Superb TV
Recently bought my 42” OLED and absolutely delighted. The picture is superb and, with the whole screen being a speaker, do not feel the need for a sound bar.
Controls are so easy to use but did take a bit of setting up to get it right.
Great buy.

Great Upgrade
I’ve had the tv for just over a week and the improvement in pictures clarity and sound quality in comparison to my old set is marked.
It worked well straight out of the box with very few adjustments needed to match our tastes.
So far so good.
We also bought a Sony soundbar and, whilst it was fairly straightforward to connect, the centre speaker sync lead skicks out of the side of the tv and spoils the look of the set. A shame because it works well. Overall, a very good setup. Pity about the design hookup.

Barely an OK TV!
Over the past thirty+ years , all our TV's have been Sony's. However in 2016, we purchased a Sony TV that was a disaster (model KD43X8307C). It's slow interaction between tv and remote, poor menu navigation and dropping WiFi was a problem so we decided to buy a new TV. We used a reputable supplier and was told that the Sony A90K TV was a "quality TV" with great reviews. We found that setting up the TV was laborious and the picture quality was ok in 'vivid 'mode. However, it was missing certain apps that could not be uploaded like UKTVPlay. An additional streaming device was required to view the missing apps which was not ideal considering the cost of the TV. So again we find that the Sony TV has not met our expectations!

Good sound, almost great picture.
I've had this TV for a couple of weeks now and have decided I don't need a soundbar. But I'm not a music freak. Other's needs might be different. The picture is very good, but I wish I could turn the brightness up just a smidgen more. But it's not a gamechanger. All in all I'm pleased with it but, at the price, I should be!

Fantastic picture quality.
I bought the Sony A90K Bravia to replace my existing Sony Bravia TV which is still working perfectly well and will use in another room. The A90K is an upgraded version and has some additional functions to that of my existing tv. In my experience, Sony TV’s are amongst the best available.

Vibrant colours and crisp sound quality
I've had my Sony Bravia XR-42A90K for less than a month, but I can quite honestly say that it's the best viewing experience I've had from a TV. My old LG was fine but this is truly amazing. The sound and picture quality are second to none. The colours are sharp and vibrant while the sound is both dynamic and powerful, especially from such a relatively small unit (42inch). The experience from Currys in Chesterfield (especially Manu - the salesman) was great and the TV viewing experience thereafter is a true pleasure to watch and listen to. It truly is a brilliant package to have in my lounge.

Great product
I purchased this product about a month ago and are pleased with the superior quality of the picture. The sound is very good as well. Telephone service support has been prompt and excellent. I regret it does not have any split screen capability (picture in picture or side by side). The remote could be enhanced with a number pad as opposed to the number button and subsequent laborious on screen number selection protocol.
This TV has increased my viewing enjoyment and was a worthwhile purchase.

Sony Remote
This is the second Bravia television we’ve bought and while the picture and the sound is still good the remote control is far too fiddly, it has been reduced in size the buttons feel tacky and clunky and are far too close together. There is a second remote in the pack which has better buttons but these are so multi functional they are difficult to use. Should you have ANY problem with arthritis or similar examine the remote before purchase.
Also unless you are happy to sign in to Google many of the advanced features are unavailable for example trying to sign in to Amazon Prime or Apple TV. It is increasingly hard to find any advanced media product without having to sign in to one of the marketing trackers. If you value privacy ask this question of the dealer.

Great Sony Bravia
We have had Sony Bravia TVs for many (many!), years. The older ones in the spare room and kitchen no longer support some apps, so we decided to update our main one to avoid this happening and to get the Apple TV app. We are extremely pleased with this model after having it for 3 weeks. Superb picture quality and the new innovative sound system is excellent.

Excellent upgrade
I bought this a couple of weeks ago to replace a very old and smaller Sony Bravia. I have limited space and this only just fits. It has far more features and negates the need for the Amazon Prime remote. All things are better - picture quality, sound (no need for a sound bar), larger and easier to read text and more. So far I am very pleased.

Fast and Efficient
This Sony Bravia is all I hoped for: Great picture quality, good sound with plenty of volume. Best of all it's a very fast responder compared to my old Sony Brevia and straightforward to use. I also liked its stand - so much better than legs. Very happy with it. However it's dramatically more expensive than an average smart TV.

Easy of use and set up. Picture Good but I wouldn't say excellent you need to sit direct in front of screen or you get green hue on side viewing. To get a better picture you need SKY Stream which I have and have all channels in HD or UHD where possible. I like the remote control which lights up buttons.

Outstanding OLED TV
I bought my 42inch OLED a week ago. I spent quite a while weighing up the options. The picture quality and sound are both amazing. I love the low stand too, very stylish. The Youview system is excellent, much better than my LG OLED TV operating system, which is rather clunky by comparison. Google TV was easy to set up and all the Apps were soon uploaded to the TV, just have all your passwords handy. It isn't the cheapest 42 inch OLED, but it has been worth every penny. I was able to extend the Warranty to 5 years through the Sony website. It's been a long time since I have owned a Sony TV, but I am so glad I bought this TV. Perfect!

XR-42a90k - excellent video and audio
I own this device since nearly 2 weeks now. At a first glance the video and audio capabilities are excellent. BUT! From the first day on I face problems with the TV. During initial configuration I get an error that the SUB-Tuner does not receive signal while the main tuner works fine. (Astra SAT 2 wire configuration) With a premium device in my hands I expect premium support quickly solving any problem. But no chance the support experience is the worst I ever faced. They know how to handle the knowledge base but obviously they do not have any technical background. Reading Sony community threads you'll find many threads complaining about bad support.
Another topic is the EPG (for SAT) only keeping a few hours of program information and the nightly feature loading EPG content seems not working as expected. The next day I still see only a few hours and even not for all prgrams.
If you are lucky you get a device without any problems and are not keen on EPG features you will get an excellent TV.

