The instructions were simple to follow. I cannot tell if it is my range from my modem or too much interference, but I have sometimes experienced a bad gaming connection. With the purchase of the AC1900 my megabytes per second (mbps) download speed went from 10 to 65 -- a phenomenal result. Easy installation, which took only minutes. As a photographer, uploading and downloading huge files is critical in getting my work done. The AC1900 is a work-saver as well as bringing an end to the constant consternation I had with my computer.

I bought the AC 1900 because it had a magnetic base and an antenna. It has fantastic throughput for my entire multimedia collection, especially at 5 GHz. It transfers 25 megapixel JPEG's very fast. Highly recommend.

Although it was a little more than your average wireless router, it performs PHENOMENALLY. It is blazingly fast, and takes advantage of the faster 5G speeds. I was skeptical about purchasing a plug-in WiFi adapter (vs. upgrading the motherboard on my desktop) due to the fact my Nighthawk router is on another floor in my townhouse. I've had a great experience with my router so I thought I would try this less expensive way first. Unbelievable performance! I had it hooked up and running in less than 5 minutes. It's day 7. No loss of speed. No lag. No lost connection. It was also a nice bonus not to have to upgrade or replace my existing equipment. The Nighthawk is definitely worth the price and it's one of the few things I've purchased that really does work right out of the box!

After installing (super easy install the Nighthawk AC1900 USB Adapter, after two weeks of use, I have not dropped wi-fi even once. With my previous adaptor, my average drop was about 3 times per week. Definately recommend this product.

I decided to purchase this brand and model because of the features and seemed fairly priced. I really like that it comes with a stand to help keep it out the way. I have never used such a device and did not expect much from it being a USB connection. I am happy to say that it was well worth the money. I recommend this product to anyone interested in a USB Wi-Fi adapter.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worst on the market Easily the worst on the market for gaming (which it is designed and marketed for it can stream fine, high quality and all but the moment you attempt to play any online games, it constantly disconnects. Often it will allow you to settle into a game and then will repeatedly drop connection but the worst part is that sometimes it wont, it will demonstrate that it is capable and then other times it renders games unplayable. Now For the considerable top shelf asking price it is the worst tech product i have ever seen. Unreliable = 0/10

I install the required software from the accompanying CD, plugged my new Nighthawk AC1900 WiFi USB Adapter (A7000) into a USB port on my desktop, and voila, I was connected and online almost instantly. My Internet speed is amazingly fast. I'm beyond thrilled with this product.

It was able to pick up wifi but super frustrating you have to download the drivers first, so you need internet in order to have it boost your wifi, the connection wasn’t great but I was about 40ft from my router so take it as you’d like it did give me internet tho to my pic but did not work well enough to game or have stable connection

I've found that if you update the program past that it doesn't work as well. And this is with it plugged into a windows 10 lap top. I also have a windows xp tower that I have fun with and I thought why not try the adapter on it even though it isn't one of the OSes listed and not only did the adapter work but the program did too! Like I initially stated it works great as long as you don't update the program beyond version 1.0.0.10.

I was told by my Help Desk that I would have to run a cable from my computer to my router (which is in the attic. Joy! Then I found out about Wi-Fi USB adaptors. So, I searched around a bit, then decided that my past experience with NETGEAR routers helped make my decision. And despite the distance between the two devices, I get excellent reception. It is as efficient as a Cat5 cable. I have no complaints at all.

The software is very friendly and it checks for updated drivers before it even installs. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic Adapter Solved Drop of WiFi My old, micro adapter was dropping the Internet frequently, so I replaced it with this one. Upon installation of this device, the problem is solved and my Internet speed is once again fantastic. Added bonus: in addition to what is shown in the photos, it came with a USB extension and a stand, giving additional placement options (and reducing wear and tear on my laptop's USB port. Just be sure you follow the clear installation directions and install the software before plugging the device in.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Years behind MacOS Despite what the box and web says, this device does NOT support 10.8 AND GREATER MacOS. It’s mostly the “or greater” where it fails, because it does not. Netgear’s Support team will recommend you return it to the store you bought it from, which I personally can’t. So I am stuck with a product that does NOT do what the box and instructions say it can. Buyer beware, I was not the first fooled, and won’t be the last. Netgear, please do better.

