This is used for general photography outside, so landscapes and street. Also indoor event with room light. It handles all situations well and stands up to my Zeiss lenses.

I have the 24-70 G Zeiss and love it. Maybe there's something wrong with it. Software was up to date. Needs steady shot!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great walkaround lens when traveling The Sony FE 24-70mm f2.8 GM is a zoom lens for its full-frame Alpha mirrorless cameras. The wide to short telephoto range and bright f2.8 focal ratio make it ideal for general-purpose use including portraits, event and wedding photography. As with most Sony lenses, this lens relies on the camera body to provide image stabilization. Plus it has a customisable button which can be assigned various functions like AF-Lock. The Sony FE 24-70mm f/2.8 GM has a wide and ridged focus ring. Manual focusing is possible by using the dedicated AF/MF switch to toggle between AF and MF. I am impressed with its amazing sharpness

Whilst it is noticeably bigger and heavier its worth it for the extra sharpness and lens performance. I also like the focus hold button on the side.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very impressive I've only had this lens for 2 weeks: purchased together with a Sony A7 III and an FE 100-400mm lens. Moving from a Nikon format the quality of the lens is very impressive: high quality glass providing very sharp images indeed. Overall the quality of Sony camera gear is remarkable: expensive yes but, quality over quantity any time. I wanted just 2 lenses and, although I also looked at the FE 16-35mm I opted for the 24-70mm which is now my 'go-to' lens of choice: I leave to on the camera most of the time. I will enjoy experimenting with the new camera and the supporting lenses over the coming months.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It's like Magic! I had put off getting the larger G Master lenses as they were larger and heavier and more expensive. I was perfectly happy with the prime lenses I had and the 24-240 is also excellent! But curiosity and great reviews online, as well as the fact I went years with the 28-300 Nikkor lens before going with the far more excellent Nikkor 24-70. So being used to that range a month ago I got the 24-70 G Master and wow! The weight doesn't bother me as it is lighter than the Nikkor version, and of course the A7RII is way lighter than the D4 I was using. So, to make a long story short this lens performs like a champ! The 2.8 still gives you great bokeh, and the 24-70 range covers all you need for portrait, pin-up, fashion shoots, and more!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding Being in transition from Nikon to Sony; I was hoping to use the Commlite adaptor on my 24-70E f2.8 VR as it is an amazing lens. However, the adaptor proved next to useless, particularly as the recent upgrade excluded E lines!! So my 24-70 was sold as soon as I could obtain the GM. It is as good as and even better in certain ways. Where as the E had a 'thin' Leica style rendering; the GM has more contrast and depth, i.e.3D. It has a solid build, and does add considerable weight to the A7. Not as large or heavy as the Nikkon E. I don't use the AF freeze button as I back button focus, which makes a lot of the AF modes redundant. If your budget can stretch a bit this lens will cover a large chunk of your needs, with pleasure and style!!

Lens hood attachment not as robust as the Canon. Mounting on body is stiff on my new version. Zoom ring movement (force needed to zoom) varies a lot in the two I've used.

Both the sharpness and resolution is excellent. I just hope that Sony will make a real video camera compatible with these lenses like Canon does with the C300 or C500. That would make these lenses even more valuable.