Great picture and sound but tricky to set up.
Bought the 42 inch version in late December.
Terrific picture and clear sound which was vital for us oldies!
It was tricky to set up as we have a talktalk set top box. This seems to require us to use two remote controls. The talktalk one for turning on box and channel changes. The Sony one for volume control and turning on TV.
A additional peciar problem was the TV kept turning itself on mostly at 4am which initially we thought we had intruders! I solved this by turning off Sony Bravia sync. Next time I'll get John Lewis guys to install as instructions are v poor.

We bought this to replace a Sony Bravia from 2008. It had given great service but as a 26 inch tv it was definitely beginning to show its age. Great with just a little bug
As expected from an OLED screen, the blacks are perfect.
The sound is very good even without a sound bar.
No problem adding apps through Google Play (just a little hard to find Google Play).
However, on the cons side, I didn't find how to disable the music payed by the screensaver that plays music (sometimes it's nice but not always) and especially for CI+ card users, the socket is not deep enough so the card protrudes quite well from the left side of the screen.
For TV installation, I recommend to be two because the screen and the socle are heavy.

Wish I’d gone for an LG
The Sony TV was sold to me as it was supposed to have superior sound quality though later found to be problematic when connecting a sound bar - poor control interface. Badly advised at point of sale that the TV relies on Google tv interface for most of the functions available. As Google tv is so bad, the tv has been resigned to the spare room - now looking for a proper TV…

Great tv, absolutely love it, however with the price tag and no bravia cam included and only 1 usable hdmi 2.1 port because the soundbar uses the other are my biggest gripes. Ps5 takes other 2.1 port and there is only hdmi 2.0 ports left for my gaming laptop, given the fact that this tv is 600 euros more expensive than lg equivalent with sane oled panel is absurd at best

Very expensive, but worth every pound....
This is the best tv I've ever owned. There are two most important things I looked for before settling on this sony model.when purchasing a tv it's no good having a tv with a brilliant picture and a poor viewing angle and it's no good having a good viewing angle and a poor picture, this tv has a brilliant picture with an excellent viewing angle, it also has excellent sound, I am of a certain age where my hearing is not as good as it used to be, you can set the sound exactly to your hearing requirements because it has an adjustable graphic equaliser, and the way I've got it set up I can hear it clearly even at low volume ...My last comment is that it has loads of fine tuning adjustments for sound and vision. Well done Sony, I've never enjoyed watching so much since buying this tv. JPR

Purchased to fit a small English cottage….
Having had larger models and full surround sound I was EXTREMELY sceptical about the sound quality of this product. I had no worries over the picture quality of Sony products and must say this screen is Amazing.
The sound: coming from the screen area is honestly quite AMAZING the tonal balance and natural bass levels are quite considerable given its size.
I was thinking that I would have to supplement with a full sound system.. I DONT.
The only tiny snag is the actual volume level could be a tad higher.. but no concern really.
A GREAT product.

Lots of problems
After an initial period with no problems several issues arose. Firstly we couldn’t get the Live TV icon to engage without turning the TV off and on several times. Next the subtitles button on the remote would not work. We changed the remote but it made no difference. Ringing Sony helpline was awful at the first attempt - the person at the end of the line was unintelligible and also her computer connection wasn’t working. She left us with an e mail and a promise to ring on a few days which she failed to do. Only when we got another operative - Mahmoud, did we get help involving a long process of a factory reset conducted over the phone - quite scary. Not impressed with the TV so far.

Amazing picture and great build quality
Bought this in the Boxing Day sales, should have bought it earlier in the year for the World Cup, my mistake. Was concerned when unpacking that there was no plastic film to protect the screen, though it was well packaged in the box. Managed to do the unpacking and assembly on my own but would recommend getting another pair of hands.
Build quality appears to be very good, this model came with two remotes the smaller one being backlit. I used this one for the setup of the TV which was fairly straight forward with the possability to skip some options till later. Picture quality out of the box to me is stunning, have only altered a couple of settings to my taste. Turned off power saving mode and in standard picture mode turned brightness down to 40. The proccesor seems to do a great job in the background no matter what you are watching, unable to comment on gaming as not a gamer. Standard TV programs are upscaled very well, not had any issues as yet. Appears to be very good with sports and motion as some tv's I looked at caused me some motion problems, nothing so far with this TV. Thought it came with Freeview Play and Freesat TV guides but all I can find so far is Youview which for me is not very clear on screen, should have done more research. The old Panasonic we had, used Freeview and was very easy to understand and use, all depends on what your use to.
The sound quality for our room size is more than adequate and will not be needing a soundbar.
There are loads of options to adjust the sound and picture quality for your own preference though most are able to be left alone.
Have already had friends in and they are very impressed and considering this in a larger screen size.
Wish it had been cheaper but then im a Yorkshireman and it probably will be in a few months time.

Replaced our old Sony Bravia with the new OLED & what a difference, quality of colour & sound is outstanding. Only issue that we have is that you can't manually turn the TV off without switching off at the wall on a night & we also have a green LED light that comes on spasmodically for no apparent reason.
Other than that we are extremely pleased with our purchase

Ah But
I am quite pleased with Sony Bravia but can’t help the nagging question of “is this worth what I paid for it”.
I have a quite expensive piece of kit supplied with a somewhat sketchy set of instructions in place of anything even pretending to be a user manual..
So my review probably is a bit carmudgeonly because Sony didn’t feel it necessary to explain exactly how to benefit from the impressive range of innovations cunningly concealed by the absence of instructions.
Strange but there y’go.

First impressions
Whilst I am impressed with the picture and sound quality I absolutely hate the menu interface. The TV comes with two remote control with no information about why it needs tow and how to use them. I have to find out what Youview is all about. I have always liked the simplicity of Freeview. The whole setup is aimed at trying to get you to pay for content you didn't know existed and probably never wanted. Why not a simple interface for terrestrial channels and then a button to press to take you to a menu for web based content? The interface is clunky and not fit for purpose.

Easy to set up and superb performance
Bought 3 weeks ago. Delivery was excellent, although no notification re delivery date or time, lucky we were at home ! but delivery very smooth. Ordered and delivered in two days. Set up was very easy, sound bar connection simple and links and connections automatic. Picture and sound quality are superb. Still playing but so far so good.

