At the heart of the Juniper Networks MX Series 5G Universal Routing Platform is the Switch and Control Board (SCB). The SCB has three primary functions: switch data between the line cards, control the chassis, and house the Routing Engine. The SCB is a single-slot card and has a carrier for the Routing Engine on the front. The Juniper Networks Enhanced MX Switch Control Board (Base Bundle) is designed for use with the Juniper Networks MX960, MX480, and MX240 Series Universal Routing Platforms. The SCBE-MX serves the carrier Ethernet services router and carrier Ethernet transport markets that require higher-capacity traffic support, demanding greater interface density (slot and capacity scale), as well as improved services. The SCBE-MX provides 160 Gbps/slot bandwidth with redundant fabric support and improved fabric performance by using the next-generation fabric (XF) chip and a central clocking module, as well as a centralized clocking architecture that supports clock cleanup and distribution. The Stratum 3 clock module performs clock monitoring, filtering, and holdover in a centralized chassis location. The SCBE-MX also offers full performance with fabric redundancy for higher-capacity line cards such as 16x10GE and MPC3. The Juniper Networks MX960, MX480, and MX240 are modular, chassis-based routing platforms. The MX960 has been proven in the world’s largest service provider, cable, mobile, and data center networks, offering 12 Tbps of system capacity in support of business and residential broadband services as well as peering and provider edge applications. The MX480 is a modular, 9 Tbps-capable router that supports a wide range of cloud, campus, enterprise, data center, service provider, cable, and mobile service core applications. The MX240 is a compact, 3 Tbps-capable router ideal for space-constrained cloud, enterprise, data center, service provider, cable, and mobile service core deployments. The MX Series portfolio was designed for agility and built from the ground up to support a universal set of edge applications, helping Juniper customers rapidly respond to evolving business and technical requirements while simplifying operations without sacrificing their current infrastructure investments. The flexibility of the MX Series is enabled by the programmable Trio chipset, which allows MX Series platforms to add support for new features, such as telemetry, without costly hardware upgrades. Additionally, support for the Junos Automation Toolkit and the Juniper Extension Toolkit provide modern programming languages that reduce costs and increase profitability by improving productivity and customization.
