Essential dock for the home base office
Great dock that has the right balance of ports in the front and expansion ports in the back to enable good cable routing and placement on the desk. Makes my X1 Carbon laptop more powerful when connected to additional peripherals.

Sort of works
I use the dock to output to 2 monitors for my work laptop, which is Lenovo T14 Gen 3. I have 2 problems. First, the secondary monitor would occasionally flickers sometimes. Secondly, there are horizontal lines on top of my second monitor when I have programs open. Another person has also expressed this issue in the reviews.
For product feedback, I wish Lenovo designed a vertical stand for this dock.
I think the thunderbolt cable is the issue for my second monitor for flickering and showing horizontal lines. I expected more, but I need something for work. I am just hope that the dock does not die.

Works seamlessly with my Lenovo T14 Gen 3. Love the multifunctional connections on this docking station. I have noticed it does produce a good amount of heat when utilizing for 10+ hours but does not seem to disrupt any functions.

Great dock. Runs our 4k multi-monitor setups well. Plenty of ports, works seamlessly with every <5 year old Think* product that we have thrown at it. Not sure what the "Powered by Azure" means, I guess I should check that out.

Docking station will not charge laptop
The docking station will not charge laptop out of the box. FAQ and online instructions say to reset the ThinkPad's harddrive (for real) and reinstall firmware! Ready to return it.

Excellent gift for the students in our lives
Awesome little laptop for an awesome pair of elementary schoolers (1st and 2nd). I live in a remote community and mentor a pair of siblings for all things technological. Their parents are not Luddites but are also not extremely tech savvy. I coordinated with the parents and we decide that the current trend for using android tablets and Chromebooks in school was OK but is not optimal. We wanted to introduce a convertible mainstream tablet to their kids. They will not be introduced to Windows later, they will have always used it. When it is time, together, we will install the Linux subsystem for Windows on and they won't skip a beat.
All made possible by an extremely kid friendly convertible tablet/touch screen laptop with 8GB RAM and a user upgrade-able SSD.

So far it's a great, durable computer. It was easy to set up and not overloaded with useless, trial software. I like the finger print log on and the keyboard is easy to use without too many incidental touchpad touch errors. I am looking forward to many years of service.

The best docks we can find
We use ThinkPad T15s and similar at work. We have found that using these high quality docks from Lenovo definitely is the best solution. Even our deskside support staff tells us (IT) to recommend Lenovo docks for anyone buying a new dock, as they do not introduce new problems. They are rock solid.

Incompatible with ThinkPad P1 Gen 4 20Y3008CUS ?
Tried to use this with my Lenovo ThinkPad P1 Gen 4 16.0" (20Y3008CUS). It apparently did not / does not supply sufficient voltage for that laptop. "The connected AC adapter has a lower wattage than the recommended AC adapter which was shipped with the system..." Lenovo support confirmed that 40B10135US was compatible with 20Y3008CUS prior to purchase, but that did not seem accurate based on actual use. My purpose in getting it was to run 3 UHD screens. Fortunately the laptop can do that without the dock, so I returned it.

I will never buy anything from Lenovo again. After realizing that the address was incorrect on my order, I repeatedly called Lenovo to correct it. After sever phone calls, they told me that they had to cancel the first order and re-order to correct the situation. Then they chraged me for both laptops. This is terrible customer service and I could never get this corrected. Do not buy from them. It is a horrible experience!

Awesome Thunderbolt 4 docking station
The Lenovo Universal Thunderbolt 4 Docking Station works great with my Lenovo Thinkpad X13 gen 2. I have 2 Thinkvision 27” monitors, a wireless keyboard, and mouse hooked to the docking station. I use this setup daily at work. It is an awesome setup that promotes productivity. Our entire office runs on Lenovo laptops and docking stations.

I bought this 2 months ago but only discovered after trying to troubleshoot that there is no solution for the message I keep getting: "The connected AC adapter has a lower wattage than the recommended AC adapter which was shipped with the system. To use AC power, please connect the AC adapter which was shipped with the system. Press the ESC key to continue." At the time of the purchase, I was assured that this dock was compatible with my Thinkpad P1 Gen5. And then when I spoke with a tech support person, I was assured that these two products were compatible. I see online now that there's a dock that is named "workstation" after the return window has passed. I had many problems in the past with Lenovo, but decided to give it another chance. But never again.