Far too complicated
I bought my A90K Bravia in store, using a £299 discount from John Lewis resulting from the in-warranty failure of a Samsung HD TV. Setting up the Bravia took several hours, mostly because even someone like me with a background in broadcasting and tech-savvy could not fathom some of the technical language used in the on-screen registration process. Scanning Freesat channels was especially bad because I did not understand the terminology which applied to my basic Freesat dish. I did not and still do not like the heavy hand of Google in the channel availability. But two things stand out as reducing my enjoyment of the set. The first was the discovery that the highly technical sound set up which has sound coming through the screen and relates to movement resulted in an effect in which off screen voices sound compressed to anyone wearing a hearing aid. (Me and daughter in law) although we determined that when a soundbar is used this does not happen...hence the purchase of a £200 Bose TV sound bar. The other problem, two weeks in, was the failure of the subtitles. After some intermittent problems I lost subtitles on all live transmissions (Inc BBC drama and BBC News). I returned the TV to the store where a Sony rep did a complete re-set restoring subtitles. I now finally have the sound right, and subtitles and a really good picture. But I can't say I am happy with the purchase. It is far too complicated in set up and in use. My wife, a technophobe, hasn't a clue how to find programmes other than those in the TV Guide. I DO like the low profile stand and the cable masks at the rear.

Beautiful Picture, small in size
I have following founding:
1. Multilingual function is bad. It automatically switched to the addition sound channel. On the other end, not all users wanted to listen the additional sound channel. This function should have an option to cancel or set it manually
2. When optical sound output was connected with amplifier, TV speaker was automatically switch off. This is bad design. Please change to manual selection of sound output as a choice.

New TV set
Sorry to say that I am very disappointed. Not only The set stopped working after three weeks but the troubleshooting instructions were useless. Also, he technical department of John Lewis was not helpful and Sony technical department was the same. The on and off button is too small for this TV set as well. The old TV Sony waste 20 years without any problems!

Amazing quality picture!
I spent along time looking in shops at different TV options, I am a self confessed TV addict. So it was really important to me to get something high quality and with the very best picture.. I looked at other brands who were cheaper but wanted the best sound and picture. I love the movement of sound through the panel on the a Sony and the store I went to had a Sony rep who was able to show me the differences. I only wanted a 42” TV but didn’t want to compromise on specs, so to get something extremely high the was very important to me, the Sony hit all the bases for me in terms of not needing a sound bar and also getting that immersive picture quality. I also was sold on the remote control as its stunning piece of craftsmanship, compared to other brands that use plastic basic remotes. I also found it super simple to set up and use the smart apps.

Quality TV
Lovely looking TV which comes with a solid stand you can adjust with 2 height settings which enables you to accommodate a soundbar under the TV without obstructing the screen. Great picture quality and impressive sound without the sound bar. Very crisp voices, would be nice to have a little more bass. Easy to navigate through all the settngs with ample choice of picture quality and sound preferences. However, a little disappointed with the picture quality when watching football matches. Tried all available picture settings to try to tweek it but the players from a distance appear no sharper than my previous 12 year Toshiba TV. Comes with 2 controllers, one which has a mic for verbal commands to your TV which looks and feels solid. It takes an eternity to set up all your apps but once you are up and running everything runs smoothly. I eventually managed to locate the microscopic power button on the upper left hand side of the TV which you have to hold down for a few seconds before the TV turns off and am not sure whether this is any different than using the off button on the controller, as the TV doesn't appear to have a standby light indicator. Lacks instructions with regards to initial setting up. Comes with two 1cm thick booklets, each approx contains 5 pages on safety and very basic
setting up, the rest of the book is in other languages. Would highly recommend the A90X, very pleased.

Bravia A90K 42"
We have had this for TV for approximately 6 weeks now.
The picture quality is excellent and the audio is impressive for a TV without a sound bar.
However, the Guides are disappointing.
The standard guide is impossible to read from any distance on this smaller size of TV due to the small font and grey/white colour scheme which lacks contrast.
The YouView guide is a little better but difficult to customise and I have yet to find a way of setting it as the default guide
The screen format/width options could be improved with the addition of a zoom option that makes older programmes fill the screen without leaving black side-bars and the inherent danger of screen-burn.
The user manual/help system leaves a lot to be desired but there are some useful customisations available if you manage to stumble across them.

Exceptionally good TV
Purchased this TV a few weeks back and I am impressed with both picture and sound quality. Sound is obviously not as good as external speakers but is much better than other TVs with built-in speakers.
Picture settings have numerous adjustments to achieve life-like quality if you are inclined. Before purchase, I noted that many reviews marked this TV down for being too dim but, for our normal viewing of movies and dramas, we have brightness down to almost the lowest setting (with some room lighting on), so take those reviews with a large pinch of salt !

I love my Sony OLED , but it’s constantly losing interface with SkyQ which then needs to reboot to fix the issue , it’s too frequent to ignore also occasionally the sky image is just Blue ! So again reboot Sky to fix , hopefully there is a software update coming to sort it .
Also AppleTV app on mine is only AppleTV and not AppleTV+ so in app purchases are not possible and I need to use iPhone app for purchases , again a little frustrating. But as a TV and overall streaming experience the pictures are impressive.

Right size for our living room and good picture. Disappointed with no paper instructions which I think you need before switching on the tv. Instructions for fitting stand is far harder than you find online. No standby light and very small on /off button which the shop didn’t even know about. Difficulty in getting sky remote to work with tv and as we like to unplug the tv at night it takes an awful long time to come on in the morning. A lot of money for a reasonable tv

Great OLED TV with superb quality of picture. This combined with an excellent speaker system built into the screen makes the viewing experience a 'cut above the rest' for a TV of this size. It has a wide selection of built-in apps (others can be added) as well as a good selection of inputs including various specifications of HDMI 4K.
Overall whilst this set may seem a little expensive, it is certainly worthy of the five star rating that I have given it.

CLARITY OF SOUND & VISION
Love it. My wife and I were becoming increasingly dissatisfied with our old telly mainly because of the poor sound quality. To have a bigger screen, the acoustic screen, is perfect for us.

