Really Great Gaming Laptop
This computer feels premium, and while I was worried I would feel like I was missing out not upgrading to the 4090 version I truly do not feel like I am missing anything with the 4070. It blows my Series S out of the water, and the variety of games on PC is endless. I haven't owned a PC since I was in middle school, been eclusively buying/using apple products since buying a G4 tower in 8th grade. I still own a mac for music production purposes, but it is great to own a solid PC as well - especially for gaming. This particular laptop been an excellent re-entry into PC land.

Neat but I got a bad laptop
Got a bad product:
Thermal issue - lost 30 to 50% performance to thermal throttling + chronic shutdowns to save itself whenever the CPU die got past 113C.
Gimmicks are neat and awesome.
The product I received couldn't deliver the promise.

Powerful and portable laptop
This laptop has been great so far for software development and gamedev, plenty powerful and still portable enough to use on the couch comfortably. The screen and keyboard are great, and pairing it with the generic usb-c Lenovo dock worked great for use on my desk too. Very happy with this purchase!

Power and Smooth Gameplay
The Legion 7i Gen 9 Intel (16?) with RTX™ 4070 is a beast—smooth gameplay, awesome graphics, and crazy fast performance. It runs cool even during intense sessions, and the build feels legit without being bulky. It’s exactly what I wanted in a gaming laptop.

Legion 7i: Now I Can Lose at 240 FPS.
I bought the Legion 7i Gen 9 expecting solid performance. What I got was a portable war machine disguised as a laptop. This thing boots faster than my microwave heats leftovers. I sneezed, and it opened Steam. Games? It runs everything I throw at it like it's offended I even asked.
We're talking buttery-smooth FPS on max settings, laughably low temps thanks to the cooling system that I think could be used on a SpaceX rocket, and a keyboard that lights up like a unicorn-themed disco.
It’s surprisingly quiet for a machine with this much power unless you crank the fans up manually, in which case you might want to warn the cat first. Build quality: Sturdy enough to survive my desk tantrums during lag spikes (which, let’s be honest, are now 100% my fault and not the laptop’s).
Battery life is decent for a gaming laptop don’t expect miracles, but it’ll hold its own when you’re not pushing triple A titles. And the display, Crispy, vibrant, and smoother than my pickup lines in Skyrim.
Final thoughts: If this laptop were a person, it’d be that friend who shows up with snacks, beats every game, and still helps you finish yours. 10/10 would recommend assuming you’re ready to ascend to Demi God greatness.

Solid laptop I plan to use for years
I needed to upgrade to a laptop with stronger graphics than what my previous Yoga had. Most of the time I'm plugged into a couple of large monitors and use the system for business and audio editing. My Yoga is great and will still be in use for travel because of it's portability, touch screen, pen, etc... but I needed more 'beef' with my office arrangement. The Legion with the RTX 4070 does the trick. The battery life is only a concern if I'm traveling but was a lesser priority considering I'm plugged in most of the time. I've yet to have a single issue with overheating (something I worried about with my Yoga when it was pushing to the monitors) and the i9 is more than enough to handle the audio and occasional video I manipulate. This is such a solid laptop and I plan to baby this thing and use it right on through the rest of the decade.
I should note, I first tried a ProArt that was comparable in price and had a beautiful picture, but it was wildly unstable with constant crashes and a finnicky sound i/o. The Legion has none of those issues, so the ProArt went back and Lenovo keeps my loyalty.

Solid, powerful machine with good linux support
Solid, well-made machine. I was able to toss my arch linux ssd into my new 7i and have it working with only some minimal tweaks to my bootloader config. Very good linux support. I'm running a 96gb RAM kit on this thing with zero issues. My only complaints are: the laptop can get pretty hot, and it smudges with fingerprints like no other. Also, the chassis scratches easily, so grab a skin or a case.

Not bad but runs hot
So my last Lenovo was awesome, This one not so much. Two primary issues the edges of the aluminum of the keyboard deck were damaged, not bad enough to send it back but there were two 1/4 scrapes on it that your fingers catch on, more seriously is that when processing the case becomes almost unbearably hot. Unfortunately I believe that this is due to the thinness of the laptop and probably is just a feature of the laptop.

