Not intuitive to use.
This was purchased as a small camera to take on holiday so I don't have to constantly clog up my phone with general holiday snaps. As is the common practice these days, the instruction manual is online so not easy to read at all when you are on the go. All other cameras I've used in the past have been intuitive to use and I've maybe looked at the manual for something specific. This one is not the same and so I just 'point and shoot' and get what I get. The charger does not fit easily into the socket and I shall be returning it to store to see what they think about this. Also, the deal clincher to purchase this camera was the wifi: it's really complicated to use and so I will probably never use it.

A true compact
I neede a real pocket camera with acceptable picture quality. After reading some reviews I chose this one and am not disappointed so far :). The focusing works good and fast. The only thing I miss is the possibility to erase files (photos) on SD card from computer when camera is connected.

Size doesn't matter!
Wow - I wanted something a little more versatile than my iPhone camera and this fits the bill exactly. I'm already taking good quality photos with it. With dimensions close to my iPhone, it fits neatly into my pocket or "man bag".
For me, the outstanding feature is the way it "talks" to my phone - a couple of clicks and my camera images are seamlessly transferred to my iPhone and iPad. Furthermore, and I hadn't anticipated this feature, the photos appear immediately in my iPhone/ iPad photos so I can then edit them and share with family and friends within minutes of snapping away. As you can tell, I'm delighted with this camera.

Sharp images and lightweight
We wanted a genuinely pocketable compact offering a reasonable zoom, to replace our Canon Ixus 170. There are very few cameras available which are slim and light enough to slip into a pocket -- most are about an inch (25 mm) thick, whereas this is just 21 mm, slightly slimmer than the Ixus 170. The picture quality is good from edge-to-edge, with no obvious vignetting, whereas the Ixus is very soft and shows bad colour fringing around the outer 20% of the image, even with shots taken at f/10 on a Caribbean beach in full sunlight.
But we were disappointed that the Sony managed to pick up a gouge on its view screen after the first day's gentle use, whereas the Canon's is more robust although we've had it more than a year. The Sony's battery/SD card cover is much more flimsy, and might suffer from repeated use. The wi-fi system is hard to set up so we prefer to just remove the SD card to transfer images. The Sony's 10x optical zoom is more limited than the Canon's 12x but still useful. The arrangement of buttons on the back is not ideal -- it's possible to hit the Play button when zooming, for example.
Picture quality at 100% has a processed appearance with shots taken at higher ISO ratings, but in general the low-light performance is good compared with other compacts, even larger cameras costing somewhat more.
As always, writing reviews after just a short period of use is a bit pointless -- it would be better if the companies contacted us after several months, when the real niggles start to show up!

Small size makes this camera very usable.
A good choice if you want a very compact unit which takes better quality photos than typical mobile phones. 10x optical zoom is a great feature which works well. I also liked having a separate button for taking videos versus stills; it avoid having to fumble around with mode changes.
The Wi-Fi connectivity could be improved as I disliked the "Play Memories Home" software that seem to be needed to connect camera to PC. I removed this over complicated and confusing bloatware, preferring to keep a simpler WiFi connection when needed. I did like the WiFi connectivity to my mobile phone which allow camera to be remotely controlled.
I can recommend this camera for overall performance and usability.

Great pics & vids BUT WiFi doesn't work
I purchased this camera in April 2016. Had it for a month. It takes great shots in low light, has many Scene modes, video is smooth and clear (+ even audio can be heard during playback on the camera itself). And the zooming is spot on!
However, it fails to transfer files to a (recognised) nearby device via WiFi, and this was one of the main reasons why I bought this particular camera... I have a Sony Xperia Z5, but won't send to each other after connecting. That is dissapointing.

Pocket size and easy to use
The make (Sony) was the main influence when I first looked for a new camera. On investigation it was small enough to fit in my great pocket and with a good range of features for everyday photos. Now that I have used it for a while an very happy with the purchase, did not go for the lowest cost.

I made a mistake buying the upmarket model with a bigger sensor - it was too heavy and bulky - so I changed it for this little compact model which is perfect and does all the things I want to do - snap the grandchildren and our cat and outings. Always handy and never a burden. The zoom length is not as good as some, but I'm really pleased with this little Sony.

Disposable camera
I bought this and just outside warranty, the meory card will pop out. You can take photos, and not realise they are not being captured. Sony minimum charge on repairs for cameras is the same as cost new - so built in obsolescence!!
Probably poor after care is not only Sony, but you do expect better from them.

