The full-frame 90mm medium telephoto macro E-mount lens features built in image stabilization for sharp, clear images at up to 1:1 magnification, even when shooting handheld. Advanced optics and coatings with a 9-blade circular aperture deliver exceptionally smooth bokeh that G Lenses are renowned for. Sharp in-focus rendering is achieved with a floating focus mechanism that suppresses aberration equally at all focusing distances, whether the subject is far away or extremely close. Other advanced technologies, such as the Nano AR Coating and Super ED (extra-low dispersion) glass, elevate overall performance to an extremely high standard.

Great optics, superb design
I love this lens! It’s brilliantly designed, with a sleeve on the lens body that slides fractionally back for manual, forward for auto focus. It’s so easy to use and the optics are awesome for macro work. Great for landscapes too! Highly recommend.

As sharp as a tack
I bought this lens at the beginning of the summer with close-ups of plants and use on my copy stand. ninety milometers is a little long for the close up stand but this lens is pin-sharp and proved excellent for flowers and portraiture both formal and informal. It is a joy to use.

Tack sharp and lovely to use
A very sharp lens with beautiful bokeh, a pleasing colour rendition and no significant aberrations - outstanding optical performance.
The 90mm focal length allows for a decent stand off from a macro subject of around 30cm (close to the minimum focusing distance) to allow for any lighting solutions you might want and causes little disturbance to active subjects. A very nice focal length for general photography too and could easily substitute for my 70-200 in many circumstances. On my A6700, the focal length is effectively 135mm, which was a prime I liked very much in my film days.
The sliding focusing ring is very clever and works well to switch between AF and MF in a natural way while shooting. AF is fast and quiet and on the A6700, very accurate with spot focus. MF can be a bit touchy for macro but camera movement or a focusing rack is generally easier anyway. The built-in stabilisation is very effective, allowing me to hand-hold when previously I would have needed a support.
The lens is not small but handles very nicely and its performance is such that the compromise with portability is easy to make. Well made and marked, this is an obvious choice for anyone interested in great quality macro work.

Lens broke after 4 months.
The mount part of the lens came off after very little use and camera in proper bag.
Sony agreed to give an exchange lens for three hundred some dollars. However, I feel that is not my fault that the lens broke.

FE 90mm F2.8 Macro G OSS lens is great
Apart from being good optically there is also image stabilisation.
I also like the Focus button (G) that I have as a focus magnifier.
Another neat feature is the ability to easily change from autofocus to manual via the lens ring switch without taking your eye off the shot.
A great lens to have for macro nature shots.

Love this lens!
Relatively new to photography and currently using the a6000 as my start-up camera. This macro G lens was a highly-recommended lens from the LondonCameraExchange guys in Nottingham when I was contemplating whether to go down the telephoto or macro photography route. Have to say, the versality of this lens was exactly what was showcased to me - amazing for macro photography, impressive too for portraits yet somewhat still surprisingly good to use for long-range landscape shots as well.
Was thinking of trying out the ‘cheaper’ 2 macro lenses simply for price-sake but really glad I opted for this in the end.

Optically good but autofocus hunts ++
Sharp and can get better depth of field than I had expected but have only been able to use manual focus as in autofocus mode it hunts and is unusable even when it has a huge target to focus on. Will only be used for macro and not used as portrait prime lens due to focus issues (the other Sony lenses I have snap to focus, so the difference is shocking - it performs worse than my Canon lens with an adapter) - the next question in the review is "would I recommend this product" - well the answer is "it depends" - if you would be happy with a manual focus lens then "yes"

Super sharpness
Put my Tamron 90mm f/2.8 macro lens, plus a couple of Canon items, in PX for this lens. The Tamron was very good but this is even better IMHO.
Sharpnes is very good even wide open and improves on stopping down.
Well made and with nice features e.g. push/pull collar for AF/MF switching and a focus lock button.
Also usable as a portrait or general purpose lens its only downside is slightly slower AF than say the 24-105mm G

Great image quality
Great image quality and build. However, severe focus breathing and hunting when light is not the best. F/2.8 is of little value when you cannot obtain sharp focus when subject is not fully illuminated. It is a good value for the money when used within its limitations.