Beats the competition, but still a niche product.
Like any laptop on the market, there are pros, cons, and compromises. My intent when buying this device was to more or less replace my desktop and have a single, multi-tool device that could do work (programming, security, writing, creating) and also do some okay gaming on the side. (I really am not much of a gamer but I do enjoy League and Indie Steam Games from time to time). I have had the device for about 6 months now so here are my thoughts.
Overall I am pretty happy with the device when I compare it to other gaming laptops on the market. The bright, high refresh rate display, the track-pad, the keyboard, and the aesthetics are all excellent. The repair-ability and upgrade-ability really set it apart fro the competition and I have been a loyal Lenovo/Thinkpad enjoyer. I wanted something sleek and capable and the Legion delivers on that.
That being said, there are some things that I wish were a bit better. The thermals being a HUGE factor here. And it may not even be entirely on Lenovo for this, but just idling in Windows 11 makes the device VERY warm. God forbid you actually play a very light game on this like Overwatch or League of Legends with all of the graphics turned all the way DOWN, the top part of the laptop becomes too hot to touch. It will legitimately burn you. Regardless of whatever thermal tolerances were stated, I don't think that bodes will for the longevity of the device. However the thermals when running on Linux and playing the exact same games on the exact same settings is 10x better. Laptop stays cool without the fans ramping up to full speed. Just another reason to hate Windows I suppose, but I am surprised laptop manufacturers are becoming comfortable and okay with these kinds of temperatures on their devices.
The Intel chip is an energy hog, even at idle. I know that you simply can't have amazing battery life and an extremely powerful machine all in one package. But the battery life is SO bad that I have considered going back to having a dedicated gaming tower and a normal laptop. Even on Linux, at 60hz refresh and 80% brightness, you get, at MOST about 2 hours. Sometimes 3 if you really are doing nothing on this thing. I will go sit outside on my porch to enjoy some youtube, music, and programming, and I will go from 100% to 50% in like 30 minutes. I literally can not use this device like a laptop at all. It has to be plugged in at all times. And I kind of knew that based on other reviews when I purchased, but didn't realize just how inconvenient that would actually be. It prompted me to buy a second charger, just so I could have one for my desk and one in my living room, just because of how annoying it was to constantly move it with me wherever I went.
Another note is that you should 100% get the 32gb model unless you intend to upgrade it out of the box, which is what I did. I bought the 16gb model because it was cheaper, knowing I was going to put a 64gb kit in it. 16gb is not nearly enough for a device like this. With how terrible Windows 11 is, this thing idles at like 12gb Ram usage. Get 32gb or plan to upgrade.
All in all, I still like it and it is still my daily driver that I use all day every day. For something that aesthetically passes for a thin and light, I really wish it was more portable. But if I am honest, I am fantasizing about having a normal, long-battery life laptop on a pretty regular basis.

Just a Beast
Great choice when on sale. Use custom mode with full fan speed in Lenovo Vantage if you run recent titles of games on ultra graphics. Keep this beast cool just like that.
And if you didn't know, you can also upgrade RAM, SSD (2 slots), wifi card, and replace your battery easily on this laptop.
Though, choose a model with 4080rtx or higher for long-term performance (if you don't mind the 330w battery and high power consumption)
Overall, great product!

Great gaming laptop but with some issues
Great gaming laptop with a few issues.
For some reason the CPU is factory overvolted at the 58x to +98mv. There is no way to remove this overvolt in BIOS, so third party software like Throttlestop is necessary to stop the CPU cores from reaching high voltages over 1.67v. There are numerous reports of this issue on Reddit and elsewhere.
Another issue is that the fingerprint reader has a very bright light on it which cannot be turned off. This interferes with things such as watching a movie in the dark. Third-party light dimming stickers can be used to solve this.
Otherwise it is an excellent gaming laptop.

