Tripp Lite SU5000RT4UHV 5000VA / 5kVA / 4500 watt on-line, double-conversion UPS system offers complete power protection for critical server, network and telecommunications equipment in a single 4U rack/tower compatible housing. Full-time active power conditioning provides clean, continuous dual-conversion AC output free of voltage fluctuations, power interruptions and line noise. Fault-tolerant auto-bypass prevents unexpected service interruptions during UPS overload or internal fault conditions. Single all-in-one rack / tower housing installs in only 4 rack spaces (4U) with a maximum installed depth of only 20.7 in. / 52.6 cm. Maintains full-time sine wave output within 2% of selectable 200/208/220/230/240V nominal during brownouts as low 100V and overvoltages as high as 300V. Expandable runtime is supported with optional BP192V12-3U external battery packs.
Battery independent restart ensures automatic UPS power-up without user interaction after lengthy power outages, even when batteries are expired and require replacement. Double-conversion operation converts raw input from AC to DC, then resynthesizes output power back to perfect sine wave AC with enhanced protection from harmonic distortion, fast electrical impulses and other hard-to-solve power problems not addressed by other UPS types. Highly efficient operation in optional economy mode significantly reduces BTU heat output and operating energy costs. Network-grade AC surge and noise suppression. Supports detailed monitoring of equipment load levels, self-test data and utility power conditions via built-in RS-232 and USB interfaces. Optional SNMP/Web and contact-closure communications card accessories available. HID-compliant USB interface enables integration with built-in power management and auto shutdown features of Windows and Mac OS X. Included PowerAlert monitoring software offers detailed site power and UPS updates with support for safe auto-shutdown of connected systems as UPS batteries become depleted. Included software packages include PowerAlert Local, PowerAlert Network Shutdown Agent and PowerAlert Network Management System for complete support for a wide variety of application types. Supports Emergency Power Off (EPO) via built-in interface. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Battery Replacement is a Nightmare As part of a UPS battery replacement project that I am doing for my employer, I replaced the batteries in seven of these particular UPS units over the past few months. There were three consistent problems that I saw: 1. The screws that hold the front plate and the battery bracket in place are very soft and strip way too easily. Some of the screws on our units were so stripped that I had to drill them out with a drill bit in order to remove them. This is unacceptable, given the low cost of quality screws. 2. The bottom front edge of the case has a raised lip that is fairly sharp. It is very easy for cables to rub on this lip, especially during battery removal and insertion, potentially causing damage to the cables. I saw evidence of this kind of damage on at least one of our units. 3. Lastly, and most serious, on more than half of the devices that I serviced, the old batteries were so stuck inside the case that it required significant time and force to remove them. This is absolutely unacceptable, especially on units with purportedly hot-swappable batteries. The center battery pack comes with a very flimsy paper tab that is supposed to aid in removal, but this tab tore completely almost immediately on most of my units. After that tab is gone, how exactly are the old batteries supposed to be safely removed? As far as I could tell, the manual doesn't even cover this situation. Because of these issues, I cannot recommend this unit and will make sure that my company doesn't purchase any more for future needs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fire hazard We have a small datacenter as part of a corporate satellite environment and spec'd one of these units for our initial assimilation because it was a cheaper option than the usual alternatives. We have experienced 4 subsequent failures - all prefixed with a loud internal explosion, followed by a brief electrical fire and worse, no failover to bypass mode to source power from the building directly. While support has been adequate with Tripp Lite promptly sending out 4 new units after each failure, they have not identified what the crux of the issue is despite us urging them to do so. Clearly there is an internal component that is incapable of handling the load, which has never exceeded 33%. After requesting that the local utility power company perform a site survey by datalogging the power conditioning as well as a detailed analysis of the components in circuit, we even installed a 50KV surge protector in front of the panel feeding our computer room. The average life span of Tripp Lite SU5000RT4UHV model UPS is ~120 days based on the 4 failures we've experienced. The time and effort to replace a large power system of this type is substantial. Furthermore, an electrical fire and failure mode that results in explosive debris and inability to switch to bypass mode upon failing have caused us to supplant the system with a high capacity unit from the alternative brand at this point.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Rock solid design and manufacturing. This UPS was installed rather easily. The device powered up and started doing it job as designed. UPS was expertly packaged for any delivery method. zero damage to product.
