Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wish I had my hundred dollars back Pretty sad when combined with the otter box screen protector it makes it not fit perfectly leaving air, gaps and bubbles in the corners.which makes it difficult to use the phone you have to tap hard and dang near impossible to use corners of the phone and yes, I did open up the charger port in push all of the air out also it is also extremely hard to hear any calls I have to put the phone on speaker to hear what people are saying which is very frustrating and annoying when in public

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Peace of mind for active people. I am sharing my review after about five months of actively using the OtterBox Fre Series iPhone 14 Pro Max Case for MagSafe. This case provides a peace of mind for people who lead an active lifestyle. Whether I am working around the house, skateboarding, in the water, or running rocky trails, I don’t have to think about damaging my expensive phone. Like my previous Lifeproof Fre cases, this case provides solid protection from drops and scrapes. It appears that Otterbox improved on the speaker and microphone ports; the audio is much better than earlier designs. They also replaced the hinged charging port cover with a flexible port cover. This is a great improvement; I always felt that I could accidentally snap off the cover in previous designs. I read that others had problems interacting with their phones through this case. From my experience, I am able to consistently unlock my iPhone using Face ID. I have no issues with selecting apps or swiping. I have experienced fogging with the case, but the CS/Warranty Team quickly and easily addressed my issue. The warranty is indeed amazing just like the Otterbox CS Team described. Thank you, Otterbox!

Since you can’t use a screensaver, if you put a less bulky case on between water events you risk scratching the screen. I did, glad I had Apple Care +, 29.00 for a new screen. It’s already bulky, another mm to allow a screen saver isn’t going to matter.

They are expensive but have always protected my phone and are my go to case specifically because of the warranty that comes along with the price tag. However, I have more issues the past couple of years with the plastic screen protector peeling. I FINALLY got my brother to switch to an iPhone and bought him this case in March. And low and behold he’s having the same issue except I can’t file a warranty for the 14 pro max online. I have to physically call, send pictures etc etc, which I’ve NEVER had to do. I guess only lifeproof stood behind their products now that it’s an “otterbox fre” case you have to jump through hoop after hoop to get it replaced. Don’t waste your money, just get a case on Amazon and apple care!! Apple care will send you a brand new phone for the price of this phone case!!

Camera screen scratches way too easily and now I have to remove the back casing to take pictures and the blue rubber is a real pain in the butt to get back in.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A rip off first class Cannot hear anything on speaker, pictures are not coming out properly, the waterproof aspect is an epic failure, getting a replacement they want me to do everything and the. They have to “approve” of a photo with the date beside it. I cannot even get the case off. It’s awful. I’m frustrated. I have to open the port for anyone to hear me or for me to hear them on speaker. It’s really an awful experience and I only ever purchase Otter cases. Also, the case is not available in the purple I have, so I chose green-they then send me an email saying it can only be replaced in the color they have. Why is this so difficult?!?!?!! I run a business too, but don’t put my clients through this much and my facility is a medical one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My 1st Waterproof Case I’m giving it a 4 out of 5 stars because this is only my second day using the case so I intrigued to see if all the bad reviews y’all are writing is true. For one I have no problems with hearing other while talking on the phone nor does the person on the other end have problems hearing either so that’s one review y’all are complying about that I do not have problems with. Second I’m not having any problems with touching the screen and it not responding . Third is my pictures I take are just as clear as before I started using the case. Forth is I find it very easy to to switch from ring to vibrate and this is the first case I have had that doesn’t put my phone into silent mode after a drop So I’ll update my review after I’ve had it several months and 1,000 drops because I’m very clumsy.

And now I have iPhone 14 Pro Max but this time it seems that the quality of the screen protector has gone down. It has become a finger print magnet. I cannot keep it clean. I don't know if it is just my case or all of them are finger print magnets now???

