Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sony has done it again! Although I have only used this lens a few times since receiving it, I am already in LOVE with this baby! It focuses very fast, has essentially no vignetting or distortion at the extremes, and the barrel action is smooth. I sold my Sony 24-105 to purchase this lens, and do not regret it one bit! Just a fantastic lens all around.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I feel like a Pro! This lens looks the business. I really do feel like a pro walking along with this in front of me. The image quality, though I'm still learning, seems staggering crisp and I like the way I can control aperture and focus on the lens itself as apposed to on the camera. My only slight issue with it is the size makes it pretty difficult to get away with any candid shots. (Just tell people you work for a local paper and you'll have them posing and smiling!) My first impression was it seemed just a tad big for my A74 body but I'm getting used to it. The weight doesn't bother me too much although you certainly notice it when on a longish walkabout. I bought it mainly for sports photography and it does seem like a very capable tool for that the few times I've used it for that. I've ordered a 2x teleconverter to extend its reach so I'll let you know how that goes. Hope that helps someone to decide.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great improvement So much lighter than my MK1 which is the heaviest 70-200 i've ever owned? The images look awesome, and the autofocus is very quiet.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So far the best lens that I've seen My daughter started playing softball so I wanted good pictures, I was a Nikon guy, I was using a D810 with a 70-200 2.8 G zoom with TC-14 teleconverter, I got good pictures but the camera with the lens is so heavy and it looks huge and to transfer the pictures is a pain since the camera cannot connect with a phone, only with a computer with a UT-1 unit or just using the card. I saw another person using a mirrorless camera, light an compacted so I got an alpha 7R3 and I did a lot of reading and watched a lot of you tube videos and I choose the FE70-200 OSSII with a SEL 20 TC teleconverter, the camera with the lens is so much lighter, the images are better than Nikon because the lens has too many advanced features that you cannot find in Nikon lenses for now. The lens is super fast and clear, you can leave the f at 2.8 in the lens (if that's what you want) it has custom buttons that you can program (3), you have to see it to believe it! Also if you use jpeg you can transfer the pictures to your phone with there on the field! I took the picture that I posted from very far away, you cannot get on the field to take pictures....I’ve been asked to remove the picture…..

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Superb Rendering Meets Fast/Accurate Auto Focus When I entered the Sony ecosystem a few years ago I covered the medium tele focal range with the Tamron 70-180 because of its weight and compact nature. While the image quality was good, I had a number of issues with it. The AF was not as quick to acquire a subject as I'd like. I often missed a number of shot opportunities because of that. After using it in the field for a couple of years I also noticed a dust/particle building up inside the lens. I attributed that to the extending nature of the zoom. The Sony 70-200gm ii not only addressed those for me, but established a new bar for what I can expect when using a zoom lens in my work (event/sports). I've been using this glass for about 7 months now and can tell you there is a night and day difference in af while using it on both my a9 and a7riii. Besides my 35gm, this may be the best af I've experienced in a lens/camera combo. Internal zoom as a feature should not be overlooked. This glass is sealed very well. I rarely worry about the environment I'm shooting in because of it. The biggest surprise was how light it is. While not as light as the Tamron, it is still very comfortable to work with even after hours of shooting. On top of all of that, the image rendering is the best I've ever had with a zoom. It's near prime level sharp.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Like it but not love it......yet. Pretty good lens for an array of photography uses. From good to great in a bunch of applications. I think it would be a lot better if the focus, zoom, and aperture were a bit closer together in regards to shortening the overall lens length. Other than that, I can't really complain.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 70-200 GM OSS II The lens is tack sharp. Good balance, easy off and on connection. I wish Sony had a 24-240 in this lens like the old FE lens but 2.8.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worth it. Buy it. You always wonder if a first party lens is worth it because they're usually a pretty penny more than third party lenses. I've had 70-200s from Tamron and Sigma (the bigma 70-200), and this go around I decided to spend the extra for the Sony. The AF is faster, the hit rate is unbelievable, and the weight is nicely distributed for hand holding. Just do it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Expensive but brilliantly awesome lens I have been wanting the FE 70-200mm F2.8 GM for quite some time and have been researching the difference between original lens and the OSS II to try and gauge if the price difference could be justified. I haven't got the original one, but do have the 100-400 GM and 200-600 G and I am very impressed with those lens, so I do have experience with the GM/G range. The reviews for the original 70-200 GM are very good... but when comparing the physical differences (weight, switches, aperture ring) and my research on the OSS II version, swayed me to opt for the more expensive OSS II lens - overall decision was based on weight, aperture ring on lens and the DMF switch on the lens. In summary... absolutely love the FE 70-200mm F2.8 GM OSS II ... is it worth the extra money - not sure I can answer that until I try the original one - but ask me if I am happy with the lens, then apart from the price tag, the lens is absolutely brilliantly bonkers ... it is so light, fast AF and the picture quality is as you would hope for from such an expensive lens...AWESOME, and the bokeh is just so soft and velvety. My 2 favourite features (apart from the weight), is the aperture dial ON the lens and the 'Full Time DMF' on/off switch. This is now staying on one of my cameras as my walkabout camera/lens. Would I recommend it ... absolutely yes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Incredibly light and Insanely sharp Not had thos lens for very long, yet it is becoming my go to lens, when I decide to go walk about, in the fields and woodlands... Paired with my Sony a7Rv, it still amazes me, that I can be so far away from say a large bird in flight of building in the distance, yet on viewing at 100%, there is no much detail... Get up close however and this lens really shines.. Would I recommend this lens, 100% I would.. Well done Sony