Best purchase I've made in years!!!
As an avid tech enthusiast, I recently had the pleasure of using the Lenovo Legion 7i Gen 9 Intel (16") with the powerful RTX 4070 graphics card. Let me tell you, this laptop is an absolute beast that seamlessly combines performance, aesthetics, and versatility.
The first thing that caught my eye was the sleek and premium design. The aluminum chassis feels robust, and the slim bezels around the 16-inch QHD display provide an immersive viewing experience. The RGB-backlit keyboard adds a touch of flair, making it equally suitable for work and play.
Whether I was crunching numbers in Excel, running complex simulations, building visuals in Microsoft Power BI, or compiling code, the Legion 7i handled everything with ease. The Intel Core i9 processor and 32GB of RAM ensured smooth multitasking, and the laptop never broke a sweat.
Gaming on the Legion 7i was a revelation. The RTX 4070 delivered jaw-dropping graphics, and the high refresh rate of the display made every frame silky smooth. Titles like COD MW3 ran flawlessly at ultra settings.
I conduct video editing often and I have appreciated the color accuracy of the display. Editing 4K footage was a breeze, thanks to the powerful GPU and ample storage (1TB SSD).
Lenovo's cooling system deserves a special mention. Even during extended gaming sessions, the laptop remained cool, and the fans were surprisingly quiet.
The Legion 7i offers a generous selection of ports. Whether I was connecting external monitors or transferring large files, I never felt limited.
Considering its power-packed internals, the battery life was respectable. I managed around **6 hours** of mixed usage, which is impressive for a gaming laptop of this caliber.
Conclusion
In summary, the Lenovo Legion 7i Gen 9 Intel (16") is a versatile powerhouse that excels in every department. Whether you're a gamer, content creator, or a professional, this laptop delivers unmatched performance. It's not just a tool; it's an experience.

Fine, but lots of small issues
Overall performance is okay. Lots of small issues— lag under light load, biometrics not properly set up, audio stuttering, etc. that were mostly resolved after Googling around. Overall experience is not as smooth or snappy as the Legion 5.
WiFi card (Realtek) is awful. I recommend replacing it with an Intel card as soon as possible. Not sure why Lenovo uses such a bad component for an expensive laptop.

Beautiful design, excellent build, gorgeous display (3200X2000 165Hz), plenty of power, 32GB of RAM and a sufficient GPU in the 4060 make this an excellent gamer and photo editor. Honest openion Legion 7i Gen9 core i9 RTX 4070
This is simply best looking machine and works great as well and importantly no finger prints on the surface and white really has a nice finish. The vantage software works great as usual. the only problem I had was with the spectrum in the vantage software which control lights there are two modes(audio bounce & audio ripple effect) that respond to audio and it only works if the audio plays on inbuild speaker, I can say it can be fixed with software and the nahimic that works really good with my steelseries headset simply love it. finally I can is I am enjoying this machine Legion 7i Gen9. And one more last thing the fans are loud I mean it when on heavy use. I was playing GTA V in silent mode geting like 110-160fps it was crazy good recomended settings.

Nice sleek laptop, a little heavy, but for a gaming laptop, it's lightweight. Good graphics, a little laggy without a cooling fan, but overall a lot of space and good use for multitasking and for school.

Dang Near Perfect
This laptop is great and almost perfect. They packed so much in a thin and light chasis and the white looks so good. Things I really like: Fn hot keys light up, the amazing keys and feel of typing, the 3k display, RGB keys, port options especially the SD card slot, lit up power and HDMI outlets, the boot up speed, the GPU and CPU power, the overall fit and finish, and the possibilities of what this laptop can do. What I don't like: the edges are sharp and immediately dig into your forearms when typing, the antiglare screen (I prefer gloss screens), it's a premium laptop with terrible read and write speeds for the SD card slot, the typical marketing stickers, and the typical bloatware. Just stop with the stickers and bloatware already. What I wish it had: a 4k OLED gloss display, the Legion 9 carbon fiber lid in white with the Legion RGB logo, and better quality speakers.

The Legion 7i Gen 9 Intel is more than just a gaming laptop; it's a powerful tool for computer science students and professionals. Its robust hardware, including the latest Intel processor and Nvidia RTX 4060 (In my case) graphics card, effortlessly handles complex tasks like: Software Development, 3D Modeling and Rendering, and Video Editing and Production.

I use this beautiful piece of art for day trading and media editing. It operates seamlessly, however it runs hot for no reason. The problem can be mitigated if you turn the fans all the way up, but you will have to deal with fan noise.

A great laptop at a great money saving sales price
I love my Lenovo Legion 7i gen 9 laptop. I bought the Eclipse Black with the Intel i9-14900 CPU, 4070 GPU, 32 GB RAM and 1 TB SSD. I have added a second 1 TB SSD so far. Very simple to do. I've kept the laptop running 24/7 for nearly a months now. I use it during the day and run burn in software overnight. The laptop is working fantastic.
I was able to buy this during a sale and I was able to get a super price.
I am very happy with my purchase!