I joke and say they are “Brittany proof.” However, I am disappointed with this case. It’s like there’s this gap between my phone screen and the case screen. Because of this, it makes super loud tapping sounds when I text, and I’ve had tons of issues clicking on items and it’ll click on something else. I don’t know if just my case is faulty or if it’s every case, but I am very dissatisfied with the new case for the iPhone 14 pro max.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Slippery plastic case has no grip The case fits well and passed the wet/water test. There is one ominous problem, however… The case has no grip! It’s mostly hard plastic that slides/slips around and out of your hand. The old Defender series cases (for my old iPhone 6S Plus) had a nice rubber-like shell that provided excellent grip in your hands. This Fré case, however, has no grip and almost encourages you to drop your phone. Suggestion: Please update this case to have a rubber/grip-able outer shell. For a phone as big as the iPhone 14 Pro Max, this is a must!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Poor quality Very disappointed with the quality of my product. iPhone 14 pro max case was delivered within a week and received product without any plastic protective covers to peel off screen before installation so the case had zero protection in shipping upon investigation found that the case was covered in dust and when trying to remove dust, found that the camera ports are not cleanable. There is a nice protective foam layer that is glued onto the camera ports on the case, and one trying to clean the case you can’t remove the foam. I tried my best to wipe it down for a long time until giving up ultimately because I know the foam would eventually break down and the adhesive sticking to foam on seems to start smearing around the lense. Very disappointing that they’ve not thought of this. I work In a workshop and there is a lot of dust and metal shavings flying around and needed something to protect my 1400$ phone and the camera lenses. This case never even made it onto my phone because I know it won’t take good photos just by examining all the dust/smudges. This is my 6th phone case… it will need to be returned but buyer beware!!!! They will make you pay for shipping according to the website!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just ok So, it does what it’s supposed to do, just not as well as the old lifeproof cases. The screen has little pits that show up in certain angles. Like little dots in lines across the entire screen. It also isn’t compatible with a number of chargers so keep that in mind. Sound quality is also an issue with the case, doesn’t allow speakers to fully work properly. Overall I’d say otter box needs to work on it and send me the updated version once they work out the kinks. For the money I’d look elsewhere.

I will also be using wireless charging but I am concerned that the cover’s attachment will weaken over time which will also make it vulnerable to water leakage. Definitely recommend to a friend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Issues with performance and steep price Not happy with this case and its protection, my speakers are really dulled out with a lot of the sound being trapped within the case which was expected due to it being a fully sealed case. I was also noticing a lot of dirt particles building up under the screen protector and causing the screen protector to lift up effecting the image of the screen and touch function. Also noticed that the front facing speaker for phone calls puts out enough sound waves to lift the screen protector off the screen near the front facing camera which makes face ID not work. Going to return this case and go back to the Defender series as those have been my goto for 8+ years. At this price range I expected this case to be the best but clearly its only really designed for water resistance.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good case but check the negatives and the positive Whenever I purchase a new iPhone I try to purchase a case adapter to prevent damage to the phone. I always purchase an Otterbox or a Catalyst case. The Otterbox case is great and performs a good job at protecting the phone itself. As with any case, it will not protect the phone from very high falls or extreme contact with a concrete sidewalk. It does its job well. I have only two negative comments. The first one being weight. My iPhone 14 pro max feels somewhat heavy. Second negative is the round volume knob on the left side of the case. It is difficult to turn and if you are not careful there will be no audio on the phone because the volume know was accidentally turned slightly to mute.

It is normally the case I prefer however after getting the new FRE case for my iPhone 14 pro max I am extremely disappointed. The Face ID does not work with the case on the phone and ALL pictures are blurry! Lost SO many pictures on Christmas vacation to Florida due to blurred images. Ended up purchasing a case from Amazon and no issues with Face ID and no blurry pictures. Tried returning it but they want order number and I do not have it. Tried the chat service but that was NO help at all. VERY DISAPPOINTED IN THIS FRE CASE!

The slick design is really nice and keeps everything protected. For those of you that have issues with putting the case on start from the top then press the bottom of the phone into the case.

The case mutes the speakers a lot, it also vibrates the middle of the back of the case diverting sound from the bottom of the case to the middle and muffled. This may work for some people’s lifestyles, not just mine.

