Rated 5 out of 5 by from No thought behind it Nice n loud but it dies so quick. I have the Charge 4 and I can play it for 6 hours on blast before it dies. This one? 2 hours and the red light is blinking. Ridiculous. Then, I would like to know the genius that decided they were going to make this speaker and NOT let it connect to the charge 4? JBL is weird and all over the place. I'm going back to UE.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Terrible I bought one of these a couple weeks ago, and to be honest it’s pretty awful. The sound is so distorted and glitchy even though the device is up to date. It cuts out and is just awful to listen too. Went back to using a cheap Alltech speaker:)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Durable for Outdoor use I needed a new speaker for work but needed something durable.I was hesitant to get this because looked too sexy to take to industrial environment.I took a chance and glad i did.Not only is this a beauty its a beast.The build quality is top notch the rubber sides and grill make me feel confident it will hold its own out here.Battery life is great i currently work 12 hours due to being short handed during pandemic and it has about 25% battery at end of shift while playing at about 75% volume.The type C charging port charges it up real quick about 1 hour or so.I haven't got it wet but i have got it dirty.Overall im happy and recommed if looking for something rugged yet pretty.

I only use this product while getting ready to go outside or while I'm working out. So I would say about 4 to 6hrs before I have to charge this thing again.

Where’s the bass? “Party” option didn’t make much difference. I compared this to a dusty 5 year old Bose color (strictly outdoors) and I don’t really see any difference. Love JBL, but this speaker didn't WOW me whatsoever. Only positive...Bluetooth range. Maybe cuz it was through Amazon? Who knows. I’ll give JBL another chance in the future, but suppose I have to explore elsewhere or not trust Amazon.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Purchase Ever! I have never written a review for anything before, but I’ve always said I would for this speaker so I’m finally getting around to it. I bought the JBL Charge 3 a long time ago when it first came out. I didn’t know what to expect, but I have been absolutely blown away. I love this speaker and I bring it to nearly everything I do. It’s been at the pool, on the beach, on a kayak, and so much more. The sound is incredible, and it blows my mind how long the battery lasts. My friends and family have gotten on board and gotten themselves one too. If this Charge 5 is anything like my Charge 3, I will no doubt be getting one if my 3 ever goes out on me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Nice Piece of Audio I anxiously awaited the delivery of this JBL product owing to the quality I've come to expect from this audio company. Upon arrival, and subsequent use of this speaker, it certainly did not disappoint. Generally with these portable type speakers your first concern is with the bass response. To be fair, you shouldn't expect too much from these type "portables" in the way of bottom end. You expect to give up a little in the sound department for the convenience of it's size. However, with the JBL Charge 5, you are having to sacrifice very little. The overall sound quality is second to none and the balance between highs and lows is spot on. This latest contribution from JBL is a definite 5 star winner!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from best speaker I have owned. This is the most expensive and biggest Bluetooth speaker I have bought. I have owned a fugoo and an altec before. Also have a jbl flip 3 at work. This is the clearest and best sounding speaker I have owned. I don't think I could go back to the cheaper ones. Makes movies and tv shows much better on my computer. I think it sounds even better than my tv sound bar.

It feels heavy duty, while still being small enough to shove into a bag. The mesh casing gives it an excellent grip for your hands, while still looking sleek and cool. The sound quality is unmatched, which holds true for most JBL products. The ability to charge your other devices using this speaker is an AWESOME plus! The only issue I have had, that was honestly a little annoying, is that only two weeks into owning this product, the tiny strips of rubber on the bottom that stabilize the speaker have started to peel off. I wouldn't consider myself too rough with my things, however, I have carried it with me almost everywhere I go. Still a great speaker overall, aside from that one minor annoyance.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Midsize King I’ve owned many JBL speakers and have been extremely satisfied by all but like all technology they are improved by the next generation. The last JBL charge I owned was the charge 3 which I had since launch until selling it recently it was still just as amazing as the day I bought it, but after hearing my new charge 5 I realized just how much of an improvement it was. The added tweeter was the first thing I noticed it makes the speaker sound so much more clear and loud compared to the previous model while retaining the awesome bass response. I considered trying a different brand this time but after a lot of research I decided that JBL is still the brand for me nobody else gives me everything I want in a speaker but they always deliver, in my opinion nobody has the sound quality, build quality and everything else I look for at a comparable price. I also owned the original JBL Xtreme and I have to say the charge 5 is very very close in sound and performance which is amazing at the size. Overall I am extremely happy with this speaker and I’m looking forward to using it for years to come.

Only things i dislike is bass sounds great when speaker playing medium to low in volume because when volume all the way up not so much bass at all and im a huge bass head. Last thing i dislike is i bought navy blue speaker but its more turquoise than anything that i feel its more of a girly color than a color a man would own

The bass and clarity this speaker gives is great and for the price point and the added volume for the still compact but large size is so worth it. We have found ourselves using this speaker as often as we can and daily.

But switched to a competitor because of the limitation to only 2 speakers that can be connected to each other. With Connect +, the Charge 5 can now be coupled with up to 100 boxes - but unfortunately, in my opinion, a bit too expensive to simply buy three of them. But the sound and the depth of sound are great and the optics are definitely convincing!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Sound! I received the JBL Charge 5 recently and decided to put it through a rigorous testing for various locations inside and out. This speaker did not disappoint! I own two JBL Charge 2 models that we use outdoors in the summer by the pool that have worked very well. Charge 5 Speaker is waterproof so we don’t have to worry about splashing or dropping it in the water. The new speaker’s sound blows them away. This model is slightly bigger and heavier, but that’s due to the new speakers. The sound is incredible! From listening to rock, pop, country, etc. to the vocals that are crisp and clear. Bass comes through loud with the volume cranked up! This speaker works just as well outdoors as well as indoors. Price is affordable and about what you would expect to own a quality versatile speaker. Comes with a USB charging cord for easy re-charging, you can expect 15-20 hours use before needing a recharge.