Best of both worlds
Powerhouse of a laptop.
Combines best of both world's with Intel and Nvidia rtx 4070.
Visuals and FPS look even better in games with DLSS 3 technology.
Battery life of the notebook is average and can be extended by adjusting Vantage and Windows settings.
Fans get loud and power button gets hot on performance mode (Most games may not need it)
Camera switch adds great convenience for video calls and conferencing
Love the keyboard lights on eclipse model
Overall a great laptop which can run most of all AAA games today in 2k resolution on High/very high/ultra
If you are looking for a gaming laptop under 2k, this is a no Brainer.
Possible cons
Matte screen
Avg Battery
Heating issues, Fan noise

On the fence with this purchase
Laptop is quick and came with lots of bells and whistles. Had it less than a month and for some reason battery only now charges to 93%? Thinking it's not going to last long before a battery replacement is needed. To extend the warranty is over $140. Seems odd to already be worrying at a battery in under 30 days of owning a product.

First Gaming Laptop Does Not Disappoint
This is my first ever gaming laptop and i am super happy. The design is beautiful and everything is super well put together. My only complaints is the finish is very prone to showing fingerprints. The paint job on the keys also seems rather inconsistent. 10/10 would recommend though!

Legion always exceeds expectations.
I got into the Legion family 6 years ago with the Legion Y530 that is still working perfectly to this day, and I can not see myself using other laptops. The 7i is perfect for me as a gamer and software dev as it can run everything I need. I dont want to review the speed of the laptop as the benchmarks have all the information people may need but IT IS FAST. What I like the most about it is the lasting battery life and how cool and slick it looks. Another thing to take notice is how easily upgadeable the laptop is which makes them somewhat future proof as you can increase the memory as you see fit easily at home (all it takes is a screwdriver).
One thing I dislike about it(like any other gaming laptop) is that it heats up quickly while playing heavy games. The top part of the keyboard(where the power button is) can become very hot in heavy use and yet the keyboard remains comfortable to the touch. I would reccomend using it with a cooler underneath for the long run but other than that I have no other concerns.
Absolutely love it.

Powerful Laptop - Poor Stability
After having this laptop for a little over a year I'm a bit torn about the performance. It is very powerful, and works great - sometimes. The stability is pretty low, and I've had issues with the laptop crashing and the display settings not working properly. I've worked with our IT provider to look through everything and they cannot find an issue either. It does chew through the battery pretty quick too, it lasts about 2 hours.

I purchased this Legion 7i 16" to replace my Dell XPS 15 which after 6 years died. So far after about 3 weeks with my new computer, I am very pleased with the results. I basically use the device as a home computer (microsoft office, e-mail, online banking) with some light gaming such as Diablo IV. I knew when I bought it that it was more computer than I really need, but I wanted one that would have the speed, power and display that would keep me up to date with future needs as new applications come out. I like the keyboard and the display is excellent. The keyboard does get warmer than I am used to even with light use. It would have been beneficial to have a sub program that walked me through the basic keyboard shortcuts but I used co-pilot to address what I wasn't familiar with. Overall so far I am very pleased with this computer and I am sure that it will handle all my future needs.

Marvelous Design
What stood out the most to me was the build quality, which not only looks great, but also gives it a more premium feel than I expected. It has a slim & sleek profile increasing its portability at the cost of a rather small amount of power and performance due to hardware thermal limitations and regulations.

Overall, Excellent Value at a Great Price
Powerful laptop with a beautiful screen and full aluminum chassis with some caveats. I wish the trackpad was centered, but since I plan to use a laptop stand and external mouse and keyboard, I can live with it - might be a plus for left handed folks. After some adjustment in the settings re when plugged in/when using battery power, I stretched the battery to 7 hours. Some other caveats: It can sometimes be slow upon waking up in showing me the log-in screen. Also, there may be slight graphical bugs at 165Hz resolution i.e. flickering menu screens. If this is your first Lenovo, you can probably get 2 or 3 discount codes too.

Fingerprint/power button too hot to touch
Great product. Powerful and beautiful machine, but entire chassis can get quite hot to even in idle mode, especially the power button. It can be a burning pain on the finger if the fingerprint sensor doesn't detect me in the first touch, thus having to touch the button couple more times before being verified. That being said, most of the time, the fingerprint sensor is quick at verifying my identity.

