Nothing Like Their Old Product
I bought an Otterbox Defender for my iPhone 6s, it was amazing. I bragged to friends and family about it and when asked why I had such a bulky case, I’d chuck it across the room at full force and say “Otterbox!” As I picked it back up with no worries at all. I’d toss it in the air, kick it, drop sharp heavy objects on it, everything for years. I loved that phone and after treating it like garbage for years, it finally was so slow, I HAD to upgrade. I pulled it out of its case and it looked brand new. Not a single dent or smudge or anything.
iPhones now are an even bigger investment than they were years ago, so I of course went to buy an Otterbox for it. I was blown away by what I found, and not in a good way. Firstly, there’s no difference in the Defender series compared to the Commuters from the past. No screen, super thin, and super flimsy. However, they’re twice the cost and suggest buying their sticky glass screens for and additional 1/3 cost of the case itself. I was recommended other phone cases, and I read the terrible reviews here, but I went ahead and bought the new case and screen because of my past experience. Every bad review here you read is true. I spent hours trying to perfectly put the screen on, but at best I left a small bubble in the top right corner and there’s a tiny gap between the case and the screen where dust collects and sticks forever.
Second, the case feels extremely light and weak. They mention some groundbreaking way they made it just as strong as before, but lighter and weaker, but I knew it wasn’t true. With this in mind, I’ve basically been babying my phone and case. People expect me to toss it across a room, but I tell them, “No…I’m too worried about the new case.”
5 months later, it happens. I place my phone too close to the edge of the table and it falls 3 feet onto a hardwood floor on its edge. The plastic cracked and is now impossible to fix without glue. Fortunately, I’m within the now 1 year warranty, as opposed to their old lifetime warranty or I’d be screwed. Imagine if I chucked it across the room like I used to? With so much competition in the iPhone case department and considering the Defender series is supposed to be the “best” I doubt I’ll be buying Otterbox again. So sad to see they completely botched their status as the de facto name in iPhone cases. Might as well buy some cheap knockoff once the replacement case inevitably breaks past the 1 year warranty. I hope whomever made these awful changes gets fired soon, but more than likely, the company will go under or be bought out by a competitor before that ever happens.

I just got my iPhone 12 Pro and purchased an Otter case to protect it. Mine is marine blue so it doesn't show dirt so much. I am clumsy so I definitely needed something to protect my iPhone and Otter fits the bill. ! I love the shield on the front since it seems to repel fingerprints. I have used Otter protection before on my previous iPhones and, as many times as I have dropped my phone, it never once cracked! Quite impressive!

Good Protection, Poor Build Quality
The design of the case is great, and my phone is in immaculate condition despite one or two minor drops in this case. With nice bezels and a good screen protector, this really does protect a phone. The issue is, the inner plastic is extremely fragile, and has started to break after only a couple of minor drops (at max). I love otter box products, but it seems like they may have missed the quality of this one. The clips that hold the inner portion of the case together have also begun to break, causing the entire case to move around and feel extremely cheap.

I have had several otterbox cases over the years. I went through two otter boxes with my iPhone 5s (the first case died for reasons unrelated to its build or usage). So when it was time to upgrade my phone to the new iPhone 12 Pro I would intrust my investment to no other case. The color selection is perfect for my pacific blue phone. It isn’t as bulky as previous otter box defender cases but still as solid. Highly recommend!

Amazed after saving my new phone
I run heavy equipment for a living and the other day I dropped my phone from 6 feet face down. Immediately after it hit the ground a fully loaded 120,000 lb tractor and trailer ran right over it (6 axles total). I had this defender series case on it as well as a glass screen protector and after peeling off the shattered screen protector, I looked all over my phone front and back and I couldn’t believe that there was no cosmetic or functional damage to my phone! Otter box, thank you for saving me a bunch of money and protecting my phone!

