Rated 5 out of 5 by from Buyers Beware i've been a strong supporter of samsung ssds for the past decade. when it was time to upgrade my pc, i decided to go for a samsung branded m.2 drive. unfortunately, it appears as though the qa/qc for samsung m.2 ssds did not meet the same standards as the 800 series. please look up online about slow speeds (despite software updates). i bought my drive in february (so it's been about 9 months) with only 50% of the drive filled up, but it has already failed on me. look up online about 980 pro failed drive, there's numerous posts online about this issue with no solution. the fact that this is even a thing for so many people for a rather brand new drive is very concerning. not worth rma to deal with this again.

No gaming on this SSD, thats what the other two M.1 and SATA ports are for. Drive has worked perfectly from day one. Best thing is how FAST everything is on this computer especially boot time. Literally form off less that 30 seconds and its up and ready to go. Excellent choice for your PC.

My old SSD would only download at around 11 Megabytes per second, this thing is maxing out my internet! Today I was getting 95 Megabytes per second download speeds with a 100 Meg plan, honestly might upgrade to a Gigabyte plan sense this thing can obviously keep up. Another thing to keep in mind is I only have a PCIe 3.0 mother board too, so I'm not even using this thing to it's max ability! The ONLY complaint I have is that windows was a pain to install on it, and honestly could have been user error or just my system, but everything else has been fantastic especially for the price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better and faster I just installed this puppy, recovered my OS in less than 2 minutes (about 30GB compressed/100GB uncompressed) and I'm up and running. Ran CrystalDisk and it pegged reading around 6850 and writing just under 5000. I cannot get the theoretical fastest speed in the real world; copying from another NVMe only yields about 3000, which is still plenty fast enough (it might be a shared bus limitation or the speed of my other NVMe). I copied 50GB of large files (2-8GB each) to it in 18 seconds. Temps run around 45c idle, the max I saw is 56c under heavy load. The heatsink does a decent job, but I was hoping it would run cooler than my other NVMes that have aftermarket coolers. They all run between 42-47 idle. Overall, I have nothing to complain about. I have only been using it for an hour, but it's working great. And yeah, the title is a 4 Non Blondes reference.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Terrible product and company i purchased two of these drives. both of them underperform in comparison to what is advertised. i also had 1 of 2 fail on me within the first year. after it failing i've now spent 4 days in limbo trying to get ahold of samsung to only be given the run around, be ignored, or receive errors on their website making me unable to warranty the product.

SATA drives pop up, but this m.2 was a bit of a hassle. Once I got this to work the drive was amazing and still is. Boot times and load times are insanely quick with no problems. Highly recommend.

Too bad because you can't...wait a minute! Yes you can! With the samsung - 980 PRO PCIe ® 4.0 NVMe™ SSD 1TB you can increase that measly manufacturer supplied memory and store more games than the console itself does ND with zero lag, zero overheating and amazing performance! It didn't take too long but since a Windows OS clone is a bit meticulous, the sector by sector portion is important. After successfully cloning and booting for the first time, I IMMEDIATELY noticed a rapid speed boost. I was shocked with such a drastic difference from the Samsung Evo SSD to the Samsung NVMe 1TB. Installed internally and due to the data transfer speeds, I bought an external 2TB of the same NVMe PRO 980. I've been using this drive for over a year and utilizing Samsungs NVMe tools, the drive has not any performance. Excellent product, have and will continue to recommend.

I'm now getting check disk error notices and scans before windows even loads. Ran a diagnostic scan multiple times in windows using Samsung magician and it says it's perfectly fine..... Yet every time I boot it runs a chkdsk to repair errors on the drive... Will be sending in for a replacement unit

Booting my computer and opening applications and games are all very quick. The thermals are interesting: temps often run in the 60s (with a heatsink) when I'm playing a game, but otherwise, it's been very reliable.

This made it cheaper than much lower tier of device with only half of the capacity and only Gen 3. So coupled with the great price, the high end cash and cotroller really let the drive take as much advantage of Gen 4 pcie speeds that it can. It's the best drive I have ever had and I feel good trusting it with my os and high value files. I also use it for my currently installed most demanding games thanks to having plenty of space for a few triple A installs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from THE SPEED JUST KEPT FALLING EVERY WEEK first month i hit 7000mb/5000mb then week 5-7 it dropped to 6600mb/4200mb then week 8-15 it dropped to 4400mb/3900mb then the week 16-20 it went all the way down to 3500mb/2900mb and then before i sent it back it droppen to 2900mb/2900mb . pictures are on the drive that i sent back for repairs. ill post pictures of the speeds if they fix it with out formatting it. and also ill change my rating if i got a broken one.