Good p[icture and sound - power cable too short
Bought from John Lewis after considering LG and Panasonic alternatives. I've been a lifelong Panasonic TV purchaser but the Sony picture and sound was excellent for the small sitting room we needed it for. They somehow manage to get the sound coming through the screen - works very well. My only issue is that the power cord is too short; we've located it on a wall and the cable is not long enough to reach the power socket so have to use an ugly extension lead. From what I can see, its not possible to replace the cord with a longer one so loses a point on design for that reason. Would have liked to use Spotify with the TV but the app is not available through Sony.

Brilliant TV, generally.
It is for the best part a brilliant TV. I bought it for Android, Chromecast, Record TV, OLED display, all at a smaller size than can normally be bought and on the whole it has not disappointed.
I was also enticed by the offering of Bravia Core. It is in the most part a good app, with some good films you can have for free. It has however crashed a few times and needs to be restarted at the mains, this seems to only happen during or immediately after using the Core app. I have started restarting the TV before using it as Google no longer allows you to Force Stop apps so a restart seems the best way and seems to work.
Also one of the features with Bravia Core is it's "Pure Stream" for best quality streaming which recommends a 125Mbps connection. And oh so frustratingly this TV provides you with only a 100Mbps ethernet port. Seriously! Always being told to use a wired connection for stability, so I do that, and then have this added obstacle. A premium product with a thoughtless thing like this just irritates me. Though I do get, not many others will be affected.
Also (again) as for the Core app, you can take the movies across onto the mobile app which used to work great, but recently that is having a load of problems. I hope this decline in the service does not continue as it has in the past with Sony; PlayStation movies which generally does not work on TV or mobile anymore, and it's predecessor which I can't remember the name of but disappeared. Core is genuinely good, if they only keep on top of it!

Wish I’d bought a Roku
I was seduced by the excellence of the display in the shop - which to be fair is pretty fantastic - but bears no relation to the sort of things I generally watch (I.e TV programmes), not really any better than my previous telly.
But my main gripe is the complicated user interface and lack of documentation. I took me over an hour of searching and a chat session just to find the setting to turn off the really annoying beeps. And as for finding Google play store, I gave up.
I have several Roku tvs so I know how user friendly a Ui can be.

Fantastic picture
Fantastic picture and sound is a good standard, though if I used as a primary tv I would probably link with soundbar. I use for ps5 mainly and it’s really perfect performance. I previously purchased an LG 42 Oled, though had to return it next day as their Bluetooth software is very bad. Thankfully no problems with Sony tv using my AirPods. I must advise I replaced the Sony Tv as I noticed 2 dead pixels upon box opening. Thankfully the replacement has been great so far.

Truly Outstanding
Maybe you are reading this having spent far too much time, like me, researching the best 42/48 inch TV? Is it worth paying the extra for the Sony A90K vs the cheaper LG. I’ve been doing this for over a year and finally decided on purchasing the Sony after a smallish discount Black Friday deal. For me and many other people I suspect this is a LOT of money for a TV. I had a really good Sony Bravia that was high spec 12-14 years ago. I kept asking myself will the picture and sound really be that much better (ie over £1K better?). Having now had the A90K for several weeks, the answer is ABSOLUTELY YES! It takes viewing to a whole new level. Yes it has ultra HD which is stunning, but accessing that across all the various platforms subscriptions can cost a lot more. I did trial Netflix UHD for the first month to see what it’s like (still have it too!) I watched Drive to Survive in UHD and it was mind blowing but you pay for it and I ask whether I would upgrade for all UHN content. It’s what the TV can render with HD and in some ways even more impressively with SD content. For example I watched the 1967 film classic ‘ The Graduate’. Watching on the Sony. It felt it like I was watching the film for the first time how the director had imagined it. I’m now embarking on watching more classics that have been transformed by this TV. I’m also a sport fanatic and for example watching football in HD with the motion control technology is much more immersive experience with the movement being handled far better than my old Sony. There’s so much detail in colour and contrast in everything compared to previous TV that makes all viewing feel new and more alive. Anyway, that’s probably enough for the picture. The deciding factor - especially vs the LG is the sound quality. I read how good it is in loads of reviews and had some doubts . I shouldn’t have - the sound for a flat screen is absolutely unbelievable. I had my old TV linked to an AV system with a centre and stereo speakers that are all of good quality. I watch films and some sports Thai way. But I don’t always want the surround sound experience when watching day to day tv - honestly who wants Masterchef in Dolby Sorround at 80 decibels on a Tuesday night? Therefore I often use the TV audio on the old Sony but this was flat and muffled. The incredible thing about the A90K is that it handles all audio so well - be it at low volume for normal TV watching to full cinema experience blockbuster films (Top Gun Maverick was fab!). I don’t live in a detached house so neighbours sound is a key and you can enjoy this tv and hear audio so clearly at any volume and across all broadcasted programmes.
So if you are like me, going back and forth deciding whether to buy or not, and are sad enough to still be reading my nerdy review, all I can say is take the plunge and buy the Sony AK90…now!
As a final note - I previously had a 40 inch TV. My wife doesn’t like big TVs or wall mounted ones particularly, so we went (I say we, I got the TV without telling her first!) for the 42 inch as have an alcove and table / cabint for it. Having seen just how good it is, it almost makes your yearn for an even more immersive full on experience and at times I fantasise about how good the 48 inch would be…! That said, it’s still blindingly good and the best £xxxx I have spent (I can’t disclose how much in case my wife comes across this review ??)

Very good picture
I have only had this tv for a few weeks and I am still coming to terms with it .
Overall its a very good set , minor niggles , if you use the eARC out to an amp the tv mic doesn’t work to speak to , ridiculous as that is, and the manual refers to the risk of screen burn if films have black bars top and bottom , or logos etc , which I thought was now overcome when I bought it , otherwise it’s very impressive, I haven’t tried the speaker because I feed it through the amp.
All the major apps are there , but Apple is only Apple TV and not totally Apple TV+ on my set anyway , so I cannot make purchases through the tv but have to use the phone app to overcome this , perhaps a software update will come soon to properly upgrade this.
Otherwise very happy with this TV the picture on standard setting is pretty impressive, I’ve not risked playing with the advanced settings .

