A necessary accessory for the X1 Carbon 4th Gen.
If you have an X1 Carbon (4th Gen, THIS is the accessory to get. The X1 Carbon *includes* and Ethernet Card. However, what the [potential] user may not know is that there is no "Ethernet Port" on this laptop! In order to keep this laptop "slim and slick", the "Ethernet Port" is not provided. In order to take advantage of the Ethernet Card, a "special" accessory is required. That accessory is the "ThinkPad USB 3.0 Ethernet Adapter". With it, one attaches the Ethernet "Cable" to the "Ethernet Port" end of the Adapter and the other end plugs into a USB 3.0 Port. Unless one wants to ONLY rely upon Wireless, this seems to be a "must have" accessory. Caution: This specific accessory is for the X1 Carbon 4th Gen. For any given model of the X1 Carbon, it is critical to check whether THIS is the accessory or a [slightly] different one should be used.

Ethernet via USB C on Newest Laptops
Great way to connect the newer laptop without an RJ45 jack to the ethernet. Helpful when troubleshooting your oversold "slow Spectrum' internet service. They say you can't use wireless although you disable all the other wireless connections and your router and laptop far exceed the purchased internet service. Many laptops don't have an ethernet connection but do have a USB C port that this ethernet adapter plugs into.

Dongle has smooth finish and easily and snugly accepts RJ45s. I would have preferred it to be slimmer and the wire a bit longer so i can reposition the item intead of it dangling from my USB.

Well, it works as expected. I trust ethernet more than wifi and I needed this since my T490s doesn't come with an ethernet port. There was another recommended adapter for the smaller port (don't know the name) but those ports were side by side (so you can only use one at a time anyways...what kind of design is that?). Since I have another USB port on the other side, I decided to go with this USB adapter.