Takes a good picture
I bought this camera to replace a previous Sony Compact which had failed.
The camera takes good quality pictures and the battery life is reasonable. The zoom is excellent although the zoom out control also has a function to switch to another mode which it keeps doing when you don't want it. This is quite a big negative point. There is very little shutter lag. The auto focus is good. A macro function would be useful to me. My old camera had this but it has gone missing on modern ones. The construction is a bit flimsy but it is light. A padded carrying case is essential.
The camera only comes with minimal instructions. You have to read the rest on the internet. I think some more information should be provided.
The WiFi connection worked well for me but the Play Memories Home software you are recommended to download is absolute dross. It adds startup processes which hog your computer resources and are totally unnecessary. To make matters worse they are given misleading labels so it is hard to spot them to stop them running. The software has a range of other features I don't want. Something much more basic is what is needed. Connecting via the USB cable is just as easy and is much faster.
Over all, it's a good little camera and does what I want which is to be small and portable and to take a reasonable picture.

Brilliant intelligent camera.
Very small, neat and well made. The Superior Auto seems to do it all brilliantly, handling most situations and selecting the right settings automatically. So much so that I am not sure if any of the other still picture modes will get used. I would happily sacrifice some of these extra modes for just one mode at the other end of the scale, ie., a basic manual mode with RAW data format.

Excellent pocket camera
I am a keen photographer, and consequently I use a high end SLR with multiple lenses. BUT, I also need a small camera, pocket size, that I can take with me on occasions where the SLR and its paraphenalia would be cumbersome...meals out etc. I bought the Sony to update my pocket camera after testing a number of models from Nikon, Fuji, Olympus and Canon. Quite simply the Sony out performed all of the others by a significant margin, and yet was smaller than most of them. The picture quality is excellent, as is ease of use, speed of focussing, accuracy of metering etc. I am highly delighted with the results and so pleased that I bought this camera

Super camera!
I bought this camera to replace a Sony T70 which had served me well. Apart from its size, one thing that really attracted me to the Sony-WX220 camera, was its Wifi capability which allows me to transfer photos taken with the camera to my smart phone, as there is absolutely no comparison in quality! This was particularly pleasing when comparing photos taken with my WX220 on a recent weekend cruise with those of my friends, taken on their smart phones. And what's more? The movie quality is excellent!

This is an incredible little camera!!! You can take it out of the box, put in the battery and charge it, put in a memory card, sold separately, and start shooting. If you want to do many, many different types of photography the options are all there in the camera. This camera can do everything a much bigger, more cumbersome camera can do. I just slip this in my side pocket and I am always ready to take a picture if I wish and am not having to carry around a large bag of equipment. This camera would be an excellent choice for everyone.

I could not be more pleased.
I bought this before a trip to Portugal to supplement my bulky DSLR and was so pleased with it I left my DSLR behind. It has an impressive range of settings and features--I took many excellent photos in all light conditions with only one or two duds. I love the feel of it, the way it sits in my hand. Only quibble is that the printed instructions are frustratingly brief and it took me some time to work out how to access the various menus. Perhaps an extended users guide focussing on how the menus are organised on the website?

Nice camera but unreliable wireless connectivity
I have had this for a while now and I really like the size, image quality, ease of use. However for a wifi enabled camera, I am not impressed with that side of it for the following reasons:
- the set up is clunky and complicated, unnecessarily so
- it does not work every time and often fails in the middle of download. A cable frankly would be better.
- There is no cloud upload functionality. I would like to see upload functionality directly from the camera to Dropbox, iCloud, Google Drive etc. Then it would start to be really useful and connected.
So in summary, camera is nice but wifi is underdeveloped

I have only had the camera for a couple of weeks so haven't got used to all the features yet. However, the photos I've taken already have turned out well. I just wish the manual had come with it. I've downl;oaded it but it's far too big to print out. It's a bit of a nuisance having to keep referring to it on the computer.

Great little camera
I bought this as a camera that I could carry around in my pocket. Size wise it is perfect and you hardly notice it is there.
Picutre quality is good, allowing for the sensor size, though it does struggle in low light, high contrast situations with moving subjects (such as at indoor music concerts).
Menu and functions are well laid out and reasonably intuitive so that you do not have to refer to the user manual to find things.
The viewing screen is excellent and whilst not as good as a proper view finder it does its job really well.
Some of the buttons (epecially the zoom) feel 'plasticy', though I have had no problems so far.
All in all it does exactly what I bought it for.

