Rated 5 out of 5 by from Upgraded from an older Lenovo laptop to the new P1 I love my new ThinkPad P1 Gen 7 work laptop! The build quality is superior and it is light weight. It has a significant increase in processing power compared to the previous Lenovo that I have repurposed for personal use. Changing from a 14" to a 16" screen is another benefit that allows me to increase font size with less scrolling. My system consists of this laptop, a new Thunderbolt 4 Workstation Dock, and four new ThinkVision 27" monitors. Using the dock frees up all of the laptop connections, providing extra convenience and versatility in my daily work. I'm totally happy with my new Lenovo laptop and system as a whole. Thanks Lenovo for designing and building high quality products!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great workhorse device with solid construction We've all heard the old adage: You Get What You Pay For. This holds true when marketplace shopping for a business-class mobile workstation compared to the stereotypical cookie-cutter laptops. We wanted to custom build a workstation with enough processing power and capabilities to handle whatever data crunching or other memory or multimedia editing-intensive work we may have to do, so we needed to build an all-rounder for those eventualities. From the moment you unbox, these devices are definitely built to last. The construction and materials are well above the standard of the majority of competitors in the less-than-10 K mobile workstation division. The device is fast and responsive. Would definitely recommend getting a sizeable amount of RAM, one of the larger SSDs, Graphics card custom options, and Premier Business Support to have peace of mind for any help you may need from their tech support teams (virtual, phone, or on-site tech dispatch if needed).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great laptop with minor issues. Good quality machine with repairable components! Performs great right out of the box. I have a few non deal breaker issues. First, it’s a fingerprint magnet with its black coating. Its fans are somewhat loud but have a decent tone so it’s bearable. Lastly, and this is my biggest issue, the screen flickered uncontrollably when in 5g during initial set up. I had to lower the antenna power to medium which seems to have fixed the flicker. If anyone’s looking for a dependable and repairable machine with good performance for running simulations this is the machine for you!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Smooth Powerhouse This laptop is a power house. Not as loud as most people mentioned, constantly staying cool no matter how many programs are running. Just reliable as I figured it would be. I do wish it had a number pad as big as it is, but there are no complaints.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from High-end Lenovo laptop workstation for CAD design High-end laptop workstation for CAD design. The configuration with 64G memory and Nvidia RTX4070 GPU is what I am looking for as a mechanical design engineer who working on Solidworks. The price is so competitive among other computer brands. In my initial usage, the laptop is very fast with high resolution display. I also like the stylish design of the machine. The light weight benefits my travel need. I ordered this product from Lenovo website, which is easy of use. I can get quick help from the contact info as well as chat window provided on the website. I also upgraded my warranty term through the website. In general, I am pretty happy of my Lenovo laptop workstation as well as purchase experience.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Products, Terrible Service Trade Off I love Lenovo products. The ease of use, feature set, and most of all durability and reliability are outstanding. However, the service experience is pretty bad. The product line is not clearly understandable, and nearly all of the agents can't understand what I need or how I use my system. Worst of all, they have a condescending attitude, clearly acting like I know nothing, and they are filled with thinly veiled contempt about helping me select a machine. I can't say I would ever purchase again or recommend, unless you know exactly what you want and are deeply familiar with the Lenovo product lines.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good laptop, heavier than specs indicate Laptop was easy to set up and is very fast. I selected this one as it showed it's weight as 4lb on the dot; I already have a heavy backpack and wanted to minimize extra weight. It came in at 4.25 lb, plus the pound for the charger is a bit disappointing. The screen size is nice, which is a plus. Overall happy with the purchase