Perfect computer!
Amazing computer! Super quick and handles anything you throw at it with ease. Touchpad is fantastic, keyboard is perfect. Compared both screens and went with higher resolution at lower framerate / max brightness, as the framerate drop is imperceptible while the screen is noticeably more detailed. I prefer buttery smooth at high res over buttery smooth at 1080p. The display is bright enough that I've never had it on max brightness anyway. 4070 is ideal balance of performance / power. Although I selected this laptop for some non-negotiable features, I would much rather have the Ryzen chip instead of the Intel one, but it wasn't an option. Good despite the bloatware
4 stars for general performance and usability. Minus one star for the unrelenting pop-up ads that manifest in a manner that is hard to kill without interacting with them directly (for example, they don't show up in the app list on Alt-Tab). Between Windows and Lenovo, there's a lot of stubborn bloatware to clean up. Time to install Linux.

Performance not as expected.
I don't understand the hype of this laptop....I wish I have kept the Rog G16, which performances so much better.
Pro: more portable than other gaming laptops, less ports on the sides (two at the back), the look is less gaming.
Con: can get really hot, not so good speaker, keyboard does not wakeup after sleeping mode, mouse acting up after sleeping mode, finger login sometimes does not work...I think the startup is kinda slow too....

The best laptop I've ever owned
The Legion backs a lot of impressive features, including a powerful 14th Gen Intel Core i9 processor and a Nvidia RTX 4070 GPU into an elegant svelte chassis. And despite being a 16-inch system, the 4.5-pound notebook is the thinnest gaming laptop in Lenovo's lineup, making for a pretty portable system.
It looks slick, stylish laptop that is portable and looks good in any setting. The high-quality display that’s bright, vivid, and color accurate is next to none. And last but not least, it has a comfortable, colorful keyboard too. All in all, I'm very happy to buy this laptop.

Not great customer care
The laptop functions great so far. The real let down is the customer care.
I purchased my laptop and had it sent to a hotel I was staying during a work trip. I noticed manufacturing damage on the laptop once I started using it and contacted customer care by email to get a ticket going which then required a call. I was told that the laptop would be shipped to the hotel if I exchanged it which I explained repeatedly that I didn't live there and wouldn't be there to receive it since I'm traveling. They them suggested to return it since I was within my 30 days and contact customer care to which I explained I wouldn't be able to return it until I'm home since I'm on a trip and that would be past 30 days. I asked if there was any other option to resolve my issue and I was essentially told no.
I've read about how terrible the customer care is, but this really made me realize how terrible it can feel when you're trying to resolve an issue on a premium product and don't receive the support you expect.

No customer support
I had multiple software issues off the bat. I called customer support and they said they can't help and someone can contact me from tech support will call back in up to 48hrs. Taking 2 days to call back a customer is a crazy estimate, but no one called anyways. I had to reinstall windows 4 times for it to take, and had to reinstall internet drivers. I bought the laptop with all the options. It is a shame that I had so many software issues and more of a shame that no one has ever contacted me or followed up when i needed help.

Great Laptop
I’m very impressed with this Lenovo laptop. It’s sleek, visually stunning, and performs exceptionally well. However, it can get a bit noisy when running at full power. Thankfully, the "Quiet Mode" helps manage that effectively.
One thing to note is the charger. While it provides a lot of power, it's not a standard type, meaning you may face compatibility issues with other chargers if they aren't powerful enough. Overall, it's a fantastic laptop with minor trade-offs related to charging and noise.

Great Laptop
This laptop has served me great so far its performance is amazing and I haven't had any issues and for a gaming laptop that packs such a powerful processor its battery life is I would say on a higher tier than its competitors. The GPU performance is also great and I haven't had any issues with that either. The charging brick is quite a heavy and big brick but to supply the powerful CPU and GPU it comes with its justified but if you are looking for pure performance while still having pretty good mobility this laptop is great. It looks great, its very sturdy and fairly thin for gaming laptops with such specs.

Buying Legion 7i Gen 9 was excellent decision
Purchasing this laptop has proven to be an excellent choice. Its performance and quality are outstanding. My primary need was a laptop for running finance platforms, but I also desired one that could rival desktop performance with dual high-resolution screens for browsing and streaming. While I might game in the future, the RTX's 3000 CUDA cores will be beneficial for video file processing. This aesthetically pleasing gaming laptop is versatile for various tasks. The mobile 4060 version actually features the AD107 architecture GPU, identical to the chip in the P series workstation with the 2000Ada GPU. However, pricing a P workstation with similar specifications would cost between $3,400 to $4,000 CAD. I upgraded to 3k resolution screen for extra $35, screen is so sharp it looks like it has a depth to it, very nice screen.
I didn't feel I need 4070 GPU for extra $290 upgrade, but I got all other upgrades 32GB ram, 1TB disk, Corei9, 3k lcd. In my opinion Lenovo laptops are the best choice. My corporate laptops are Lenovo's, and I never experienced any issues with any of them like I did with 2 other major brands.

