Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not very effective I worked directly with Lenovo to order a docking station that was compatible with my laptop. I wanted only two features; 1) I wanted to have a dual monitor display and 2) I wanted the docking station to charge my laptop. The docking station comes with only a quick start guide which doesn't explain much of anything. I was able to figure out (with the right mix of cords) how to get both of my monitors to work but I also have to keep the laptop open. When I shut the laptop, both monitors shut off. That's not at all what I want. I've tried connecting the docking station to every port on my computer and it does not charge the computer. I still have to run a separate power cord to the laptop. I paid a lot of money for something that doesn't do what I wanted it to.

After adding an external monitor, the on/off button on the dock is not functional, it does not power on the laptop. In order for the external monitor to power on, the laptop must be open and the laptop power button must be used. once everything comes up, the laptop can be closed and the external console is useful. So, what is the power button on the dock good for???

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lenovo has the WORST Customer Service and Policies I would give this company a negative star if I could. Not only did they send me a product that was tagged as "Dead On Arrival", they tell me they'll send me a replacement, THEN tell me they can't because it didn't come from their warehouse. They said they have 2 warehouses for Canada and US. If it come from a 3rd party warehouse, Lenovo doesn't cover it. Even tho I ordered from their website, I get a busted 3rd party product. Just send me the working one from your warehouse, I'd rather wait for something that will work. Customer service gave me the run around and transferred me to several different people before disconnecting me. I call back, get the run around again and told I need to send back the product and wait weeks for a refund. I would highly recommend going elsewhere for any product. They have a very convenient loophole set in place with that warehouse deal to not replace a non working product.

But that is probably irrelevant because it doesn't work with an external monitor for very long. I have to reboot every morning to get the monitor to come back. I have been on forums and tried everything, many people have this issue. Wouldn't buy this again, not so sure I'd buy Lenevo again.

Create a config and password with Smart Dock Admin then put it in the Smart Dock Connect app dir. Can be finicky adding devices, and they'll appear in the dashboard when they get around to it.

Perfect, not really as the symbols for ports and miniscule and the documentation sparse to non-existent. It appears the keyboard and mouse ports are truly only for those items. I'm still not sure what ports are always powered nor do I know why the power light blinks. A couple more always powered "c" ports. It's certainly better than my prior configuration but there is always room for improvement. This is my second Smart Dock. The earlier version, pre- any USB-C ports, smoked many years ago.

If you are looking for a dock to use that just works with Lenovo laptops then you have found it. A word of caution though. If you are wanting to run 3 monitors with tis dock make sure your laptop supports 3 monitors at the resolution and refresh rate you want. This dock supports up to 2x 3840x2160 @60Hz, 1x 3840x2160 @30Hz currently. If your laptop does not support 3 x 4k displays then you may be limited to 2 x 4k displays and 1x 1080p mirroring the laptop screen. I do wish the USBC cable was at least 1.5m instead of 1m. We use these for hot seating in our office. The cable is not long enough to reach on for some laptops because of the cable management used preventing the dock from being moved. Another 6" would do the trick.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from smart dock with 3 monitors. I wanted to be able to have a 3 monitors (3x28'' monitor setup) for work. I plug my laptop via the USB-C to the smart dock. This was my first experience for this setup. The only thing I did not consider is that with 3 monitor, you cannot be at 60Hz on all monitor, with a resolution of 3840x2160 on the 3 monitors, you need to be at 30Hz, with is fine in a working environment (I mainly do Outlook ,Word, Excel and a lot of video meetings). In theory, you can have one monitor at 60Hz and the two others at 30Hz, but that gives a weird feeling (mainly the feeling of the mouse), so I put all 3 monitors on 30Hz. The 3 monitor setup takes a bit of time to setup in Windows and I need to work the configuration a bit everytime I deconnect/reconnect the laptop. So it is not plug and play, it needs patience, but I love the 3 monitor setup and flexibility of the laptop. One issue is that the smart dock has 2 display port and one HDMI port. Often, when I reconnect my laptop to the dock, the handshake between the smart dock and the monitor (a Lenovo L28u-30 28 Inch UHD 4K Monitor) fails. So I need to disconnect the laptop, reconnect and play a bit with it. On the smart dock, I also have a webcam and a lenovo go wired speakerphone plugged. Also my keyboard and mouse. If I don't disconnect my laptop, the setup is very stable.

It provides ample expansion for USB ports. Currently connected to three external monitors, and I suppose it might even support a 4th external monitor with a USB3 to HDMI adapter, but I don't have a 4th monitor to test it with. There is a USB-C, USB3, and headphone jack on the front surface which makes it convenient to quickly plug and unplug. Requiring more USB ports, I plugged in a small USB hub to expand, and this worked flawlessly.

I use two external monitors plus my laptop screen with zero problems; I convert an HDMI cable to DP using a cheap adapter I got elsewhere. The charging is fast! I love how it all just plugs into one port on my laptop, making it easy to pick up and go when I need to. It's also nice not having multiple plugs and ports sticking out of my laptop making it look like it's on life support.

It's perfect at looks great. I only wish there was at least 1 more USB-C. And it would make more sense if the USB-C to the computer came out the front and all other inputs in the back, along with 1 or 2 USB-C.