Previously with my other phones it was a tight fit. Now when i push down on the screen there is a gap and with that it doesnt feel secure. I ended up giving the case to my husband but he says now he cannot use the face unlock feature. Hopefully they fix this ASAP because as i stated I have had lifeproof cases for almost a decade and this is the first time im really disappointed.

The plastic “face” of the cover, made terrible squiggly lines, that moved all over. Very disconcerting to try and use my phone. And overall, it felt cheap. I’ve used the defender series since my first iPhone 4 and trust it implicitly. This one didn’t feel like it would be any protection at all. I did test it in water and in that brief time, it did feel waterproof.

The look, and the design of this case makes a ton of sense, but, after running water tests (like you're supposed to) everything seemed fine, but then two days into having my case on, there is a ton of dust under the screen even after making sure to clean all of that off before closing it up.

However, I just received my new Fre iPhone 14 pro case today, and the screen cover has dot imprints all over it. Looks like it was something from manufacturing machine? Not sure but it’s not something that can be wiped away. So that’s a little annoying.

I had switched to lifeproof for the sleeker design instead of the bulky rounded case that otterboxes are known for. I saw the two companies had merged and the Fre was now made by otter box. I had loved the Fre for the 360 coverage and sleek case that doesn’t increase phone size. Now it’s just a bulky rounded overpriced otter box. It is so disappointing.

The phone is completely smooth and the iPhone 14 pro max is no small phone, I would have loved it, if I could handle the phone with one hand comfortably. The case vibrates in my hand when I’m trying to play a game or watch something that I want to hear at full volume. (Positive) I did drop it and the case did crack but the iPhone was perfect fine but… the OtterBox site doesn’t have the option to return or exchange the new iPhone 14’s yet [02-11-23]

We have had Otterbox or Lifeproof cases for all of our iPhones (there are 4 of us) since our original 3g phones. THE BEST. So many drops, pool falls, stompings, even washed in the washing machine! Always protected. This is exactly what we pay for. And honestly, we have never even had to use ANY of our warranties. Now I believe this case will hold up. That is not the issue. The issue is the protective screen. This is the case that has a screen protector for the added protection, and it is not our first time with it. But it is different now. There is so much air trapped between my phone screen and the protective screen that it has to be hit instead of tapped, and it makes a loud suction-y noise (like an echo-y click?) every time it registers a click/tap. I actually thought it was an annoying new iPhone setting, like the audible keyboard clicks. I have removed and replaced it a few times, trying to roll or massage the air out of it. The material just looks different, maybe a little warped. We are probably done with the Fre model, and will stick with the Defender series. I hope you all don’t have this same issue. It has been a thorn in my side, and a costly mistake.

The magsafe compatibility is obviously a big win for wireless charging as using a port with an otter box has never been one of the easiest things to do. Personally I love that it is 50% recycled materials, I hope more companies follow suit.

With this case, it’s so hard to get off and on and the sound…. It vibrates through the back and no one can hear me on the other end, so I have to take the case off and then they can hear me. I feel like I wasted $100 as I’m searching for a new case for my iPhone 14 Pro Max.

Case is also slippery and could use some soft gripping material to prevent it from sliding around in the car and slip out of your hand - also the sound is terrible when listening and speaking. Could be a great case, but the company stays with the same formula with small changes - they do not listen to the consumer very well.

There are prob 100 dots on the screen all symmetrically placed. Not sure what is the reason for that. I see many other people with the same complaint. Very poor quality control on an item that I just paid 99 bucks for.

I literally have to clean under the screen daily and for a $100 this is absolutely ridiculous. Otterbox do better if I can’t use a screen protector under this case, how do I keep the dirt and debris from getting in the case? I have bad OCD so this is not appreciated when I have a $1200 phone!

I purchased the fre case for my iPhone 14 max pro. It is an awful case. The case feels cheap and would not fully seal. You can not make calls with the new fre either due to how muffled the sound is. Also the case destroyed a class protective screen I had previously installed in my phone. The case was preordered new so I was disappointed when it arrived in what looked liked used condition. I retired the case and went back to my previous case. I also replaced the class screen protector on my phone. Not too happy I had to pay shipping on the return for an inferior otterbox product. If you want a case with a built on screen protector look elsewhere until otterbox forces this product.