The ultimate picture, sound and design, only.
Purchased in July 2023, I was prepared to spend high to achieve the ultimate picture, sound and design. It fulfills superbly in all three of these areas and I thoroughly recommend if seeking the ultimate, however that is where it ends.
For myself the product fails though in four areas. It is logical to assume this television will appeal to audiophiles and perfectionists, especially to those who maybe do not have gargantuan living rooms. This being my case the optional BraviaCam was purchased to perfect the picture even more and being USB2 rated this can be attached to either the USB2 socket on the side or the fast USB3 socket on the rear.
The sound is superb and for ourselves loud enough, though as any in-built speaker system couldn't be expected to deliver, a separate low-powered sub-woofer would be ideal but Sony only seems to consider it relevant as part of an entire sound system and/or soundbar at quite a price, especially if not requiring it or having a room where not easy to accommodate; with even the smallest soundbar, to obtain a sub-woofer, being too wide for any unit the TV is stood on that is not as wide as the TV itself. Internal speakers can not operate at the same time as any external speaker system that uses Bluetooth and the optical output does not of course vary the volume in synchronization with internal speakers. Sony inform that their stand alone SWF-BR100 sub-woofer, for example, is not compatible with this TV model.
As an Android 10 TV you are likely to be wanting to make full use of Apps and here you will quickly find the second failing, with the Internal Storage being very small, in fact 'penny pinchingly' mean in what is THE top premium product.
Using just one App that utilises a lot of storage in normal use, you will very quickly find notifications telling you that things can't update or be used properly or work unless you free up storage, highly frustrating and limiting.
The solution, which you have to hunt for, is to add additional memory using the fast USB3 rear socket. This would force plugging the BraviaCam into the side USB socket.
What if one wishes to record, as this is, after all, the ultimate TV? Well that requires an external USB SSD to be attached to the fast USB3 socket. This evidences the third problem as there is no other USB socket. Ah !!! I hear you say, why not just buy a USB Hub? Well have Sony thought of that? Presumably they have as they state they are NOT supported, of course, so one is scuppered.
So, on top of this a family member wants to show you some photos on a USB stick? What do you remove to do it? It's 2023 and this is a 2022 launched £1500 television, really well considered, NOT, by Sony.
My fourth issue is for the security conscious paranoid who wants the tightest security to protect their Home Network.
There are pro's and con's for the practice of hiding your WiFi Network SSID (broadcasted name) and I choose to hide both my 2.4GHz and 5GHz Networks and utilise personalised SSID's with 64 Digit HEX Passkeys.
Sony will tell you that this television WILL connect to a Hidden Network, BUT it may NOT. I have 38 pieces of equipment from 13 years old to a month old that ALL do and there is nothing that doesn't.
For over 4 months now I have been acting on everything Sony Customer Services have asked of me, from factory resetting my Netgear router and the TV itself on many occasions, trying a different router, waiting for now two TV Software Updates, moving equipment closer together, turning off all other WiFi in the house, trying minimal length SSID's and Passkeys etc. and STILL it will NOT connect to a Hidden WiFi Network; make the Network visible and it immediately will, restore the Hidden status and the connection drops.
Despite having evidenced IT competence Sony Customer Service arrogantly and patronisingly E-Mail:
"With reference to your enquiry regarding your Sony XR-42A90K, kindly note that, unfortunately, this still looks like a local issue.
We advise to change the router, or setup the Wi-Fi properly.
Kindly note that we do not see any problems on many samples tried, this points us to the local settings/environment issue".
So that's their solution, despite performing all Sony's requested troubleshooting over four months they should be interested to find out what this "local issue" is and if necessary replace the TV but instead they just reiterate already addressed ground.
In 2009 we changed from Sony televisions to another brand for what we deemed a matched quality but reputable Customer Service. Now in 2023 having moved back to Sony by starting with this television it will stop there, purely down to this last issue and their non-rectification of it.
So if you want the best picture, sound and design DO buy this and trust you do not need a hard to solve problem to be rectified by them, because sadly from my perspective their Customer Service seems unimproved since before 2009.

Almost three dimensional
I bought this Sony after being a Panasonic customer for many years. Our last Pansonic died after just 3 years use and was unfixable. Sorry Panasonic you lost me as a customer! Having done my online review homework I decided on either the Sony or an LG. Now I HATE with a vengence the LG ball tracking remote as do many other online reviewers. So Sony it was.
Set up was extremely easy, Freesat and Freeview not a problem. Picture quality is nothing short of sensational. Sound is good from the TV alone but I use an Orbitsound E30 soundbox which sounds amazing. I've been using the TV for nearly a month and I am always astounded by the clarity of the picture and the natural colours. The LG was just too in your face vibrant for my liking, prefering a more natural colour balance. Buy it you and i doubt you'll be dissapionted.

Primarily being used as a monitor
I bought this secondary to looking for a secondary monitor as I deal with multiple Excel spreadsheets daily. The 42 inch real estate offered was such a pleasant surprise and there is little to no latency between my iMAC17 and the TV. Text is as clear as others are stating, surprisingly so as I have read where on other TV monitors there was a tremendous amount of adjustments necessary. After finishing some late night work last week, I ventured to try it for its original purpose as a television and watched the movie Late Night. The colors were as brilliant as one would expect. Dual purpose achieved!

Plush
It is unfair to compare this product to my previous screen (a 15 y/o Aquos) but it is certainly an upgrade to go from an LCD screen to this OLED model.
I generally like the Google TV system. I do not like the motion smoothing features of any sort because they seem *overly* natural, and I think this tends to undermind the style of the camera work, oddly. The annoying part is that I seem to have to turn it off when I encounter a new app or configuration -- I can't just say "I don't want this ever".
Nevertheless, the screen resolution and color definition are fantastic, so on the whole I find it to be an excellent product.

This is the 42" TV I have anticipated for years
I bought an LG Nanocell 42" for my bedroom to upgrade an older Samsung TV a few months ago. It was good but I knew an OLED would be introduced to the market at some point. When Sony and LG 42" OLED was available for sale it was a matter of deciding which one to buy. After reading the reviews Sony was the TV for me. Yes it is expensive for a 42" but the picture quality is amazing. I later installed a JBL soundbar but the sound from the TV is very detailed. The backlit remote is great. Overall this is the 42" TV to buy if you want the best picture and sound.