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing Lens! I've used this a few times now and the weight of this lens is just so light for the technology and so easy to carry around. If you can afford this lens then don't think twice about getting it. The switches are robust, the new aperture ring is strong and rigid to use but smooth to twist.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lighter and Sharper! I bought this lens about 6 months ago to replace the mark 1 version. First thing that hits you is how small and light it is vs the original version. Second thing is just how sharp the lens is. Compared to any other lens I’ve used this is so crisp. Hand holding it all day long is not an issue. Has all the usual buttons and options you expect on a GM lens. If you have the mark 1- upgrade now!i

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just Wow, stunning lens After purchasing this lens I was excited to try it out, once mounted on my camera (A7IV) I noticed straight away how light this lens was, the speed and accuracy of the focus is amazing, so quiet too and I absolutely love the aperture ring on the lens allowing you to choose aperture quickly, the focus and zoom rings are very smooth and the lens itself feels very well made. I also like that the lens barrel doesn't extend thus keeping its nice size and dust resistance. Ive not used it for my usual subject yet, that being landscape photography but I have been trying it out with my 1 year old son and the portraits you get with this is superb, super sharp on the subject with beautiful bokeh. I attached an image which has come straight from camera to show how stunning this lens works. I can image this is the perfect lens for a wedding or just portraiture in general, the macro side of it is also pretty impressive, you can get very close to a subject before the camera can't focus no more which is very helpful. Overall lens comes nicely packaged, great design and functionality from such a great lens, only moan I would have about the lens is that the tripod mount could be just a slightly bit bigger making it feel a little safer when holding it in hand and for tripod mount plates but that it a very very small thing to moan about. This Lens is a definite buy in my eyes and I'm glad I own this stunning piece of glass, I look forward to many years of taking photos with this lens