There is like a bubble between the screen and the case and it's dang near impossible to use. And there is no screen protector on my phone otherwise. My fingers are actually sore from attempting to use my phone with this case on it. I literally feel that I wasted $100 on by far the worst case I've ever owned by OtterBox.

The case also seemed to be a big bubble on the front. It made a clicking sound every time you pushed on it. I'm planning on sending it back for a refund.

I’m always having to wipe the screen where the cameras are at in the front. It doesn’t work well in low light half the time, and if it does I have to have my face inches away from the phone. I took the phone out of the case and tested the Face ID without it and works as it should. I’ve always gotten this case for all of my iPhones, but I think this is the last time I’ll get this case. I’m really considering changing cases.

But the case with the cover is extremely hard to text because it has a bubble that you cannot the air is just the shape of the screen protector. That is the only annoying part so texting you have to type one letter or number at a time.

I ordered it a month ago and was so excited to finally receive it, however, the case did NOT meet my expectations for an OtterBox case. First, it was extremely hard to press the buttons on the side of the case. I had to press real hard and sometimes it still wouldn’t respond. Way too much effort! Also, I really did not like the turn dial button at all. It was difficult to operate. The screen protector felt cheap and moved some when I scrolled up and down on my phone. There were also fingerprints constantly on the screen every time I touched it and I had to keep wiping it off because it looked so dirty. I think I hated that the most about the case and it was quite annoying. I’ve always used OtterBox cases in the past on my cell phones and iPads and I swear by them but this model was the worst. The quality of materials used and craftsmanship of this model was not up to par for an Otterbox. The case was the most expensive ($99) I’ve ever paid for an Otterbox case and it end up being a “Big disappointment” and the worst case I ever purchased from Otterbox.

They were easy to put on and seem to be very capable to do what they are intended. MagSafe charging has been easy and quick. The back up Anker MagSafe power supplies work well with the case as does the Apple OEM MagSafe charger. Time will tell, but so far I/we like them a lot. When I get my 14 Pro Max, I will most likely be going with this case.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Decent case although ….. I’ve always had a lifeproof case and been a life long fan previous to OtterBox being integrated with them. I bought the fre because it’s completely sealed and seemed to be the best option protection wise for me. I work outside on hard surfaces and in the elements along with dust dirt you name it. Gives me peace of mind knowing it’s fully protected however the magnet is extremely weak. I even put on an additional circle shaped one from a car Mount kit I have and the weight of the phone slides down on the magnetic mount any bump and the phones drops off completely. My last case I had taped a rectangle magnet to the inside of the case from a different mount kit and it was strong nothing could move or shake it even large potholes. My hopes was I wouldn’t have to use the old magnet for this new case it bulges the back slightly and is just a little inconvenient. As for sound quality I know will suffer since it’s a sealed case I recommend anyone not using headphones to open the charging port you’ll sound less muffled. Overall it’s a decent case so far hoping the speaker port plug won’t sheet off that seems a little flimsy. As for the dots someone had previously mentioned mine had it to and only visible when the screen on your phone is black. My guess is it has something to do with aiding in the sensitivity of the touch response when using your phone. Lastly it comes with a small card stating your 5g signal strength may be affected with this sealed case for more info contact your service provider I would imagine it had the same effect for Wi-Fi also but I haven’t noticed anything different in terms is signal strength I have AT&T.

I purchased a belt holster case for it from AGOZ Tech. Bought the Zebra TC77 and it's excellent. The phone slides into it, a velcro held flap covers the phone, and the flaps is secured with an integrated snap-strap.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Needs work I have had an otterbox and lifeproof case on my phones since iPhone 4. The quality has gone down. I like the new mute but that’s about it. The dots on the screen are annoying and make you go cross eyed. The charging door is hard to open and close. It was better on the iPhone 5 cases. Also the o ring seal seems outdated and anytime you open your case to get debris out (which shouldn’t be happening in the first place) it’s a pain to get it squared to not leak when you put the case back together. Wishing for better Fre cases in the future cause I do use them to there benefits that are listed for all weather.