Very impressive sound quality, crystal clear! Worth the expense for the range of audio it gives off. Tested with drum and bass, and even manages this at the higher volumes. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice upgrade. I went down the review line and read this reviews and nobody seems to mention the sound muffle if you are holding the charge 5 on the exclamation j side. The tweeter is producing most of the sound. I reviewed the charge 4 and the only gripe I had with that was to move the driver to the center instead of one side for balanced sound that way if you grab it from any end you still hear sound instead of blockage. It's the same with the charge 5 you have to watch how you hold or grab it to not block sound. Sound quality is amazing just wish they could of move the smaller jbl logo to the upper right or left side and put the single driver dead in the center. Just my humble opinion. Still great product more power better sound nice exterior design.

Put it in the middle of the room and it's very good, put it in a corner allowing for the sound to bounce off the walls, and it sounds freaking great! The ability to charge your phone is very handy to have if your outside working on yard-work or something. The only complaint I have with it is the price, which is obviously very high, but for all the stuff you get its pretty decent.

The charge 5 has an absolutely enormous sound for its size, in loudness, fullness, and soundstage. The actual sound quality has not gotten better since the charge 3s, but volume, design, etc has improved dramatically. The sound signature is definitely consumer oriented with a moderate v shaped curve and slightly extra mid bass hump. I think the charge 3 actually had a slightly more balanced sound signature but overall sound quality is about the same.

This speaker is definitely loud enough, and it’s small enough to be able to have out of the way in the vehicle. The battery will last for at least the 8 hours I’m on the road every day I leave it running the entire time.

They could not get it to pair also. I took it back and got a UE Megaboom 3 and it paired right up. I received an email from JBL the day after saying this product only pairs to phones and computers, so beware.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from True Stereo & High fidelity from separate speakes These JBL speakers are Awesome, You can purchase one and hear great High fidelity sound with terrific Bass or you can purchase two for Stereo sound that is Amazing, I have separated the speakers about 20 feet and still work perfectly. I can cast from my laptop, my phone or any other device in the house. We purchased these for the beach, still trying to get out there hopefully soon. If quality sound really matters to you, Expensive but totally worth it.

I read a bunch of reviews of several different makes & models. To be honest, I went with JBL because a friend of mine in California has one and likes his. OMG! I took it out to the lake and I was freaking amazed at how good it sounds!! No kidding. I'm not easily impressed. I figured it would just be a step up from tinny iPhone speakers. Wrong! It thumped! **doing my happy happy joy joy dance** I like it when I feel like I've made a good decision when I buy stuff.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Needs Major Function Improvement For Stereo Mode!! I got two Charge 5's to work in stereo mode. However, they provide no way to set stereo mode from the units unless you use the JBL Portable app. Whats more, the units do not save this mode once you power them off like the app says. So you have to go into the app everytime you power them on to put them in stereo mode. Not to mention some phones will simply time out their connections because it takes so long to connect to the device to set them up. So stereo isn't possible if your phone cant handle it (tried on phones with android 8 to 11). I've had the Sony XB30s for 4 years, and they remember their stereo state once connected, unfortunately they have tons of connectivity reset issues and were terrible to work with. The only deal breaker for me on these units is lack of access to stereo mode. I am hoping a firmware update can resolve the issue of it remembering to stay in stereo mode once it powers off. Otherwise, they are great portible speakers and the addition of the tweeters give them extra clarity in the stereo field mode, in single speaker mode, I dont really find the tweeter frequencies as useful. The bass is more on the balanced side as opposed to just excessively boosting 100hz to give the illusion of more sub tone and sounding muddy. 3 Stars for the other qualities, but please, if you are going to state something works, it better work. Please fix the stereo memory issues!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from good box I was allowed to test the JBL Charge 5. This is, as always accustomed to JBL, quite well made. The sound is quite "room-filling". I could put this against my Charge 3 and had to notice some good changes. The battery lasts a long time, the sound is powerful, even in the lower range. The water resistance has increased. Should now be longer "splash-proof". Since the battery and speakers have gotten a little bigger, the box has grown auc something, but not much. It still feels good in the hand and is still quite handy with a weight of 0.98kg. The only thing that has bothered me a bit is that there is no more 3.5 mm jack. this connection has unfortunately fallen away. For this you would then need an adapter, or just everything via Bluetooth. On the whole, however, this is a pretty good box that can be seen. For the outdoor area very well suited and with a pretty good sound, where the bass is quite powerful and also the treble is very well separated and transmitted. This results in a really good sound image.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sound like a walkietalkie-0 definition, look good. *Friend has a different model with no lights but the sound is top notch (as a real JBL) Highs / low / Sound definition so bad that I could not keep it more than 1 day. In fact, sent it back in 1h, could not listen to it any longer. There is a limit to anything. My tiny lenovo flex speakers completely overshadow this. I am a big JBL fan with wireless / ear bud / studio monitor etc. Shame if JBL get into cheap quality audio. Otherwise excellent quality in anything else (but as speaker). And as lamp. JBL has always been among the best in sound quality and built a recognizable reputation for its users. Shame if FEW products are ruining that with the AID of lighting techniques

Will be returning for s full refund and staying with my charge4. ( it doe’s sound a bit louder but still wouldn’t upgrade not worth it. To expensive! it don’t connect with other jbl speakers with the app witch really sucked.

For years I have enjoyed JBL products - primarily headphones and earbuds. However, this device, along with its amazing quality, price point, and set of features, will make me a fan and purchaser of their small(er speaker line of products. The dimensions (8.5" wide x 3.5" high) were such that I figured it would be a fun speaker to have on the golf course with buddies. The sound was so deep, rich and loud that it didn't take long for the buddies to ask what this was. We listened to a variety of our catalogs - below were the big takeaways: -Notorious B.I.G. - While the bass was powerful, the treble of the lyrics was not lost -John Denver - Instrumentals came in clear, loud and crisp. Even at this price, I would have expected some "tinny" sound, but the music sounded like it was live at a concert. Another added plus was the USB-C plug. Faster charging, and as more and more devices (at least from a Pixel phone user), tend to support it, it never hurts to have compatibility between devices for charging. As I said, I'm usually not a big fan of these devices as I like to have music restricted to just my ears, but this has so many applications: shower/bathroom, sound bar, backyard bar-b-que, garage, etc. I would highly recommend this speaker, especially given the price point and the amazing sound.