Smashing Pictures from such a Tiny Camera
I bought two new cameras to take on holiday to Florida because I didn't want to have to carry my Bridge camera around all the time. I bought the Nikon S33 specifically to take photos and video underwater as well as some regular holiday snaps and I bought the Sony WX220 for the majority of the donkey work (ie everyday holiday snaps and videos). The Nikon let me down badly - it overwrote every still shot I took and only produced about 50 seconds of underwater video, though it did produce about 8 minutes of totally blank and silent video. Oh how I wish the WX220 had been usable underwater. The WX220 takes sharp clear photographs, is small enough for carrying in the pocket of your shorts and is pretty good all round for various effects. Absolutely enamoured with it, a super easy to use point and click Cybershot camera. I also found that because it adjusts so well to the lighting conditions I never used the flash once.

good camera with a few fatal flaws
the size and picture quality are excellent for my use. I like that it charges from a standard micro usb cable, so I don't have to worry about that. BUT. the battery/sd card door pops open frequently on it's own and now the charge port door won't stay shut. these have only been a minor inconvenience so far, but I'm afraid that i'll lose the battery or sd card and that dirt will get inside or the door will break off completely or fail to latch at all. overall, I believe that will be the death of the camera. also, I find it odd that I can't delete pictures on the camera from the computer while it's plugged in. you have to go into the camera and manually delete them there.

I wanted a very small pocket camera and after reading many technical reviews it was obvious the Sony WX220 was the best one. Excellent Camara
Good value for money, easy to use, small and easy to put in your pocket.
Purchased just before going on holiday and used default settings other than reducing resolution. LDC screen was satisfactory even in sunlight. Only used small " How to use instructions " and obtained good results. Selecting auto or no flash was easy and had to do on several occasions. The X10 optical zoom was brilliant and gave good results but I found the operation a bit too course. Maybe there is an adjustment for this control that I shall investigate.

A Good Compact Camera
I bought this because of its WiFi function so that I could send photographs to my tablet very quickly. It does that very well. For me, where photography is really only for the recording of family events, this camera works fine. My only criticism is the instruction leaflet. Sony refer the user to the Internet for the information. The result is a lengthy document that is far too complicated. A simple instruction booklet with the camera would be far better.

Packs A Lot Of Punch
This 18 mega pixel camera packs a lot of punch. It takes simply beautiful pictures. The range of features this camera packs in are simply brilliant. Despite what other reviews have said, I found the menus quite easy to use and navigate through. I also love the fact that it's easy to transfer pictures from the camera to my Xperia Z1 smartphone via the PlayMemories Mobile Remote App. If you have a smartphone with NFC, then it's as simple as touching the phone and camera together and that's it. I also found that connecting the two together via Wi-Fi was just as easy. Also, controlling the camera via my smartphone was just as good, with only minimal lag/delay.
I have yet to use the camera for video recording, but I have no doubt it will not disappoint me. I am far from being a professional photographer, but I have taken some shots with this camera that have made people ask me if I am. For a good lightweight camera that takes excellent quality photos, then the WX220 is not to be overlooked. I have attached a couple of snaps taken using the WX220 on a recent visit to a local nature trail.

I bought this camera mainly because it was small and ideal when on vacation if you want to travel light. My only minus point is that most people that buy a camera in this category don't want 100's of options. You may not have used the camera for 6 months and when you take a photo you need the most common options at a touch.

Great little camera
I bought this last month as a replacement for a digital camera that I'd had for about 8 years. The photos it takes are really vibrant and good quality and there are loads of different shooting modes for different situations. It's easy to use and is really small so doesn't take up loads of space in your luggage. The only thing I didn't like about it was the panorama mode - the first two times I used it half the photo came out as a grey box and then after that it wouldn't even work at all but apart from that it's a great camera.

Love all the things this camera can do. Main favourite is being able to send photos directly to my phone/computer super quick without using a wire. Can share my photos to my friends and family whatever I’m doing almost instantly which is a great feature.
The camera quality is great and love that you can edit the type of camera quality you want for different things. Ie. You have a portrait selfie feature which heightens the quality of photos of family and friends.
The camera is very light so no hassle to hold and quickly snapshot something on the go.

Tiny but efficient
It's automatic, no real user input despite the choice of mode, but it does what I want, which is to give me a better picture then I can get with my phone without having to take my big SLR on a walking holiday. It's got a proper optical zoom, takes a high capacity sd card, battery life is acceptable. The images are crisp with good colour rendering, in short it does what it says on the box. It's a decent little camera at a sensible price.