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great high quality lens Great lens, expensive but very happy with it. Solid built, high quality and pin sharp photos. I was looking at the F4 version due to the weight but when this mkii F2.8 was released it was significantly lighter than its predecessor so I took the plunge and I’m glad I did. It’s very easy to carry around all day and easily accessible features. If you are thinking about buying this lens then go ahead it is worth the money.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding lens made MUCH better This amazing lens was an upgrade for me - and well worth it. I used the previous model for years and produced impressive results during treks through Sicily, Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands. After experiencing this new model of an old standard at my local photography store, I ordered this new lens immediately. It has the same form, fit and function of the OSS I, but the OSS II is substantially lighter weight. I've tried the new lens briefly since I received it about a month ago and I am super impressed with the overall performance of the lens - not only is it lighter in weight, but the auto-focus seems to be much faster. Highly recommended whenever you need the 70-200 range. As a side note, with the light weight I can imagine paring this lens with my C7 in reserve/back-up for my A7R IV with a wide angle.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The lightest, quickest and sharpest lens in my bag I upgraded from the mk I which was a fantastic lens so expectations were high. The first thing you notice is just how light this lens is, it weighs practically nothing! Using it with my A1 is just such a combination of speed and sharpness and you really get to see why they needed to upgrade the mk I to accommodate for the A1's superior specifications. It's not cheap but definitely worth the upgrade in my opinion 100%.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing and SHARP!!! I had been renting the previous version for over a year. As I got closer to purchasing my own is when I noticed this one was coming out. I waited and added myself to a reserve list in my city. Once I got it I was able to put it to the test, Ive had it for only a couple of weeks. I have mostly done portraits with it and it is amazingly sharp and way lighter than the previous model. This is my first G-Master lens and I'm in love with the results I get when paired with my A1.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is a phenomenal lens Bought this a few weeks ago. Had been using the mkI. This one is so much lighter, faster, easier to use. With old one I used a monopod for football shots. No need with this. Handles low light and floods fantastically. Not cheap but so worth it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sony does it again! You can tell that Sony engineers worked hard on this lens. The optics are superlative, the focus is lightning fast even wide open and it is so light weight.. Using this lens feels like cheating.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My 'go to' lens for almost everything! I thought the Mk1 was good until I got the Mk2! Noticeably lighter in use, fab quality, I seldom use anything else. I use it for fast action sports, 50% of the time in low light so the wide aperture is very handy. With the Sony A7Riv & v I can get the reach by cropping and if I need to get closer for posed shots I just step back a bit to get it all in. I haven't needed to traipse around with other lenses or bodies for a long time - very happy :)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Stunning lens In spite of some poor reviews I thought that the Mk 1 version of this lens was pretty good but the Mk 2 version is in a different league and one the best lenses that I have ever used. While still no lightweight it is significantly lighter than the Mk 1 lens and the already impressive AF is now blazingly fast. Image quality is also now improved most noticeably in the corners. A remarkable piece of engineering and probably the best 70-200 available on this planet.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pretty much perfect Sony really knocked it out of the park with this lens. The weight saving over other 70-200mm f2.8 lenses was the biggest draw for me, but they've managed that with a lens that still feels top quality, is very sharp, has very nice bokeh and extremely fast and accurate autofocus. The only negative is the price, but to be fair it is in keeping with today's crazy prices for camera equipment.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sony 70-200 2.8 gm mk2 After moving from Nikon to Sony A1 along with Sony 24-70 2.8 gm mk2 and Sony 200-600mm lens. I felt it was time to include the new Sony 70-200 2.8 GM Mk2 well what can I say, super light, great build quality and superb rendition from the lens. Yes it's a fair bit of money but I feel money very well spent. I always use my Sony A1 with the sony battery grip and even then it is so light in the field. Focus acquisition is instant and remarkably silent, with tracking that matches the A1 for a match in heaven. If you are hesitating about buying this lens, just do it, I guarantee you won't be disappointed at all. S stands for Sony and S also stands for Stunning

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sticks like glue Bought to accompany the A1 to shoot League football. Version 1 was fine but not quite as good at acquiring focus and sticking to the subject. This is a tough ask when players in their shirts are running against a backdrop of supporters, many wearing similar colours. The GMv2 is amazing at doing this and worth the upgrade. Super sharp, fast focussing, great colour rendition and lighter… what’s not to like.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fabulous lens ! Pity about moderator on here. I recently purchased a Sony camera lens, and I must say, I am extremely impressed. The image quality is outstanding, with sharp details and vibrant colors. The lens is also very versatile, allowing me to capture a wide range of subjects with ease. The build quality is top-notch, giving it a durable and professional feel. Overall, I highly recommend the Sony camera lens for anyone looking to elevate their photography game. As a female photographer shooting women, I think it's a good lens. However, my post was moderated, and someone deemed my pictures inappropriate. Interestingly, Instagram had better moderation than Sony, as they did not find the images problematic. Nevertheless, this lens takes great pictures of women, whether showing less or more skin. I still keep my Canon 29-300 lens, which has been doing the job for the past 10 years. P.S. My photos have been on the covers of big magazines, and I “apologize” to the Sony moderator for disagreeing that women in lingerie are inappropriate.