Rated 5 out of 5 by from **Finally found my daily driver - ThinkPad P1 Gen I've been through more laptops than I care to admit, but the P1 Gen 7 might actually be the one that sticks around. After six months of daily use for both work and personal stuff, I can't imagine going back. The keyboard deserves its own paragraph. I spend several hours a day typing between documentation, Excel, and general business stuff, and this is hands-down the most comfortable keyboard I've used on any laptop. The key travel is perfect - not too mushy, not too clicky. For me, the size and layout are great - everything's where I expect it to be. Build quality is legitimately impressive. This thing feels like you could use it as a defensive weapon if needed. The chassis doesn't flex or creak anywhere, and I do put it through the usual abuse as I move it daily from home->work->home repeat. Still looks and feels brand new. Performance-wise, the Core Ultra 7 with 64GB of RAM that I upgraded (yes, it is user-upgradeable) handles everything I throw at it. I'm running design work, usually have too many browser tabs open - 1 always running YouTube music, multiple Excel workbooks with heavy VBA, and Teams/Outlook constantly. Never slows down. I'm genuinely getting 6-8 hours of real work out of this battery. I can actually leave the charger at home without stressing about it. The display is sharp and bright enough for outdoor use. I kind-of wish I'd sprung for the OLED option, but honestly the IPS panel is perfectly fine for my work. Colors are accurate, and the 16:10 aspect ratio gives you more vertical space than the 16:9 screens which is great for spreadsheets and documentation. Port selection is solid. I can dock with my 49" ultrawide at work and dual monitors at home without dongles, which is more important than it sounds. Complaints: The matte black finish is an absolute fingerprint magnet. Looks professional when clean but shows every smudge. That's it.... The trackpad is actually really good, which surprised me. It's big, responsive, and feels natural. The TrackPoint nub is still there if you're into that (I am), but it doesn't get in the way if you ignore it. Runs quiet most of the time. Fans will spin up occasionally, but generally don't unless I am pushing it with design stuff or gaming - it's basically silent during normal work - good for video calls. Is it cheap? Absolutely not. But I needed something that wouldn't let me down, could handle professional workloads, and would last more than 2-3 years. If you're looking for a serious workhorse that can actually travel without destroying your shoulder, this is it. Bottom line: If you need a mobile workstation that doesn't compromise on performance or portability, and you understand what that is worth, the P1 Gen 7 is about as good as it gets right now.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from smooth, fast, powerful. here's hoping tough too Remarkably lightweight and fast for the power it has access to. Is really more of a mobile workstation than an ultrabook (good, that's what I bought it for) but it's the sleekest, lightest workstation I've ever had. I worry slightly about whether it will be as durable and repairable as previous thinkpads--I have been using thinkpads since 2015 and I'm definitely hard on my machines--but it's certainly lighting fast and extremely comfortable to use. Do get a laptop cooling pad if you intend to use it in the lap, though, it can run pretty hot--not remotely surprising given the power under the hood!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Laptop seems solid but Setting Issue out the box We ordered for an employee and right out of the box the screen flickered during the setup. I returned and ordered a replacement. Same thing happened. I checked the bios and no flickering. I then continued with the setup with the flickering screen and made it into windows and performed updates. Still flickering. Turns out the default refresh rate for the GPU is 162Hz. So I set it to the only other setting at 60Hz and the screen did not flicker anymore. Apparently the display panel is incompatible with the GPU default refresh rate. This only cost me a day since the shipping was extremely fast for this one, I got them next day. Still the hassle of getting a new computer and it having "issues" is a little odd for the Thinkpad line. Since turning over to the employee I have not heard and complaints so it seems fine past the settings mishap.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great laptop with some misses Very high quality laptop! Great display and keyboard! Overall, I am happy with this product, but there are some areas I wish were better. Pros: - Long battery life. Easily able to get at least 6 hours on a single charge with streaming and work at the same time. - Solid build. No flex on screen, keyboard or body. Can open screen with one hand which is nice. - Great display. Bright in any situation and the high refresh rate is very nice. - Loud speakers when properly set up (see con #2 below) Cons: - No numpad on keyboard. If you do frequent data entry, this could be a big setback. - Speakers fire downwards. If you use this on a desk, they sound great, but if you use this on your lap or anywhere the speakers can't reflect, the audio can be pretty bad. Other considerations: - I use Ubuntu with this machine and the laptop has been great for it. Good support and stability.