Computer is faster. Had a problem setting it up (not a net gear problem, microsoft chose to do an update at the very time I was trying a setup. The tech at NetGear was wonderful though very frustrated with the set up. Timing was everything. When the update was done. NetGear went right in and works great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Perfect Match I ended up buying two of these to match my Nighthawk C7000 router/modem. They feed off of each other seamlessly and perfectly. The wps button makes it easy to sync from adapter to router so your up and ready to go in seconds. Surprisingly the distance between my sons computer and router make no difference in connection despite being on different floor levels and a few rooms away, he still gets completely full connection service with the 5G network. Which is amazing because we are gamers and faster stream speeds and great connections take away unnecessary lag and game quality. Not only that but streaming movies also is a breeze with the speed and handling of these AC1900 WiFi adapters. I have never had this great of experience with a wireless adapter in my life. I figured I would take a chance with the Nighthawk C7000 router and loved it so why not match it up with the AC1900 adapters to continue the amazing service I have.

Tried wifi repeaters and powerline adapters but nothing really reached the speed I was looking for. Best I could get was around 40 - 50 Mbps. This adapter was easy to install and quickly got me to ~200Mbps on 5Ghz channel. My laptop was limited to 2.4. Working great!

After getting this Netgear adapter, same speed test site showed results of around 70 mb/s and 5.8 upload. That is over triple the amount and this is from a bedroom that the adapter must go through multiple walls. A reviewer had mentioned picking up wifi signals from blocks away, although I cannot confirm that, I will say this adapter has shown me surrounding wifi connections I had not seen before with the other adapter. Set up is pretty straightforward and easy.

Well now we're at 10.15 (10.14 was released in September of 2018, TWO YEARS AGO, and despite the packaging saying that it works with OSX 10.8 and up, it obviously does not. Do not buy this if you have a Mac!

This mystical force was something I desperately needed to fight the evil assignment due dates that were attacking, but without the power of the WiFi, I had no hope. Then, this sacred relic, the Nighthawk AC1900, was supposed to gift me the power I needed, so I bought it, hooked it up, and indeed, it did as the legends foretold. I was filled with glee as I saw the evil forces of assignments faltering to the power of the newfound WiFi. However, three weeks into using the power, the sacred relic decided that I was no longer worthy. On a more serious note, the device out of the blue started having trouble connecting to my network. It kept connecting to the 2.4g every time I tried to connect to 5g, and every three minutes it would try to connect to 5g, but fail and go back to 2.4g. I couldn't stop the three minute internet disruption, and overall, it was just performing poorly since then. I spent 5 days troubleshooting, contacting tech support, trying to see if it's something with windows or with netgear, but I think I finally figured it out. I tested the device on my friend's computer, and it was doing the same thing. I believe that there was a recent windows update that messed up the netgear program. For five days the program didn't update, and I found that ridiculous. So, I returned the device and got something else that actually works. Netgear makes good hardware, but their software is atrocious. I hope soon netgear pays more attention to their software and makes their stuff more user-friendly, but I highly doubt that will happen anytime soon. Now I must go back to fighting the evil assignment forces from overwhelming the resistance. May the WiFi be with you.

I wanted to take advantage of the new upgraded router I had purchased. The AC1900 was easy to install, has worked flawlessly from the start and has taken my 2.4 Ghz 72 Mbps connection up to 1.3 Gbps on the 5Ghz band!! Exactly what I wanted! My speed is now over 100 mbps, close to what my provider says it is giving me. Could not be more pleased.

I am not necessarily a technologically savvy person and am using this product at home for a desktop computer which doesn’t support Wi-fi so I had to keep plugged into the router which was very inconvenient. I opted to use the WPS button to connect to my Wi-fi and installation took less than 2 minutes. I highly recommend.