Nice Docking station, Would be perfect if it worke
The docking station is well constructed and provides very useful features. However, it does not provide all the features as advertised. It is supposed to support 4 4K displays but doesn't. I am only able to get 3 working and it is impossible to get the two DP to work at the same time. It seems that after updating the BIOS things got worse, so it seems like this is purely a software problem that needs to be resolved. It also gives me hope that the issue can be resolved.

ThinkPad Universal Thunderbolt 4 Smart Dock Improv
The ThinkPad work station did not have sufficient ports for my application. It has 2 thunderbolt, a HDMI, a usb C, usb A and a memory card reader. There was no ethernet port. I purchased the dock as a way to get a ethernet port. I immediately found that with the Thunderbolt 4 Smart Dock it was very easy to disconnect the dock when I needed to use the work station off site. I just had to disconnect the thunderbolt connection to the dock and could leave the rest of my desk setup.
I checked with Lenovo sales to insure that this dock was compatible with my work station. I now know that the dock ships with a 92 watt power supply and my work station wants a 170 watt power supply. Disappointing!

The tilt and swivel features are perfect.
In addition to the tilt feature, the swivel is a wonderful addition. This shows forward thinking to assist users or thoughtful consumer feedback consideration. Regardless, it is a win! I would recommend the product and return to Lenovo for more technical needs.

Solid, stable dock
The TB4 dock has been pretty stable so far. Every now and again, the video cuts out for 1-2 seconds, but it comes right back. Of all the Thunderbolt docks I've used (TB3), this one has been the least problematic. Sleep/wake is handled as expected, and no issues other than the occasional video drop.
The port selection is good, and I really like that the Thunderbolt cable is detachable, so that it can be replaced if it ever gets damaged.

Expensive but works well
Kind of pricy for a dock that doesn’t fit seamlessly under the laptop like the old school docks. But it has been working well for my wife’s 3 monitor setup and multiple usb connected peripherals. Only negative so far is the extra desktop space it takes up. The old style had pretty much all cables on the backside so we’re a lot easier to arrange halfway neatly. Will have to see if I can make a stand for the laptop so she can tuck the dock under.

Forget about video!
The product didn’t work as designed. I could not get the video ports to work with multiple monitors using both HDMI and display port. Nothing I tried worked even though my model of PC was listed as a compatible laptop.

Ok but one DP port busted and doesn’t charge t15p
Works fine just a couple things- one of the dp ports doesn’t work- shows snow on my screen. The other one works fine and I don’t want to be without the dock so I won’t return it. Also
I have a t15p and the dock won’t power my laptop. It’s pretty annoying that I still need my charger but I suppose it’s better for running down the battery.

Top notch docking station with all the functionality you could want. In fact possibly too much. My IT department told me the feature of Azure integration makes it unable to use the onboard NIC since they do not support that feature and it does not allow pass-thru MAC for the laptop. Otherwise its a great dock.

Thunderbolt docking station for Lenovo X1 Carbon notebook and ThinkVision screen is ok. I specifically purchased all Lenovo thinking they would be compatible but am disappointed. The notebook will not boot if connected to the docking station. I connect after booting. I am using all latest drivers. I had previously used a USB-C docking station and had similar issues but thought the upgrade would correct them. Not so.

Could have skipped the smart dock and just done the universal Thunderbolt 4. It appears to be more work than needed to do the remote access if you don't have a full IT Team for this, but the standard software for dock manager works fine for it too.

Poor purchase eperience
Lenovo really doesn't care about my experience as a customer. They require a signature for their laptop dock, which is a relatively cheap item. Who would wait at home for that? Their courier "missed" me and now I have to deal with all the hassle of pick it up from somewhere, while the when would the item arrive at that "somewhere" is completely unknown... What are poor experience! Lenovo really doesn't care, because they "moderated" (censored) my first post here about it, citing their "policy." I guess their policy isn't for the purpose of better serving their customers? Now for giving this review, Lenovo also requires me to tell them how old I am?! OMG!

