I needed the external player inorder to access many of my software that operate from a CD and to install some software. The player worked perfectly and I look forward to years of service from it.

Both times there were problems and they had to be returned. I finally purchased the Lenovo recommended unit and it worked perfectly right out of the box. Hooked it up and loaded the software for the unit without a hitch. I hihjly recommend staying with the Lenovo branded accessories. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

This drive helped me download all my 48G of music from my CD's to my laptop. I know everyone is into streaming their music but I am still old school and have cd's. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great External DVD Burner Didn't Last As Expected I bought this with a new laptop in August 2018, 26 months ago. I've used it with innumerable CDs and DVDs. It's easy to use and super portable. Unfortunately, the latch mechanism isn't too reliable after 26 months and the drive pops open on its own, even if I'm watching or burning a disc. I like Lenovo laptops, but this disc drive was a little disappointing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good DVD Option This is a good option for me to use DVDs and CDs with my new Ideapad because it doesnt have a built-in drive. It is a great size, very slim and sleek. Drawbacks are it is definitely plastic, and doesn't feel too sturdy. I would have preferred that it was the kind where you push the DVD in, but this one has a tray that pops out, it just all feels very fragile and I am worried about breaking it. To watch a DVD movie, be ready to do some trouble shooting because this hardware does not come with playback software, and it is a challenge to get software working with windows 10.

It wasn't easy to set up although thinking that it would be seeing how both are made by the same company. The included disc really didn't seem to e as I had to get another app to get it to work.

Everything was simple - from removing the components out of the box to setting up to using the computer - the process was quick and easy. I love that "bloatware" is optional rather than already installed. The matte screen eliminates glare and that is a must for my eyes. I ordered an external DVD drive from Lenovo right away at a good price and it arrived quickly. I've been using the computer for about a month now and love the speed and functionality so far. I have had no trouble and no need for support. I am a very happy customer!

Tried to play a DVD this morning only to discover that it doesn't work. The "PLAY" menu item is missing and the help for the software tells me that, depending on what version of the software I have, all menu options might not be available. What the heck? Bought this specifically to play DVDs, and the Lenovo website says "Have access to your disks when you need it." Well, I don't have access. Geesh!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good value for the discounted price Exactly what you'd expect: a slimline "laptop" DVD drive in an external USB-attached, USB-powered case. As such it's not the most abuse-resistant drive, but it's simple, effective, convenient and lightweight. Similar drive over the counter at Staples was $65 last time I looked, so the current discount price of $32ish is a bargain. I wanted a drive on my desk when my PC is out of reach; this will do the job nicely. One cute feature that I wasn't aware of: The drive can be started in a mode that translates the DVD filesystem into a FAT32 filesystem, making it usable with devices that were designed only for flash drives. I don't expect to need that, but it's a nice idea