I am very happy with this case.
I had my iPhone 12 case with auto charging 3 months. I love it, the case is way thinner than they use to be. It feels great. My phone is so protected. Outterbox really step up their game. I would definitely box another case for my future phone. My only negative experience is delivery, UPS don’t update delivery times. I do have to say my case did arrive on time. I wish I bought an automatic charger when bought my case.

My phone was run over by MANY cars - no damage!!!!
I have always used Otterbox cases because I drop my phone so much. But yesterday was the big test -- I put my phone on the roof of my car & forgot as I drove off. The phone fell off in the street without my knowledge, and was apparently run over by many cars over 20+ minutes in a busy street. A few hours later I got the phone back and it works fine! The case absorbed all the damage (you could see all the scratches and the plastic was a bit flattened). Totally worth the $$.

Great Grip
Long line of Otterbox cases used on our phones, a go to for us. What we love is the added protection and grip of this case. What we wish were improved or just removed on the Defender case is the charging plug cover now that the phones are waterproof, and then narrow the bezel or remove it from the glass all together so you can easily use all the hand gestures.

Armor for my Phone
My old iPhone had an Otterbox Defender on it. On vacation I left it on the roof of my car. Flew off at a spot where you’re driving 50 mph. Came back an hour later looking for it and on Find My iPhone it showed it was in the road. It had been sitting in the center of a busy road in Mt Pleasant, SC (IOP Connector.. I totally expected it to be smashed and when I picked it up, the phone was working perfectly. I’ll never use anything else.

This is my fourth (at least) purchase of an Otter Box phone case. They have saved my phones many times. As with many cases today you will need to add a separate screen protector. While one cannot rely on a case to protect against water, I did once briefly drop my phone in a pond and had no damage—I credit the Otter Box!

I've had the case for about 2 weeks. It is a good case and it seems sturdy like my past Defender cases. The only thing I don't like is that there is no cover for the front anymore. I know you can buy something separate but I prefer it all in one. The price is the same as in the past when it did include the front cover.

I bought this thinking that it would use the the magnetic charging feature of the iPhone 12. It doesn’t. Nowhere in the labeling does it state that a product designed exclusively for a product would not enable its use.
Also the piece of paper included in the box, presumably to indicate regulatory compliance, must be read with a microscope. Why bother including it in the box if it can’t be read.
Clearly you have lost my confidence in your integrity.

The screen protector gets air bubbles. Ive replaced it twice now. It needs to be replaces again. I font know if its at&t problem or defect. Im not satisfied with the price i paid and the product i have now. My old otterbox was great and lasted for years.

I bought the case when I bought my phone new from Verizon. Otter cases have always been my go to for protection for years and have been quality. This iPhone 12 case is made terribly CHEAP! The rubber doesn’t fit the plastic, it practically falls off, and on top of that, I didn’t have the case for a month and the clip broke so I tried to warranty the cheap clip that barely holds the phone in, and I jumped through otters hoops for their warranty over 2 months ago and I am still waiting for a replacement! I am going to buy something new. Thanks otterbox for being like most other companies that used to be good but went cheap!

I've bought the Defender for every iphone I've ever owned. After the first Defender, I didn't bother to even look around when buying / upgrading phones.
Long time advocate for OtterBox but I would probably not buy again. Similar to other posts, the new version for (e.g., for the iphone 12) is a disappointment if you had the prior versions.
The lack of built-in screen protection is suboptimal for a series who had a following of people that were happy to trade bulk for protection. The old versions made your phone indestructible; but this version offers considerably less.
I'm upgrading my phone in the next month and will shop around to see what's available elsewhere in the market. It isn't that the OtterBox is bad; it just isn't great anymore.
I suspect if the company reviews ratings on prior versions vs. newer versions, they will similarly see a trend in customer satisfaction.