My First impression, feel, and workmanship
How you perceive this lens is very subjective and probably also very dependent on what else you are used to with lenses. Compared to my previous (purely manual) macro lens with a focal length of 100 mm and F2.8, the Sony is more compact, lighter, and much more elegant in terms of the materials used. In terms of processing, it fits seamlessly into the Sony Zeiss series, of which I already use the SEL55F18z and SEL2470z
The design is harmonious, modern, and somewhat playful. It also looks very interesting due to its numerous controls. It is completely encased in aluminium, the surface finish is matt and the feel is extremely pleasant. The only downer is the filter thread, which, in contrast to the Sony Zeiss lenses, is unfortunately not made of metal but of plastic. The lens hood can't keep up with the otherwise flawless and high-quality overall appearance either, because it has a simple design and is only made of plastic.
I use the lens on an Alpha 7M4 and I find it to be quite harmonious in terms of ergonomics and weight distribution. It is less top-heavy than my previous macro and also a bit shorter and lighter. there is no need to worry about the camera bayonet, it is so robust that it can also withstand significantly heavier lenses on a tripod without damage.
Some caution is required with the A7 of the first generation. In my case, even the lighter SEL2470z was enough to wear out the bayonet of my first A7.
The SEL90M28G is an excellent macro and portrait lens. Provided you get a flawless copy.
Scope of delivery and packaging In addition to the SEL90M28G, the Sony-typical, orange cardboard packaging contains a lens hood, a front and rear cover cap, a synthetic leather pouch, and a folded manual.
To optimize autofocus speed, the lens features a three-position focus travel limit switch. The close-up limit is 28 cm (front lens to sensor level). An optical image stabilizer (can be deactivated) is also on board. The focus hold button, which is already familiar with the SEL70200G, is also not missing.
I like the SEL90M28G fixed focal length calculated for the full format with 90 mm (or 135 mm on APS-C cameras) and light intensity of f/2.8 which achieves an image scale of 1:1 in macro mode.
Thanks to internal focusing, the lenses do not rotate and the overall length does not change. Focusing is either automatic using two ultrasonic motors or manual. Unfortunately, manual focusing is only indirect, which is a bit unusual compared to purely manual and mechanically focusable lenses.
The switch between automatic and manual focus is as original as it is practical. The adjustment ring is simply pulled backward and manual focusing can begin. If you push it forward again, you activate the autofocus again.
To optimize autofocus speed, the lens features a three-position focus travel limit switch. The close-up limit is 28 cm (front lens to sensor level). An optical image stabilizer (which can be deactivated) is also on board. The focus hold button, which is already familiar with the SEL70200G, is also not missing.
Incidentally, the G logo stands for "gold" and only adorns the highest quality Sony lenses (parallel to the Sony Zeiss lenses).
The imaging performance of the SEL90M28G even tops that of my other lenses a bit. The sharpness is excellent even with the aperture wide open, and the 42-megapixel sensor of the A7M4 is really being used to the full. The edge drop when the aperture is open is surprisingly low, slightly stopped down the level of resolution is breathtaking across the entire image right into the corners.
The speed of the AF seems to be subject to a greater series spread. A MOST HAVE LEN….

Love It!
I've used the Nikon 200mm f2.8 before. A Macro was a must as I stepped off into the Sony system. It focuses quickly with a hint of searching if the contrast isn't there. So far, I'm enjoying it to the max!!! It inspired me to shoot some of the flowers that I bought for my wife. The early end result was a very nice Mother's Day wish for her. I love having this capability and a mid-level zoom! Recommend that one adds it to their arsenal!

Great Lens
I purchased this lens about a month ago and have used it mainly for close up flower portraits. Superb handling, I love the AF/manual Focus clutch ring and the Focus Range switch. Build quality is superb and the whole lens has a great feel to it. At close focusing distances the sharpest apertures appear to be around f9/f13 which is fine and what you would expect. However I have found it difficult to achieve spot-on sharpness when using apertures of f18 and above at close focusing distances. Overall though a great lens.

