The holster is the third layer of protection. Unfortunately the holster for iPhone 17 Pro Max doesn’t snap onto the Defender case securely. The fit is loose and the thumb release pops off the case with a very light touch. Extra caution is required.

Good Protection, But Issue w/Camera Control Button
Case is solid, easy to install w/good protection. However, first batch of these cases have an issue with the camera control button [too easily activated]. To Otterboxes credit, I received an e-mail upfront notifying me that I was eligible for a warranty replacement and that they'd replace it free of charge.

Every phone I have ever had comes straight out of the box, right into a OtterBox Defender case. With the handy holster to safely carry my phone on my hip that doubles as a kickstand so I don't have to hold my phone to watch it and made of top-notch materials to last. I have dropped my phone off two story roofs and had one stuck in a snowbank for about two hours, and all have survived!

Design issue of side camera button for Defender
There is a design flaw with use of side camera button for Defender for iPhone 17 ProMax. This year's case causes false camera activation due to the design and sensitivity of the button on the defender case when handling the phone. I unintentionally activate the camera many times a day due to this design flaw. Please fix this flaw and get me a replacement case with the new design.

Poorer quality yet highest price in the market
I’ve been a faithful Otterbox user for a very long time now and I hate to say it, but this case is terrible quality and does not meet the expectations of an Otterbox case that cost $80. The case for the IPhone 17 pro max feels cheap and if poor quality materials were used, the rubber outer skin even has left over material from I’m assuming the molding process sticking out all over the place! Maybe it’s time to find another case manufacturer.

All my iPhones get an Otterbox Defender
First thing I did yesterday, upon delivery of my my iPhone 17ProMax is stick it in a new Otterbox Defender Pro. Even before activation and set up. This is my seventh iPhone since iPhone 3. They’ve all had Otterboxes. Not one time has a phone been damaged. The iPhone 15 Pro Max I’m trading in looks brand new. I’ve recommended it a couple dozen times online since yesterday. I’m a big fan!

It’s tough, solid, and gives real peace of mind—my phone even survived a six-foot fall onto concrete with no damage at all. The grip feels secure, even with dirty or sweaty hands, and it still works great with MagSafe. It’s a little bulky, but that’s a small trade-off for the level of protection you get. Overall, it’s a real good, sturdy, and excellent case that’s worth every penny.

Ive preferred the defender cases for years. This one however while it does hug the phone well and theyve made some changes so it doesnt stretch over time, the camera button part of the case is terrible. It triggers the camera button constantly and i worry this case will break that button.

Tabs broke in 4 days of use
The small tabs broke the first week . It is not for a 17 pro max . It doesn’t have the cutout for the back where the camera is and that puts pressure on the tabs and breaks them. If you want to use the case as a stand as it was designed. If you lock it in you have to force the tabs into place. That will break them fast . The case needs a cutout for the camera surround .

Personally, best phone case I’ve ever used
I love this case, it’s the only case I’ve ever bought, because I’ve never needed another. I beat the crap out of my iPhones. I get a new iPhone every other series or so, but I’ve used the same OtterBox defender with every one, and because I’ve never had to have a phone replaced, i’m telling you it’s because of the OtterBox defender. I physically dropped the phone over 20 feet before not a scratch on it always use the OtterBox defender and privacy screen protector and never had any problems once or twice I’ve had to have a few belt clips replaced, but I called OtterBox warranty department and told them the problem, not only do they ship me a new belt clip they sent me a whole new case, so I will continue to use OtterBox. They keep my phone safe. The only thing I didn’t like with my new 17 Pro Max when I bought the case at the store, they didn’t have the belt with it, I had to call OtterBox and they sent it out separately, which in all actuality it got to my house about two days so I can’t complain, minor inconvenience for good service. I’ll take it.

This is a very tough case. I like the idea of it. It does not work with my mag chargers unfortunately, and the USB-C port is a bit small. You cannot attach a battery charger to it. I'm only able to charge it with a cable connected to an external batter or power source.

I ordered and paid for the 17 pro otter box case and holster and received a 17 pro max holster - which I cannot use.
I am VERY happy with the otter box case!!
I sent a request for info on how to return the 17 pro max holster but never received a response.
I also sent in the coupon for a free 17 pro holster and received it. I wish to return the 17 pro max and receive a refund for it and also use that refund to purchase another 17 pro holster. Could you please help me with that?

This clip/cover is a must have if you use the defender case. I don’t know why it’s being sold separately now since it completes half of the protection of the defender function. Maybe people break the clip and needs to be able to replace it without buying a whole new set??? I’ve never had any issues with it breaking and I use it regularly as a stand. The defender protection is the best. I’ve used it for my last two iPhones and now my 17 Pro Max. Many Falls, but never a drop or a scratch. Highly recommend spending a few extra dollars for the best protection!

Case isn’t that bad but the holsters are crap! Phone is constantly popping out of the holster and always difficult to try and put the phone in it. Latch on the back of the holster is constantly popping open and latching into the prop stand mode. Only reason I went with otterbox is because of the case itself. Of course now when you buy a case the holster doesn’t come with it and you have to now order it separately. The last phone I had with an otterbox holster I had to replace the holster 6 times as they kept breaking.