Great gaming laptop
Love this laptop, I have always had great reviews for Lenovo products and I'm going to add this one to my list as well. Looks great, I like the clean basic look of this gaming laptop, it definitely stands apart from most of the other gaming laptops on the market, usually they are quite flashy. This laptop is also quite compact for having a 16" screen. The screen has great resolution and a nice slim bezel. My only complaint is the paint/coating on the computer, it is terrible with fingerprints.

Strong performance, very good quality and built. This is my 2nd Legion i7 and the last one was AMD I bought 2 years ago and my daughter took it. I have one Lenovo thinkpad which I bought in 2011 and it still working as of today and only have the battery replaced once and never have any problem. I give Lenovo product AAA grade.

Stunning laptop w/ crippling update & terrible CS
This was my first Lenovo laptop purchase for personal use (I have a ThinkPad from work) and after reading up on everything I could about Legion, I was pretty excited. It looked stunning and was definitely my style vibe of stealth gaming as it does not scream 'gaming laptop' when the RGB keyboard lighting is off, but when on, it is go time. After a week of just casual use, I was picking out which Steam game to christen this baby with (Forza Horizon 5) and decided to check for any updates. Lenovo Vantage found a BIOS update, and that was the bringer of doom.
After I allowed the update to be installed over the next ~20 mins, I called it a night and was planning on starting the game up in the morning. Only for my wife who was sitting on the other end of the table in the morning to mention there was a weird smell coming from the laptop (since the vents are blowing in her direction). On inspection, the closest I could describe the smell coming from the vents in the back was a weird fishy smell - which I recalled is associated with electrical fires so I immediately shut down the laptop and then unplugged the charging cable. After letting it cool down over the next 5 hours I fired it up again and did note that the fans did not do their 3 secs of jet turbine blasting during the start up like they have every other time before this. In fact I did not hear them spinning at all. So I went to the Lenovo website and did a hardware scan which said the 'Fans not detected on this device'.
Next chapter is my 2 weeks of dealing with the terrible customer support. Lenovo Ultimate Care Support line is such a fancy name for no difference really. First time I called they transferred me to someone who was having mic problems and I asked them if they could call me back (and provided my cell phone number) as I could barely hear them over some interference noises from their microphone. They never did. The next day I called again, and this CS rep opened a repair ticket and informed me the next steps - respond to their email with all the pictures they requested of my laptop as well as downloading HWMonitor and taking a screenshot of the internal temperature readings for my laptop. After replying with all the pictures and screenshots I was to wait for a Care Manager and then On-Site tech to reach out. After waiting over a day, I called again to ask for a status update, and while I was on the phone I got a call from an unknown number that did not leave any voicemail. But I got an email soon saying they were trying to reach me and to provide the best time for them to try calling. I replied within 2 mins with my phone number, and asked them to call me right away...no call back.
Next I got an email with a bunch of questions they needed answered before the on-call tech can be scheduled. I replied with all the answers immediately but once again never heard from them again. I waited until Tuesday before trying again and spoke to another CS rep, and this time they were now saying I needed to ship my laptop to their repair center - keep in mind I have had the laptop for about 20 days at this point. I asked if I could just get a replacement laptop instead, but they stated it was out of stock. I decided to wait till almost the end of my return period hoping to see it back in stock, but it never did, so I went ahead and did the return for a full refund.
I also read on the reddit forums that quite a few Legion users have also dealt with terrible experiences after doing this BIOS update via Lenovo Vantage. It seems ridiculous that Lenovo pushed an update without proper testing. And even worse was my Customer Service experience. This is definitely my one and only time buying a Lenovo Legion laptop after all this.

Solid performance, but it tends to heat up
The laptop presents an appealing design and is among the top contenders in terms of aesthetics. However, it does suffer from a significant heating issue. Even during routine tasks and without any demanding software installed, it became noticeably hot to the touch. Additionally, the fingerprint scanner leaves something to be desired, as its accuracy can be inconsistent, sometimes failing to register at all. Overall, while the look is impressive, there are critical performance aspects that need addressing.

