Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Performance I spend a lot of time in my Real Estate business on the phone with Clients.Ease of use, clarity and volume management are critical. Although installation is easy, remember to order an appropriate Lifter for the phone handset and there are a few simple instructions for installing the Lifter that are missing. Once ready to install Lifter, plug in Lifter to cradle and then unplug power to the cradle for 10+ seconds, then restart. Plus, on the top of the Model CO54 cradle, there is a black button with arrow, depress that for 5 sec+ and then all should work fine. Well worth the purchase, price and installation effort. The inside is metal construction, but the plastic connecting the rubber head brace to the headset snapped in half.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Disappointing! This was bought for me by my company and compared to the previous Plantronics headset that I was using this is sub par! Even with the volume up completely everyone on the other end complains that they cannot hear me or I sound like I'm in a vacuum and very far away. Even though its lighter than the previous one it is way more awkward and does not fit around my ear as comfortably as the other one did. I would just switch back to my old one but the battery life is down to less than 6 hours and you can't get replacements for it any longer. I am very disappointed in this version headset and can't wait til it no longer works so that my company will find an alternate one to purchase for me!!!

Only down side is the design engineers either fell asleep at the wheel or just didn't care when it came to the over the ear headpiece. Loose fitting and fairly painful to wear for ANY length of time, let alone 7 or 8 hours.

I have no idea what cords or connections I'm suppose to use. Two weeks after I got the unit, more cords showed up. These still don't work.

I love how snug it sits as well as the lightweight and battery life. This is far superior to any other unit thus far that my company has ordered. We just ordered 50 units for all other Departments.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Difficult to use, bad call quality In order to make a call on the headset you have to lift the HANDset off the phone itself, there's a switch that allegedly allows you to get a dialtone just by pushing a button on the headset, but it doesn't work. Its awkward to use and I got echos when using it on conference calls - no matter how I configured it or how close/far I got from the base unit.

It is also not compatible with telephones where the dialpad is integrated into the handset. It only works with phones that the handset is physically attached with a wire to the phone. Plantronics recommended this handset as a replacement for the CS55 (now discontinued). The CS55 worked just fine with my cordless phone, so it is not actually a replacement.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good sound, hate the mute button My employer just got me a new headset (CS530). The sound is very good. I absolutely hate the mute though. It takes too long for the mute to engage, hurts your ear since you have to press and hold down the volume button to engage mute and repeat that in order to disengage the mute. Stupid design. Also, I cannot answer my particular phone (Meridian) by pressing the answer button on the headset. I have to press the answer button on the headset AND the phone base. I do love the cordless design and seems to have great range.

I do like the sleek design and it still works great with my old lifter kit. The sound quality has improved and there is less interference with my desk phone and computer located nearby.

The next day, and subscequent days thereafter, it lasted about one hour before beeping in my ear to indicate low battery. Huh??? I leave it on my ear all day because it is awkward to get to fit my ear, and taking it on and off is impractical.

I made three calls to tech support before one guy finally figured out the headset was not wired correctly for my phone. I have been using a GN Netcom headset for over ten years with no problems. I don't understand why a Plantronics headset will not work.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Headset nice, earloop needs much improvement The whole purpose of a headset is to be able to use both hands while talking on the phone for extended periods of time. This is a very nice headset, however, the rigid ear loop is painful immediately when put on. The thin foam cushion does nothing to improve the comfort of the rigid plastic ear loop on the back of the ear. A softer, more flexible material should be used for the ear loop itself or supply a softer, denser foam cushion. Also, the one-size-fits-all ear tip does not fit well in the ear. Needs better shape and possibly small, medium and large sizing to fit various size ear canals.

I typically don't wear the unit all day long and putting it on just to answer the phone is not very convenient.

