The case makes the side camera button very sensitive and the color isn’t grey/gray at all. I’ll be using a different brand from now on.

Fits front jeans pocket.
Slips easily in & out of my front pants pocket. Used same case design for my iPhone 13 Pro Max for 4+ years…iPhone & OtterBox case survived several 30+/ inch drops.

Case is not grippy at all, it slipped out of my hands once and when it fell it cracked my screen protector, did not protect my phone.

Disappointed
this case is very big and bulky compared to others and the camera button gets stuck. It activates the camera randomly and other times does not work. To make matters worse when I tried to return it I was forced to pay for the return shipping myself which cost almost as much as the case.

Stylish and Functional
I had the commuter series on my last version of the iPhone and loved it. I’m super clumsy and drop my phone all the time, but this case always kept it from getting damaged. I just got a new one for my new IPhone 17 Pro Max. I love the two toned purple color (looks great with the navy phone). Since it’s also the commuter series, I expect it to do an equally great job at protecting the new phone (so far so good!).

Ok, not great
Case looks good and is sturdy where the plastic backing is around the phone, but not around the whole phone. The rubber around the buttons on both sides moves easily and is not secure on the phone.

Nice case but bad buttons
Case color was great and liked the looks but the Camera Control button didn’t work. It wasn’t even a sensitivity issue. The button just didn’t work right. Unfortunately I had to return the case. I would be happy to get this case if I could be sure that the button issue has been corrected.

Camera control?
The OtterBox Commuter has always been a “ go to” case for me for many years. However, this case needs a redesign for the 17 Pro/Pro Max. It is a nice protective case, but you will have to completely give up your camera control feature. This case puts pressure on the button, so it’s constantly activated or pressed in. To be completely honest, this is a feature that I could completely give up on my iPhone because it is not that important to me. Thankfully, Apple does give you options to completely disable it so the case will not interfere with it. It’s just a bad design on OtterBox’s part that you can’t completely use every button. I have since returned my case to OtterBox. Better luck next time.

The verdict is in
So far my phone has survived several drops. My screen protector on the hand hasn’t. The last drop resulted with the edge of the screen protector being damaged, thus leading to a cracked corner of the protector. Maybe with a better quality screen protector my review would be better?

Simple and functional, a pleasant surprise
I've always resisted Otterbox cases because of their bulk and difficulty operating the buttons on the phone. However this case doesn't have those problems, and in fact it seems to have no problems at all after a few weeks' use. The buttons work really well and the whole thing fits in my pocket as well as the phone did and it is solidly built and looks great. I'm not sure how well it can protect the camera lenses because they project out of the phone, but it does have a rim around them.
What could be better? Not much. It's a bit difficult to get on the phone. because it has a lip that you have to coax over the edge of the phone. The charging cover gets in the way of charging, but it also gets in the way of lint that has made my phones die, so probably a good compromise.

Loose Fit/Reduced Camera Button Functionality
While the case is attractive, it fits too 1) loosely on the phone and 2) limits proper use of the new iPhone's photo button. 1) Whenever I go to pick up my phone, the rubber on the edge I grab the phone by pulls away from the phone--it's like a loose rubber band around the phone. It doesn't feel secure at all and could easily allow dirt to collect between the sides of the case and the phone itself. It just seems cheap. 2) When I called Apple Support for info on using the new camera button, we found out that it does not work in the case--at least not as designed. You can depress the button but this was only one feature on the new phone camera app--you are supposed to be able to do light taps and double taps or slides and NONE OF THESE features work beneath the rubber covering over the photo button on the phone. Fortunately, these phone features can still be accessed through menus but the Otterbox case designed for this phone apparently made no consideration for the operation of the iPhone 17's photo button features. I am disappointed.
