Protect your modem from digital overcurrent

With more than half of all notebook users traveling on a regular basis and connecting off-site, it is essential that every connection is a safe one. Modems are designed to connect via analog phone lines. A common problem among analog phone lines is a condition called reversed polarity. Another problem for traveling notebook users is that most businesses and hotels utilize digital phone systems that carry additional current that will damage your modem’s circuitry. In fact, digital phone lines can supply in excess of 500mA of current, which is enough to destroy a modem.

The Targus Modem Shield is a pocket-sized device that prevents costly modem damage by testing the line before you plug in your modem. Simply connect the Targus Modem Shield to the intended phone jack and check the "traffic light" indicator green for "go" or red for "stop" to tell if a safe connection can be made. The Targus Modem Shield will block digital overcurrent from destroying your PC card modem. When connected it will also automatically configure a line for proper polarity.