Shirt pocket camera that produces great results
I value the fact that this camera can go with me everywhere and is ready to shoot in just seconds. I have also used features such as the 10-second delay to get myself into group photos. The 10x optical zoom and image stabiliser work really well with the auto-focus, producing pin-sharp images most of the time - even in poor light. Other cameras have frustrated me by delaying a snapshot after I press the trigger, so the moment is missed. This doesn't happen nearly so much with the Cybershot WX220. I have also made use of this camera to record an hour-long children's performance in HD with stereo sound track - almost professional quality.

The WX220 is a great all-round compact camera that easily slips into a pocket. it has a wide range of features that would befit a much larger camera. The only criticism I have is that it is susceptible to dust ingress which is very noticeable when using the zoom feature, especially on a bright background.

Features not available
It is not until the item is purchased, opened and being set up for use that an expected online feature is found to be no longer available for use. This should be flagged up with Sony agents, as a correction on the camera instructions, packaging and in all Sony websites which should provide this up to date information on the product before a sale is made.
The result is that wi-fi and photo editing need additional solutions.

This is an 18 megapixel camera but the quality of the pictures is not nearly as good as my 16 megapixel Nikon D7000 but for such an inexpensive and tiny camera I am very pleased indeed. Compact camera
Bought this camera without knowing there was no manual of how to work all the features enclosed. Phoned Sony and was told to look online and download the manual from there. There are over 100 pages to this manual and can't possibly take this on holiday with me, if I had known there was. I manual with it I would NOT have purchased it

Disappointed from Dover
I was given this as a Christmas present. While the camera function itself is great, with quick, clear, bright pictures I'm not so impressed with the rest of the product.
For example, the camera buttons are fiddly and the download access port cover is cheap. However the worst aspect are the instructions; I'm a big fan of quick start guides, but with a complex piece of kit like this, a lot more thought needs to be given to getting the right balance between providing limited info, and providing enough. In this case I felt there wasn't enough info, and when I tried to get the instructions from elsewhere (e.g. the Sony Web Page) I couldn't (and still haven't) been able to get sufficient guidance.

Brilliant photos
I havent had this for very long, but so far I am very impressed with the photos. And it is so small and easy to have in a handbag. The only downside is there is no user manual with it, which I do like to have rather than reading online.

Unremarkable camera
I've been using this camera for 2 weeks and have found it quite hard work to use and to download photos and videos to a laptop. There are lots of "scene" options for taking pictures but I'm not very impressed with the picture quality with all options, admittedly I need to use the camera more but I was expecting better quality pictures for a product of this price. The "Play Memories" software is very buggy, takes a long time to download pictures to a laptop and was problematic with videos. I tried to find instructions for the camera online but only found a very basic sheet, it's not comprehensive enough for users who haven't bought a Sony camera before. It's not clear how to get the most out of this camera which is frustrating. I like the fact that the camera is small and compact. I doubt I would buy another Sony camera.

Good pictures - poor controls
I'm very pleased with the size, weight and quality of the pictures. However the size does make the controls difficult to operate but my real concern is that pictures should be downloaded by wi-fi and I simply cannot get this to work so I have to connect by a pretty flimsy connection and I worry that the lid will break. The huge number of picture modes available seem to me to be far more appropriate to much larger camera and I can really not envisage it being used much on anything but Auto.

Great little camera
Only had it a few weeks but I am very pleased with it so far. It fits nicely into a pocket or my handbag when not in use. I particularly like the panoramic shot facility. My only minor gripe is that the battery has to be charged in camera. I would have preferred a stand alone charging unit. Otherwise, great.

Great small Sony pocket camera
I bought this small camera a couple of weeks ago, having looked on the web for small pocket size camera with powerful zoom and good quality built. Amongst many contenders, this one caught my eye with its impecable design, good parameters in both digital and optical zoom, wifi capable, amazing file transfer options, long lasting battery life (still to be tested to its full potential).

Good all round compact camera
Bought this when I returned the Sony DSC W800 which had poor resolution and colour saturation. This cost about £90 more but I'm glad I made the swap and the WX220 excels in those regards. Would be better if it had a finger grip on the front rather than being totally flat but it's such a light camera it's a minor issue. Very difficult to find out how to work the camera functions as there doesn't appear to be a manual, having to refer to a web page for information instead, which is not necessarily convenient.

Pocket sized everyday snapper
Only owned for 2 weeks. So far found it easy to use giving excellent results. Small size, easy to carry in pocket yet has 10x zoom which is brilliant. For a camera of its size the features it offers are very good and great for the casual snapper.