The sharpness is edge to edge and is great for eventing, landscapes portraiture etc. The only thing Which would improve this lens is adding more focus hold buttons like I have on the 70-200 2.8 for when shooting in portrait orientation.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Mixed I’ve had this lens’s for less than a year (approximately 8 months) and was extremely excited when I got this lens. Initially, it was working just fine with out of focus images here and there, I attributed it to user error. However after 8 months of this being my primary lens I am still experiencing blurring images when attempting to capture both moving and still subjects. Not sure if I bought a dud when I purchased this lens or if the motor in the lens is malfunction and shifts my focus when I press the shutter release. This occurs on continuous AF and single shot AF on my A7rIII.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It will break for no reason and fall off I bought a brand new 24-70 2.8 gmaster, my first sony “professional” lens and it broke on me at work. Five months after buying it, and something like the third or fourth time I was using it for work, It broke leaving the metal barrel inside de camera and the lens body going to the floor. I managed to kind of catch it but it still hit the floor. I tried to assemble it to continue to work but two screws that holds the barrel were broken and I think also some flex, so the camera did not recognize it. I send it for warranty repair and they evaluated it and said it will not be covered because it had an impact and they will charge me something like a third of the lens value for the repair or a high value for a diagnostic fee. After explaining several times that the lens was defective and that it broke while I was using it causing the fall, they made me pay for repairs. Apparently the warranty is void if there is an impact, irregardless of the circumstances. I paid for the repairs, but its been over a month and it is still not ready. As soon as I get it back I will sell it and all my other sony gear because I can’t trust their equipment for my professional work.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Complete Genuine Masters Review I got this lens few weeks ago. I didnot wanted to jump the gun before I use it. Now I am fully satisfied I call it GENUINE MASTERS Lens. Lets start from design, it got solid make , big 77mm glass lets a lot of light to squeeze in which is further streamed with row of mighty lenses. Its extremly sharp. Colour production is genuine. Its so so accurate that you can use it for portrait even. Now light phography is at ease. Focus remains still fast but you may need a bit of adjustment depending upon your mode of shooting. In my opinion if you can afford just buy it. It compliments your vision and ideology of perfection. NOTE : SONY WHY I CAN’t UPLOAD PIC. Man Ur product would have got stamp of authority with my pic. But I cant upload.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Smooth, sharp, sexy. The FE 24-70 F2.8 GM, with the unmistakeable, polished red square on the side. The focus? Tack sharp, see below. You can see the peach fuzz on the face of your subject. The manual focusing ring glides with your intentional touch, but stays in place for the natural movements of your breathing. The pearl finish on the body of the lens is low-profile and pairs with the Alpha line like steak and red wine--it's sexy, it's refined, it's Alpha. The 24-70 GM is for those who do not sacrifice quality while being unable to decide between having a wide-angle or a telephoto lens--it is the lens you take when you don't know what you'll need. The 24-70 mm is for those who want to thrive in chaos.

I bought this lens over a year ago and it barely ever comes off my A7riii - I've done product shots, portraits, video, landscape, time-lapses, long exposures - you name it I've done it all with this lens. Photography is expensive and I get that the price tag is nothing to scoff at but if you're truly looking for that "do it all" lens this really can't be matched. The only minior complaint that I have with this lens is that is basically ruins the form factor of a mirrorless camera. It's very big and heavy and does not play nicely with most gimbal set ups

That's easy This one. 24-70 gives you great reach and decent width. Can't go wrong. Any issues I could say about it have been addressed in the new model 2.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from SONY FE 24-70mm F2.8 GM This is my first lens in the GM Series, I've only used it a few times, but the quality of the lens is outstanding, however I do own other Sony Lenses as well. This GM Lens can be used for the following: Video Food Real Estate 'Interior & Exterior' Weddings Landscapes Astro Headshots Events Sony has a lot of lenses for the type of work you do, but this one Sony 24-70mm F2.8 GM is one of the best lens you can have in your bag, that will cover the most type of work you're doing and/or something new that you wanna get into. This lens is a bit heavy, but I don't mind that at all, the only reason why I'm even mentioning it is because I use a Gimbal and would like other Gimbal users to know that, especially for the ones who are looking to buy this lens and are doing their research. This lens will work on a gimbal, but you'd have to decide at what focal length you're gonna be at, because you'd need to balance it. If you can afford it through finance, then you should. This lens won't disappoint you. I hope this review helps you in deciding if you should or shouldn't go for this lens, but once again this lens will cover the type of work you're currently doing at the moment. I've given this GM Lens a 10/10 Score. HAPPY SHOOTING :-)

