I am using a little adapter for this to work properly, you also have to format it with a PC, there is a adapter at Walmart I might get that makes it go in the expansion card slot.

The insulation took no more than 15 minutes and was the first time I installed a second SSD into a gaming device. It is so fast and add so much storage I would not recommend any other solid state hard drive outside of Samsung's. I am a long time Samsung user and my PS5 is my baby so I wanted to make sure whatever I got would work well and this is just a wonderful solid state, it's the only one I would recommend. I almost went for a four terabytes, if I had it to do over again I would have done it, that's how much I love it.

Once I got it running though the load speeds were super fast and great for gaming. I also have a 256 gb one and I also believe I have one for my ps5. I love my samsung products.

No issues. No heat problem, no connectivity issues. My PC is q high end and crashing is not an option, I have not lost a single file and Storage is plenty for what I need. I lost all my files couple years ago, over 14 tb of information for school and music. I needed something reliable. I have 4 2TB, installed in the motherboard and PCI which holds some extra.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Samsung or failure; you choose. Samsung memory, SD cards or SSD's I've yet to this day ever had a failure. I've used them for more than a decade and not one failure. As a photographer & graphic designer we are harsh on these items. Other brands such as wD seenogate etc I've had tramatic failures. Rest assured with Samsung you will not lose your data. I have a first gen MacBook pro that's older than most users now that has its originally replaced Mac had with Samsung. It still hasn't failed in all this time. Trust, is key to the modern world of technology. I'm a Samsung user for life.

Storage capacity and performance of drive more than meets my needs for Office use, web browsing, photo viewing and video streaming. PC runs quieter and cooler with this SSD and without any HDD storage. Warranty period for this SSD isn't as strong as one would hope. Hopefully, Hopefully, Samsung Magician SSD software will catch any problems in time and send notifications well before a failure.

Evene during high transfers the heat does not reach above 98. So there is not as much thermal throttling. I added and after market cooler and it runs between 76 and 87 degrees just to ensure longevity. I am still running earlier 960 and 970 versions but wanted NVME4 so upgraded. Other brand w and comes before e have failed time and time again. Cor something run hot and throttle.

Only possible downside of my use (no issue with the actual product) is that you can't update the firmware via the PS5. I plan to remove it sometime, buy an external adapter (current desktop doesn't have an M.2 slot and use Samsung's magician software to update the hard drives firmware. If possible, run the update first before installing in a PS5.

It runs my games just as smooth as the ps5 SSD and has plenty of storage for them. It also transfers the data insanely quick from the SSD to system storage. I have never had issues with this ever overheating or struggling to run games, I installed it 3 years ago and haven't had to touch it since. Highly recommend this product from samsung especially for use with the ps5.

Wouldn't settle for anything less. My only issues is that a couple games refuse to run stable on the drive. Once I installed these titles on another drive, the issue went away. I hope it's just an issue with these games and not the drive itself. Take that out of the equation and it works flawlessly.

Given you properly cool the NVME drive you will have no issue getting consistently fast and reliable read and write speeds. Although I can't speak to the longevity of this specific model I have used other samsung ssd and have never had an issue. If your comparing a samsung ssd to a similarly quality alternative, even if the samsung costs 10-15% more I'd go with samsung. If the price difference is more than that I'd consider other brands otherwise I'd recommend defaulting to samsung in regards to buying pc memory.

The drive is fast and has no issues with consistent read or writes, and I eventually moved it to my PS5 where it has been for about 7 months. The device didn't struggle with loading games quickly and was still more than fast enough for the minimum standards of the PS5. I got the thermal paste included model and have seen no reason to replace it yet and would deffintly recommend this drive as long as you're purchasing while it's on sale and has a more competitive price.

Problem after problem ensued: everything, from a bad flash drive that corrupted the install, to a complete reinstall due to upgrade issues, went wrong. This poor SSD was wiped over and over again - making me nervous because that's a lot of read/write cycles it's racking up in a hurry! Now that everything works perfectly, this SSD screams and boot up is almost instantaneous. Files are available without delay, and I couldn't be happier with this drive's ability to take a lot of digital abuse and rock on like nothing ever happened. I highly recommend it without hesitation.

