Very light weight and high quality lens
The upgrade from the previous version that I used before in all aspects. It is light weight, high quality and can share lens filters (82mm) with the standard GM zoom lens. Bringing this lens to any travel or hiking is not as stressful as before thanks to its compact design.

Worth the wait.
Owned a 16-35mm f4 Zeiss for almost 10 years. Was my main travel lens and it was excellent. Came close to buying the Gen 1 GM 16-35mm lens but found it too big, heavy and front balanced on my A7r and then my A7R3 body.
Glad that I waited for this Gen 2 version of this 16-35mm f2.8 GM lens.
Incredibly compact and feels light weight. It is only a few grams heavier than the f4 Sony Zeiss 16-35mm which I find incredible. Optical quality for a zoom everything that I was hoping for on a GM lens. Sharp from corner to corner, even from f2.8. Great colour and contrast. Quick and silent and accurate focusing. Only 1 criticism is that is seems to suffer with quite marked lens flare when the sun is bright in the frame.

I love my first G-master lens
I was hesitant in between 3 different lenses and ended up with this masterpiece. I can't have all the features from all the 3 lenses, but I'm happy with my choice. I wanted to have an astrophotography, a street art and one for landscapes and this lens wasn't cheap, but I have pretty much all I wanted and I only have to carry one lens with me.

Superb
This lens is so sharp you could shave with it! The 16-35 GM II delivers stunning clarity across the frame, weighs less than you’d expect, and makes landscapes look like they were shot by someone far more talented than me. If you’re on the fence — stop faffing about and buy it. You won’t regret it.

Big Upgrade From Mark I
This is a big upgrade from the Mark I that I used extensively for years as my main Sony lens. The Mark II is considerably smaller and lighter, with much faster, silent focus and a significant improvement in close-focusing ability. One thing I haven't seen mentioned in reviews is the beautiful bokeh at F2.8, especially in closeup shots: it is worthy of a prime lens making it an even better all-in-one travel lens. It isn't noticeably sharper than the Mark I but that wasn't lacking in this respect so it just maintains that high standard.

The Travel Lens of Choice
Dear fellow phographer and technology admirers.
I like to upload picture but I shoot with A7R4 or Alfa 1. Hence file size are big and could not upload. Low grade file size cannot justify a genuine review.I really liked this lens.Light, smaller, superb picture quality, sharp and great contrast. Corner to corner uniformity. I did not face purple glare and one sided vineatting as reported by many. I might be licky with my copy. Only thing I notice is barrel distortion of verticle length. Although its correctable. I would give 4.5* due to this reason. Finally what would I recon.BUY yes go for it. its worth it.

Silky smooth
I have used this lens a couple of times for a video now, and it is a joy to work with. The zoom ring, and the focus ring are silky smooth. It is also notably lightweight, which is a good thing for my gimbal.

A Stellar Lens That Delivers, But at a Premium Pri
The SEL1635GM2, FE 16-35mm F2.8 GM II, is an absolute gem. Its fast aperture and superb performance make it a versatile tool for both photography and videography. The image quality is nothing short of stunning, with sharpness across the frame and excellent control over aberrations. The lightweight design is a bonus, making it a joy to use on longer shoots.
The features packed into this lens are well worth the investment—it truly delivers on all fronts. My only wish is that it were a bit more affordable, but considering its quality and capabilities, it’s still a fantastic value. Highly recommended for professionals and serious enthusiasts alike!

great lens on a7r3
I wanted a wide angle lens for landscape photography, the attached images were taken on my first outing just to try it out, I’m amazed at how sharp the lens, the image of the cropped date from the original image hopefully shows this. The lens is well build, lightweight and great to handle on my A7r3.

Sadly terrible quality control
Unfortunately 2 copies of the lens had serious issues. First was soft on lower left at 35mm and 2nd was soft in both lower corners at 16mm so both returned. Good upgrades from the mk1 in terms of size and weight plus addition of aperture ring especially if you shoot video. In the end I decided to keep my mk1 lensed couldn't recommend due to bad quality control

Fantastic lens, pricey though
Bought this lens a few weeks ago to replace a 16mm 1.8 and a few other primes. It's really excellent, very sharp in mid-field and pretty good in the corners as well. Distortion is minimal, and the size and weight of the lens is very much in keeping with portability. The major downside though is price- with such good quality lenses now appearing from the likes of Viltrox and Tamron, Sony are going to need to adjust their thinking on pricing if they don't want to lose market share to these new competitors

New to this lens
I bought this lens as part of an overall camera and lens upgrade. I have struggled to find a user manual that enables me to understand quickly how to get the best out of the lens for different picture types.
Nowhere on the Sony site does it give usage guidance.