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great balance of power and portability. After using X1’s for about 6 years, I needed something beefier for video and number crunching. This fit the bill perfectly. A little larger, but not too heavy. Recommend buying the OLED screen it looks great. Battery performance has been solid on cross-country flights.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Poor Customer Service and Shipping Procedures I cannot review the functionality of the product because I never received it. When purchasing this computer, along with associated software packages, DVD player, and power bank there was no upfront indication that orders over $200.00 would require an adult to physically sign for and recieve the shipped equipment. Nor did Lenovo indicate this in the initial purchase verification emails or have a means to request a shipment window. Not until the items were being shipped did Lenovo indicate that an adult had to be present to receive the shipment. Initially items were shipped when I was away from home and I was unable to receive follow on shipment because I could not take leave on short notice from my job to receive the items. Lenovo uses UPS as their shipper and there is no way to pick items up from an afterhours location and UPS would only shift the delivery date if Lenovo directed them to do so, which Lenovo Customer Support said they would not do. Additionally, Lenovo shipped the items in three orders coming from different UPS distributors on different delivery schedules which would have required me to be at my house for the majority of the day for two to three days; not a feasible solution. Even the dollar threshold for adult signature receipt made no sense as one of the returned items was below the $200.00 threshold in US dollars for non-signature delivery, but their own customer service website listed it as needing a signature because it was being shipped from Canada and its price in Canadian dollars was $200.00. Lastly, I had to call Lenovo customer service to get one of the software items refunded because the return refund was not properly processed. Overall, ordering from Lenovo has been a very frustrating experience; the company seems to expect that everyone ordering their product will have an adult available on whatever schedule they ship their product, or in this case multiple products. There is little consideration for people that cannot rely on another adult, cannot afford to take a day or multiple days off from work, and any thought as to making it blatantly clear that this is the manner in which the company will ship your product(s) to you.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Impressive "off-the-shelf" Mobile Workstation I needed a new mobile workstation & fast - came across the P1-G7 and it hit all the important spec needs I had. I found the overall hardware build quality to be great and no issues with touchpad, screen, or operation. All works great and the performance is superb. Delivered quickly and easy setup. Only negative is there's only 1 USB-A slot. While we all wish USB-A would phase out - it's not happening anytime soon. So one keyboard/mouse receiver and you need a dongle to dance with USB-A. Yes, this is easily overcome with dongles but when you're dongle-less and need to pick a peripheral you're handcuffed. A question I've always had is how can Lenovo be so good at designing, licensing, and building machines comprised of 5-10+ hardware manufacturers (NVDIA, Intel, AMD, BOE, Micron, Samsung, Realtek, Qualcomm, etc.) but can't get logitech to make an internal unifying device? Latency on Bluetooth mice is not the same.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exactly what I was looking for! I got a Lenovo X1 Carbon for my wife a couple of years ago and it is a fantastic laptop. I needed something a bit more powerful and able to do some video rendering, so I picked the workstation that has the 4070 graphics card. I was going to build one but the prebuilt offer with the discount was too good to pass up and I bought the P1 workstation. Great keyboard and very fast with the configuration it has. For a 16 inch display, this is compact enough to be easily mobile. It is very well built and I'm very impressed (which is not easy to do, I worked in the high-tech industry for 20 years and lived through the development of PCs).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from First Workstation I buy I've been using the ThinkPad P1 Gen 7 (16") for several weeks now, and it has exceeded my expectations in nearly every aspect. As someone who primarily works in data science, I rely heavily on performance, speed, and reliability—and this machine delivers. First, the build quality is excellent. It feels premium and solid yet surprisingly lightweight for a mobile workstation of this caliber. The 16" screen provides ample workspace with impressive resolution and color accuracy, making it comfortable for extended work sessions, especially when dealing with complex data visualizations or coding environments. Performance-wise, the P1 Gen 7 handles intensive tasks with ease. My data models are processing significantly faster compared to my previous