Symantec™ Gateway Security 1600 Series provides reliable, affordable, multi-function network security in a single, centrally managed appliance from Symantec, the leader in Internet security. The solution offers robust, unified threat management for single and ROBO (Remote Office/Branch Office) sites. Each model requires a license activation pack that includes unlimited users. The model 1620 is recommended for up to 100 users and the model 1660 is recommended for up to 200 users.
The appliance seamlessly combines multiple on-box security technologies, including: gateway antivirus, antispam technology featuring black lists and heuristic-based blocking, intrusion detection, and intrusion prevention; URL-based content filtering (with Dynamic Document Review scanning of content from any site);antiadware/antispyware, and a full-inspection firewall that offers application-level protection. Robust VPN technology includes both IPsec (supporting gateway-to-gateway and client-to-gateway tunnels), and clientless, SSL-based tunnels that eliminate the need for IPsec client software installation and configuration. By offering multiple detection technologies – including protocol anomaly detection and vulnerability attack interception to accurately identify and block both known and unknown (zero-day) attacks and worms – the appliance enables proactive protection of business-critical networks.
To ensure Internet availability for enterprise resources, partners, and customers, connectivity is maintained by support for hardware active/standby redundancy and ISP link protection with automatic failover/failback and bandwidth aggregation.
Comprehensive management of most Symantec Gateway Security appliances enables scalable security policy configuration and event/alert management. Appliance installation is simplified with a System Setup Wizard that establishes connectivity to low-cost Internet services and provides a default security configuration. In addition, the appliance enables simple local or remote management via the LAN or WAN connections and is supported by automatic and timely updates to virus definitions, IDS signatures, URL lists, and software patches through LiveUpdate™, which allows easier management of thousands of remote site deployments.