However, in Linux the process was more involved. Google found me an article that covered the subject of rt8812au and rt8814au chipset drivers, but compiling and installing the driver gave me some errors which I am still working on.

The setup process was very easy and when I tested the internet speed I found the speed to actually be faster than the speed I was paying for from my ISP. I found that in a large at a significant distance from the router, I needed more antenna to ensure a good connection. The AC1900 did the trick for a stable and blazing fast connection. Next purchase...Netgear Nighthawk AX router!

Before I bought the Ac1900 my pc would constantly drop the WiFi and I would have to do the windows troubleshooting every time to fix it. Now I have not had to fix It once. Very happy with this product.

The speed was great when I got it connected initially but the adapter regularly lost connectivity and wanted to use WPS to connect regardless of whether I let Windows manage the adapter. It became such a pain that I returned it.

After self troubleshooting and multiple phone calls over days to my provider, it was discovered that my original modem was deleted from their system; the phone modem I had would not provide internet and three sessions of reconfiguring two separate modems were of no use. In the end, the fourth reconfig started working; however, I now had to connect my pc to the new relocated modem/router. Rather than rewiring the house, I chose the Nighthawk AC1900 Wi-Fi USB Adapter (A7000) to reconnect. The install was painless. The device was well designed and the magnetic base is an exceptional addition. The connection works flawlessly and the 5g provides the high speeds necessary for work. I recommend the Nighthawk for anyone needing a great wireless connection. My ISP on the otherhand...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Upgrade from AC1200 I upgraded from the AC1200 about 1 month ago. So far the speed has is more than double what it used to be the majority of the time. With the AC1900 I have a connection speed ranging from about 120mbps-250Mbps. Compared to a range of around 10-60 with my old AC1200. I am set up fairly far from my router, and have had problems with many different )less expensive) adapters. Just spend the extra 30 or 50 bucks on a MUCH faster and more reliable wifi adapter, and end all your speed/connection issues once and for all.

Netgear like a few others seems to have little interest in working with the Linux community. There are no drivers available through Netgear and the device is not even acknowledged when plugged into a USB port. Drivers can be compiled but it's a pain and they aren't all that effective. If you're a Linux user in need of an adapter, I suggest looking elsewhere. There are other companies that provide hardware that works with multiple operating systems, Netgear isn't one of them.

I always have used a WiFi extender in our office but I bought this in the hopes that our farthest classroom could have stable WiFi and this beast came through! The classroom was always complaining that when it is music time the kids would be so sad because the WiFi was not strong enough to keep playing the songs it would cycle and lag. We were experiencing 2-3 mbps and >300ping whereas a laptop on the same desk was getting far better. I have to say I'm very impressed with the range and the speed of the connection. The signal has to travel through several walls. I'm connecting it to a Nighthawk AX120. They are beautiful together. I put my antivirus in silent mode, ran the disc to install the drivers and had a seamless install. It will also update fairly quickly, so I went ahead and ran the update, as well. I didn't want to mess with having to purchase another router on top of already having home networking, or a WiFi extender. I went with this adapter, which is higher in price, but well worth the money, and the size was just fine with me. Runs very smooth, especially on clean machines like I keep mine. It's like being hardwired! Awesome adapter...

So far so good no dropped connections since installation! Which is very important considering that my wife has been working remotely from home since March of 2020.

I frequently dropped my Internet connection, while my wife continued blithely continued online. Since having the NetGear antenna, I haven't dropped my connection a single time! The router is shared buy both of us , and has to pass through two walls and a door !. I thought I would have to get my own wifi, but I now get even better speed and reception than her!

Finally called support after reinstalling and trying to download the update, first off the cd then by the website. First was told to cancel the update that I was trying to download then try and redownload it. Plugged it into the Ethernet and it downloaded instantly. Then customer service walked me trying different things to try and get some speed. Nothing still .01Mbps. Called ended with customer service telling me to returning it for another one at the store. Switched it out for a different one and it worked as intended so far.