Resolved a lot of issues
I received a Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Nano from my new employer and was surprised to discover only two thunderbolt ports. I knew immediately I would need a docking station.
I received the Universal Thunderbolt 4 Smart Dock a couple of days later and it has resolved a lot of issues I was facing that came from only having two thunderbolt ports.
Like with any docking station, there will be computer adjustments ie: screen flicker, audio quality inconsistencies, software installs, and software upgrades. You may need to unplug and re-plug certain cabling like, HDMI and/or DP, to rectify any visual/audio defects. I had to and it was no big deal, but is the reason for the 4/5 stars.
I have plugged into docking station:
2 - External monitors ( USB-C and Display port ) with one monitor running at 4K.
1 - USB Keyboard
1 - USB Bluetooth mouse
1 - Ethernet cable
1 - USB Microphone
1 - USB Webcam
With ports remaining!
As long as users are keeping up to date with necessary drivers and other software, then you should have a positive experience with it. Just keep in mind that docking stations are great mobile devices, however, operate best if fixated on your workstation for extended periods of time. Unplugging and re-plugging cables can wear on the ports and that could diminish the quality of your experience.

Complete Junk - Fail after 90 days
These docks fail after ~90 days of use. Appears that they overheat, we purchased 5 of them and all have fully or partially failed. Lenovo refuses to replace them after 30 days, they are trash and so are the Universal versions.

It is a paper weight. My company has tried several of these and none of them work correctly. All of them had no ethernet connectivity and several never connected to second monitors. It is a huge headaache deploying these docking stations. i would avoid them at all cost.

To my pleasant surprise everything just worked perfectly right out of the box. I didn't make use of its remote management features though. So if you need it for personal use, maybe consider the regular non-Smart version.

Be careful: not as Universal as they promote :/
It supports USB C but fails to work consistently with my brand-new Lenovo Legion Slim 5i. It will connect to the USB C 3.2 gen 2 ports, but after a restart, the connected displays are lost, and everything needs to be reconnected to get it working. Windows warns that the USB 4 device may not be compatible with the system.. too bad support told me this unit was the correct one to get for my new machine.
ALSO.. Item is not eligible for return
So looks like I am screwed.

Needed firmware update, but otherwise solid
I bought this to have a "one cable and go" solution for my new Lenovo laptop. It has lots of different ports (currently using 4x USB-A, HDMI, and ethernet) with more USB-C and DisplayPort to spare. I was a bit disappointed that there was a video problem out of the box - my monitor (not Lenovo brand, but has been used with other computers including a Lenovo laptop without issue) was showing "stutters" or little "flickers" of a few rows of pixels. It was intermittent and more than a bit annoying. After some web searching I disabled DSC (display streaming compression) which did not fix the issue. I checked Lenovo Vantage for available updates, but apparently it does not do/check firmware updates for the dock. I did find the latest firmware for the dock online, installed it, and everything has been working fine since then. So, four stars because I was robbed of a great out of the box experience, but otherwise it's a solid performer with no issues.

Great Thunderbolt 4 dock. Absolute must have!!!
Very good dock. We have 3 of these so far and they have worked flawlessly for Lenovo and non-Lenovo laptops.

Best investment for multiple screen setup.
Well worth the money. I have 3 monitors + my laptop, running 4 screens. Charges my devices really fast. Very simple to setup.

Finally, A Dock That Gets Me.
So, I got my hands on the Lenovo ThinkPad Thunderbolt 4 Smart Dock a while back, and let me tell you, it's been a lifesaver. As someone working in consulting and dabbling in data analysis, my desk used to be a mess of cables, which was a nightmare for my OCD tendencies.
Just Plug It In and Go
One of the first things that impressed me was how I didn't have to mess around with settings or installations. I hooked it up to my Windows laptop and my Mac, and both worked without a hitch. As someone not super techy, this was a huge relief.
OCD-Approved
I can't even begin to tell you how much better my workspace looks now. No more multiple cables cluttering my desk; this dock has spots for everything, from my extra monitor to my backup hard drive. It might sound silly, but a clean desk helps me focus so much better.
Late But Worth the Wait
Okay, so it did arrive later than expected, which had me pacing a bit. But once it was set up, I forgot all about that. It genuinely made my day-to-day work so much smoother that the wait felt inconsequential afterward.
Bang for Your Buck
Look, I know it's not the cheapest option out there, but if you're in a job that requires you to juggle multiple tasks and devices like I do, this dock is well worth the investment. It's one of those things where you don't realize how much you needed it until you have it.
