This case is really a great, rugged case. I really like also that you can detach the IPAD from the keyboard to make it more lightweight and portable. Pairing the case with a screen protector is really good. I also really like how the battery percentage shows on the iPad so its not a guess.

Always an easy transaction…only thing I would suggest is to redesign the top of the case where the apple pen would go..not all of us use the pen and without anything there it makes the top VERY flimsy, I’ a bit concerned that with opening and closing it the flimsy part will eventually wear out and not hold the ipad in that area..just my opinion as a user. To me the pen location at the top of the keyboard (like the older rugged books) was much better!

The Zagg rugged case that I go is a tank of a set up and that is exactly what I needed. I use my iPad on outdoor job sites, bounces in equipment and work trucks. When I don’t need the keyboard I just pop the tablet free and away I go.

Amazing product
The rugged book makes me feel confident if I drop my iPad it’s going to be okay. Works really communication has been really good with my iPad. The only thing that would make it better is if when the iPad is attached to the keyboard if it could go all the back so you can hold it as one piece. But it separates from the keyboard which is nice.

Keyboard holds a good charge with minimal charging.
The keyboard keys are good for about a year with daily use in the field.

Speaker holes are on top not on the sides muffling the sound. Customer service is difficult to reach & when I did Evan, customer service rep, insisted it did fit & refused to send a return slip & also asked of a picture of my iPad to prove it was an iPad 2021 3rd generation. However I finally got a customer service rep who sent one. She was great.

Poor design
I was hoping to be able to utilize this iPad case/keyboard, unfortunately the “hinge” on the keyboard was so tight that you couldn’t “fold” the iPad down over the keyboard without the iPad popping out of the hinge. I had to force the book to close by folding the hinge itself. This became too cumbersome and had to return the item because it was defective. Sadly I had to also pay shipping cost.

The Only Case You’ll Ever Need- No REALLY
I had to get a new iPad, mine was obsolete. I had a Belkin keypad case on my old iPad Air. So, I looked for a new Belkin keyboard case, only to find Belkin isn’t making them anymore, for which I am sooo happy. If they had I never would have found my Zagg Rugged Book. It took we 3 weeks of researching and watching reviews to find the Zagg Rugged Book. I can see why Belkin is no longer making the keyboard cases. They couldn’t keep up to the quality of Zagg’s products. Now, that I’ve used my Zagg keyboard case, I wonder why did I ever accepted the inferior Belkin keypad case? The Zagg case material is very sturdy, it’s solid. I love the rubbery material around the edges of the keyboard and the screen, this will protect me from bumps and bangs. The magnet attaching the screen to the keyboard is very strong. I was really concerned it wouldn’t hold. I can hold on tp the screen and shake it and it doesn’t come off. I LOVE my Zagg Rugged Book. I finally found the only case I’ll ever need. Thank you Zagg.

everything i was looking for! Use it for construction it’s rugged and responsive i enjoy you can take it apart and flip it over so you can use to take notes when your on a job.. Highly recommend

Rugged Book
I bought the Rugged Keypad instead of the Apple keypad because I thought that the Rugged would be sturdier for work, and half the price. The keypad is not very accurate unless I type very slow and very deliberate. Otherwise I am having to constantly correct it. Periods where I do not need them and no spacing between words to name a couple. But for what I use it for it is OK.

All the numbers stop working.
All the numbers stop working. I do not have the box and they would not take the return not even to look at it. Useless to me. Very disappointed. Plus extremely heavy Wasn’t expecting it to be that heavy. Always have had Zagg. Never had one so thick and heavy

Lazy Camera Hole Design
This is marketed as being an iPad Air case but is really a case meant for the iPad Pro with an iPad Pro camera hole that also fits the iPad Air. Looks silly. The product page hides this fact. It would’ve been very easy to design one with the iPad Air camera in mind.

Great but missing trackpad
The best iPad case for field and construction / architecture / engineering work! BUT it is missing a track pad which is fundamental. Would love a version with the trackpad or hand mouse option so I don’t have to touch the screen.

I replaced with the same after 10 years. The original Rugged IPAD cover would have still worked…if I would not have spilled coffee on the keyboard!

The cover for the rugged
The cover for the rugged book does not close smoothly. It separates on closing and the track that holds the iPad does not close easily. I need to force it closed to get them attached together. This is my 5th zagg cover and disappointed with this product.

Not as good as the Rugged Book Go
I’ve recently bought A new iPad so when I went to purchase a new Rugged Book Go, this was the only option available for the iPad that I have. I don’t like the way the keyboard attaches to the iPad case. It’s too clunky. On the “Go” version It’s a simple magnetic hinge which allows for easy removal and attachment. Also there’s no kickstand in the back on this version. I use the keyboard and iPad separately quite a bit and I like being able to stand up the iPad by itself. I’ve looked all over to see if there is something similar to the “Go“ version but there is not. I’ve resorted to caring around the keyboard from this version and just getting a regular iPad case with a kickstand. Cumbersome when transporting, but I’ll make a do.

This is my second Zagg iPad Rugged Book purchase. For reference, the first one was going strong; however that 6 year old iPad of mine; it had become more of a relic & doorstop.
My company got me a new IPad (different size of course), but I could not imagine me not having another Zagg. My new Zagg Rugged Book is even better. Super versatile; impenetrable protection; “forever†battery life … Kudos Zagg!

Same design flaw issues as previous Rugged Books
I have returned three previous ones because the hinge has a basic design flaw. It tightens up as you use it to where opening and closing repeatedly will crack the slot that holds the iPad. If you leave it open, you'll be fine, but if you are carrying it around and have to open and close repeatedly, expect it to last a year. Otherwise it does protect the iPad, but it is quite difficult to insert the Ipad and I could expect many folks will crack the screen attempting it. Finally, all previous models came with a charging case. Can't believe they skimped on a .50¢ cord and I have to alternate with other devices

Live help for returns
I’m very dissatisfied with a produce that I purchased, and need/want to return it. But no way to do so. No live help to assist with this! I will think twice before I recommend Zagg again for anything. Maybe a person from Zagg will see this and contact me, since i can’t contact them.

Broke almost instantly
There are two little panels at the top of the keyboard that cover up some screws. One of these broke off the second day I had it, and the company wants to charge me $9.99 in shipping to replace it.