I've been trying to find fixes but I've came across nothing. Yes it has high speeds, but it is AWFUL when it comes to staying connected. The worst most expensive Adapter in the market.

On a trip to visit family in Europe, I set it up on my grandson's gaming computer. His room was at a lower level and the house had concrete walls and floors His gaming experience was vastly improved and he wanted to buy this from me. Instead I gave him one as a Christmas gift which he still raves about.

(my prior speed from an N adapter was 20). This adapter gets solid 100-114 Mbps !!! Through three sheetrock walls and floor to ceiling wood cabinetry.

So I thought I needed a quick upgrade. I wanted to know more about this product and the employee who attended me told me that I just would need to download the software and connect the USB. I would not need a secondary WiFi or a subscription to use this device. Its free WiFi and I can take it anywhere. He reassured me it was THAT easy. It surely was not. It was so disappointing because I had assignments due the same day. It seems this is like a WiFi boosts for an existing WiFi connection

They were very helpful, patient, and professional and they seemed truly concerned about my problem. I had been dealing with slow internet speeds at home even though I have a great plan. When I attached this device, my Wi-Fi went from 72 Mbps to 585 Mbps! I love it. Saves me a ton of time.

It randomly decides to disconnect itself from WiFi due to an automatic band switch, that the software provides no details on or ways to disable this setting. The A7000 also decides to turn itself off with no warning. It randomly completely disconnects itself from my PC and doesn't turn back on for about 2 mins. So far, YouTube have provided more details about how to resolve these issues than Netgear, but even then, I still have issues with connection.

I have read and tried all the solutions I found on the web but still suffering over 3000ms pings to my router. I contacted Netgear last week and still awaiting a reply! Im lost as what to do ? I wish I had never bought the Adapter now and stuck with a brand I knew and trusted. The thing is I really want to like this product but finding it harder and harder every day!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does not work well This is a relatively expensive wifi adapter. For the price, I would expect it to work out of the box. Simply put, it doesn't. I had to research why the wifi was disconnecting every 30 seconds or so and found out I had to change an automatic USB switching setting in my computer device manager settings (there was nothing about this in the manual! It only connects to the slower 2.4ghz service on my Verizon FIOS gigabit home wifi router--it shows "connected, no internet" for the 5 ghz service. The only plus to this adapter is the antenna; it shows a signal strength about 30 - 40 % greater than my previous adapter. Mind you, I've had to go back to my previous adapter because this one just doesn't work well.

The overall experience with macOS earlier too, was at best, poor. Strictly advising against using this device for macOS or Linux based systems.

It finally got to the point that I said heck with it and return it to the store. This was based on the fact that I went to the website originally to get the software and did not install from the disc. I had no other options for upgrade left. I would consider buying this again if I had options for upgrade made available, but at this point I'll just go back to my old adapter or look for something different, I'm not sure at this time.

It only makes sense that if you use Nighthawk Routers or Orbi Routers then you should have an AC adapter that makes the most of those devices, and the AC7000 surely does. This is on a desktop however, which may be OK if you don't mind seeing an adapter that is almost as big as the computer :) For me it wasn't an issue but I wouldn't recommend this for a laptop or desktop you're moving around frequently. Other than that this thing is blazing fast!

It will not connect automatically for a while and then it will start working again. It usually connects to the router--but takes it much longer to connect to the internet. Customer service is difficult to reach and has never helped--just points me to online articles.

After purchasing this one, I haven't had any problems and all and the speeds are great! I would buy this again without hesitation.

Not sure why, but a couple times it automatically connects to the 2.4 network. I can deal with changing it if I need to.

Therefore I bought the A7000 adapter to hopefully obtain a stable connection. Not only did the adapter achieve this, the speed on my 5 ghz band doubled, obtaining the equivalent maximum speed being paid for. This was surprising, given that my router is a floor below. Very strong adapter. I highly recommend it.