I have several lenses, both Sony and non-Sony, primes and zooms, all of them pretty good, but this lens is in a class of its own. Good lens
Limited experience of this lens since buying it, but I could tell from the first few shots that it is very good. This came as a pleasant surprise as my previous experience of Sony's own lenses had not been good.
I bought this lens to go with my A7lll and Zeiss 24-70 f4 combination. Whilst happy with the 24-70, I needed a little more length, and a closer focus facility. The 90mm 2.8 G would seem to offer both in one package. The only doubt being, as it is designated a "macro" lens, was it capable of delivering the goods at distance as well?
The answer to that is, yes!
It most definitely is capable of turning in very sharp pictures at both close and distance focus. At 5.6 it is surprisingly good edge to edge, corner to corner. I have yet to try it at 8.
AF is good and accurate, reasonably "snappy" OSS works well.
I suspect this lens will be getting a lot of use.
Anyone looking for a quality short telephoto with close focus facility for the A7 range at a reasonable price would do well to look at this lens.
I have tried to find a shortcoming to rate this lens at 4* but I can't, so, a 5* it is!

Amazing close-ups
I purchased this lens about a month ago and I have been very impressed with the clarity and bokeh when shooting close-ups. Very easy to lock focus compared to other macro lenses and is sharp from the center to the edges of the focal plane. Although it also functions as a very sharp portrait lens, the bokeh when capturing portraits is not nearly as smooth as it is for close-ups. The further you get from your subject the more "swirly" the out of focus area gets. Nevertheless, it functions amazingly for its intended purpose as a macro lens. There is virtually no distortion, color fringing or chromatic aberration. It is an excellent product.

the best macro lens i tried
even, the best proxy lens i ever tried ! i even been able to film a wasp making his clean-up in a such picture quality, colors et details ! i wouldn't had success this with another device ^^
i like especially the large ring that you can "pull" in a way to "MF" on your own way and "pull" again, AF is back, you have nothing else to do, this lens then is very reactiv et versatyl, you can also make some scene in a certain order of the things, it's really one of my favourite lens, thanks guyz to built it !!! :D

Superior lens to most i have owned
I would love to do an extended review of the lens, but this is a Covid-19 lockdown version.
I love it, that would in itself be a fine testament, I have never done much in the way of macro but aim to do more as the results are so much better than with other macro lenses I have had.
It's also an outstanding lens for portraits if anything it's too sharp I would have no hesitation to recommend the FE90 macro to anyone.

Best 90mm Macro for any Sony Mirrorless camera.
I had one I purchased a long time ago when I first bought a Sony E mount camera and it started to developed dust inside. Had the pro support and sent it in for repair, but could not fix it in a timely manner. So I was offered a new one for $700 and took it.

Very sharp macro prime lens
Have not had this lens very long but it is already a favourite lens for my A7R mk1. It is very sharp and it is great to use a prime lens once again after so many zooms which just make me a lazy photographer. Not over keen on the auto focus as it tends to take too long to hunt the best focus - however the manual focus is excellent and is very easy and quick to use especially for macro work. Not as light as I would like but it does produce excellent results. Rather expensive but worth it.

wonderful lens
There is a lot of hype about this lens, and it really is as good as the hype. I am really happy with it, the one thing which I had read about which could be a criticism if you were not aware of it is the the autofcous can be quite slow. But better to use manual focus and move yourself. When you get the focus right the end result is amazing - the bokeh is so beautiful too. It is expensive, but I managed to get a cachback deal on a reasonable price (worth hunting around) so ended up reasonable price in my opinion, especially for the quality- I just hope it lasts! :-)

Top Class Lens
This lens is so right on so many levels. It produces great images, it is compact for a full frame lens, it is optically stabilised, it has a great way of moving from autofocus to manual focus and it has focus limiter switches. I have used several other macro lenses (Sigma and Tamron included) and, although they were very good, they did not match the class of this lens. (Note - I use this FE lens on E mount (C sensor) Sony cameras.