Works well, wary about how long it will last
Received as a replacement for my previous Lenovo (same exact model), which unfortunately only lasted about 7 months before encountering technical issues. Was able to have Lenovo replace it after some back and forth with customer support. This replacement is working just fine thus far. Runs pretty fast even when using heavier programs like CAD or rendering software. Nice features like decent screen size, fingerprint sign-in option, keyboard backlighting options. The only downside I notice on the day-to-day is the weight. It’s definitely quite bulky itself, and the charger also has some weight to it as well, which can make transporting it and the charger a bit of a pain.

Beware Lenovo Quality Control and Return Process!
Something seems to have happened at Lenovo in the past year. Their quality control is going out the window. I purchased a Lenovo 7i Gen9 last month because I was intrigued by the all-metal design, finger print reader, and the ability to upgrade easily. I needed a computer for work, to game on, and use in an office setting sometimes. Durability and functionality were most important to me. The new 7i seems to fit the bill.
Unfortunately something seems to be wrong with this generation of Lenovo laptop. The first 7i Gen9 I received had a trackpad that rattled in the bottom right corner, a finger print reader that didn’t work properly, and a hinge that after a week began to develop a weird grindy sound on the left side.
I requested a replacement which Lenovo happily provided. A week later I open the box to my replacement 7i, pop open the lid, and am met with something I’ve never seen before on a laptop. The keyboard deck was misshapen. Also like some keys were sinking into the computer. And the entire deck was misaligned. As I investigated further I found that the trackpad was sunken, and when you pressed it the entire thing sagged well below 2mm from the edge of the computers lid. On the left side every click caused your finger to grind into the side of the laptop.
I didn’t bother to turn it on. I called Lenovo one last time to request another replacement. I figured, maybe three times the charm. Unfortunately Lenovo said I wasn’t able to request another replacement, stating I could only request a refund. Fine by me, I’m tired of this ride anyway.
This experience is followed by days of calling Lenovo trying to get a return shipping label for the replacement laptop. One week later I still hadn’t received the return slip for the return. I had made three calls, and each was met with “you’ll receive a shipping label in 24-48 hours.”
After that week went by I started a message chat with Lenovo customer service on their website. At first they said I had only just started the return the day before I started a chat and a label would be in my email in 24 hours. This blew my mind, because I had started the return a week prior to the chat via the first phone call, which they even acknowledged at the beginning of the chat as the first date I contacted them about the return. I simply persisted and within ten minutes of the chat starting they had sent me a UPS shipping label.
All that wasted time and fuss for nothing. All over a laptop that ultimately didn’t work well. What a bummer. Really hope my refund doesn’t have issues as well.

The screen has rounded edges that I am not a big fan of. The craftsmanship is 9 out of 10. My unit comes with a Realtek WIFI adapter card, that’s why it’s 4 stars…Had to replace it, but that’s easy.

Great all round midrange laptop
Excellent laptop. Quiet fans, great picture, lightweight. I bought this for gaming and school and so far it has been perfect. The battery doesn’t last super long but if you tinker with the refresh rates and power saving modes you can increase it by quite a bit. Like other reviews the keyboard can get hot but it has never been uncomfortable for me to use even when running heavy loads.

Terrible Support
I can't comment on the computer's performance because I could never get it to start. That's fine - there are always a few lemons. However, despite ordering this directly from Lenovo, their tech support was terrible. It took me 5 phone calls to determine that, yes, what they sent me was in fact a very expensive brick - even though it literally would not boot, so I couldn't do anything to test it. Then it took multiple phone calls to get them to send me a return label. From the time the computer arrived to the time I actually get a refund will be about 4 weeks, which is truly ridiculous.

Powerful performance within thinner laptops
The workmanship is great and it adopts a new internal blowing design. An HX processor is stuffed under the all-metal body, which has strong performance release. However, the black body is very easy to stain with fingerprints, and it will become even more unsightly if the paint is peeled off due to bumps.

Great Laptop
Over all a great laptop. I have legion 5 with 3060 and this one is much lighter and compact then that one while being more powerful. fingerprint sensor is giving me some issue which could very well be windows issue. things I don't like are no option for win 11 pro at the time of purchase . You have to go through windows store and upgrade that way. Lenovo software suite is not the greatest when it comes to updating drivers and such, also please minimize the bloatware.