As a PC gamer having a strong internet connection is a high priority. This adapter has been flawless so far. I have not experienced any lag spikes (except those from the server side. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Netgear Nighthawk AC1900 Excellent USB Adapter Recently my Asus AC1300 Dongle just died and I decided to try another brand. The Netgear Nighthawk AC1900 was on Sale so I grabbed one. The installation was Super Easy. I didn't install the software from the CD but just downloaded the latest software and drivers from their website. I installed the AC1900 and it worked flawlessly in conjunction with my ASUS AC-3200 Router. Actually better than the Asus Dongle ever did. Much more stable without drop outs. Now the Netgear dongle isn't small. Actually it's pretty HUGE and has a magnetic base that you can stick on the side or back or top of your metal computer case and it won't move from there. Just don't put it close to your Harddrive. Some see the size of the unit as a negative. I actually like it. It's solid and Stable and the drivers actually work which I couldn't say about the ASUS dongle I had. I give it 5 Stars for speed, stability and reliability.

I had built a new desktop that was connected by a cat5 cable to the router in the den. I began a search for a usb solution and came upon the AC1900 and its decent reviews. Installed quickly and easily to 2.4 or 5 network and have had no issues to date. Distance to router in single story home is ~75ft.

Perfect for older systems or laptops that are limited in speed due to out dated cards (adapters. At home I fly with 197 Mbps with 200 M service and at work on this laptop an amazing 1.75 to 1800 Mbps with 2 Gig service. Awesome with my Nighthawk C7000 (AC1900 Modem Router) at home, no doubt these 2 together make amazing surfing ! Love the cradle and usb cord so it isn't in the way or can't bump it and have it crashing to the floor. Amazing reception when extended on cradle and elevated at a higher position. The adapter works well with the Netgear Nighthawk AC1900 modem router combo that I bought. (It's so much better than my old Xfinity router. This modem router combo is perfectly compatible with Xfinity Blast internet, by the way.) My desktop gets the Wi-Fi signal without any problems now, and it runs like a much younger computer. This is a high quality adapter that exceeded my expectations. It was worth every penny!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great performance and easy to install Since I decided to upgrade our router with a Nighthawk X10 AD7200 WiFi Router (R9000), I looked at the wi-fi adapter offerings from Netgear and chose to purchase a Nighthawk AC1900 Wi-Fi USB Adapter (A7000) for my desktop PC. This was a replacement for an Intel 7260HMW dual band M.2 connected device. The A7000 is a very nice unit and the accompanying software made the installation to my Windows 10 PC fast and easy. I immediately noticed that the A7000 was quicker when downloading and uploading large files than my previous adapter. I was so satisfied with the performance of the A7000 that I ordered another unit for my wife's computer. I would definitely recommend the A7000!

The only problem I have encountered is that it conflicts with my USB mouse occasionally but restarting my computer solves the problem.

No lag or spotty internet like the previous adapter I used (different brand but had a lot of great reviews), Yes it is a bit on the large side but my computer is in my desk and the adapter sits on top of my computer. The adapter seems to be a work horse. If there is any change to the use I will update my review. So far I recommend this product.

My WiFi router is in the living room and has some nasty obstructed corners to negotiate to get to the spare bedroom for the computer. Boom! I situated the adapter for optimal Rx/Tx (in it's cradle and I am pulling a non-wavering, steady 1300Mbps on the 5Gz AC band. I verified this with the Microsoft adapter monitor and it verifies 1.3 Gbps...Amazing! On top of it all, is that the software, driver, and adapter are providing rock-solid steady performance. I highly recommend this adapter. Good job NETGEAR!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great but has a glitch This is the fastest adapter I have ever had but the glitch is that I have internet speeds of 400 mbs or over and when I shut down windows the next time I start the computer It loses wifi speed until I either disable the adapter and restart the computer or reset the network and it gives full speed again until the next shut down of Windows 10 pro.