It works fine, there's clarity in the phone call UNTIL there's another phone call then it makes an AWFUL sound like when you get a microphone next to a speaker. It hurts my ear and loses connection with my clients.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Incoming Call Alert - Like 'Nails on a Chalkboard' As soon as I took my first phone call while the headset was my ear, I realized that the Alert notifying me of an incoming call was like a Fire Alarm going off in my head. I contacted support after I realized that the volume control did nothing to minimize the Screaming Beep. Support confirmed that it is a Set tone and Volume and that it can't be adjusted.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from CS540 and Cs540XD are Great Headsets I am copying my original review over from the 540XD to the CS540. I use both Headsets in my call center and they are Great! I am the Telecom Analyst for a large health care company with large call centers. I have been waiting for Plantronics to come back out with a new 900MHZ headset and this is it. I now have a mix of CS540's and CS540XD's in my call center and everything is working without interfearence. Contrary to popular belief you can have too many Dect Headsets in one area but now with the 900MHZ option eveybody can have a wireless headset. The CS540XD in my opinion outperforms the Dect version of this headset because 900MHZ has better wall and obstruction signal penetration than does a Dect Headset.The 540XD also has wideband audio which makes it a perfect fit for our Managers and Directors who demnad the best possible audio for those daily conference calls.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it! unfortunately, a 'problem' i've had is the Lifter doesn't lift completely every time and consequently, hangs up on a caller; if this can be adjusted, then it's great! Also, if you have various incoming lines and you're a distance away, there's no indication of what incoming line it is...if there was software maybe that could say 'Company ABC incoming call' in the headset earpiece then one could know how to answer accordingly.

The ear bud was a bit difficult, but turned the rubber piece around that actually goes into your ear around and it fits just fine. Also there were size options with my set. I also got the head set as well as the ear bud, so there was an option that suites anyone's preference. The on off button is different that my old set but I am sure that i will get used to it. I read that someone had difficulty hearing - under the unit itself is where you can turn up the listening and speaking volume, etc. Al in all, I think I am going to love this set as much as my old set. I do agree that the ear piece on the old set was extremely comfortable. But it's just a matter of getting used to this one. It feels like my cell phone bluetooth (just a bit bigger...ok alot bigger).

Having this ear device has made it easier to use both hands and not have to cradle the phone on our shoulders, which is not healthy. I troubleshoot equipment for a living, so I doubt very very much that I made an error. The sound cranked up to maximum sounds faint. The microphone would not work no matter what I tried. I am not found of the "comfortable" over the ear or the head setting. It is severely overpriced for what it is supposed to do. I am taking it back TODAY. Not even sure if i should venture get another one, in the off chance it was a fluke and got a dud. In one word... disappointed!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Really nice, however the mute button is not good I use this as an over-the-head set and I don't use the little silicon ear insert, I use the over-the-ear cushion, and it is very comfortable. I spend 3-4 hours on the phone per day as I telecommute: comfortable; good battery life for my use; great range throughout the house. My only gripe keeping this from a 5 is the Mute button. The mute should have been a separate button from the volume control. Pressing down on it can something create a double-click, and you aren't always sure if it is enabled or not. I sometime have to press it several times to make sure it is engaged. On the CS55, there was a faint little beep to tell you Mute is engaged, on this head set none.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works okay but the charge fails after 3 hours The headset works okay, but it fails to keep a charge after 3 hours, I hear a beeping sound and then it just clearly cuts off the caller without more warning. Then I need to plug the headset into the base and let it charge back up again. And again, the headset can only hold up for 3 hours and it fails again, and again. Not a buy if you are someone like me who is clearly on the phone all the time. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Volume button shorts out audio I've had this for about a year. Worked great - good sound, battery (for my purposes). Then, about 3 months ago the mute button stopped working correctly - when I press it in, it mutes and un-mutes immediately - didn't do that before - I have to press it 3 or 4 times for it to work properly. Also, any time I want to adjust the volume now, it shorts out the audio/mic for about 5-10 seconds, then comes back on. Not ideal when in the middle of a conference call - especially when hosting it.

I will never buy them if I knew that I need to remove the desk phone handset from its base so I can use the Platronics Headset CS520. I am going to take it like a champ, but I will never ever recomend this product.

I've still not heard back from Plantronics when they will send me a product that actually works since I bought one I've never been able to use.