Sony Excellence
I have had my tv for about a month and I am really pleased with it.
The colors, the picture quality and sound are all top notch.
Wifi and Bluetooth means less cables and clutter since it is connected wirelessly and at night I use my Bluetooth ear buds.

Sony OLED outstanding picture and sound.
I purchased this for a small bedroom after I already had gotten the LG version of this TV. With the LG, it required a sound bar because it sounded terrible. I didn’t want to sound bar in my bedroom so I decided to get the Sony because I know of the acoustic sound in the screen.
It was like night and day very pleased. Don’t need a sound bar and perfect for my application in the bedroom.

Best Visual TV I Ever Had Purchase
Got the Sony A90K 42" as a computer monitor and for desktop usage it isn't big jump in term of visual upgrade from my previous monitor.
However, the Sony Bravia Core is miles ahead of my Amazon Prime Video streaming quality that actually surprises me the most. The color vibrancy and the motion is much more seamless than the Amazon Prime Video. With the content available on Sony Bravia Core or any blu ray disc it is the best visual experiences I had in my life.
The built-in speakers actually not terrible by any standard, but it won't compete with the a dedicated home speaker setup. I am tempt to purchase the Sony soundbar in the future. I think Sony did a great job with this television for movies content. Haven't test out the gaming function, since I don't game.

42" A90K Do youself a big favor. Just go get one!
Obviously, I was not the first reviewer of this great TV. I based my purchase partly because of the reviews that were already praising this product. I read reviews of both the LG C3/C2 and the Sony A90K and was not completely sold on the Sony until I saw both LG and Sony side by side at BestBuy. The Sony has the edge in clarity probably because it is powered by its Bravia chip. But honestly, it is not that much of a difference. Knowing Sony's experience in building high-quality products that last a long time had me pull the trigger. The only thing I did not like was the stand that came with it. The very small star screws have different sizes and also the base is not that wide. I purchased a TV stand at Amazon and that solved the problem.
I might have paid $200 more than the LG C3 but, I don't regret it even just a bit on my purchase.
Up to this date, I really enjoy watching movies on this TV.

I bought my TV about 3 weeks ago and I couldn't be happier. The picture has settled down and looks great. I'm coming from a LED Sony x800h set and though I liked that set , there is no comparison to the OLED picture on the A90k. No buyers remorse here!

Hey, It’s SONY!!
We have an in home cinema room and have avoided a tv in our main living area since I completed my custom build 7 years ago. Well, our third son is deployed and we wanted to share the holidays the best way possible! After reading reviews and ratings, which SONY always seems to at at the top or close, and recognizing our space requirements, I happily went with the A90K along with the SONY ATMOS sound system, SONY camera, and the SONY wireless headphones. Needless to say I’ve concluded the cinema room may get much less use. Brilliant colors, sound, ease of use, tied to Alexa, and conference app. We are empty nesters sat this point and feel like a teenager with a new toy again. Thank you for incredible engineering and class of design!

Great TV - Picture and Sound both excellent
We needed another TV after the old one (a gift) had developed bright spots. Hadn't really kept up with the latest TV innovations but had Sonys in the past and always found them very reliable. Turned out we had to go up at least one size as they've generally become so big now - only one company had one the same size as our old TV and comparing the picture quality it really wasn't a patch on this one or others in the same series.
Considered going one size bigger for a small extra cost but it would have been far too big for our room. Had no idea about the Bravia Core offer that comes with this set, but it's really good - unlimited streaming of many films and 10 credits for other ones - some in IMAX mode..
Both the picture and sound settings can easily be changed to match the type of programme being watched. The dialogue mode is particularly useful for anyone (like me) who often has trouble figuring out what's being said these days - and if the worst comes to the worst you can always turn on the subtitles (quite handy for all the Star Wars stuff on Disney+).
The initial set up took a little while but was very easy - fortunately the LAN connection was pretty easy as we already had a route to the Digibox. The various cables tidy away very neatly behind removable panels on the back of the TV and there are enough HDMI inputs for everything we need - including a very long one left coiled up for when we want to connect the laptop.
If it is a while since you bought a new TV bear in mind that SCART has pretty much disappeared so you might need some additional SCART to HDMI converters for old VHS and DVD systems.
So far very pleased with the purchase.

Great TV, compact but mighty
Bought this 42" a couple of weeks ago to replace an old Panasonic model which no longer supported even the Netflix app. Had a lot of sound (and persuasive!) advice from Logan at John Lewis in Cambridge all about OLED and its benefits. The screen really is magnificent and the TV is very slim in appearance despite having the 'larger' back for all the enhanced sound part. Took us 1 hour and a 20 minutes to get it set up (that's from taking it out of the box to installing all the apps and profile etc). Actually wasn't very difficult. Yet to use a lot of it but it is simple to use, even with the 2 remote controls.

I have a bravia KD-43X8309C about seven years old when the speakers would distort on certain music. So we purchase this Oled bravia expecting the picture quality to be better. Let down by poor default settings
A great oled panel. Hideous default settings. Once all the extra processing is switched off, after an hour or two of laborious fiddling with the menis, this tv ends up with a spectacular picture. Seriously Sony, what were you thinking with default vivid settings/black/white correctors and that motion sickness soap opera monstrosity, on a panel _this_ good? All of that should be off by default.
Nasal, out of phase sound (probably some pseudo-surround nasty artefact), obviously “tuned” for mumbled dialogue. Rectified by a combination of mute button and a sound bar.
Would have been nice to have a 3.5 line out/wired headphone, but hey, Sony saved $0.03 production cost on not including it. Well done on saving the planet with the omission of audio out.

