The lower right camera button is super sensitive, it often triggers with very little pressure forcing the camera to open in the middle of gaming and other apps.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Button on side of the OtterBox is a PROBLEM. The button on the side of the OtterBox is too sensitive and keeps turning the camera on. The button is right in the place where I normally pick up the phone, and each time I pick up the phone the camera turns on. It’s really a problem, and I may get rid of the OtterBox for that one reason. The OtterBox defender for the iPhone 16 Pro Max had a cut out in the OtterBox so this was not a problem. The new OtterBox for the iPhone 17 Pro Max, however, has a button over that notch on the side camera button, and it’s almost impossible not to hit that button while holding the phone, and thus activating the camera. another problem with the button on the side of the OtterBox, is that while I’m using the flashlight, my hand might touch that button, and then the flashlight turned off, which is really a problem if I’m in a dark area such as the garage I had no idea that the camera button would turn off the flashlight, but it does. Having that overly sensitive button on the side of the OtterBox defender series for the iPhone 17 Pro Max is disappointing. Yesterday, while I was at the T-Mobile store, the customer service rep was helping me with some apps, and she kept accidentally hitting that button on the side of my OtterBox and turning on the camera, and she remarked that this is comical and a problem.

I want to use camera control, so I returned this case to Otterbox.

I received an email about a replacement, I filled out the form, and have not heard back. I cannot get through to anyone except their AI bot that dances in circles. Would not recommend until they fix their case

When I bought the 17 Pro Max and saw that there was a physical action button, I thought it was the end, without thinking twice. I bought it before the iPhone 17 Pro Max came out but when I had the phone in my hand and put it on, I saw that every time I picked it up, the action camera button was activated, which was not normal. That has a problem and OtterBox has to fix it, which I hate terribly, which is why I returned it.

The only downside is the charging port cover which does not last. This new case has a polycarbonate back and isn’t as bulky. I drop my phone a lot (I’m an old person ??) The case arrived quickly (free shipping too!) and it was easy to add to my phone. Keep up the great work Otterbox!

Instead, you just snap off the front face and slip your phone into it. I like the clear backing with the bumper style edge protection. And, as always, it’s nice to have the clip option for those that don’t carry their phone in their pocket.

I had the same style for my last phone and it stood up to quite a few falls and drops without suffering any damage. Regarding the overall design, there are a couple improvements I would like to see. First, the iPhone 16 version had a soft padded back where the camouflage was pictured. The newer model for the iPhone 17 has a smooth sticker kind of a back where the camouflage is pictured. I preferred the padded version. I also am not a fan of the fact that the camera lenses are left completely exposed, especially now that the camera platform extends all the way across the phone on the 17. It would be nice to see a case that features some sort of protection for the cameras other that just a raised edge.

Thought these cases were sealed and disappointed the camera area allows dirt and debris in. Also the cover for the charge port opens hard and forces a lot of angular pressure to engage and remove the cable in and out of the slot. The end result will be damage to the cable and likely the phone side plug as well. Lifeproof currently not available.

I was disappointed that there were only a few colors to choose from. So, I couldn’t get my usual camo color case. But one thing I’m worried most about is how the case clips into the belt clip. It doesn’t have a firm click when you snap your phone into place. And doesn’t have a lot of resistance for it not to fall out. I’m worried about loosing my phone. Everything else if fine and it came on the same delivery truck as my phone. So I didn’t have to use it naked.

Unfortunately, the back of the case scratched very easily with normal, everyday use. Even more frustrating, the two pieces that are supposed to clip together don’t connect very securely. They commonly separate, which makes the case feel unreliable and poorly designed. Overall, it doesn’t provide the solid, dependable protection I was expecting.

It feels very stout, but I’ve had this exact case on my old phone and it didnt take long for the parts of the rubber that hold everything together to pretty much wear out and fall apart. Doesn’t really seem like they changed anything. If anything the past model had stiffer rubber… this one’s is a lot more flexible which helps with ease of installation but I wonder how the durability will be long term.

I know if I drop my phone, which I will eventually do, it will be maximally protected in this rugged and attractive case. The buttons work well. The mag charging works well. Microphones and speakers work. The side bumpers offer a great non-slip grip with ridges. I like that the OB showcases that my phone itself is dark blue. I'm really happy with it.

It’s still bulky and cannot fit nothing.

This product, far from protecting the investment of a very expensive phone, actually exposes the most important areas of the device, such as the cameras. Compared to other brands, the exposed area around the cameras is excessively large. I do not recommend it.

When I took my last phone out of my OtterBox case it still looked brand new. That was after 5 years with multiple drops on concrete and other hard surfaces. I highly recommend them.

I am disappointed to learn that Lifeproof cases are no longer available, so I have resorted to this alternative, which has proven to be the worst case ever. I strongly urge the manufacturer to restore Lifeproof cases.