Later on I started hearing weird noises from the bass, almost like it was blown. I thought it was wired since i haven’t listened to any heavy-bass music. I took it back to the store and got a new one. Still the same problem. Not all the time, but sometimes the bass sounds blown, even on no/low-bass songs. I don’t know what to do about it. Would really recommend, wish this wasn’t a problem, or else it would be one of the best speakers i’ve ever owned.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Its Perfect....For what it is This is my 3rd charge. I had the series 1 and 3. Series 1 unfortunately was lost to water damage. That hasn't been an issue since the element proofing. Series 3 to my ex-wife. I am a electronic music producer and DJ and somewhat of an audiophile. And as far as range goes: I've tested the Charge 5 with multiple genres of music from classical to wub. And it has the range to deliver a near full sound. Don't get me wrong it is loud. Ultimately though being the size it is, it is lacking a bit in the low range and mid-low areas. What are we reviewing here though? A portable speaker that charges devices and has a battery that doesn't quit. Overall, JBL does it again with this gorgeous looking little beast and the only reason I did not give the charge 5 a perfect 5 of 5 rating is because I ask the impossible. Keep up the great work JBL

Right now I'm using it in the kitchen while washing dishes but it's going outside as soon as it gets warm. Its not too bulky and the box it arrived in has a magnetic closure to keep it secure. The coupling with the box was completed within seconds and I was able to enjox the great sound of the box. The tone is already full and can convince in highs and lows. The battery life is terrific , it feels like you don`t get the battery empty and recharging is also quick. The JBL Charge 5 also leaves nothing to be desired in terms of processing. JBL is also following the current trend towards sustanability and only supplies the charging cable without a plug, exemplary! I have to say that with the Charge 5 ,JBL has really succeeded in creating a very successfil bluetooth soundbox that really leaves nothing to be desired.

I have purchased jbl bluetooth speakers in the past and wanted to upgrade. I changed my mind and go a speaker that is stereo. I previously owned the Charge 4 and have to say the bump in sound quality and clarity with this unit is amazing! I fully attribute this to the added tweeter, which eases the burden of the main driver from producing all frequencies. This also allows the main driver to better produce the lower end and better round out the speaker. I am extremely happy with the Charge 5 and will be using it daily as I have with my other JBL’s!

It has a decent amount of bass for such a small speaker and gets plenty of volume. I also like how when you get a text message it doesn't beep at you, it just diminishes the volume slightly for a second or so.

BUT, I cannot get phone call ring sounds, text message notification sounds, or other notification sounds to come thru the speaker. Therefore, when connected to the speaker and listening to music, I have no idea if my phone rings or if I get a text message or other notification. I have tried with an iPad Pro, an iPhone 8 and with an iPhone 11, all having the newest iOS software. And I have updated the Charge 5 too, BUT, I have no problem with this on my Charge 3, as all phone call ring sounds, text sounds and other notification sounds, from all 3 Apple devices, come thru just fine on the Charge 3.

Distortion occurs when linking my two JBL Charge 4 speakers with my Samsung S21 Mobile Phone. It works just fine with an I Phone. There also was not a problem with my older Samsung S7 Mobile Phone.

Hold it's charge really well and sounds great but does connection dips intermittently which I've established is my phone searching for WiFi signal!! They state it can last up to 20 hours, but while at work I can only get 4 maybe 5. And that's with putting the phone near the speaker so that it's not trying to bounce a signal halfway across the room and around 3 corners. I'm going to fully charge it this weekend and see what battery life I get while at home. I'm hoping it's just the work environment and not the actual speaker battery. It is fully charged when I take it to work.

Although the style is a little less appealing but the sound is great for a 30W speaker. I can listen to any genre as the sound stage has punchy bass, decent mids, and clear highs that will not create a muddy tone (compared to the sound stage of the Marshall Bluetooth speakers). Compared to the charge 4, you get a separate tweeter, Bluetooth v5.1 (compared to v4.0), and now a part of JBL Partyboost to connect with other speakers. The IPX rating has decreased since the charge 4 from IPX7 to IPX67. To note, there is no charger in the box, just the cable and some booklets are included. In the end, this a great speaker for all occasions.

At lower volumes, the bass seems a bit muted, but once you crank it up to a more "lively" volume, it really comes alive. It really shined once I took it outside. Smaller speakers lose their voice in the open air, but the Charge was able to punch through across the yard. It's has the power to fill a room, backyard, or pool with sound.

Thumping, room shaking bass when you need it. Even on the quieter volume you can still feel the bass, I get at least three days of play (approx 8 hours a day) working from home. I'd recommend JBL to anyone thinking of buying an audio product, the sound drivers are insane for a speaker of this size.

Impressed on how accurate the color is on the website compared to real life (i bought a customized one.) i firmly believe the price is well justified and the newly found app support to change the EQ settings, update the software of the speaker and rename it is very much welcomed. i have recommened this product to several friends and all of which have purchased one after seeing mine. and to go along with that the party boost settings are amazing and really bring out the emmersion in whatever is being played.

They are LOUD, have awesome clarity, and amazing bass! They sound great with all styles of music. The battery life is phenomenal and they charge back up really quickly. I am a musician and an audiophile so I expect a lot and I was not disappointed! They’re extremely rugged and well built. JBL has a winner here, I highly recommend these!

Paired in Party Mode they function in stereo and they sound phenomenal! I was blown away at how much volume, clarity, and bass these produce. I bought this product just a little over a year ago and I am utterly astonished by the quality of sound that this product can produce, from the crisp highs to the rich/punchy lows, it's incredible! Don't be fooled by this speakers relativley small form factor, it packs a punch to the point i struggle to turn it past 50% volume as i'm worried it may disturb my neighbours. My previous speaker to this was an Ultimate Ears boom 2 and i wanted an upgrade, i was torn between this and the megaboom 3 and I am very gald i chose this one. However, it has got one slight flaw. The battery life. The 20 hours they quote just doesn't seem very realistic, or at least for my particualr speaker. I manage to average around 11 hours at just 25% volume, so if anyone can help with this or suggest anything that i could do to improve this that would be much appreciated. Still getting five stars purley for the sound/build quality but just a bit annoying because of the battery life.

