Versatile 28-70 all round lense
As I currently use all Sony equipment A7III and a A6400, I was looking for a small zoom lense that could be used in both my full frame and cropped sensor cameras. So far I’ve found it to be a sharp and precise lense without the normal high cost. I would highly recommend, whether taking portraits of landscape photographs.

Great value for money
I bought the lens because of its weight. The pictures are perfect for my use case. The quality is great. I've compared the lens with a similar Tamron, but the Sony is sharper.

Suprising Performance.
Man, kit lenses have come a far way. I've been pleasantly surprised by the sharpness and overall contrast this lens provides. No issues shooting it wide open, however limited the aperature is in low light. If you can't take compelling pics with this lens, then...well....it's not the lens. Nice and light too. Every 7 series owner should have this in their bag. Just no reason not too. Very happy with mine and I have quite a bit of Zeiss to compare it to. It's every bit as good within it's range. First time I can say I don't mind using the "kit" lens on a day out.

Great Beginner Lens
This lens comes as a kit lens when you purchase the Alpha A7. For a starter lens the image quality it is pretty good. It makes for a good general purpose lens and has a decent zoom. The autofocus is very quick and very quiet. For the price, the overall quality of the lens is excellent. Just what you expect to see from Sony. Although the value is very good, I would not have bought this lens if it was not included with my camera. My main issue with this lens is the aperture. With only a maximum of F3.5, I felt limited almost immediately. For my shooting preference, I would like to see this lense with maybe an F2.8 or F2. Don’t be discouraged by this, though. It is still a very well rounded lens. Good to learn on. I would recommend it to anyone that has just gotten into photography with a Sony E-Mount body.

A light weight travel lens
I bought this lens with my Sony A7rii. Since then I have bought the 16-35 F4, the 24-105 F4 and the 70-300F4. All of these lens take much better photos than the 28-70, however, they are all also quite a bit heavier. When I want to travel light, I find that this is a very nice match which gives acceptable images.

Huge glaring issue
I was so excited to try my A7III with this lens. But I was disappointed with the huge glaring problem on this lens. I have tried multiple lens and it seems like only 28-70mm has this issue. I tried different apertures and still the same. I bought a 50mm and it does not have this issue. I can't return this either because I got it along with my A7III from adorama

This should not be the kit lens
I finally switched from Canon to Sony and this is the Kit-lens that came with my Sony A7iii.
Previously I used a Canon 6D with a 24-70 L IS USM and a 70-200 L IS USM lens.
It't early days, but in tems of weight/performance I am not fully convinced about this lens. Sony would do better adding a light prime lens (35mm perhaps) or offering an option for a kit with a more sophisticated lens, as this one does not do the camera full justice.

I got this lens with my A 7iii camera the lens is a kit lens and for a beginner it does an alright job. I wished it would have been an f4 or the way through but I think it would have been more expensive.
Again for someone who is starting photography is a good start lens.

Very useable kit lens!
As kit lenses go, this is one of the best I've used. It's both wide enough and long enough for general use. Being a kit lens its not fast, with a maximum aperture of f3.5 at 28mm, around f4.5 at 50mm and f5.6 at the 70mm end but is has stabilization (OSS), which allows for slower shutter speeds in low light without blur. However, if you want some nice bokeh, you'll have to get close to your subject. The lens is sharp, even wide open and doesn't seem to have any issues with CA. And an added bonus for a kit lens is that its weather sealed! Great little lens (actualy not that little, which is the only down side) which represents amazing value, because if you had to buy this lens on it's own, its not priced like a kit lens at £395!

Great Lens
This is a perfect lens for anyone who can make do with a limited number of lenses. It has a very useful zoom range and great clarity. It's a little bulky, but no worse than most mid range zooms. If it weren't for the fact that I have other lenses that span above and below the zoom range of this one it would be my go-to lens.

Better match for A7II than A7r
Works very well on my A7II. Very sharp centre performance. Great general everyday lens. Works even better on an APS-C camera, brilliant on my old NEX5N but of course you loose the wide angle 28mm because of the crop factor. Worth considering if you can find a good price.