The screen protector looks like crap, and the camera lens protector is even worse. I dont mind the "dots" on the screen protector but the front looks incredibly bad when the phone is locked. While this issue is more of an inconvenience , the screen has a multi colored sheen that resembles an oil spill reflecting light off of water, but I will admit it does not affect the usage or appearance of the screen when being use. But the issue that I do have a problem is, the back camera lens protector is TRASHY. I have had the case for maybe 2 months, possibly 3. Regardless, over the past few weeks I have noticed every photo i take with the back camera looks like it was one of the cameras used on Days of Our Lives. It just has a blurriness to the photos. Today while cleaning my case, I realized there is a permanent "stain" on the protector. The only thing I can say it reminds me of. are those junky car headlights that are fogged over. While not near as bad as a headlight, I could not rub, scrub, wipe, or clean the stain off the case. I've always bought otterbox, but after this, I am not so sure anymore.

The case tends to muffle audio when playing videos or movies due to it being fully sealed to be waterproof. Today I took the case off to clean my phone and put my old Apple case on and the sound quality difference is very noticeable after using this case exclusively for 1 month. I took this case on my recent trip to the states and it so happened that it fell out of my hoodie pocket as I was getting out of a semi lifted truck around a 5-7 Foot drop and it held up extremely well with minor damage to the case corners! This case would be ideal for someone who does alot of outdoor activities or works in a trade where their environment is often dusty with debris.

Got a replacement and now all of my photos are blurry, my camera struggles to focus and if the sun hits it the wrong way I have BLUE lens flares that shadow all my photo subjects. Quality has gone downhill. Will never buy this again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good case with one major flaw I always have otter box cases in my phones and even one on my iPad. November I upgraded my phone and went all out with a iPhone 14 Pro Max. Since I spent all that money on the phone, I waited for the Fre case to come out thinking it was going to be a good investment to protect my phone. I am actually on the 3rd case and they all have the exact same issue, the piece protecting the camera lenses is of terrible quality and does not last long without being scratched. After some more time the scratches get so bad that it becomes virtually not usable any more. All the other features of the case seem to work just fine, it is actually watertight, the controls for all the buttons are nice and accessible I particularly like the know to turn the ringer on and off. The convenience of the magsafe charging means I don't ever plug a cable to the phone and since there are no openings, no dust ever gets in. It is a shame that and cheap plastic keeps this from being a great case.....seems like it would be an easy fix at the factory too, just use a high grade glass or plastic that would withstand the use and test of time. Now im $300 bucks out and still looking for a good iPhone case

Within a month the camera protection had hairline cracks and allowed dust in, which as hard on them as I am I wasn’t terribly bothered but now that crack is a crack that is very visible and slightly offset down, I’m more worried about my camera. Recently the charging port cover completely came off so the case is no longer water proof. Really if I’d had the case more than about 6 months I wouldn’t be terribly bothered by those issues. Out side of that it’s definitely done the job of protecting my phone, as evidenced by the many deep scratches on its corners and the perfect condition phone in it

My previous case, not an OtterBox, left my back glass completely shattered. So far the glass is holding up well. My only complaint is I cannot use my phone on speaker as the microphone is covered and no one can hear me. They make comments like it sounds like I’m speaking into a box and it is very difficult to understand anything that I say.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Disappointing I used to swear by Lifeproof/Otter box products. Cases used to be high quality and I would rarely have to replace them. The case is durable but the plastic camera covers are the worst. On the older life-proof case the lens protectors used to be glass and would never scratch. The whole reason for getting a 14 Pro Max is the camera, and the quality is severely hindered by the scratched plastic lens, especially with the scratched back cover. Also, the Otter box warranty is terrible and more clunky than the life-proof one. It never once worked, so I had to take hours out of my day to call customer service to do it all over the phone. This process would take under 5 minutes with the old website. And the cost of shipping is 7$ so I end up paying 7$ every 3 months to get a warranted case because the back scratches fast. I have had life-proof cases for 8 years and have always been an advocate, but this case has made me rethink my next case.