This time I did the customization and I have to say it came out exactly how I saw it designed online. I was super amazed and pleased with the final product. I did have trouble the at first adding my customization to the cart, but after waiting a few days I tried again and was then able to add it. The speaker arrived in about 2 weeks, only every time I looked at the status of my speaker online it was never updated and I never received shipping information.

The last time I tried to recharge, it just wouldn't take. What is this? planned obsolescence? how about some sustainable products?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fine sound but returned due to infuriating flaw I bought this device after reading all the great reviews, and on first turning it on I was very happy with it - loud, good sound quality. But within an hour I'd decided to return the device after discovering an infuriating flaw that, for me, rendered the device unusable: it can't connect to two devices simultaneously. This means that, instead of being able to switch seamlessly between, for example, phone and laptop, like most bluetooth speakers, you have to laboriously disconnect and reconnect everytime you wish to do so. For me, this is a basic function in a bluetooth speaker - particularly considering this device used to have it, before JBL deliberately removed it a year ago! Even more infuriating, I inquired with JBL about this problem and at first, they insisted it *did* have multipoint connection capacity, before finally admitting it didn't on the third reply. There are plenty of good alternatives that do allow for seamless switching between devices, so I have returned the device and will buy another instead.

Great souns on the River & Lakes and the BlueTooth never had a drop or interruption. EACH OF MY TRIPS LAST APPROX 5 HOURS and I have never lost power.

Product is great as expected, except: Why is the USB-C charging port not protected from the elements? It is not behind a sealed "door". All plugs on my 4 are hidden from the elements. Very surprised there is not a cover protecting the charging port from dirt, debris or water.

On a full charge I’m getting about 4 hours worth and that’s playing music not even at full volume, probably around 60% of the volume.

The Vocals were clear highs and mids were there but the Bass was just Ok (for the size). The battery life was good for the mid to low volume that we kept it at for the 4+ hours were outside enjoying the weather. The controls are intuitive and the pairing to my wife's iPhone was easy. The sound is definite an improvement over my Flip4. As far as the size goes, it is bigger than the Flip but I didnt find it bulky.

So summer can come and the days at the lake are saved. The integrated battery lasts a very long time and the feature of using the box as a power bank is now almost standard at JBL. However, it is always nice-to-have : Making the box sound is child's play and no problem for technology borrowers either. Even when it gets loud, the sound stays clean. All round again a very successful product from JBL and an absolute buy recommendation

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good speaker bad company This review is less about the speaker, which so far for has worked quite well and does have some improvements from the charge 3 which is the only other jbl speaker I’ve owned. This review is about jbl deciding to adopt an apple business model without providing a good as unique or irreplaceable as an iphone. I put up with apple continually nickel and diming us as the iphone has changed many aspects of my life. My jbl speaker has not. The notes you’re pulling out of apples playbook; e.g. not providing a charging block, having severely diminished battery life after several years and the most recent which erodes the one true unique edge you once had over other speakers, not providing backwards compatibility in your switch from connect+ to partyboost. Truly a horrendous business move in my humble opinion as many other speaker brands now provide the ability to connect multiple speakers to play simultaneously, however they allow the user to do so across all older models. Making your own technology obsolete and thus competing with yourselves might provide some economic gain in the short term, but it crumbles the brand value you once had built in the minds of many. It’s a truly horrid trend that companies have picked up on, trying to make products that work just well enough to be relevant for several years before needing to be replaced. I enjoyed my first jbl speaker for several years and will enjoy the one I just purchased for the next several. After that, I’ll switch to a company who’s vision I can at least pretend to align with.

I called 3 times to make sure the printing would be all the way around the device. They said it would be, and they wanted me to know the printing would not occur on the rubber knobs (the feet and so on). They assured me it would be exactly as I saw it in the 3-D rendering, they said this over and over. I even sent in a version so JBL could tell me if there were any sections where it did not print, or show me where it wouldn’t print. It is *nowhere near* what I created in their 3-D rendering page. There is a huge portion on the bottom that has no printing whatsoever, even though in the 3-D planning, it is a full 360° wrap. Also, the printing already shows signs of peeling off in some places. After just a week of using them. But as I said, the audio is excellent… and it is a speaker. So…

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bose to JBL I recently replaced my Bose mini with the Charge 5. As much as I have always been a Bose fan the Charge 5 has been a pleasant surprise. The sound quality is right there and the loudness of the speaker is great. I really like the app that allows me to adjust the speakers bass and treble. I don't know by experience, but I like that the speaker is supposed to be safe around water. I also had my Charge 5 personalized which I absolutely love. Keep an eye out for sales and you will get a gem at an affordable price. You will not be disappointed.

Powered it on and right away it sounded good but once it was time to charge. I plugged in the factory charger cord that’s provided and tried a different one and neither work properly. Barley gets any charge even after an hour on the charger. Would love if I didn’t buy a brand new speaker that already has a faulty charging port. Basically makes the speaker unusable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cool little JBL 5 I personalized mine, I had a red white and blue speaker made. It took 2-3 weeks or so to receive it. I bought it for my beach trip but I also bought it because I have a small collection of speakers. The JBL is small , yet it has such a strong bass. It’s loud for its size. I have an: Altec Lansing life jacket speaker, it’s small , water proof and sounds pretty good and holds a decent charge. 7/10 I have a : House of Marley get together speaker. This is our main house speaker. Sounds great, looks nice, bluetooth. But the charge does not hold up as well. Still probably my favorite home speaker. 9/10 I have a: JBL clip 3. Fairly decent sound quality for a tiny travel speaker. But, the speaker started to fall apart within a month of having it 4/10 I have a : Ion total PA max (karaoke speaker), this is hands down my favorite speaker, very very loud, bluetooth, FM/AM radio, aux port for microphone, bit pricey , comes with a stand. Only downfall is.. it has to be plugged in at all times. It’s not cordless. 10/10 Lastly, this new personalized JBL charge 5: it packs a punch, it’s compact , easy to carry, travel or store it home, very loud, lots of bass (but sometimes the bass can be a downfall) Charge has held up decently so far.. 9/10

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Frequency Range I have been looking for an upgrade from the Flip 4, which is a very good portable speaker. The Charge 5 did not disappoint. The extra power and addition of the tweeter really took the music to another level in my opinion. Great frequency range and outstanding bass are what you can expect from JBL. If I had one complaint, it would be no AUX port. Other than that, well worth the money.