The Sharpness is Amazing
I have several lenses, both Sony and non-Sony, primes and zooms, all of them pretty good, but this lens is in a class of its own. I read all the glowing reviews before I bought it and I now understand why almost all the reviews were so positive and full of praise. The lens is so good I use it, of course for macro, but for everything where a range of 90mm is suitable.

Sharp ... but
I have only had this a week but my experience so far is as follows :-
It is no doubt very sharp but as you would expect with macro photography, you need to stop down to say f8 upwards to get a reasonable depth of field. I am not that impressed with auto focus, even with the distance limiter it hunts a fair bit and is much noisier than my 24-105 lens. Also for me the lens ring which you push/pull to change between the 2 is right where I normally hold a lens so I keep inadvertently changing the focus mode. I should be able to adjust my hold with practise to overcome this. Overall it doesn't significantly improve on images taken with my 24-105mm with a screw in magnifier . This is quite an old lens and would probably benefit from an update as the 70-200 has just had.

Finally found a good example
In 2019, I bought two of these brand new which ended up being returned and eventually refunded when the dealer (and Sony) could not find one which was sharp across the entire width of the shot at portrait to landscape distances, even stopped down to f/8. In 2024 I decided to try again with a used lens being offered at a very good price by a main dealer; on testing, it proved to be perfect. And made in 2019! I'm an experienced lens tester and photo magazine technical editor since the mid-1970s so I know my stuff on this. I had been using the Sony SAL A-mount 100mm instead because I found that perfect though not as advanced an optical design. Replaced!

Excellent quality
Very expensive ! but this is a great lens with a wide aperture (but for macro work, you'd better not use f2.8 since it gives no depth of field whatsoever). I use this on an A6000 body - which it dwarfs - this is physically a fairly large and heavy lens. But it gives excellent edge-to-edge quality and great contrast. On the A6000 it occasionally hunts and cannot find focus - then you have to start again, but this apart, it focusses quickly and surely. There are 3 focus ranges: Full; 0.5m-infinity and 0.28m-0.5m. For photographing butterflies, I generally operate in a range 0.28m - 1.0m so because this falls across two ranges, I often end up shooting on "Full" so I lose some focus speed.

Mostly good
Bought this to replace a Minolta 100mm macro and lea4 combination on an A7 and A7Rm3.
Pros:
Improved efficiency by tighter system integration.
Auto zoom on manual focus seems like a small thing but for product photography its a significant time saver.
Fall of towards edges has improved.
Lens ‘zooming’ at different focus points is gone.
Cons:
The lea4 and minolta lens combination has better balance on the tripod, the sony macro could benefit from a built in tripod mount ring. Now probably need to buy an L plate especialy for the overly thin base on the A7.
I expected a huge jump in sharpness over the minolta macro, this is not noticeable at the f stops im typically using (f8 to f11) for shooting flat artwork. The minolta 100mm is still an amazing lens.
Light transmission variation at different focus points is still an issue.
I prefer the precision of the manual focus method in the Minolta lens. The electronicaly controlled manual focus is less precise and takes longer to achieve optimal focus.

It was a gift from my husband, I love the picks and quality, but since I am petite the lent is really heavy and I cant hold for so long the camera hanging on my nec, It will be great if Sony could minimize the weight of the Lents without lose quality, another point is, traveling abroad and with all the restrictions it is hard to carry on board without pay extra because of the size and weight of personal item.

Very good macro lens, Bokeh could be better.
The Sony 90mm Macro lens is extremely sharp with minimal distortion. The build in OSS works well. The camera body is constructed of mostly metal, including the focusing ring. The push/pull AF/MF switch is convenient to use.
This macro uses an electronic focus-by-wire system but with a well implimented physical distance indicator on the lens for those who need it.
The focusing speed is average, not too fast but not too slow either. It uses a silent wave motor so focusing is very quiet.
One thing I wish the lens would have is some more grip texture, as the lens is constructed of the smooth metal surface it gets slippery when your hand gets sweaty.