We often need to get up to obtain a loan file, or to walk across the office to speak with another colleague while we are on the line. Our new Plantronics CS540's work great for our team, and make us more efficient in our work. We loved the CS line and wanted to stay with Plantronics because it is a local company, and my perception is that Plantronics is the industry standard. I receive catalogs in the mail from other companies, but I don't perceive the same quality that I recurrently have had with Plantronics.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ear piece is terrible.. CS540 The only way I can tolerate this is to use it with the accompanying headset piece - and that is not very comfortable. The one I had a year ago was awesome, why did they move the battery to the boom and make the inner ear tube flexible?? And the ear silicone is not round, my ear does not like the design, very cumbersome. This one is terrible and will not hang onto my ear, are these seriously 300+?? Think there is a reason it has an average of 3.3 stars...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not the quality of a CS55 While the headset design is great, the quality is not what I've seen in previous Plantronics products. I've experienced problems with audio (feedback) and use of the mute switch causing a loss of headset audio.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Multiple audio issues My boss purchased this for me to begin using in November. At first it has a bad echo. Customer support was very helpful with that. Then the sound began to crackle and the volume would get low. Eventually it would cut off during the calls. Plantronics has been very good in customer service and after trying more things, and even trying it with a different phone, they are replacing it in early February. It simply has not worked well most of the time I've had it, and I really hope the replacement works better.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sleek design, not the easiest to put on I bought this as a replacement for an older over ear wireless headset. It is a design improvement - sleek, elegant. However, the ear piece takes a bit of work to get used to and is not always the most comfortable (the plastic could have been molded a bit better). I do like it a lot though and it functions extremely well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from poor quality I opened the box and when to attach the headset instead of the earpiece and it broke. Haven't been able to use it yet. I called the tech support and they do not have replacement parts and then told me I would need to go to the website for replacement. I now have 2 hours in to the thing and haven't even been able to use the thing.

We bought our first CS540. Excellent quality. I think the earpiece pivot feature is a bit stiff and sometimes the entire headband wants to move when pivoting the earpiece..Otherwise, it's great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It could be better The worst part about this headset for me is that the battery doesn't last for my full work day.  I spend the first hour answering phones without it so I can get through the rest of the day without it beeping in my ear that last hour. I've asked my workplace to order something else for me and everyone else that might need a headset. A product should at least be able to make it through an 8 hour work day.

The added issue is that wearing the headset for non-phone personnel causes cosmetic (hair) issues. The ability for the use of the earpiece that comes with the headset, only, would be a lot more comfortable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from They Can Barely Hear Me I am in sales, so if people can barely hear me, they aren't going to be buying anything. The worst part of it is that it isn't every call. I first tried the troubleshooting that was on the website. That is a joke. With the 6 settings on the microphone and the 7 settings on the A-G "slider" you would be going through that process for hours to find out IF that is the problem. I also spoke with someone (ticket #4417942) about it. He was of no help. "Try setting the microphone between 3 & 4." which he thought sounded great. But on my next call, the first thing the person says to me is "I can barely hear you." Reading reviews on here and other sites shows that this is not an uncommon problem. But it seems that solutions are uncommon.

Now have the CS540 and hate the earpiece. Doesn't fit tightly, falls out, very uncomfortable. None of my team are happy!! Go back to the old design!!

I have had other Plantronic headsets for my office that have lasted 5 years with no problem. Disappointed that this only lasted 8 weeks. Customer service is doing a warranty replacement but will have to pay s/h for returns.

The ear bud does not fit snugly in the ear and just about every time I take it off the rubber ear bud flips off. Where do I get additional rubber ear buds if I lose them. It seems that the designer got the technical part right on this (it is high quality sound) but missed the mark on the ergonomics.

I get a ton of complaints that the volume is too low on the callers side and have tried adjusting it a number of times to no avail. The earpiece is not comfortable ( I don't like the over-the-head style). It is a stiff plastic piece compared to the soft cushioned headset on the CS70.

Appreciate Plantronics Warranty return policy, but in my small sample, that's a 20% failure rate and I have to pay the return shipping. Have had other apparent battery failures with this model. Nice units when I don't have to touch them again for 2 or three years after install.