The autofocus and manual focus stopped working, in addition to loosing the ability to select the aperture when in aperture control. Two weeks after sending lens for Warranty Repair service have not had any feedback as to when lens will be repaired.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from F--- issue guarantee don't cover damage Got a lens brand new and thought at first that I didn't knew how to manage or work with the lens and put it aside while working in another projects. When I got the chance to try the lens again F--- F stop issue. Out-focus problem, which with a little research I identified, my friend who advice me to buy this lens had the same problem, but out of guarantee. Now the repair service is saying that my initial issue is "Package damage" and the problem with my out-focus came from that, they can't tell me if my camera got there in pieces or with any damage besides the one that was the reason that I put my lens to repair. So it feels pretty unfair, and not something to trust in Sony guarantee.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding Being in transition from Nikon to Sony; I was hoping to use the Commlite adaptor on my 24-70E f2.8 VR as it is an amazing lens. However, the adaptor proved next to useless, particularly as the recent upgrade excluded E lines!! So my 24-70 was sold as soon as I could obtain the GM. It is as good as and even better in certain ways. Where as the E had a 'thin' Leica style rendering; the GM has more contrast and depth, i.e.3D. It has a solid build, and does add considerable weight to the A7. Not as large or heavy as the Nikkon E. I don't use the AF freeze button as I back button focus, which makes a lot of the AF modes redundant. If your budget can stretch a bit this lens will cover a large chunk of your needs, with pleasure and style!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Expensive but worth it I have a number of Sony lenses. Also APS-C and full frame. I finally decided to upgrade to the top of the line. This is used for general photography outside, so landscapes and street. Also indoor event with room light. It handles all situations well and stands up to my Zeiss lenses.

This is one of the finest lenses I own and the best 24-70mm amongst my other 24-70mm lenses from other manufacturers.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from GMaster Quality I have owned the lens for about 1-1/2 months. I have used it for a high-density Christmas in July Party. (5) Paid and (2) Volunteer Events. Because the Sony A7IV has more than enough latitude, the 2.8 f-Stop was not of concern.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best in class workhorse lens! I recently purchased an FX3 camera and was going back and forth on which lens to buy as my first variable zoom. I knew that whichever one I bought would bear the bulk of my work in the near future. The competitor was half the price so it was tempting. I was saving and finally just decided that I would grab the Sony because it was designed to mate with the camera perfectly. The features are very well thought out and allow me to change things on the fly very quickly (and efficiently) without compromising the shot. Very happy with this lens. The picture quality is the best I’ve captured.

I have custom set this focus hold on the lens to EYE AF, which better suits my work in portraites

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Main Lens I bought this lens to fill the gap between the 16-35mm wide angle and the 70-200mm telephoto. I had envisaged that it would be permanently on my A7R2, and this has proved correct, as it is an ideal focal length for general use. The f2.8 allows use in darker shots as well as adding an excellent bokeh when required. The photos taken with it live up to the good reviews from various sites, with sharp images throughout the frame, with no noticeable fall off on the edges or corners. With a narrow UV filter attached I have not experienced any vignette. Auto focus is excellent and fast. Manual handling of the lens adjustment rings is firm without being difficult. I like the lock which stops lens creep. If I have a criticism it is the weight, I changed to Sony full frame from Canon to cut down on the pack weight I seem to have to carry with me, particularly when flying. This lens is heavy and big, but it performs well and is well made and constructed.