I have been a victim to cheaper ssd's that appear to be just as good on paper only to have it completely die within the first year. Your hard drive isn't something you want to skimp on. If you want peace of mind then go with samsung 980 pro for your boot drive and 870evos for storage.

I used it in the laptop, and after 3 months I transferred it to the PC. Even when I open the games, the waiting time is very short. I recommend buying it. It is very good.

I go to play my Playstation. Turn it on. Im thinking there was an outage. My system reset and then went to repairing my SSD. Been trying to fix it and all even safe mode. Nothing worked. Really disappointed! Im still a Samsung fanboy but this has no fix and stays at 13% and thats it. Have to turn the system off. Just blows.

I've built a multitude of production, gaming, and casual systems for friends and family, and I can't recommend the Samsung 900 series enough. 970's for budget, 980's and 990's for performance. We've put them in about half a dozen systems, and so far there have been no issues whatsoever. For upgrading, the migration software is some of the easiest to use, and these drives make loading and booting of systems perform at thier absolute greatest.

The PC hosts three virtual machines and has a lot of memory. Increasing the VM host's root file-system from a 1TB to a 2TB disk means all the VMs boot very quickly from SSD storage.. The combination of the 2TB Samsung SSD and large amount of RAM makes the PC a great virtual machine host.

Samsung never cut corners on their SSD drives processing speed. I only buy Samsung SSD. I know they sale the 990, but I already have the 980 version and it's still better than some of the newer SSDs as of 2024.

Funny thing is my PC only supports PCI 3.0 so I'm not even using all the bandwidth this thing is capable of, but that's honestly okay since I know that whenever I do decide to get a new PC my drive is upgrade ready. As for speed, it's more than fast enough even now for everything I use it for, particularly gaming. I also really appreciate how large the drive is, as I don't have a care in the world when installing large games to it.

I am a senior software engineer and know a little bit about computing. As far as my hard drives, I have only bought Samsung. From my SSD to the M.2’s, that is my preference. If I had problems along the way, I would have jumped ship a long time ago. Never had one fail.

He used the magician software to clone the old drive and I helped him wipe the old drive with Asus Secure Erase. He booted up his PC with new SSD and was shocked at how quickly it turned on and loaded WoW. He was unable to play WoW with the condition of his old SATA SSD and is entirely happy with the Christmas Gift I gave him of the new 980 Pro.

I bought the Samsung 980 Pro 2TB about 2 years ago and it is a high-performance SSD that delivers impressive speeds but while its sequential read and write speeds are among the fastest for PCIe 4.0, real-world performance doesn’t always reflect the advertised numbers, especially for everyday tasks. The drive runs hot under sustained workloads, and if you get the non-heatsink version, thermal throttling can become an issue without proper cooling. Firmware problems in earlier batches raised reliability concerns, and although Samsung addressed them with updates, it left a stain on its otherwise solid reputation. Other than that, pretty solid product I do think it's worth the value because it's been working for me without fail.

I use the 1TB as my boot drive and the others as gaming or backup drives. The Samsung Magician software keep them all at the most current firmware for me. I don't have to worry about it at all. As I have slowly upgraded my previous drives with the 980 Pro's, I've noticed load speeds dramatically increase. The read/write speeds are easily double of comparable drives.

This drive is really fast and responsive and sped up file transfer and installation times on my laptop. Dell’s sale price made this a very competitive deal well worth the upgrade. What a revelation - I expected speed, but the SSD let me do file functions instantly. Everything was extremely snappy including opening Canon CR3 RAW files in Photoshop and importing them into Lightroom CC. I'll soon build a tower Windows PC and will choose the Samsung 980 Pro again.

Called Samsung for warranty and was sent an email to answer, replied back same day with all answers required and all documentation and have received zero response in almost 2 weeks. While the SSD was good when it was working, going dead and then getting zero response from Samsung, who is usually good about these things, is frustrating. If you don't have any issues then you should be golden, but if warranty is required, don't expect much from the SSD division.

However, one of them can’t be read or write after powered off for longer than a day. Power it off again and the second time power on it always works fine. But the next day, same issue. It’s completely useless used in a computer. After trying it on a different PC, check the firmware etc, it’s still a mystery. The support page is useless and I have no idea how to even start a claim for warranty.