We have a larger speaker, and a Clip, bought this one to round out our choices, and also because it had a place to charge your phone which we need camping sometimes. I only gave it 4 stars because it would be nice if it had a shoulder strap like the larger one, or at least a place to clip one on, its handier when you can just throw a strap over your shoulder.

Genial langtur kompanjong, da Charge 5 har veldig bra batteritid (opptil 20t), fungerer som powerbank, kan benytte PartyBoost for stereo, eller enda flere høyttalere. Skulle ønske jeg hadde minst en til for å teste det. Skal også være helt vann og støvsikker med IP67, så skal tåle en brukbar rølpefest før den tar kvelden :p Hadde den med ut i skogen skjærtorsdag, og fikk da testet den skikkelig, og ble ganske imponert over hvor mye lyd den klarte å lire ut av seg i åpent terreng. Var ikke noe problem å overdøve flere stykker, som prøvde å synge om kapp med den. Så skal man på stranda, i skogen, på båttur, hyttetur osv. Er dette en genial høyttaler å ha med seg, og har man flere tror jeg det blir riktig så bra trøkk!

The sound is crystal clear, you can actually hear every instruments or small noice in the background. I have never heard sound more clear on any device. I was listening to sports radio on my phone and the interview was muffled and I didn’t know what they were saying, I turned on my speaker I could understand every word it is completely incredible!! The volume is amazing I can hear my speaker in the basement and throughout the house even with it on the 2nd floor. You don’t even have to turn the volume all the way up and it is the loudest speaker ever. The battery life is amazing I love that I can listen to the speaker for days and never have to charge it. My daughters favorite feature is that she can charge her phone through the speaker. It’s so convenient I am always having to bring a portable charger everywhere I go but with this speaker it is built in and the portable charger stays home it’s outstanding. This speaker is water proof and dust proof which is a feature I greatly appreciate. I am in love with this speaker and everyone who has seen and heard my jbl charge 5 is impressed. I can’t say enough about how amazing the sound is, I have never heard music the way it sounds through this speaker. It feels like the artist and all the instruments are in the same room, if you close your eyes you wouldn’t know it was a speaker and not live in front of you, my sports radio broadcasters feel like they are sitting right in front of me talking to me that is how crystal clear the sound is. I was especially surprised how well older songs with less quality sound, I have never heard oldies sound so good! I always love jbl products and expect good quality but they even blew me away with this speaker it is above and beyond!

It's shaped perfectly so that the sound disperses favorably regardless of positioning (vertical/horizontal). This is also simply a more aesthetically pleasing design with the subtle orange on black. SOUND: Just when you think that JBL can't possibly improve sound quality in such a limited amount of space, they go ahead and blow your mind. This speaker just flat-out sounds outstanding. The balance between the lows, mids, and highs is perfect. It doesn't distort at high volume, and it gets plenty loud. The bass is satisfactorily thumpy and you can hear lyrics and instruments crystal clear. NEGATIVES: I can only think of two. Firstly, I'd like to see future renditions have WiFi capabilities. Secondly, it's a bit annoying that newer models cannot wirelessly pair with older models. Overall, this is an ideal portable Bluetooth speaker with excellent battery life and fantastic sound. It's small enough to stick in a backpack and loud enough to fill a big room with immersive music. The JBL Charge 5 is a homerun.

We could never get the boat's speakers going and this little baby made all the difference. It could play loud and clear. We really used it a ton. Small enough to pack in the suitcase and still had a big sound. I was also not worried about using it on the beach with all the sand. It really stood up.

I love that the speaker was wrapped in a cloth to keep it beautiful and protected in the box.  The instructions and a cord comes in a flimsy box. But overall it was in nice and sturdy packaging. Of course I took the instructions out and noticed it says waterproof. However I did not test out that claim I cant wait to place this in the bathroom and test out how well this speaker will work out for us.  I turned on the speaker and was able to make a quick Bluetooth connection to my phone. The Charge5 is loud, which I did not expect for it to sound so good while being all the way turned up. A lot of speakers I’ve had become distorted but not the Charge5. The sound stayed clear and there is a party boost on this speaker to make the sounds better for each song or sound you play on the Charge5 with more speakers you attach. The Charge5even charges your phone even while playing what you want on the speaker.  I was really hoping that I could try to connect this to my TV. However I think my TV is being stubborn and will not connect to the Charge5. I am glad I got this speaker. My daughter now wants one and we like music when taking showers so this speaker. This will make a great gift for her. Another great product made by JBL. Another happy customer.

It came back on 6th feb being more damaged, whole speaker wasn't working at all. Gave it back to service centre, it came after around 20 days and within 10 days it has stopped working again. This has become a nightmare, i totally regret purchasing a JBL product. Please think again before getting a JBL product. They keep sending you the damaged product in the name of warranty.

I wanted something for him that was unmistakably him, so after designing the speaker i got a 3d rendering of it before finalizing the sale. The product I received was perfect as shown in the rendering. Very pleased. The speaker itself is very impressive too and lasts forever. I am no audiophile but i know it sounds great.

However when I read about the Charge 5 I thought that would be an even better speaker and could use the flip 6 in my study. I debated for several weeks then decided to purchase the Charge 5. Am so glad I did. Once again a speaker that crazily connects to Bluetooth and most importantly the sound is incredible for a speaker that size. I highly recommend!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Made it Across the Atlantic I have owned the Charge 4 and the Charge 5. I cannot rate these products more highly. I was part of a 3 man team that rowed unsupported across the Atlantic Ocean in Dec/Jan 21/22. These two speakers were used interchangeably 24 hours a day for 37 days in all kinds of weather. The only time one wasn't being used was when it was being charged. The speakers had every type of environment out on deck without any additional waterproof covering. It lasted through storms, 40 degree direct sunshine, waves breaking over the boat and more. At one stage we couldn't find it despite still hearing music. It was in the "gutter" of our rowing boat, under soaking line and a spare oar in about 4 inches of salt water and had been like that for 8 hours at least. These things are fking indestructible. I'm currently listening to music on the Charge 4 with still perfect sound and the only impact being some slight tearing on the charging port cap. Honestly the most incredible product I've owned.