The iPhone 6 case was awesome, no issues. The iPhone 11 case had an issue, and LifeProof sent a replacement right away. I've had my IPhone 14 Max Pro for less than a year, and the FRE case is so scratched by the camera lens covers that my photos look bad. I submitted for a replacement, and it's no longer under warranty. It hasn't even been a year! For almost $100, these cases have to last longer than 1 year. The quality and customer service has definitely declined since Otterbox purchased LifeProof. Premium prices should be for premium products and/or premium service. I won't be buying another FRE case.

I think they went really cheap on the camera cover since the main reason for a pro max is the better camera that I use daily for work I rated 2 stars cause the case is nice if the camera cover didn’t scratch

Definitely can not text with one hand. I have always used OtterBox for protection on my previous phones and have never "broke" a phone or cracked a screen so when I got a new phone the 1st thing I did was order a new OtterBox case for it. I was very disappointed with the Fre Series as it is super slippery. A very small portion of the case is grippy but it is on the front of the case so in order to utilize it & keep the phone from slipping off of a counter or on the console of your car, etc. you must have the phone face down. Those 2 downfalls caused me to take the case off and not use it. Waste of money. I went with an off brand that was slimmer and had a grippy texture on all sides. Sorry to say I was disappointed in the Fre Series.

I get it and not only is the case waterproof, and durable, but it is old just a smigen off and you can’t you facial recognition or the camera won’t focus. I have had my 14pro max for less than a year and the front has become so scratched that my facial identification no longer works not to mention the back for the cameras is super foggy. My wife has tried to submit for warranty but it says it’s not available. We have always loved Lifeproof cases and have suggested them to other people my 12pro max got ran over with a piece of heavy equipment and still worked. Now this case is awful. And it really stinks that they don’t offer a clip for this case anymore and we have to buy a aftermarket clip by another manufacturer. Definitely will be rethinking if we buy another FRE case.

I have taken my phone snorkeling and accidentally submerged it several times. These cases have saved me thousands on phone repairs, however, I am experiencing a new issue when it comes to the 14 pro max fre series. The lens film over the camera becomes so scratched after 5 months of use it makes it so the camera is unusable. I was able to do a warranty return on it to get a new one- same thing! I am trying to contact customer service but no one picks up the phone and the bot for the chat feature keeps saying no one is available. In the past I have gotten excellent customer service so this is a shock. I would like to get my case replaced if someone could reach out to me, but might have to start searching for an alternative option if the camera film issue cannot be resolved.

I will also be using wireless charging but I am concerned that the cover’s attachment will weaken over time which will also make it vulnerable to water leakage. Definitely recommend to a friend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from WORST. PHONE. CASE EVER! Can’t take it off of my phone. Terrible phone case in general, if I can’t remove it for another month of trying I will genuinely take this to court because of how bad the product is and how mis leading it is for the price of it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fre Series was a hard no for me. I am generally a fan of Otterbox cases, but this one was a bust for me. The protective screen has an airgap to the phone screen requiring a finger "smash" to make contract. It is noisy "clicky" with each press of the screen. You have to make very exagerated motions for multi-touch. And is just feels cheap compared to their other models. And it was freakin' expensive. Seriously bummed on this pick.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from UTTER DISSAPOINTMENT I want to warn folks that this is not a everyday use type of case and for $100 that's unacceptable. I traveled to Jamaica, El Salvador and Bimini in the last two months for weeks at a time and mainly for underwater use. I reviewed the footage and the protector screen fuzzed all the footage. Its made of cheap thin plastic and gets easily scratched. WHAT A BUMMER!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Case has room for improvement but pretty good Love the construction of this case. Problem I have is that the case doesn’t line up perfectly on all the sides and the top didn’t fully like latch closed. And the case construction feels just a little cheap for what you’d expect. But overall a great case.