laptop, which has already improved my workflow and productivity. The combination of a powerful Intel processor, fast SSD, and generous RAM makes multitasking smooth—even when running resource-intensive applications like R, Python, or large-scale simulations. Thermals and noise levels are also well-managed. The fans kick in when needed but remain relatively quiet, and the laptop stays cool under pressure, which is impressive given its slim profile. So far, I have encountered no issues or limitations. The keyboard and trackpad are comfortable and responsive, and the battery life is reasonable considering the performance this machine offers. Overall, I highly recommend the ThinkPad P1 Gen 7 for professionals who need a balance of power, portability, and reliability. It's a solid investment for data science, engineering, or any demanding workflow.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid Machine I'm an old guy. How many computers have I had over the years? Let me count them. For personal use, I tend to use them until they "just quit". When I replace one, I go for all the computing power I can get and keep it as long as I can. As I look back, the Thinkpad stands out as the one computer that took me the longest distance. So this time around, I return to Thinkpad. The Thinkpad P1 Gen 7 is as robust as anyone could need, both personal and business. For a mobile workstation, it stands out and alone among the competition.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 4K Display needs improvement 4K display needs improvement. The lines for the touch are visible and very distracting in certain environments such as webpages with grey backgrounds causing flashing when scrolling. Other than this this is a beast of a machine. I like the finger tab on the top a lot more than I thought I would. Keyboard is nice if a bit shallow. Sound was good. Felt very solid and well built. With that in mind a bad display is completely unacceptable on a 3 grand laptop. Many cheaper laptops have better touch displays without this behavior

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very good mobile workstation The laptop itself is very nice; I had it now for about a month, and I have not used it enough to say is what I expected or not. It runs fast; my architecture programs run smoothly. As it is a very expensive laptop, I kind of expected a super luxury finish (I had a MacBook Pro before). It is true that the design is minimalist, but for me it feels like plastic, and it isnt that solid (the screen is sort of flexible) The display itself is good; the only con is that when using it in darkness and with black images in the screen, soft light lights are visible in the bottom of the screen (like the source of the screen light or something) These are details. The laptop is beautiful, and if it runs perfectly, I just kind of expected a bit more perfection.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great laptop great Quality So far the laptop is very reliable and plays games pretty well. Build Quality is definitely good. Don't be alarmed by the top of the keyboard getting hot. The heat pipes end just above the keyboard. Lenovo has done a very good job with cooling these high powered chips in such a small case.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not a bad little computer. This thing seems to work alright, it seems like the screen glitches/flickers a lot for no reason. Battery doesn't last quite as long as I had expected. I like the black cover, but it shows fingerprints wherever you touch it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The laptop is a fantastic choice I’ve been using this laptop for my daily work, and it has exceeded my expectations in every way. The build quality is impressive, with a sleek and professional finish that feels durable yet lightweight enough to carry around. Performance-wise, it handles multitasking with ease. Whether I’m running multiple tabs, editing documents, or using software for work, there’s no lag. The keyboard is comfortable for extended typing sessions, and the trackpad is responsive and smooth.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid Workhorse This system easily handles everything I've thrown at it. Great performance. I usually use it docked with the Thunderbolt 4 Workstation Dock and two external monitors, but when I'm away from my desk the 16" screen is bright and vibrant. Battery life is much better than the Gen 5 it replaced.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It runs hot, and loud. Laptop runs hot, therefore fan is often on, and it's loud. The nVidia GPU was always at 0%, and I had to do research online on how to put it work. Fan runs even more now. My bluetooth mouse keeps disconnecting after the laptop goes into sleep mode, and I have to turn laptop's bluetooth on & off to make it work again. Otherwise, good quality build. Good screen.