I use it mostly for Podcasts and youtubes etc. It's a decent replacement except that this speaker has no Microphone! I can't do any bluetooth calls with it which is very very very annoying and unexpected! Now i have to figure out a backup plan or switch out speakers.

Will never buy the charge 5 again. I'm so mad. Waste of money. You always have to have it plugged in at work.

I opened my replacement product, charged it fully and only got about 7 hours play back time. really upset with this thought JBL was the best choice to go with, guess not. I read another review somewhere that the battery life was terrible, thought they just got a dud but no, this item is defective (hence the sale price)

I bought my JBL Charge 5 through Fingerhut (yeah, I paid a bit more) but I use this for sound on my work computer (I show my customers RV videos - I sell RV's) and the sound quality is amazing! It totally changes the experience of watching a video. Then, when I explain that their new Winnebago comes with JBL speakers, they are usually pretty excited! My next purchase will be the JBL Ear Buds.

The battery life is amazing and I love that you can charge your device with the speaker. Portability is the forte of this speaker, take it out to the patio or the beach and crank the tunes.

I thought I would be 2 weeks out, so about a week after Christmas day. I actually received my customized JBL speaker on the 23rd of December, which was ready to go on Christmas day. Thank you! My wife and daughter both cried to the picture I choose for the customization (my late son from 10 years ago) and the speaker hooked up perfectly with my JBL Charger5 for surround sound. My daughter loved it so much, she went out and purchased a JBL Charger5 as well. I'm definitely going to purchase a JBL in the future, and most likely a larger speaker. Thank you again!

The sound quality is incredible and the range of frequencies it plays well is honestly surprising. Do not be fooled by its size, even though it is lightweight, and able to be packed in a backpack, it is loud and incredible useful for a wide variety of situations. From bass in songs, to whispers in movies, you can hear everything. I would highly recommend this to anyone who needs a portable speaker.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Poor battery I bought a Charge 4 approximately five years ago and then upgraded to a charge 5 within the past year or so. Both still work and I switch between them when the other is charging so both have been getting about half the use they would normally get. Recently I used both for an outdoor party and the charge 4 lasted six hours and the charge 5 lasted only three. Both were on full volume the entire time playing similar music. So the battery on the Charge 5 lasted only half as long as the charge 4 which is about four years older. The sound is excellent and easily filled a large outdoor space but the battery just wasn’t up to par.

My concern was it would be muddled so those in the back of the class couldn't hear the videos that we play to highlight the information. But that is not an issue with this. The build quality is also fantastic. Very sturdy build. Only reason I did not give it a five star rating isn't about the quality of the product but the quality of the custom print. We have two, round, logos on each side and both have been stretched horizontally so they are more oval now.

The design and colors came out awesome just like it looked online when I chose them! The speaker itself is powerful for such a portable device, and he absolutely loves it! I bought this after owning a smaller unit last year and so impressed by the sound quality for such a small unit. The battery lasts a long time between charges and connects via bluetooth very reliably on everything I use it on, laptops, phones, etc. These are dependable devices. I recommend these to anyone who wants a remote speaker. So, nice to have wherever I go, I can turn on and listen to music from my phone while working in the basement, workshop or outside gardening.

It was ordered two and half weeks before my birthday and it didn't show up until 5 days after my birthday. But other than that, it looks great and sounds great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Personalization! I got a personalized Charge 5 as Christmas present, and I am highly satified with the turnout of the personalization on the back! It looks fantastic! The one thing is that the paint seems to have a certain texture throughout the speaker, and it feels sort of sticky. So too, the startup sounds are very quiet and the buttons on the speaker are difficult to know you've pressed them.

Something must have been wrong with their website because this has never happened before. Needless to say, the name was not centered at all and it took a very long time to receive my order. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Boom Boom! The JBL Charge 5 has a big sound in a relatively small package. While the sound is somewhat bass heavy, it's still crisp and plenty loud. The battery life so far has been above par (have only charged once since I received it and it's still running after a few listens of 30 minutes to a couple hours). The customization options were nice and relatively inexpensive. The speaker design is simple but attractive even without the customizations. Bluetooth connectivity was a breeze and the speakers automatically connects to the paired device on power up. A minor nit would be a way to disable or reduce the volume of the shutdown/connect tones - they are annoyingly loud. My only complaint would be that a product meant for outdoor use like this should come with some type of reusable nylon or fabric carry bag or at least a sturdy lanyard/strap.

I see all of the trouble shooting suggestions from customer support on other reviews.... but if it needs a certain charging block, why doesn't it come with the speaker that were paying over $100 for? The sound is good, but not for the 20 hours they claim. I'm going to try the trouble shooting suggestions... but maybe you guys should consider including the correct charging block that you recommend for your product.

Disappointed Bought this to replace Charge 4 which I have away, had to send this one back because the battery kept dying so quickly, the 2nd one is no better, can't play on full volume for more than 2 hours otherwise it just dies, even on medium volume it doesn't even last 5 hours. I constantly have to keep charging it, either you sold a dream with 20hrs battery or these batteries are faulty! Charge 4 was much better but is no longer available

One of my favorite aspects of the JBL is that I can control the bass, mid-tones, and treble using the app downloaded from the Play Store. The equalizer is effective. I would suggest some type of carry case for it - maybe JBL has one?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Extremely impressed I was originally looking at the Flip 5. Had decent reviews but realized it did not have a tweeter or crossover. Then was looking at flip 6 which did and had a few other nice features. The lack of flip 6s forced me to look at the charge 5. I was leery about spending the money because the price has never dropped like most do after being on the market for as long as it has. But the reviews were so good that I went for it. And not a single moment of regret. It is a solid unit. The higher watts and the ability to keep the frequency range the same even at the highest volumes are extremely impressive. It is worth every penny and now I understand why the price is still in the range it was when it first was released. I strongly encourage you to make this step as the $30 or so price increase is really worth it.