This thing is so fast it restores a 100GB DB in 45 seconds vs. the old SSD's 4m+ Buying direct from Samsung was the same price as A-to-Z and I could be sure of the real thing. Packaging completely intact, actually a better seal than from Am... Dell PC had no issues recognizing it. Recommend sticking with the default Magician configurations--I lost 25% of the drive space by trying the max-performance settings. And with so few issues reported over the next 990's, and with such blazing speed, I see no point in expending more moolah just to have the latest.

It was detected right away by Samsung magician, and after using Disk Management in Windows 11, I was able to create a simple partition and download many games to it with no problems so far. I am using this as a second SSD, I use a Samsung 980 Pro 1tb as my main operating system drive, but I needed more disk space for reasons. This drive used to be much more expensive in 2020, so I was happy enough to get it at the listed price. My Asrock x570 Taichi Razer edition motherboard supports 3 SSDs, and seems to work properly with 3 SSDs installed. There was a tiny little transparent orange plastic cover over the NVME standoff that none of the posts that I read before trying to install this drive mentioned. You just have to peel it off before trying to install the standoff.

I was somewhat apprehensive about transferring the old SSD info to the new Samsung 980 PRO - however- the software that Samsung provides is AMAZING and very easy to use. The entire process from start to finish did not take long, was not a complex process (because the Samsung application that made the process easy and fast) and I have had zero problems.

Use one as a primary program drive, then the second as a data and working edit file, also a gaming storage. Highly recommend. The design is simple and clean, the performance is quick. Zero load times for Windows11 and a boost to my games, and video work flow. Had several 2.5 SSD EVO's and PRO's before this so was familiar with Samsung's SSD performance, and highly recommend upgrading if you are looking to do so!

The read speed looks good when I booted it up and it made easily to transfer game datas from main PS5 memory slot to NVMe M.2.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from extremely fast sort of i got 2 of these. when i copy from drive a, paste to drive b, i average 3,000 mb/s. 4k peak, 2k at the lowest. i don't get the speed that is marked on the box but it's super fast either way. can't explain why, but gta v looks better! compared to my external ssd over usb 3.0 the nvme is 22x faster.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Speed and cool operation. nice 2tb nvme drive. i bought the 980pro with preinstalled heat sink. my asus older z170 deluxe mb did deactivate two of the six sata drive ports when i placed this m.2 drive into the sole slot in this 5 1/2 year old asus board. the speed and capacity of this drive are excellent even in this board. once i partitioned the drive with the live gparted cd, the installation of archlinux was smooth and fast. since samsung has not ported magician to linux, i am relying on the o/s' ability to manage trim and i left the last 200gb unpartitioned in the event that overprovisioning becomes a future option in my o/s.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Performance way below the published specs the random read/write iops on my 980 pro 2tb drive are way below the specs. i am getting an average of 18,000 iops for random read and 87,000 iops for random write. the sequential write speed is nowhere near the specs either. it clocks in at around 3,000 mb/s. these numbers are from samsung magician. the drive is the only m.2 drive in my system, and it is connected to the first pcie 4.0 x4 m.2 slot on a gigabyte x570 aorus pro wifi motherboard.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 980 Pro Does not work with Samsung Magician just bought a new high end laptop from top 5 company. put in 2 980 pro 2 tb and get message that it does not work with the latest intel drivers installed with windows 11 on the latest intel storage controller that all new computers are shipping with intel driver 18.6.4.1022. there also are no drivers for this drive to install on the samsung website/downloads. so bought the premium samsung ssd and its magician software lists that the drive is incompatible with the latest intel storage controller drivers. hard to believe for what samsung charges for these drives. i have read all samsung community support comments which say to install and uninstall current drivers and it does not work. save your money until samsung fixes this.

I took sometime researching on what SSD to buy. After going through lot of reviews and performance benchmark comparisions, i have bought 2tb samsung 980 pro. My laptop already had heatsink plate, so opted for non heatsink version. I am happy with my purchase. Data read and write is far better than the SSD that came in with the laptop. The only issue i faced is with the magician software which didn't work to clone my existing ssd. Tried around 10 times. I had to install OS on the new SSD losing old data.