My machine is super fast and I don't experience any lag in video editing, game loading, file transfers, or work related activities. I really cannot recommend any other drive if maximum performance is the goal.

I have the 1TB Version installed in my M.2 Slot #1 (out of 3 total) that is dedicated to store my Windows 10 Pro x64 Operating System plus basic Programs. My startup time is mere seconds and everything is super fast. Highly Recommend this drive. was able to get around 6,900MB/s Read & 5,000MB/s Write Speeds using some benchmark software tho I got screenshots. I could in the future I suppose but anyway this Drive is extremely fast... I am very big with Samsung Brand Storage media personally due to their high speeds, new technology, & cheaper pricing vs other however this 980 Pro. After installing, I migrated my 1TB data onto this by using the Samsung Migration tool. After I completed that I did some adjustments to have my SSD be displayed. After that I used Samsung's Magician Tool to clean both drives. After that I was good to go. Benchmarks don't lie. This thing is a rocketship.

It wasn't even my gaming drive, just my main OS. it states that they will include a 5-year warranty, which means that's how long you would expect this to last... but I mean, this didn't even last a year. My WD BLACK 3.5 inch HDD is still going strong after 3 years, HOW?!?!!? To make things even worse, it won't even let me request service on the website, which means my supposably 5-year warranty doesn't even matter. I can't even install Windows on this NVMe... WAT?!!?!??!? Please grant me my Warranty @Samsung. I don't care if it needs to be refurbished, I just want it to work.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exceeds the hype when both newsweek and time magazines placed bruce springsteen on their covers the same week, many discounted all the hype. but as we know, he lived up to the hype and has exceeded the hype for nearly 50 years. this drive is another springsteen. it does indeed give sequential reads of 6500+ and writes of 5050+ along with random (iops) reads of 218,000 and random writes of 142,000. you can feel how much more spritely it makes your computer run with every task you do - whether it be simple or highly complex. be forewarned, my write speed fell down to 1,000 after two days and rebounded to full speeds two weeks later where it has remained. i know not why write speeds fell temporarily. samsung tech support told me that a driver for the 980 pro will be issued nov. 2020.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great SSD recomend to anyone! Love this drive. Very fast, and dependable. I'm doing projects about every other weekend. Either building someone's or fixing my own rig and samsung ssd's in general have been a mark above the rest. Without a doubt they are easy to install on most motherboards and all that I've worked on and any every console uses this type of ssd too. I've used it as an additional ssd and I've run whole operating systems off this stick without any issues with great speeds, it's powerful!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worth the price! I have been using this solid state drive for my laptop for about 6 or 7 months and it has been amazing. I used the Samsung tool to clone data from the other SSD and it was a very smooth and easy experience. Really happy with this product. I would say that it is definitely slightly expensive compared to other brands. The one big edge that this Samsung SSD specifically has is its Samsung Magician software which is really good and really helpful.

I bought one of these drives a while back and spent about 30 minutes troubleshooting my computer because I thought it couldn't or wouldn't reboot. it turns out it was just rebooting so fast that I wasn't noticing it. My only complaint with this drive is that the loading screens on video games are impossible to read.

I needed some additional storage space for my gaming and bought this PCIe to be an external hard drive. Testing shows it would out perform the internal SSD I had, so I moved it internal. It has performed flawlessly and the form fit with heatsink work better than factory! My seek and write times are stellar and it was so easy to install with the included instructions. I use my rig with VR and my frame rate has been able to be increased, the stuttering eliminated. Highly recommended for any serious gamers rig.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best memory card on the market. I have a 990 heatsink in my developer laptop and a 980 in my gaming and miscellaneous stuff laptop. I find myself using my gaming laptop for 3d modeling and Unreal Engine use, although it does also have to do with other hardware in that laptop, but it seems that the 980 performes without heating the laptop up and making the fans loud much better than the 990. I do wonder if swapping them would make an enormous impact, but they are both great peoducts...I am nitpicking for review sake. I will say that I do also have a WD Black that was free to test out and I ended up purchasing a new Samsung because I felt that if I wasn't managing the WD black with its console, it would cause problems. Like My computer overheating and melting the power cable input which was a pain