Not well built
Dropped A7 camera with 90mm lens attached from thigh height, about 2.5' (76cm), and the lens snapped off the body. Four plastic parts are all that was holding this heavy glass to the lens mount of the lens. For the price, I'd expect better construction.

Not sure
I bought this earlier this year thinking it would be so much better than my extension tubes, but I seem to get better results with the tubes…… maybe I just need to persevere. There is also a little bit of movement where it connects to the camera which possibly doesn’t help with getting sharp focus. I will take it back to LCE to check.

Best macro lens ever I own !
The lens is beautiful. If your passion is macro photography this lens your needs. The G line lens of sony is really a top quality lens. From the construction and design, this lens high quality. Made of metal .The focus ring that could be retracted in & out for manual focus is a cleaver design. When doing macro photography and if you don't want to be too close to the subject like butterflies and bees, you can switch your A7 series camera to APC-s capture ON to give you a 135mm focal length and this will give you a minimum focus distance of about 17-18 inches instead of 11 inches. The lens has OSS and moisture resistance. Is not too big (for me)w hen connected to camera body but feels very stable when handling and pricy compare to canon , nikon and fuji .

My Favorite So Far
I bought this after checking out the DxOMark rating the 90mm F2.8 Macro as the sharpest lens for the Sony E mount full frame system. Compared to other options I rented, it exceeded my expectations.
You can really sink into a subject and grab details you wouldn't expect with fantastic bokeh, back up and get a completely different perspective. Subjects are sharp and creamy where you want it. Even banal postcard shots have a depth of detail to them that elevates the image.
Despite the size, it's light enough for most handheld situations. The AF/MF ring switch and focusing zone switch is convenient when focusing macro subjects. The stabilization worked great.
I want to compare this to the FE 100mm F2.8 STF GM for portraits.

Have only had a couple of weeks but this is an excellent lens. I have been a Nikon user for some years (previously with Canon) but I am now totally going over to Sony and I am really impressed with the results. Add to that how light the equipment is to carry and this is important these days with reduced in-flight baggage restrictions.

Capable macro lens
When I switched to Sony I wanted to get a macro lens and debated which one to go for. I'm very pleased with this one. It is easy to use. I like the ability to switch between manual and auto focus by pulling/pushing the collar and manual focus feels very intuitive. On my first few outings with it I've been very happy with its results both as a macro lens and as a portrait one.

It is a joy to handle. It has quite an old-school feeling about it, but not too heavy. I have just played aroud with the features so far. The focus limiter swich is a good thing - otherwise it is likely to go a-hunting. I have a product photography job next week for which this lens is ideal.

FE 90mm F2.8 - WOW & MUST HAVE
Sony has got 5 different lenses for Full Frame E- mounts Mirrorless Cameras available when it comes to Macro & Close Ups.
If you're really looking to have outstanding images, the Sony FE 90MM F2.8 is the BEST one within the Sony line of Lens for Macro.
Please note that this lens can be used as a portrait lens as well, and the results are just as great as macro images.
Yes it is very expensive to buy this lens, but I've always said this and will always stand by it. I believe in buying expensive gear, because they will last for a very long time, as long as you take care of it. I've got a huge OCD when it comes to taking care of all my gear, be it musical instruments, video gear & camera gear. They're all in a MINT CONDITION.
I am also very grateful that this lens was given to me as a payment for a project that I am currently working on, thank you very much - you know who you are.
Bottom line:
Would I recommend the Sony FE 90MM F2.8 Macro Lens?
YES.
Buy it & you won't regret it.

What a lens, wow!
WHAT A BEAST!!!! Beautiful crisp clear scenery shots, amazing low light focal capability and it's an easy to use/figure out lens all around. I heard many people complaining about the auto focus noise, but I have not experienced it myself. I find it to be quite silent personally. It is however finicky at times and I found myself using manual focus more often than not. The lens itself has got kind of a fixed distance zoom (if that makes any sense), so be aware of that. Example: The picture of my motorcycle, to get it all in frame was taken from about 30' away at night is very poor almost black lighting. Note that when your shooting close up, the slightest twist on manual focus is the distance between miles in comparison (see pic of dog). Its a touchy lense but I feel its well worth the lessons it teaches you. A delicate touch will make all the difference. My advice: Buy this lens & thank me later..... DO IT!