It connected flawlessly with my Windows 8.1 computer, right out of the box. Highly recommended.

We share wifi with a building 50 feet away and my laptop was getting one bar if any through the two walls. My super tech-savvy brother recommended this, I got it, was able to set it up and install it alone within minutes despite not having a CD drive in my laptop, and have had full bars since, no matter where I go in the apartment. Don't even have to put the antenna up. Only con is it is quite bulky - it sticks out about five inches from the laptop which means it's always bumping into the edge of the armchair I usually sit in, and it's a full 2 inches wide which means it blocks the SD card slot right next to the USB slot on my laptop. Not a deal-breaker for me, but could be an issue for many. Overall highly recommend though.

It takes a while to reconnect to my Wi-Fi and it keeps on disconnecting every now and then. I have other devices that are connected to the same Wi-Fi and they're not having a single issue. Contacted support and they said my device is more than 90 days from purchase date and require support subscription to troubleshoot further even the device comes with one year hardware warranty.

Most of the time the issue takes 1 to 2 youtube videos but mine currently has take all i can find on youtube and on other websites. Their customer service is pretty bad as you have to pay for it.

I was used to hardwire for my desktop and had to come up with an alternative. This fit the bill wonderfully. It was easy to install and worked perfectly out of the gate. My games and net surfing are perfect with no loss of signal. I've used Netgear products before and they are excellent. Great job Nergear, I'm a VERY happy camper and you will be too! No more wires for me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from More than Doubled my bandwidth access I have a 1gb internet Pipe. Based on testing my old wireless adapter only allowed me to use 56 - 72mbps of all that bandwidth. The user experience was noticeably reduced. This AC1900 wireless network adapter more than doubled my wireless bandwidth opening up access to 240mbps of bandwidth as indicated by the same speed test. The use experience is awesome. Of course mileage may vary - I use a USB 3.1 port for the interface and my router is 10ft away.

I tried one last time moving the USB connection to a USB3 and maybe this helped even though the instructions say to install drivers with unit unplugged. I finally made some headway and even got the installation to work. Not sure why? Bonus points for calling tech support and actually being able to talk and understand a person. The unit seems to be working flawlessly now that I'm past the installation.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wifine! I saw an immediate increase in throughput on my main computer, I was typically getting 150-170 gbps on my old adapter and instantly this went up to 349! The signal is also stronger, wish I had this a long time ago!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Constant software failure Do not buy review. This usb adapter is an utter failure. When you first install it, you will get +600Mbps. After several days, it will slow itself down to 200Mbps. Netgear support is useless. Their only solution is to reinstall the software. Have done that so much I have lost count. Only thing tech support is good for is reminding you have 1 hour of support left.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Phenomenal USB 3.0 Dual Band WiFi Adapter My Desktop has limited PCIe space due to my graphics and sound card, so an internal PCI WiFi module was not an option. After some research and reading hundreds of reviews, I found the AC1900 had the best overall rating. I went ahead and purchased the adapter. I am so incredibly satisfied and happy with my purchase. The adapter has kept a solid connection and never disconnected. Thanks NetGear for making this product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works but Buggy It works for a while then either the driver crashes or it decides to unmount itself as I hear the USB unplugged sound. It might come back. Lately it has been difficult to get it the Genie to run on startup. Today I had to physically unplugged the adapet twice to get the genie to work to get online.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wow. What a Difference I order this adapter after try another brand that really did not make a difference. However the AC1900 Wi-Fi USB Adapter. Did more than Satisfy the need and more for my Laptop, it also. Improved the Wi-Fi for the TV which the next room over from my Home Office. No more buffer on movies, streaming and other internet devices. I was extremely impressed with the difference. Faster Upload and Download speed were 2x it's previous speed. Good by spinning circles! I would Highly recommend this device to anyone who want's better performance without the bigger price tag. Thank you NETGEAR Nighthawk! (As a side note, I run Windows 10).