I have had many different brands of speaker, but the only one that has lasted (more than ten years) is my old JBL, there is still nothing wrong with my old one, but when I was in the market for a larger more powerful speaker, JBL was my first thought. And so far this new speaker has more than lived up to the standard! If you are as clumsy & outdoorsy as I am this is the speaker for you.

I am just sad to report the battery lasts 3-4 hours if that. Full charge multiple times it doesn’t late long. This isn’t such a big deal to me however it advertises 20 hours of playtime which is far from what I am getting.

I use this in my RZR, one day it ended up on the floor board as I drove through a huge mud puddle. Mud got in through the floors and this thing was CAKED, fully covered. I got home, hosed it off thinking the worst… BUT it sounded just like it did when we started the ride earlier that day. Waterproof is an understatement!

The volume is so loud and great for outdoor use. My vacuum is pretty loud, and with the volume not that high, it overpowers the sound of the vacuum. This speaker is especially awesome while floating rivers. I buy all my speakers from JBL because the quality never disappoints. My JBL speakers have been on so many adventures.

It is solid and well-constructed. It included a charging cable. The sound is really amazing. I can even charge my phone from the interior Power Bank (very smart feature). I like it so much, I am going to order another one, so I can pair them in stereo mode. I highly recommend for outdoor use (on the deck or patio, while grilling, and definitely tailgating). You will love it too!

The sounds , volume and equalizer adjustments are perfect . Everything is fine , except the battery life when it's not plugged in and the speaker gets heated after a while. The battery life only lasts 4-5 hours at Max Volume and it gets warm too. On the case and online, it says the battery life for the JBL CHARGE 5 should last 20 hours....how? What if I'm at the beach all day or outside for more than 4-5 hours and I'm using it with no charging. It'll die. JBL CHARGE 4 Lasts longer at MAX volume by up to 2 -3 hours.!

I have got about 2 1/2 hours worth of playtime before it has completely died. Nowhere near the 20 hours JBL is claiming this party speaker has absolutely disappointing for the price point. While it was working, the audio sounded good, but if it can’t even make it through an eight hour shift, it’s just an expensive paperweight to me.

I had a bad experience with another site that sent the same JBL Charge 5 speaker but fake. I will never reorder JBL products through a third party. I highly recommend ordering for this site. The speaker sounds amazing with Hight fidelity and clear. I'm going to order another speaker to have stereo sound.

When the loudspeaker arrived, the beautifully designed packaging attracted attention. Everything very nicely designed. The main box has a magnetic lock and makes a very valuable impression. I'm lucky enough to be able to compare the Charge 5 to a Charge 4. The other design is immediately noticeable. What has succeeded in my eyes. The new JBL logo comes across as beautiful and confident. Everything looks very classy and valuable. The first Bluetooth pairing was problem-free. What surprised me a lot is the difference in sound, especially in direct comparison with the Charge 4. You can immediately tell that the new box has a separate tweeter. The sound is much cleaner and clearer. All in all, a huge step forward. The box is really fun.

It's still going strong but I had a need for another one so the latest version, #5, was the obvious choice. The sound quality is much improved it's still bomb-proof, and the PartyLink is ... quite good fun I suppose (I've tried it out with a relative who also has one). However, when I tried to use it with my phone for speakerphone I was perplexed that I couldn't get it to work. Later I looked it up and realised that it doesn't have a microphone. It's really disappointing that such a great feature from an earlier version has been dropped. My bad for not researching the product properly, I suppose, but a real shame.

I thought that they would be good to stream music from my computer (I have a huge amount of music downloaded on my computer and want to use it as my home system base) and phone and I was planning on buying more speakers to fill a few rooms with sound. The voice activated speakers are deal breakers for me so I was attracted to these as they have no mic. Well, when I first got them and downloaded the JBL portable app they worked fine. I was able to use partyboost with my phone in stereo although I had to re-activate stereo mode each time I powered them on. They worked in partyboost mode with my computers Bluetooth. I was happy enough even though I was disappointed that stereo was not available with my computer. Then I made the mistake of updating the software on both speakers. Now partyboost won't work with the Bluetooth on my computer, only one speaker at a time works. Unfortunately I didn't do the research before I bought them as I now see it says that multiple speakers won't work with a computer. (They did before the software update, why change that JBL!?) I don't know why JBL would limit their products like that as there are other Bluetooth speakers that work under that stereo configuration with a computer perfectly AND you don't have to download an app, run that app AND set it up for stereo EVERY time you turn it on with your phone. The app is not available for a computer. (Insert head exploding emoji here!) Let alone the fact that it won't work with more than one speaker on a Bluetooth computer. I tried resetting them to factory default but alas once I had updated the software the damage was done. They sound ok for a small portable speaker however their limited functionality for my purpose has me returning them. Back to the drawing board, looking for a different company to supply my multi room speakers. Highly disappointed.

They tried telling me it's only good for 500 charges and nothing we can do to help if the battery stops charging overall. "Here's 30% off though." Laughable. Go with any other brand.

When I received my speaker it was still sealed in its original packing....so yeah it was brand new! i saved 80 bucks off the price too. Anyway, this speaker is incredible. Looks great, sounds great, connects easily to my phone and it is very durable. I work in a loud environment and I could still hear my speaker! I'm a jbl fan for life!

First to the not so good things and while I personally the price is a bit too high, but if you want quality, then you have to pay a little more and in the box it is worth it. The other thing would be that the battery comes pretty quickly in the red zone, but there very long (about 3-4h) holds. In addition, the coupling with other (older) boxes for inexplicable reasons is not possible, which I find a pity, because it is a cool Featuere. Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but I have not managed to pair the box with older boxes such as the JBL Xtreme 1 & 2. Now to the good things about the box: It is very loud and below unfortunately then not the sound quality. The sound is nice and clear and you hear no noise or anything else. The bass is also very pleasant, for my taste it could be a bit more intense, but actually there is nothing to complain about. The box comes in a nice package and is very easy to use. I would recommend it to anyone who wants a handy music box for on the go with loud volume and pleasant sound. Gladly again.