Great product and no hassle warranty.
I work in constructions and I’m alway dropping my phone and I don’t even want to know how many phones I would have broke without my OtterBox case. They are pricey but they protect your phone for sure.
I’ve even broken a few of these cases or the clips but OtterBox warranty them and all I have to do is pay a few bucks for shipping and I get a new case in a week or so

Fresh New Defender Case
Case (and screen protector) replacement really is like getting a new phone at a fraction of the price. I always buy one with a new phone, and again at the “halfway” point. Case is solid, and has prevented catastrophe on many occasions.

I trust my Otterbox!
I've been using this particular case for over a week now and it seems to protect my phone just as well as all of the other Otterbox Defender cases that I've ever used. It's a light and sleek design. I've used the Defender cases for years (since 2014, I think and they've always protected my phone amazingly. I dropped my last phone into the gears of an elliptical machine at the gym and the phone itself didn't shatter or break. The Otterbox took the brunt of the impact. The phone itself was just slightly bent and worked perfectly fine until I decided to get a new phone over six months later. These Defender cases have really earned my trust. I never use my iPhone with a Defender case. You won't regret investing in one.

Good case doesn’t support screen protector
Good case on the iPhone 12 pro, fits very tight does a good job while not too bulk like previous defender cases, no screen protector included also worth noting does not work with latercase gorilla glass screen protector or any screen protector that is edge to edge as it does cover over the edges of the screen plus the belt clip/stand isn’t as sturdy as previous ones

Does not feel grippy like previous cases
I’ve had an otter box defender since the 3GS days, so it’s not my first dance. I ordered the box and was disappointed it did not feel secure from slippage in my hand. It might be because the ‘defender pro’ is meant to have a different feel than the regular defender, but it’s not one that conveyed confidence. My teal defender for my xs is perfect, though. Think I’ll keep using that and keep my xs.

I bought this case for my iphone 12. I have been a fan of the otterbox snce the iphone 4. Durability, quality and protection are exceptional in the Defender Pro. My husband and friends picked the otterbox symmetry for the slimmer profile. I love mine for the extra protection it offers. Very satisfied—-I would buy again.

I stay up to date on iPhones and wouldn't get one without a Defender case. I have dropped my phone, on tile, on cement, out of the car and every time I am so grateful that it is protected and that I have never had an issue with my phone. Good work Otterbox!

Huger Otterbox Fan
We've tried other brands, but we always come back to Otterbox. I took a break from my history of black cases and am enjoying the blue! I prefer the Defender series over the Commuter thanks to the less slippery surface. The inner plastic casing allows for a slim magnet to be attached without my having to attach the magnet to the phone, thus making my magnet holder-bond nice and strong.

dissapointed, quality has signifigantly decreased
I bought this case for my iPhone 12 Pro about a week ago, I had one on my previous iPhone 11 Pro that I absolutely loved. I was expecting to get the same quality and protection with the one for my new phone but I was incredibly disappointed to see that there is no longer a raised edge and the case is overall thinner and just feels cheaper and less rugged. this is very aggravating to me because I actually use my phone in harsh environments and that's why I have had an otterbox on every phone I have ever owned. if I wanted a slim pretty case then I wouldn't have bought a defender series. but I bought the "rugged" case that for some reason is being streamlined and made cheaper. I understand the cost of materials goes up and I get that you need to make money but cutting corners and making a cheap lower quality case is going to ruin your niche in the phone case market. like I don't care what it cost I just want a rugged quality phone case that feels good in my hand, that I can actually hold and actually protect my device. I would love to have a conversation with someone who designs these cases because I would love to give some conductive criticisms. the thing that sparked me to write this review is I dropped my phone on the side and it hit a little lip of a rolling shop chair and it shattered the screen protector. (an alpha glass screen protector and it is entirely due to the lack of edge protection (because on the sides of the case the lip on the edge of the screen is flush with the screen, leaving it susceptible to edge damage, why did you mess with a good thing. I want a rugged case, not a sleek or low-profile case. i want it big and clunky because than it gives the protection that it needs

The Good and the Bad
I ordered the Pro Defender for the iPhone 12 Pro. The case looks and feels absolutely great-even better than Otterbox cases that I've owned in the past. The problem that I have is with wireless charging. I have 3 different wireless chargers that I use and the new case prevents charging about 50% of the time regardless of which charger I'm using. I specifically ordered this series since I had seen poor reviews of the Otterbox cases designed for MagSafe charging. In addition to this, Otterbox sandard shipping is through UPS who then hands off the package to USPS. My order sat in my local post office for 2 weeks before delivery.