Great picture and sound on this tv
I bought this tv approx. 3 weeks ago. Overall I am satisfied with the tv. I have one problem, and it’s probably my fault! I am trying to connect my Sony dvd ,hdd recorder to the tv via HDMI, no matter what port I connect to, the tv set cannot detect it, it is very annoying! One other gripe, the tv came with no paper users manual, if I want to know how to do something, I have to go to my desktop computer to find out, very frustrating! !,

Miserable old from
I took it bck to the shop.
I bought a Loewe 32" but the EPG kept getting the channels and listings jumbled up, e.g. ITV showing Al Jazeera World. Also the EPG text was so small that I could only just about read it. The shop agreed to change it and for a bigger screen. They suggested this Sony as it was the same price as the 43" Loewe and had a good picture and sound (important to me) The Google EPG text looked a reasonable size so I had it. A big mistake. I want to switch on a TV and see TV programmes. I DON'T want to see loads of on line services and adverts for films that I have no intention of watching let alone paying for. Also, if I had missed the start of a TV programme it wouldn't alllow me to watch from it the beginning until the broadcast had finished. I was close to throwing bricks at it. The picture was also brighter and bluer than life, yes, that could probably be toned down. I returned it to the shop and changed it for the Loewe 43". Excellent, very easy to use good sound and picture and the screen can be rotated.
My previous TV was a Sony, 11 years old and wanted to change it as the sound was so bad.

Amazing Picture Quality
I bought this earlier this month when the price dropped dramatically. I had been following the price on this 42” A90K for ~3 months. This smart OLED replaced a 2012 semi-literate LED TV. The difference in picture quality (the primary reason for watching), as well as a myriad of new features, is amazing. This 42” size was perfect for my viewing area. I now look forward to getting an opportunity to turn this set on, find 4K programming and enjoy the quality and details which weren’t there on the older TV this replaced. The new features take a little time to get used to but are mostly quite useful. I can use my Apple TV+ with the Sony controller, if desired. My older Bose CineMate sound system is compatible and further enhances this Sony. I’m well pleased so far.

Forced BUY (Last of its kind)
I rarely give a perfect rating but times are changing and products are being discontinued without replacement. (I'm a SONY fan = all electronics are Sony)
Buy while you can. Expensive but worthwhile. Sony mid-level TVs last me 10+ years (this OLED expected at 7 YEARS due to potential "burn in" risk)
There will never be flagship 42/43 inch TVs anymore (Sony 2024 models start at 55 inches foreseen as permanent)
Picture is great. Sound is the clearest I've ever heard for a TV (soundbar is still needed for movies)
Only annoying thing is AAA battery must be NEW (used, and older batteries still work on older remotes BUT NOT THIS REMOTE) for the MSRP of remotes there should be a rechargeable battery with the AAA as an optional backup
_____
Only dislike is NO 3.5mm audio out (can't use older SRSZR7 without a HDMI splitter eARC)
also this should be marketed like EUROPE (5 year warranty and 2nd plastic remote with numbers)
_____
Sony id pay more for smaller TVs. (43, 50 max = LED, OLED, MINI-LED) your picture processor are worth it. Also the DSEE is excellent but should be upgraded from HX to Extreme (DSEE Ultimate for soundbars, and ES RECEIVERS)

New XR Master Series in 42” Performs Flawlessly
Early adopter here of the 42” A90K - bought sight and review unseen in August 2022. I put it through the paces setting up all of the inputs with non-invasive settings, and did not have to adjust calibration settings at all from the factory settings for what I thought looked correct. Fantastic contrast without crushing levels - really brings out the best (and worst) of whatever the source is. HD and UHD Blu-rays look astoundingly good, and Dolby Vision implementation looks spectacular. Broadcast OTA looks great too, and streaming internal apps and external (Roku) all good. CATV low bit rate (decompression) in direct comparison to the same channel OTA you can really tell the difference. It is unforgiving of bad or low quality sources, but in the same turn will let your great stuff shine.
The remote is nice in hand, missing number buttons but otherwise easy to use. Soundbar handshaking works without issue, and internal apps with the built in wireless are great, including the Bravia Core high bit rate streaming you get for free, along with 10 credits for purchasing titles there.
Downsides: almost none. I bought an OLED for true black and near-black detail and this is great. Sources dictate what you get here - the set in its default calibration will be true. I do not like how there is no ‘display’ info button on the remote, and even trying to use an older ‘display’ button from a previous remote only shows time detail. The missing info that is useful to me is resolution, bit rate, frame rate, interlace/progressive, audio channels, etc. which is barely existent and mostly unavailable to the user. I miss having it to be able to check what the set is doing and seeing as source.
It’s expensive but you realize the value of the purchase with a premium presentation of high quality sources.

Great TV at a great price
Bought this TV from Costco in March. Extremely pleased with the price and picture on this set. OLED provides incredibly rich color pallet and deep dark blanks. 4K content streaming is pretty flawless with several apps available either onboard or added through the Google Play Store. Had an issue with the LAN port, which was likely the result of lightning strike near the house, and Sony was first rate in getting the issue resolved. Very good communication and quick response once their tech support department determined the need for service. A customer service team member kept in contact with me throughout the process and the service subcontractor was very pleasant to work with.

Superb picture & extraordinary sound
Having held off as long as possible I reluctantly replaced my much loved, last generation B&O CRT this month. After much research I picked this Sony OLED. Not remotely disappointed - picture quality (including motion, the achilles heel of flat screens) is superb. Excellent detail in both shadows & highlights. I was expecting thin audio, as most flats have, but, whilst not matching the enormous B&O, the sound (from the clever screen actuation) has been a very pleasant suprise - no deep rumbling bass, of course, but a pleasing and cohesive sound. Speech in particular is very clear and detailed. I’m glad I waited for the technology to mature, but I’m thrilled with this product. My only (slight) disappointment is the clunkiness of the interface for retrieving hard disk recordings, particularly noticeable because the rest of the GUI is so slick.

Bravia XR A90K
Only had this tv for 2weeks but so far love it. Picture quality is superb as is the sound. Very easy to set up and navigate.
Two remote controls are good, one std with number buttons and a second with Google voice activation. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for an up grade to their old tv.

Dissapointment
The first few days the picture was fantastic but then it went dark. Sometimes it it improves but the picture is generally poor. We are very disappointed.