My first G master dedicated lens
Coupled with my five year dream camera the constantly updated A7 series body I now have the camera that should see out my days.
The world getting smaller I decided that my portrait history was needing my smaller challenged world to come to the fore.
Updated my computer two years ago to cope with the memory to cope with 42Mega pixels and the result has in just 24 shots been astounding. The speed of the focus has no lag which the A6 did along with the first A7 and my wait is well served in cost and quality.
I bought a wide telephoto Sigma as a stopgap butthe weight alone will have me saving for another G Master compatibles.
You get what you pay for in life and this lens does not disappoint except the people who are surprised at the minutae and ask me to delete their false vanity.
Exceptional............

May be the sharpest lens I've ever seen
In the last 5 years I have grown to love macro photography. I came from another system with strong macro lens choices. I bought this to go with my A7RV specifically to play with the focus bracketing features and it has not disappointed. The lens feels very nice and the push/pull focus ring is brilliant! Optical steady shot, focus hold and range limiter are just some of the things that showed that Sony took Macro shooters seriously. There really isnt a more feature-loaded macro lens out there from anyone else.

Love this lens
I have wanting this lens for about 12 months, put off by the price plus other people's feelings about their own (competitor) macro lenses. I needn't have worried. I can finally attempt the sort of macro shots I have been trying for (flowers/bees/bokeh effects). I love this lens, its sharp, easy to move from autofocus to manual focus, good solid feel to it, as have my other Sony lenses. I have used it also as a general 90mm lens and again am happy with the results. More practise needed but that's me, not the lens!

High quality construction & precise focusing
I bought this from a camera store in Euston London and was given some pretty convincing advise why I should have it. I have used it to take about 150 or so shots and notice that a great deal of precision is required in setting up the scene to get near perfect results which slowly I am getting now. I use a Sony Alfa 7RMII which is quite a new purchase. It is large compared to my go to lens Sony Zeiss 55mm 1.8 but walking around London for a day with it wasn't too much hardship it is quite long but but balanced with the camera. The images from the top of the Tate Modern over London and inside the museum were very interesting as were the ones of family. It focuses very quickly and silently but be sure to set the focus limiter on the left side correctly otherwise the lens hunts to focus to much. The manual focus is an excellent benefit and really allows you to focus right in deep by magnifying your subject then fire your shot for very precise results. The steady-shot switch is a help when the wind was blowing although the focus hold I have not used much at this stage. I am still getting used to it but I am pleased with the purchase and I know it will lift my game further. Try it and you might get hooked.

I bought this lens mainly for macro and the quality of both the lens and the images is impressive. It's quite chunky on an a7rii, but not unmanageably so. Regarless of where you buy it, there's no hiding the fact that competitors lenses are still cheaper, which is the only downside, otherwise I'd give it 5 stars.

Pleased with the macro image quality, once the focus is established. In low light the MF collar is useful. Yet to be 100% proficient with the lens but will be an ideal replacement for a Zeiss Makro-Planar 60mm f2.8 used with a E-mount to C/Y adaptor.

The perfect lens for Macro Photography.
I bought the a6300 a few weeks ago. I wasn't happy with the kit lens' image quality, so I decided to make an investment on a high-end lens and bought this one. After a few days of playing with the settings in my camera, I managed to get some amazing shots. I am not a professional, just an amateur. I don't know much about photography, but with this babe I feel like one. I am still learning how to shoot in manual. But using the auto mode still produces beautiful images especially when shooting in natural daylight. I am attaching a few photos. Hopefully they can be uploaded in high resolution.