If it ain’t broke don’t fix it and they fixed it
I have an iPhone 11 Pro and I bought an OtterBox case just like this for it and I loved it. It was a great case it held up well in the back didn’t start peeling until about a year and a half of hard use. I just bought an iPhone 12 pro and I bought this case to put it in because I was guessing that I was getting the same case that I got for my 11 but I was mistaken. Apparently a rug and Chase is getting thinner and thinner which is not why you buy a rugged case. I want some screen protection in my case and with this case I do not get it. I don’t want a low profile phone I want something that I can hold in my hands are covered in grease not something that’s so thin that I feel like im going to drop it. I was just hoping for the amount of money they charge for this case that they wouldn’t make it cheaper and well that’s exactly what they did. I don’t want a streamline case. If I wanted a basic case I would’ve bought a basic case. I just do not understand why you have to go ruining such a great thing

Love the case but…
I’ve had this case for a few months. The only problem I have with it is that it won’t charge wirelessly with the apple charger. Love the way the case feels and the comfort of knowing it’s safe from most drops

Durability - good…BUT… MAJOR problem
Bought one for an iPhone 11 Pro - had constant issues with my phone sound cutting in and out. Tried everything on the phone to fix the issue. Kept thinking it was the Otterbox Case causing it so got a replacement Otterbox case. Still issues. Upgraded phone to iPhone 12 Pro - got Otterbox Defender Pro case. Again sound cuts in and out. If I take the case off no problem with the sound at all so it’s clearly not the phone but the Otterbox case. Other friends and family have the same phone with a different case and they don’t have to take the case off for clear calls. Disappointed because I’ve used Otterbox cases for 8 years but this is a MAJOR problem!

I have a selection of Otterbox cases
For my iPhone 12 I own a clear Symmetry, two Defender Pro's, a Defender XT and an Apple silicon case. So I switch between them - the Apple and clear Symmetry looks great but don't stay on long, the Defender XT I really like but the smooth plastic back became scratched within days and I was trying to be careful having read the reviews.
Yes, the Defender Pro is bulky but it feel right in the hand, no fear in setting it down on either side, it won't charge Magsafe but will charge wirelessly on other chargers.
If you ever drop your phone the Defender Pro is what you want on it. Standard of the industry.

Disappointing Update to the Defender Cases
I’ve used Otterbox cases religiously for many years. I even get their Defender series which has offered the most protection. Their new case for iPhone 12 and up proved extremely disappointing. The Defender case comes with a hard plastic shell covered by a rubber case. In the past, the plastic shell was thicker and therefore more durable. As you can see, the top part of the plastic shell broke in several places and even chipped and peeled away. The only thing holding the plastic shell together was the outer casing. This was the result of normal use. No drops.

these cases are great, i've bought them for all the iphones that I have had. However, the case for the iphone se, or iphone 7 with built in screen protector was the absolute best, the phone was always in perfect condition. maybe it's a marketing thing to sell screen protectors but why can't there be built screen protectors for the 12 & 13?? built in screen protectors are the way to go!! I love these products they have always kept my phone safe. thank you Otterbox

Best purchase ever!
I bought this a couple of months ago I have always loved it. Last week I got into a horrible car wreck and a guy t-boned us. Me and my phone both went flying. When I came too I thought my phone was going to be broken. NOT ONE SCRATCH OR DENT! I am very impressed with this phone case!