After purchasing the A7 RIII on September 30 and shooting with 5 other native lenses (16-35mm/2.8 G Master, 24-105mm/4 G, 55mm/ 1.8, 35mm/1.4, and the 35mm/2.8 on both the A7 RIII and A7 RII, I made the decision to purchase the 24-70 G Master 2 weeks ago. On my first outing with the lens, I noticed how effortless it was to meter my compositions using my A7 RIII. The color was superlative...rich yet not oversaturated and natural...The sharpness was superb throughout all focal lengths...absolutely no vignetting...Although needless to say, but to report anyway, all the G Masters are built solidly and the weather sealing is immaculate ( and I'm speaking from prior experience of owning the 15-35mm/ 2.8 G Master)...There are no cutting corners or compromises in the build quality of any of these lenses...The Sony 24-70 G Master lens was not a work in progress...Sony pegged it with this one and no doubt it ranks among the absolute best, if not, the very best of all the 24-70mm Full Frame Lenses... Well worth the investment...Endorsed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very sharp, very heavy I've been getting pixel sharp and clean photos with this lens even in difficult lighting. Autofocus is fast and quiet. I don't have any battery drain issues with stabilization. The front glass cleans with little effort and so far I haven't seen any dust inside. The significant downside is that this is a HEAVY lens. It's about at the limit of what you can carry in one hand and it needs two hands for shooting. There's a customizable "focus hold" button between the turning rings that can't be relied on. You can hold it down accidentally in portrait mode but then can't reach it in landscape mode. It's probably best to set the camera to automatically switch to MF when the focus ring is turned.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It's worth the money I'm a prime guy normally, but I got tired of missing shots because I had the wrong focal length lens mounted. This is a very sharp lens. I've not compared it to my Zeiss Loxia 21mm, which is very sharp. But from the images I have taken....I am very happy. At 24mm it is at its very best. For me it's an ideal keep on the camera most of the day lens.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good but limited Magnification I wanted the Sony 24-70mm f/2.8 lens for a rather specific purpose: to take pictures indoors without flash. Yes this lens takes good pictures indoors and maybe good for things like weddings when you are close to people. However, now I take many different type of pictures and I find the a 24-70mm lens may not be the best lens to have with it’s limits. Today’s cameras allow for high IOS, for more latitude in magnification, I have used a Sony 24-240mm and gotten a acceptable indoors. So I am sorry, but a 24-70mm lens may not be for me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Stunning Lens Beautifully sharp images, edge-to-edge, even wide open at 2.8. Beautiful bokeh. Good resistance to lens flare. All-in-all, a fantastic lens if you’re a serious amateur who cares about their gear and wants the best image quality you can get in an all-in-one zoom lens, especially coupled with full-frame A7 series. The only down-side to the lens is it's big and heavy, so not the most ideal walk-about lens.

Finally, I bought a 7RM4, and tried the lease in both cameras. I was surprised by the resolution extent given in my AOS-c, and completely astonished, when I used it on my 7RM4. The only cons I find is its weight and size. Anyway, they are justified once you see the results

Everything is clean and new I don't understand. It works fine for hours, then out of the blue it wont focus and gets super dark. It's getting worse and now im afraid to even take it on a shoot. Super bummed.

Sure, it's Ridiculous Expensive and I do think Sony need to review the price of it's lenses, specially because they are gib and heavy. But it's well made, I would love to have 3 hold buttons like my 70-200, on portrait the button doesn't really work because of it's position, but the build quality is amazing, the image quality it's outstanding, AF not to fast, could be better and should because of it's price, but it's good enough.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great, but with room for improvement The F/2.8 max aperture is great for low light photography without having to do long exposures, and the 24-70mm focal length range makes it quite versatile. It's my only lens and I haven't felt the absolute need to get a lens with more zoom yet. It's a bit soft on the edges of the photo and has a lot of purple fringing, at least at wider apertures. The lens is larger and heavier than your average lens under 70mm which makes it impractical for traveling or street photography.

I love the starburst effect possible with this lens and it's crispness/clarity. Only downside is it is heavy. It is a go-to lens so use it alot but would struggle if I only used a strap rather than a chest harness. However, it did replace the F4 and a Batis 80mm for travelling so is marginally lighter overall and takes less space in my backpack. Attached photo was an experiment of starburst, taken at f18.

I always heard how sharp the 24-70 G Master lens is and I was not disappointed. It is tack sharp, and the bokeh is really smooth. I have been very happy with the performance of the lens. One thing is it’s a hefty lens but that just affirms the build quality.

The build quality is excellent, and the focus ring and focal length ring both have a very reassuring feel to them with just the right amount of resistance. Image quality is superb. This is an expensive lens but you get real quality for your money.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Big on quality, big on size I don't like large mid range zooms, which extend in size when zooming! I much prefer zooms with internal focusing. However, the quality of the images is incredible, starting from the full aperture. On few occasions I didn't think that closing the aperture could improve the sharpness of the images, only to find that it goes to another level when closed down by just one stop. Zoom is disproportionate in size to the compact form facto of the cameras, and requires battery grip for comfortable use. The colour and out of focus areas rendering is excellent.