I contacted Otterbox regarding a purchase of an iPhone 17 Pro Max Defender and requested holster device to enable attaching the product to a belt. Within 5 hours of contacting Otterbox, the requested holster device was shipped to me, arriving 3 days later! This is an example of their (Otterbox corporation) attention to customer requests. I requested a warranty replacement for similar Defender approximately a year earlier for a previous iPhone holster and received the same professional and dependable service. Loose snaps, and phone slipping out case.
My iPhone 17 pro max skeleton case snaps would not unsnap, and some would not snap. Also, my phone kept slipping out of the case. I paid over $85 for it, and didn’t expect the phone to pop out the case in the corner. Had I not of thrown away the box I would have sent it back for refund or exchange for new case due to defect. It was purchased through Amazon.

The holster doesn’t fit as well as previous versions but it is still that added layer of protection that I wanted for my iPhone investment, I am also taken aback because I had to pay for it as weeks before when this case was unavailable I had seen the holster advertised for free, as it had always been.

When the I 17 pro is installed in the defender case it makes the camera button very sensitive. Can’t take the phone out of the carrying case without taking pictures, also to just pick up the phone off of a table. I will take several accidental pics in a day. Looking for different case and carrier.

Belt holders for the iPhone 17 Pro Max, the two iPhone holders was defective did not fit. The phone fell out. Had to return it, which is another problem did not end up returning it just threw it in the trash. I love this brand. I am so disappointed with the belt holders. We stuff for money didn’t have time to return it. Just throw it in the trash. I even got one for free when we bought the outer box defender series. The free one was big for the phone too went in the trash.

This use to be included with the Defender Series and now it must be requested. This case performs several functions other than the obvious total screen protection and the ability to clip it onto your waist , clothing or backpack. It helps keep dust out, can be used as a stand for table viewing but most importantly, it DEFENDS against major damage when dropped. Camera side button on iphone17 pro max poor design
I have used otter box covers for years and have always liked them until this new defender for the iPhone 17 pro max, I can’t even use it because it keeps pushing the camera button on the right side because it is poorly designed and has no support on the upper part of the plastic shell just above the camera button .

OtterBox never lets me down
I’ve been an OtterBox fan for over 10 years, and every iPhone I’ve owned has had one of their cases. This time I picked up the Defender Series for my iPhone 17 Pro Max with the Pro Holster, and I couldn’t be happier.
What really impressed me is that it works perfectly with all my MagSafe accessories — no issues at all, which makes life so much easier. And of course, the protection is top-notch. In the first week, I dropped my phone at least a dozen times (new phone nerves, I guess), and every single time the case kept it safe. No scratches, no dents, nothing.
That’s why I keep coming back to OtterBox. It’s reliable, tough, and now even more convenient with MagSafe compatibility. After a decade of using their cases, I can honestly say they’ve earned my trust.

Case is ok, it’s a bit loose around the corners, you can easily wiggle the corners. And you can see a tiny strip of the metal phone along the top edge. Put this case on my iPhone 17 max as well as my wife’s identical phone. Both the same issues. For 80 each thought they would be a bit better.

i have had otter box product for years and have always received what i expect from them, great product, secure and safe implementation and quality beyond most!
This holster meets my demand for a safe and secure way of carrying my phone. The only issue i have is i cannot charge the phone with it in the holster. It adds bulk but this is to be expected given the task it was designed for. I like the way that the clip on the back can be switched around to any position given more options.

The retaining clip which holds the spring clip open is under designed and it broken off. The retaining lip is very small and is just waiting to break off as it did.

Hard to find with it being black, but found it. It failed me last time when my phone fell off gulf cart dash onto gravel road and a truck and boat ran over it.

1) It was annoying, inconvenient, time wasting, and time delayed not having the holster included with the Otterbox I purchased.
2) I went to all the trouble of ordering the free holster and received the wrong size.
3) After more delay, I received the holster for my size iphone and it does not fit flush with the phone and therefore isn't fully secure.
I will not be buying an Otterbox again. There are other Otterbox like phone holder for much less, that come all in one, and that fit much better.
For the money I paid, I would either like a full refund or a full Otterbox unit that truly fits together.

Excellent product as usual. I have used OtterBox Defender cases now for over 15 years and they never disappoint. Because I work in construction I always use a belt clip, which is incredibly useful.
I have utilized their warranty a couple of times and it has been exemplary.

The belt clip was not
The belt clip was not included in the package and I had to order it separately, yes it was free but I had to wait a week for it to arrive which was very inconvenient. All previous ones I have purchased included the clip in the box. I Had to carry it around and keep up with the phone without having a belt clip all that time. When the clip arrived the case does not snap into the clip as securely as all previous Otterbox cases have, giving me concern that I may lose my phone. Overall the quality, performance and experience with this Otterbox is not up to my expectations and your prior reputation.