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My second Thinkpad My last Lenovo Thinkpad p50 from 2016 is still going strong, but I needed more computing power. My new Thinkpad has the Ultra 9 185H CPU, 32 GB Ram, RTX 4070 GPU, and 1 TB SSD. I've used it mostly for ArcGIS Pro and am pleased with the way it crunches large datasets, up to 250 GB so far. There is no display lag when I zoom in or rotate my imagery. The display is very good. I like the ample number of ports, but I do miss the number pad. The tech support has been impressive. I crashed Windows 11 while attempting to install an older version of Photoshop. The Lenovo tech support person spent more than an hour on the phone wiht me on Thanksgiving Day assisting in system recovery.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from As expected If you are getting a workstation, you already know the price point vs specs. Overall this one is fine, but not $5000 fine. So I'd recommend waiting for a sale. As expected per specs. Runs well, cooling is fine- Not impressively so, but with a cooling pad underneath it doesn't run too hot after strenuous use. However, Wifi sometimes doesn't connect and only restarting fixes it. Security feature is good- also expected of a workstation, but the fingerprint reader isn't the most accurate. Camera shutter indication turns red when it hides the camera, which is counterintuitive. Microphone key glows when it's muted- All of these are questionable design features. Not a full keyboard so you want to make sure if that's something you like/don't mind. For my use it's fine. All important keys and shortcuts are there, just not an individual numpad. Touch pad is a bit too wide for my liking, originally it disrupted my typing. However, that's a 'getting used to the new keyboard' thing. After using it for a bit, that issue no longer happens. Overall fine for its intended purpose.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quite an upgrade from a P1 Gen 4! I love this machine! I use it primarily for studying topics in my college major (Computer Networking and Cybersecurity). I'm currently simulating large networks to prepare for the Cisco CCNP ENCOR exam and this machine can handle very large networks with no problems thanks to the newer hardware! This machine is equally capable if you are to install a Linux Distribution (eg. Fedora Linux) as well! The graphics capabilities and display also incredibly good for my use case - I use an open source local upscaling application (Upscayl) to assist me in the archival of my large library of family photos. The 3840 x 2400 OLED Display is beautiful and makes viewing family photos / videos from my parents and grandparents such a joy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good hardware, buggy software I gave this laptop 4 stars because it wasn’t running well right out of the box. The high-resolution screen was blurry even though the resolution was set correctly, the trackpad was hard to use and Microsoft Excel, which came pre-installed, was laggy and kept crashing. I tried Windows and Office repairs and debugging on the Microsoft site without success. It was only after reformatting the computer and doing a clean install of Windows and Office that the computer started working like I expected it to. The screen resolution is now perfectly clear and there is no lag or crashing, and I have every reason to think I’ll be happy with its performance for a long time to come.

I'm delighted with it; it's fast, equipped with everything I need (dedicated video card, 32GB of ram, 1TB ssd and a fast processor). My only very minor complaint is that it doesn't have a separate number pad, but there isn't really room for it. I use an external bluetooth keypad when I need it. I'm very very happy with this unit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Powerful laptop with provisos This ThinkPad P1 Gen 7 is a very well-built, powerful laptop that qualifies as a portable workstation. Normally I would rate it all five stars, but I have downrated it for ergonomics as explained below. I am a decades-long ThinkPad customer, usually upgrading to a new model every seven years or so. My previous ThinkPad this time has been an X1 Extreme Gen 4 which is not actually being replaced but rather supplemented. I'll continue using the X1 in the field field use and the P1 is my office machine. One of my original reasons for getting into ThinkPad decades ago was its top-rated keyboard. I am also a dedicated TrackPoint user including the traditional TrackPoint physical buttons. In this new P1 Gen 7, Lenovo has replaced the TrackPoint buttons with a haptics-enabled portion of the TouchPad. They tried, but the feel, response, and reliability of the old physical switches is absent in this simulation. Also on the topic of keyboard, after decades of consistency, Lenovo switched the positions of the Ctrl and Fn keys at the lower left of the keyboard -- more a nuisance, but why break consistency? Finally, as part of a Windows-wide initiative, the formerly dedicated Print Screen key has been moved to the Function Key row. The other ergonomic issue I have experienced with the P1 Gen 7 is the OLED screen. Admittedly, the touchscreen-OLED option was optional but I was willing to try out touchscreen and OLED came with it. Touchscreen is a very usable alternate input means that does in fact relieve a bit of the frustration of the haptic TrackPoint simulated buttons. But I didn't realize at the time of purchase that close staring at the OLED display is a recipe for eyestrain leading to headache. However, after a few weeks, my eyes seem to have adapted a bit to the display so the strain is now somewhat reduced as long as I don't overdo it. In summary, this ThinkPad P1 Gen 7 is a solidly-built, extremely fast machine with a couple provisos. Dedicated TrackPoint users like myself may not be happy. Apparently not everybody is sensitive to OLED screens but eyestrain is possible for some folks like myself.