Underwhelmed
This is the first Sony product I have been disappointed by. It is let down by concerns over OLED panel longevity and extremely bad software. The issues are as follows.
1.) The brightness is factory set to 100% although the picture brightness is okay in a low lighting environment it would not be in a sunlit room. It worries me that as the OLED efficacy falls with age it will become unwatchable. I asked Customer Service if this pre-setting was normal. They did not answer my question but sent me links to regular Help sections which were not useful at all.
2.) The software is a mess. I initially opted to set up Google TV but the experience was so bad I had to reset to factory default 'set up basic TV.' Too much wrong with it to go into detail here. The basic TV operating software is appalling. One example is the subtitle setting. The assigned remote control button turns on the subtitles on but does not turn it off. There is no obvious way to do that and instructions to help cannot be found (by me at least.) Curiously when trying to do this a message appears at the top of the screen saying subtitles are not available for this service when they are in fact appearing at the bottom of the screen ! By chance a confusing combination brought an on screen selection panel up in an unexpected location which allowed me to turn them off. I've no idea how to repeat that so may avoid subtitles again.
I served as a TV electronics design engineer during my career so have a little experience including a close association with Sony engineers with whom I have always had great respect for.

Great tv but hard for the people to set up,great
Very hard to setup if you don't have a manual, and the cost of having it installed is 50 pounds
It would have been cheaper to have a manual

No Proper Manual?
I am very pleased with my new device and it's multiple features.I am disgusted though that there is no adequate hard copy users' manual provided.I am 85,barely computer literate and for £1.5k i expected better

Cool TV.
I needed a new tv and I had been looking at this one for some time, the best thing for me with this tv is I have a Sony soundbar and for them late night viewings I also have a Sony neck speaker and now I do not have any more issues with connecting my soundbar or neck speaker which is great, as it used to be a pain with my old Philips tv.

Superb TV
The picture, sound and modern features of the 42-inch A90K (connected to my Apple TV 4K) has really impressed me. Movie content looks amazing as the colours are accurate and the rich blacks add depth and atmosphere. The brightness looks great with Energy Saving switched off and movement is better for a cinematic effect with Motion Flow switched off as well. I also switched off Match Frame Rate on my Apple box to eradicate the soap opera effect. When viewing Dolby content with Dolby Sound activated and the volume turned up, movies sound quite dynamic and immersive without a soundbar, especially in my smaller room. This surprised me as I didn’t think a flat panel TV could sound this good. I’d definitely recommend this model to others.

Sublime Picture Quality with good inbuilt sound
Cannot fault picture or sound.
But has some irritating quirky faults (used as Basic TV ie not a Google TV):-
Favourite options are splatted everywhere. Why? You only set them up once!
Some options change depending on how long you hold down the button. So frustrating!!
TV shortcut always goes to Digital TV . Why not the last option used ie Favourites!!!!?
800 channels do not stay in place on the edited channel list
Sony Channel Editor - Please add option to delete all blank channels
Cannot sign into youtube (even though option is available) on Basic TV.
All Google apps require TV to be turned into a Google TV
Online Help is hopeless. Write everything down as you find out how.
Where is HDMI 1 socket? Found by accident on side of TV.

You get what you pay for and more.....
This TV arrived a couple of weeks ago and I am more than pleased that I made the decision to go for the best that was inside my budget. It is well worth the money. I live in an area with a new 5G mast which has really interfered with many terrestrial channels and my old TV couldn't cope but my new Sony TV has no problems at all. The features are still being explored and I do like the Bravia Core. I have plugged in an external hard drive and that gives me high quality recordings to enjoy later. I must also mention the quality of the remote control which seem trivial but it isn't; it lights up in the dark when you pick it up and it actually controls all of the functions of my BT TV box and not just some of them.

Outstanding picture quality and sound
I replaced my older Sony BRAVIA 43" with this newer 2023 Sony BRAVIA 42" model. These the largest sizes that would fit in my entertainment center. Great picture quality and sound. When figured out add my Sony 5.1 entertainment center in the mix, sound was even better.

Love, Love This Sony TV’s Picture & Sound Quality
This is my second purchase of a Sony TV. The brilliant color and audio options available with this TV are so helpful. The images viewed in on-screen movies (or shows) are an absolutely beautiful experience. Initial set-up, speaker, and Bluetooth connectivity was easy. Also, the added feature of being able to choose several free Bravia movies is very much appreciated but not expected.

Worth The Wait
I wanted an OLED television for my bedroom . I wanted the size to be under 50” without compromising all the tech and visual qualities that OLED offers. I am a longtime Sony customer and waited until the company finally offered the 42” size. I absolutely love this set . The smart tv features are user friendly and you can use the settings to fine tune the set to serve your personal preferences in terms of audio/ visual/ apps/ devices you want to connect via Bluetooth or HDMI ports. For folks, like myself , who haven’t purchased a new television set in many years, they are in for a truly mind blowing experience . Worth the price !

Good picture quality although could be a little brighter. The program guide could be clearer and easier to read and I found the sound to be immersed in too much bass to the detriment of the dialogue, even in the different sound modes

Outstanding TV
On refurbishing our sitting room we wanted a tv with a great picture .good sound without necessarily having to have a sound bar, great news for us with already having a Echo studio speaker we hooked it up to that ,but having listened to both sound coming from the tv and studio speaker we thought the tv on its own was quiet sufficient. We already own a Sony so know the picture , build quality is second to none .No regrets about going for a 42 inch we didn't want to over power the room ,the set up was trouble free and the remote is quality ,not plastic but metal I know that's an odd thing to !mention but Sony is about quality.Great Tv .

OK Good set excellent picture, but
I bought this TV on 27.7.2024 for £1399.10, it was istalled professionally, but after 3 days, when I turned it off at the main on/off switch, and then turned it on the next day to be greeted with a message telling me that my signal was weak and poor. On going online, this the error code YVM3302, I find that this is a known fault to which Sony are working on a fix. My signal has been checked and is strong, and all my connections are good, and a work around is, that every time I turn the mains off , I need to retune the channels to get them back. What a wonderful system. Sort the fix out, and upgrade your faulty systems.