Fantastic lens
Although bought to do macro work it has doubled up as a fantastic portrait lens. As a Macro is has great sharpness and clarity and even hand held can take great pictures with its OSS. The surprise has been as a portrait lens and it focuses quickly and quietly. Although very much a personal taste issue I am preferring it to the 85mm G Master! Only worries are about potential warranty concerns and Sony doesn't have a great record on that aspect of customer service

Great lens for both macro and general work.
Before I bought this, I used a Leicaflex R 100mm Macro Elmar for my macro and close-up work. This lens is very sharp and has a lovely bokeh, but of course lacked stabilisation, auto-focus and exposure links with my Sony A7. The FE 2.8 90mm from Sony is equally sharp and also has a super bokeh. In addition, it has all the features that the Leica lacked - Steadyshot (which gives at least 2 extra stops), autofocus (that can be easily switched to manual for fine adjustment by simply sliding the focus ring, and a focus hold button. In all it is a splendid lens, and although somewhat heavy and quite costly it certainly delivers.

Quality photos, but beware it
After 13 months of buying this lens, when I changed the battery of my camera, it stopped focusing. They told me that it has a scratch and is not covered by the guarantee. Although it has some superficial scrape, the failure must be due to another cause... However, I asked for a budget to solve it.
- Two months later I received a big budget. Between the price (close to a new) and the reason (literally it only has a scratch), I decided to reject it. After several conversations and mails without getting solutions, they returned it to me with three months of delay.
- In the last two years I have invested a lot in photography gear of that brand (three cameras and 12 lens) and I am surprised what is happening at the first issue with a lens under warranty.
- After talking with several people of this brand (conversations, whatsapp, mails) and taking another three months without any proper action on their part, they end up telling me they had no solution for my case.
It has been more than six months since I started this adventure and, to help future potential buyers, these are my conclusions:
1.- Buy electronics or photography on line - With the same failure, they would have returned a new lens. In addition, they ask for "apologies for the inconvenience caused by the failure".
2.- Be aware of this lens, which gave me many joys (attached two photographs), but a great headache and grief due to this problem.

Beautifully made & extremely sharp
Bought this lens recently. So far I’ve used it both for macro and as a mid range telescope photo lens. I really like the results. The images are very sharp. Also aesthetically it’s a beautiful looking lens.

Great overall
Bought it about half a year ago and very happy with it, sharpness-image quality-mechanical clutch option and OSS simple unbeatable and non existent yet in another brands, my other option was Sigma 105mm macro F2.8 but clutch and OSS were impossible to resist!

Great Investment!
Love everything about this lens. Very nice build quality, and light weight. I find myself using this lens more for portraits /headshots than macro uses. Extremely sharp but with a pleasant rendering.

Amazing!!
The one lens you need if your looking to get into commercial photography and videography. I wasted so much money on so many lenses, but this one fits all the studio needs.

Fantastic Lens - for macro and more
I've been using the lens for 2 months now. I have used it as a macro lens (why I bought it), a portrait lens (an ideal focal length) and for landscapes (incredibly sharp prime). It is great value.

My Go-To Portrait/Macro Lens
This lens is so flexible. I can shoot the sharpest of macro with the creamy bokeh.
I use it on my a6500, A7rii and A7riii
I am no professional. But this lens can make you feel like one!

Sony's most versatile lens
I bought this lens a couple of weeks ago and I'm very happy with my purchase. I have used this lens for stills and video on a Sony A7RII and it's overall quality and sharpness is incredible. I can use this lens in various situations such as for food, macro or portrait photography with its telephoto focal length a F/2.8 aperture. This lens also has a really creamy

The sharpest lens I have ever touched
I can't say enough about this lens. The more I use it, the more I fall in love with it. I use it on an a6500 so a 135mm FF equivalent focal length. It's an incredible macro lens and an equally impressive portrait lens. The AF isn't very quick but that's because of obvious reasons. This lens is sharper than anything I have ever used. Sharper than Sony's 85mm f1.4.

A Quality Lens
I bought this lens to do some close ups. Early attempts look promising but I've not yet had opportunity to give it a rigorous trial.