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Mostly happy except occasional video issues Overall, I’m happy with my ThinkPad P1 Gen 7 with Intel 14th Gen Ultra 9, 185H 16C, NVIDIA RTX 3000 Ada, 64GB RAM, 2TB SSD and 16” 4K OLED touch display with 400 Nits. I've been using it since 2024 year end. It runs fast and has enough storage capacity (for now). My problems so far are mostly related to its display. On my previous machines, I used Firefox, but on this ThinkPad, videos on Firefox often get garbled in fine mosaic patterns on YouTube and Amazon. Besides, YouTube gets super-slow on Firefox. (I read it was due to some scheming by a Firefox’ competitor.) When I switched to Chrome, all videos play as expected. Also, when I switched from zoom to LINE video meetings, the screen blacked out and I had to evade that state via Alt+Ctrl+Del keys. One more annoyance is regarding the HDR mode. When in the HDR mode, if I pull the power cord, the screen blacks out for a sec or so and comes back in the non-HDR mode due to the machine switching to the battery mode. It was a bit shocking when that happened for the first time. There should be better way(s) to transition between the HDR and non-HDR modes. Right now, I'm just using the non-HDR mode to prevent unexpected mental toll. Hope there will be improved display drivers available in the future.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from P1 Workstation I purchased a Lenovo P1 workstation laptop. This is my second P1 in a row, and I absolutely love this computer. It is a powerhouse, especially given the size and weight of the unit. The graphics are spectacular, the boot-up is fast, and the form factor is outstanding. I frequently use this computer for 3D CAD modeling, and it handles even heavy files with no problem. I definitely recommend this computer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from High hopes but surprisingly glitchy I really want to love this laptop. I am a video editor for work so I purchased this predominantly to work with Premiere. I haven't done much of that with it yet, but even just in much less intensive Lightroom, I've had several instances of it crashing and needing to restart the laptop to get the program to function. There have also been times when the laptop suddenly doesn't recognize the built in speakers and won't play sound. Extremely disappointing for a brand new laptop, especially at this caliber/price point. The screen is beautiful though, and when it works it works well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from SLOW for an expensive laptop For the amount I paid which was $3K USD and given the laptop is using the latest technology for early 2025, I expected a fast computer but it works slowly and clunky, even just using CTRL+ALT+DEL takes like 3 seconds and switching windows or browser also take some seconds that look like the computer is going to get stuck at some point. I don't really understand why it is so slow. Very disappointed with my purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Laptop The display is gorgeous, Lenovo delivered earlier than anticipated, everything works great. I will note that the battery does tend to drain quite quick. As opportunities for improvement, I would recommend to review more competitive pricing points and improve assistance outside USA (e.g. provided phone line did not take my request when I had a technical issue with installation).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Horrible customer service. The machine was delivered with obvious external damage to the package, confirmed by inspection of the laptop - a dent, almost a perforation, in the case. The package had inadequate packaging, and wasn't marked 'fragile'. The help desk person spoke inadequate English and sent the wrong paperwork (cancelled the warranty rather than sending a return label). She said there were no replacement machines available but we later checked the website and they were indeed available, for $300 more. We had to pay that much more for a replacement machine. Lenovo took 7 days to send a return label; they would only credit our credit card after receiving the damaged machine; in the meantime I had to pay my credit card bill so am out the $3,000 for a month. Extreme lack of customer service.