But recently seeing how the JBL Extreme 3 has an update on adjustable EQ I hope after I receive my new Charge 5 it also have an Adjustable EQ. Me and my friends will love it.

Contacted customer service and could not understand the person on the phone, they asked for serial number it's so small I can't even read it. Unfortunately I didn't keep any of my Walmart receipts and really didn't feel like I needed to knowing JBL 's quality from previously purchased speakers. Would not buy again.

I used to have JBL change 3,4 they’re such different sound More improved sound with JBL Charge 5. I love it! What a good decision! Smooth order process, good communication, good shipping, insured by Norton, etc. The speaker itself performs as expected...excellent. This is my second JBL bluetooth speaker with the first one 10 years old and still working great. The JBL Charge 5 has better sound and the interface couldnt be easier. You cannot go wrong with this line of products.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I love my JBL! First of all, major design points! This speaker is aesthetically pleasing, which is very important to me. Sound wise, you can’t beat the quality for it’s size. Not only is it easily portable, but it’s range of sound is pretty impressive for how compact it is. Also, the battery lasts forever!!! It’s loud enough to hear, while I’m in the shower and the fact that it’s waterproof, allows me to feel confident that it won’t be damaged by all the steam in my bathroom. Seriously, the construction on this thing is great! It’s expensive for sure, but if you can afford it, I’d say go for it! I’m glad I did.

Water and dust proof for the beach, and it charges anything with a usb hookup. This is hands down better than the Flip, and not too big like the Extreme to pack into a small bag for the beach or pool. The highs are just a tad bright from a neutral sound, but with an added tweeter this was expected. This is basically a baby Extreme 3. I’m very pleased with JBL once again for bringing amazing portable sound to a package that can’t be beat.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Disappointing newer model I had a JBL charge 3 for many years until it was stolen. I bought this as a replacement and it’s not a patch on the old version. Whilst bigger and in more range of colours, the battery life is shocking and nowhere near the advertised hours. I work 15 hour days and the Charge 3 could be played at full volume on a single charge for the duration. This one lasts about 50% of that before running out of battery and requiring a full charge again. Extremely disappointing to have made a speaker that is less of an improvement on previous models.

Inside the JBL Charge 5 is a racetrack-shaped driver, as well as a separate tweeter and dual passive radiators, Battery life comes in at 20 hours, so there's no change there – though that's still an impressive figure, making it longer-lasting than many outdoor speakers on the market. You can also charge your device using the speaker's built-in powerbank, making it ideal for when you're on the move. Design-wise, the Charge 5 doesn't look dramatically different compared to other speakers in the line, though it does come with silicone bumpers on each side to protect it from falls. Tweeters are nice and clean and the bass is awesome although I thought would be even louder. Cons: It's a bit bulky and hard to carry around

We have literally listened to these every night. Outdoors by the fire and inside the house. These speakers hold a long battery life, so we don't have to charge them as much as other bluetooth speakers. Definitely a great investment. All the family and friends wanted to know where we got these. Hear is our setup (sorry can't load pictures)

During outdoor training, it delivers the right sound and provides me and my participants with motivation. I used the box when training on the tennis court, in the garden, in the house and I am also convinced that it is an indispensable companion when camping, especially when used as a power bar. The JBL CHARGE5 also offers listening pleasure everywhere for radio plays and audio books. The connection is established quickly via Bluetooth,but unfortunately only to one device.

I’m really impressed with the update it’s almost the same size as my old JBL Charge 4 but the design is just fantastic a bit like a mini JBL Xtreme 3 which I also own in black. Now to the sound. First there is not a Huge difference between the new charge 4 and 5 but because of the edition of a tweeter there is more clarity and it seems to hold on to more bass at higher volumes than the charge 4. Bass is slightly stronger to my ears even if the specs say different. Charge 4 plays down to 60Hz charge 5 65Hz thou there various videos around showing the Charge 5 playing down a lot lower than that. All in all it’s a decent upgrade. Lovely design superb crisp sound and crazy powerful if you need it. I rarely go above 50% volume indoors because that’s more than loud enough. well done JBL yet another cracker!

I had wanted a decent speaker for time in the back garden for ages, I've always had JBL car speakers so I was naturally drawn back to the brand. It does not disappoint on any level, bass, m, nid notes and treble are powerful and crisp, the sound carries fantastically outside, and it's hard not to want to crank it up outside, but I do have to think of the neighbours ; It's brilliant and I love it, and the thought of getting a second to link together's already crossed my mind, you could run your own spontaneous outdoor raves with these things lol !

I purchased two and both stopped charging after the first and only charge! Poor customer service. Your out $150 each speaker you risk buying. Matthew

I work 10 hour shifts and ik i read blasting it full volume it'll die 50% faster so its supposed to last at least 10 hours. Well shortly after my lunch it died. Pathetic. Don't say it lasts 20 hours and it only lasted 4.5 hours. Pretty ticked off and returning it. Waste of money

A colleague friend bought one of these to listen to on the jobsite. I was surprised at how good it sounded. For the compact size of this unit, the bass is impressive. The dual radiators do their job well. I ordered a custom one with my company logo on it. Lovin' it!

The bass is very good for the size of speaker that it is and is very punchy. This speaker was constantly being carried around on a bike, dropped, used in the shower once a week, caught in the rain, and still works perfectly. The sound quality is extremely impressive and even from 100 feet away the speaker still sounds very clear. Definitely one of my best purchases.

This speaker has no sound spikes in specific frequencies, and has well balanced factory E.Q., but if the firmware is updated, the custom one can be adjusted for mostly top, balanced, or most bass, which mine is set to and still provides good vocals with the kids and highs turned down all the way, the dedicated tweeter really helps with this clarity of sound from this unit. *The battery drains in about 1hr at max volume and charging a device at 1.2 amps with the E.Q. Having the bass at max, mids normal, highs lowest.