Its temperature never went over 50C, normally around 40C. Very stable and super fast for my productivity work. Super satisfied. Plan to buy one more to add it to another laptop.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Finally able to get to use it on my ps5! finally after buying this for my ps5, i'm able to use it was expecting better read. you say its suppose to read at 7100 mbs but i'm only getting 5731 mbs. so hopefully the actually update from ps5 will unleash the speed then, back in february i spent over 450 dollars for it. i guess your suppose to put heat sink on, but i didn't. the fan on the ps5 haven't rampant up like most people expect it to do. i'm transferring over 9 games less then 900 gigs, which is taking sometime to do. but thats from going from a slow external 8 to harddrive, so hopefully this will solve my blue screen issues.

Warranty says it supports 1200TBW so it should get replaced without any pushback. But I have lost the use of my machine and I will have to reinstall everything when I get the replacement.

So much faster than my 870 evos saving me a bunch of time on my projects and other renders. Granted I did this in a test build that I had lying around as I dont have all the pieces for my new build yet (Mainly the GPU and the 4TB deciding on the Seagate/850X but I haven't made a decision yet. I think i'll just wait for the 990 4tb and finally make a choice.) But yea this little guy is going to save me SOOOO much time and when the 990 comes out it will pair nicer with its slower, but still awesome, older brother. But yea if you can get this on sale (like I did I saved like 100 bucks on it.) snag it! phenomenal piece of gear for anyone wanting to reduce load and wait times on your programs.

I have had "ZERO" issues and due to my satisfaction with my purchase, I just purchased another 980 Pro while they are on sale. Don't let the thought that you can't install this SSD. Second 980 Pro is now showing bad sectors, and fails to even perform the SMART short test using their own software. Tried to get Warranty service for now 2 bad SSDs and the website doesn't even allow it. I regret not going with WD drives.

I picked this and do not regret it. I put it in my PC and I noticed immediately that my original SSD, only a year old, was not capable of doing what I wanted it to do, be fast. I'm a casual dad gamer and now I can run with these kids in FPS games like Call of Duty. It took care of a lot of lag issues with various games.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So great I bought 3! Full speed in PCIe 3.0 slot! I was using the 970 EVO Plus in my laptops until recently. I purchased a 990 Pro for my desktop and decided to put the 980 Pro it was replacing into my business laptop. When I saw that it stepped down to PCIe 3.0 x4 and ran at full speed I decided to buy two more for my gaming laptop! The 2TB 980 Pro is pretty unique in my experience. I have about a dozen different computers all doing different things and for different projects (business at home) so I have a storage space issue sometimes. I upgrade drives all the time… or so I thought! I no longer have a need now that all of my drives are 2TB options. The Pro line of SSD/NVMe drives have hardware based encryption (Opal 2 not Pyrite) as a general rule of thumb, fast read and write speeds, cheap price point for the tier, and they have a great warranty. When I put the 2TB 980 Pro in my PCIe 3.0 devices I never in my wildest dreams expected to get full PCIe 3.0 speeds. Other brands just throttle the read and write speeds. Samsung’s controller actually negotiates a 3.0 link and operates at full 3.0 spec! I do get notified in Samsung Magician that it could run faster in a PCIe 4.0 slot. As annoying as that is it does tell me that when my laptops die I won’t need to be concerned with the capacity of its replacement. We all know that can cost hundreds to increase at initial build. Samsung has made the decision to build a high quality long lasting device! Samsung has earned its spot as my top storage option for their stability and performance across the board. So for those wondering if it’s worth investing in a PCIe 4.0 NVMe drive for their PCIe 3.0 limited devices the answer is “Absolutely!” Grab a Samsung 980 Pro and you’ll never look back!

Literally the best PCEI 4.0 NVME SSD for write heavy professional applications like video editing, with the best sustained write speeds. For those unaware, SSD's have a write cache, and when writing large amounts of data in a sustained way, when that write cache is exhausted, the write speeds will plummet. The 980 pro 2tb is literally the best PCEI 4.0 drive in this regard and can write longer, at a faster speed, than any other drive from the same generation.

I used the Samsung Magic software to clone my drive and it worked without any issues. It booted up right away and now I can even monitor the Temp of the drive. I now understand why it is considered the best. If you need a new SSD NVMe drive, get a Samsung, you won't be disappointed.