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing quality and performance I switched from a desktop to laptop in order to do 3D scanning where ever needed. But I still wanted to use CAD, play games and use a single PC for all my work. I had a ThinkPad 20 years ago, and didn't hesitate to look at them again. It is great that Lenovo has kept the quality top-notch. I drive four monitors through the docking station and on-board HDMI. The docking station itself has some issues, but the laptop is flawless.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It's a dream machine that you can also cook on OLED touch display, 4TB Drive, 64GB RAM NVIDIA 4070 i9 13 or 14th gen intel chip, all in a stylishly thin laptop. A dream machine for me. This computer had an NVIDIIA 4070 GPU but also still had the intel GPU. The laptop OLED screen was connected to the intel GPU and the NVIDIA has nothing hooked to it. I didn't explore whether the NVIDIA could be routed to the internal monitor but presumably you could connect external monitors or VR headsets to it. It also had an i9 13th generation chip, so this is a powerful machine. Having had some experience with the i9 chip on a couple of desktops I knew how hot the chip gets so I asked a chat person at Lenovo whether there were any problems keeping this computer cool and she said it had a new state of the art cooling system. It's a pretty thin case, a great monitor, not a lot of ports but I knew I'd have to add some external box for ports. So, when I got it, I went about doing updates and installing programs and the computer got sooo hot you could fry eggs on it. It was hot just idling but if you gave it anything to do the fan winds up to 100% and just stays there. It's nice and quiet when you first turn it on but within minutes it's the loudest thing in the room and never settles down. Me thinks they tried to put too much power in this little box. So, I returned it for three reasons 1. it seemed silly to pay for 2 GPUs but what do I know, maybe that's always the case when you add an NVIDIA. That alone wouldn't have made me return it. 2. It runs so hot I felt like it would burn itself out in a short amount of time and even if the chip was staying cool 3. the volume of the fan running full blast all the time was too much. This last reason would have made me return the laptop all by itself. I would pay for a much bulkier laptop if it had all these features and stayed quiet.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from ThinkPad P1 Gen 7 Intel Review This laptop is powerful but light. Out of the box was very easy to use and setup for our company. Meets all of the needs and requirements as we are very CAD/Revit heavy. Will be making this the standard going forward!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bad battery life among other things Dissatisfied with battery life, although it charges relatively fast, if you are running a VM or some decently heavy software, the battery does not hold. It also seems to be wonky at times, I backed up from one drive and had concerning incidents like my computer just sit off and reboot out of nowhere. Also I purchased adobe and Norton, inside to call multiple times to get my software licenses. They did not advise me of this and I had to go out of my way to get the items I purchased

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Powerful Laptop This laptop is excellent with multitasking large programs and gamining at the same time. The thunderbolt port and charger are a bit bulky, and the lack of extra USB on laptop, makes it difficult to use bluetooth devices.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best Windows workstation I have ever owned The laptop is a beast. It feels more like a desktop in terms of power. The fan is a little loud at times but it keeps the CPU and GPU rather cool. I am a software architect and this compiles code super fast and I never get lag. The WiFi 7 speeds are incredible if you have the right network hardware in your home. The keyboard and trackpad are perfect, I don't know anything I would change about them. The aesthetics and feel of the chassis are great but be ready for fingerprints on the lid if that bothers you. The charger is 170 watts so be prepared to shell out a lot of money for a dock that can deliver that much juice and the charger itself is the proprietary lenovo style, not usb c like we've come to expect from most modern equipment, so a second charger is likely going to be expensive as well. I'm not a computer gamer but I couldn't resist trying out a couple of games and it didn't disappoint. The new Intel Core Ultra 9 185H is not really a performance upgrade from the previous i9 series but it is less power hungry and has the NPU for AI workloads so it is a fair trade with no noticeable lag under load. If you are a remote worker and find yourself working from different locations or even kicking back in the recliner for the afternoon to finish your day, this is the laptop for you. I run windows 11 as the primary OS VMWare Wokstation Pro with a Ubuntu VM for development because I prefer that over WSL and this machine runs both flawlessly. I was a huge fan of the MacBook pro until they switched to the ARM architecture because... well, who doesn't like a mac, but these days a good linux OS will feel very familiar as an alternative without being forced to buy everything else Apple to connect with it. I've also recently started using Blender to create 3D models for my 3D printer and this also runs that software like a champ! tldr; If you want a great Windows laptop that will handle all of your high performance needs, this is a fantastic device.