Nice "start-up" lens
The Sony FE 28-70mm F3.5-5.6 OSS was purchased as a "Start-Up" for a Sony a7RIII. It was affordable and a good lens to get you familiar with how full frame Sony's work. With Sony "Super 35" & "Zoom" it is very veristal and can get you very familiar with the a camera. Also as a base lens with a camera that has a high ISO it can come in very handy. The sharpness isn't bad at all, nice and lite, but remember it is only 3.5-5.6 and only 70mm is the max.

Purchased with Sony A7 as seemed a good value package, unfortunately the lens has not lived up to expectations and on wideangle is very soft at the sides, at 28mm only the middle 50% of the picture width us useable, ok from 50mm onwards only, so no good for landscapes.

Soft, CA, but cheap and fast
If on a budget, the focus is fast, silent and it will do the job at smaller apertures. The images however have the same soft, bluish haze that former kit lenses have also suffered from. The redeeming quality is that it is inexpensive and the focus is fast. All in all, it's an average lens, and a decent kit lens at that. Anyone seriously wanting performance will not look at this lens, nor should they.

The Sony FE 28-70mm F3.5-5.6 A Most Excellent Lens
Probably the best cheap Kit zoom in the standard short zoom lens kit class, very good value for money, the best thing about this lens is optically very sharp, almost silent, the zoom control feels very positive with a classy feel resistance grip, but above all it takes very good pictures and stable videos, It is very light if you don’t want to carry around too much weight. I would recommend this lens over all the other full frame camera standard kit lenses.

NOT A SUPERB LENS BUT EXCELLENT VALUE.
I bought this lens as a kit lens with the Alpha 7 Mark II. I was a bit hesitant to buy this lens as there were mixed reviews, some reviewers saying to get something else. However, it is quite cheap when bought as part of a kit. As long as you use it at f8 or even f5.6 it will actually give good results, even sharp at the edge of the image (at f8) and quite sharp at the centre. Focusing is quick in good light, and also silent for video work. There is no switch for optical stabilisation or for manual/autofocus. This is done in the camera menu. I must confess that I haven't taken many shots at maximum aperture, but I don't usually do this anyway. The image is sharp in the centre at all apertures; at maximum aperture expect a little softness in the corners. The lens is moisture and dustproof. It comes with a decent lens hood. When focusing, the lens never extends more than one centimetre, and the front element doesn't rotate. If you are working to a budget I would recommend this lens without hesitation; if you have loads of money to spare, go for something better. Some edited raw images attached taken with the Sony 28-70
mm. lens.

Excellent value and performance.
Surprisingly like the 24-70mm it is “Dust and moisture-resistant design”. Nice touch for a value lens.
The lens barely extends at all during its full zoom sweep. Not internal zoom technically, but as close as you could get.
Small and light.
Silent focus.
Fast focusing, especially in good light as is expected.
OSS, or Image Stabilization. In their value offering. This combined with the last few bullets lets you know that high content value Sony lenses were possible.
Versatile. With its humble aperture specs there is no mind blowing bokeh, nor sliver thin depth of field to be found here, but that is it. It can muster acceptable isolation under the right conditions but is excels at nearly anything else that falls within its focal range.

Not up to scratch
Bought this for my A7R2 for casual use but had to return it immediately as it was very noticeable that the left hand side of the image was out of focus compared to the right hand side. This showed up badly at infinity focus setting. I had heard of this optical fault from other reviews on the web but couldn’t believe this was still occurring on new lenses. I did not replace it with the same lens as I had lost faith in that particular model. I have been very happy with my A6 and A7 cameras and the other lenses I already have for them.

Good range but sould be 24mm at wide end.
I find this lens is a poor kit lens that does not match the sensors ability to capture the contrast and sharpness. Probably a 50 or 35 mm prime would be more up to the task.
I have found that the lens flaring is a problem in bright sun light as well as the colours are very washed out.
I have manged to get some fine family activity photos but the lens can not be relied on and I find i need a back up camera available, some times even the cell phone.

Great kit lens!
I was not sure about the photographic quality of this lens when I bought it, however having used it it is a great all round lens which I recommend.

Surprising good for a kit lens
Image quality is very good for a kit lens although it is a little slow thereby limiting low light usage without pushing ISO up.

For the price, it's really good
Considering that this is a so called "kit" lens, and doesn't cost a lot, it's remarkably good.
If you are just getting used to your Sony camera, this lens is more than adequate to go through that stage and somewhat beyond.
Definately a good lens to learn with.