Great PC, but not with a docking station.
The specs for the Lenovo Legion 7i Gen 9 were just what I wanted - large SSD, RTX 4070 or higher, fastest CPU I could get, with as much high speed memory as I could get - and a slot for a second 2T SSD, at a reasonable price. Out of the box took some setup with my docking station but the laptop performs perfectly. The only problem is there's no docking station that will charge the battery for this model of Lenovo. I checked with customer service and technical support ahead of time and was told the dock will perform a partial charge while the laptop is in heavy use, but even in sleep mode the battery drains. If I'd have known this I would have purchased a different model.

Pleasantly Surprised - On-the-go gaming
This was a solid upgrade coming from a prior Slim 7 Gen 7 AMD variant.
The only thing I disliked was that the white model was $300 more for the same spec. I wanted the White unit, but alas price settled me for the Onyx model. Either model though looks svelte and fits in even in a work setting. I love the design, not overly flashy. It is the gaming-equivalent of a ThinkPad (RIP their T15g line though).
Build quality is fantastic, however it does collect fingerprints/smudges. Love the upgradability (2 RAM slots vs 1 and soldered ram, two NVME slots, upgradable WiFi).
Input devices are above average, key travel is better and keyboard is supple and not overly clicky. I actually enjoy typing on this unit for more than just gaming.
Thermal performance is great for a thinner device, be aware that the back piece of the laptop stays consistently warm - even when doing light tasks. Otherwise, fan noise is acceptable, and quickly ramps down after a long session. Fan noise is also average - noticeable but wear headphones if doing actual gaming. Ensure to keep the laptop propped up/on a cooling pad.
Battery life - ~2 hours on half brightness - but we're not after battery on this type of unit.
Speakers - average for a down-firing set.
Screen quality - I purchased the 2650x1600 unit - it is above average for the range. Love the 240fps. Mine however is on the little bit warmer side for factory calibration.
Gaming performance is where this thing shines. I was leery at first, as the 4070 mobile is a mixed bag, but then pleasantly surprised. This machine can't crank up settings or RT for those AAA games, but let's be honest. We have gaming desktops for that scenario. For on the go, or with friends, this unit packs a punch!
My benchmarks are informal - using the FPS meter built in Steam YMMV.
Warhammer 40k Darkside - 70-80fps at native resolution - medium settings, no RT
Diablo IV 80-90fps native resolution - I can play this on quiet mode and get similar results
RDR2 - 70fps, medium, no RT at native resolution
Overall, I recommend this unit for light-medium gaming, while remaining portable enough. For those interested in maxing out FPS, settings, quality - this is not for you. Get the 7 pro or 9 pro or better yet, a full desktop.

7i Gen 9 Intel (16?) with RTX™ 4070 - Eclipse Black
I recently got my hands on the 7i Gen 9 Intel (16?) with the RTX™ 4070, and it has been nothing short of fantastic. The laptop's performance is incredibly smooth, handling everything from heavy gaming to intensive graphic work with ease. The Intel Gen 9 processor paired with the RTX 4070 GPU makes for a powerhouse combination that truly shines, whether you're gaming in 4K or running demanding software.
The 16? display is stunning, offering crisp visuals and vibrant colors that enhance the overall experience. Whether I'm watching a movie, editing photos, or playing the latest AAA games, the screen delivers impressive clarity and detail. The refresh rate and response time also ensure that everything feels snappy and responsive.
In terms of design, the Eclipse Black finish is sleek and sophisticated, giving the laptop a premium feel. The build quality is solid, and the keyboard is comfortable for long typing sessions, with just the right amount of travel and feedback.
Battery life is respectable for a laptop with this much power under the hood. While it's not going to last a full day of heavy use without needing a charge, it does offer a decent amount of unplugged time, especially for less demanding tasks.
Overall, the 7i Gen 9 Intel (16?) with RTX™ 4070 in Eclipse Black is an outstanding laptop that delivers top-tier performance in a stylish package. Whether you're a gamer, a content creator, or someone who just needs a powerful machine for everyday use, this laptop is a fantastic choice.

Fast for my work/school needs, Microsoft office suite, browser, all run very well, making work and school quick and easy. Decent gaming power, not top of the line, but I have a console if I want to easily play the newest games. Can run what I want it to run to the level of performance that I find acceptable. Lots of connection ports (both USB A and C) are appreciated.
Cooling when gaming could be better/quieter, but this is a minor thing for me.

Amazing first gaming computer experience
This was my first gaming laptop and I’m really glad i purchased a legion. While the computer itself is a little heavy (standard for a computer of these specs), the display, functionality and performance of the computer can’t be compared to anything else i’ve used.