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from New ThinkPad P1 I have been using this computer for a little over a month. So far this has been a great computer. It is fast. I do a lot of image/data analysis so the 64 gb ram was crucial. The NVIDIA 4070 does a great job of stitching images into orthomosaics. As others have noted when the computer is really working hard the fans are a little noisy but to me not a problem. I only hear them when I push the machine in high performance mode. Set up was much easier than I thought. My previous machine was a non Lenovo machine but once they were connected all my files transferred over easily. I am very pleased with the purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My Blind Senior Software Engineer 4 star review. When I opened the box, I loved that it was plain and simple—no money wasted on flashy packaging, just a powerful machine and the charger. That alone told me this laptop was all business. Performance & Power This laptop is a beast. It runs my LLMs (“llamas”) like a dream and stays quieter than my 7-year-old Dell Latitude, even under heavy load. Some people complain about the size of the charger, but honestly—it’s smaller than the one that came with my Latitude. The laptop itself is also slimmer and lighter, despite packing far more power and a dedicated GPU compared to the old integrated graphics I had before. Design & Usability The touchpad gets mixed reviews, but as a blind user, I don’t rely on it, so it doesn’t bother me. It is a bit large, though, and could be annoying if you accidentally brush against it. The touchscreen, on the other hand, is something I really appreciate. Even though I’m blind, it makes certain partially accessible apps much easier to navigate. And when my wife helps me out, she loves the big, beautiful display. In fact, when Gen 8 comes around, I might pick one up for her. Ports & Battery I do wish it had two USB-A ports, but I’m slowly transitioning to USB-C anyway, and this machine has plenty of those. The battery isn’t hot-swappable, but it’s still easy enough to replace with just a few screws. That’s a solid compromise. Extras The speakers blew me away—amazing sound for a work laptop. The one real disappointment for me is the lack of an Applications key. As a blind user, I rely on it the way most sighted people use right-click, and while Shift+F10 works, it’s a bit tedious. Final Thoughts Overall, this is a sleek, light, and incredibly fast laptop. If you’re a software developer—or a blind senior software engineer like me—you’ll find the P1 Gen 7 delivers where it matters. A couple of small trade-offs kept it from a perfect score, but it’s still an outstanding machine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from More than I wished for I’ve been using the ThinkPad P1 Gen 7 for a while now, and I must say, it has exceeded my expectations in every way. This powerhouse of a machine is equipped with a Core i9 Ultra processor and a whopping 64GB of RAM, making it perfect for handling intensive tasks with ease. Whether I’m multitasking or running demanding applications, this workstation never misses a beat. The 16-inch 4K OLED touch screen is simply stunning. The colors are vibrant, and the clarity is unmatched, making it a joy to work on, especially for graphic design and video editing. The touch functionality adds an extra layer of convenience, allowing for intuitive interactions. One of my favorite features is the haptic trackpad. It provides a tactile feedback that makes navigation feel incredibly smooth and precise. It’s a small detail, but it significantly enhances the overall user experience. Overall, the ThinkPad P1 Gen 7 is a fantastic investment. It’s powerful, reliable, and packed with features that cater to both professional and personal use. I highly recommend it to anyone in need of a high-performance mobile workstation.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Damaged Laptop from Lenovo, and Poor Support I've had this laptop for about a month, and I've had serious issues with the screen/display glitching and malfunctioning. It doesn't happen all the time, but regularly enough where I see it a few times every other day. Tech support suggested I swap out the computer for a new one, but to do so I have to call sales. I called sales over the weekend when I'm free, but they said they can only help non-busines customers on the weekend, but business customers can only get sales help during weekdays. Meaning if I wasn't a business customer, this person would have been able to process my request. I call sales during the week, and they tell me they are out of replacement laptops and can only offer a refund. I ordered the laptop directly from Lenovo.
